What are you reading?-April 2010

Another month everyone! Please share what you are reading.

I have The Blind Side up next. Been meaning to read it before seeing the movie.

NiteNicole 04-01-2010 09:04 AM

I'm reading You Suck by Christopher Moore but I've just realized it's a sequel to a book I read a LONG time ago so I'm going to leave off with this one and pick it up after I re-read the first one.

I'm also the last person to get around to reading Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julia Powell. I'm sorry I waited to so long.

artic123 04-01-2010 09:34 AM

"Peony in Love" by Lisa See. An interesting Chinese ghost story. I will be reading "Shanghi Girls" next by the same author next.

CharlieBaby 04-01-2010 09:38 AM

Out of Africa - Isak Dinesen - I've only ever seen the movie.

The Friday Night Knitting Club - Kate Jacobs

Bitter is the New Black - Jen Lancaster

And I'd like to get my hands on a copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Cruise Confidential

CanadianCutie 04-01-2010 10:18 AM

Still reading The City & The City, but I only have my e-book on loan from the library for another day, so I'm going to have to finish the last 100 pages today. Next in store is Dark Places, and I have a couple "real" paperbacks to read once I'm done those two.

mom4life 04-01-2010 10:39 AM

I'll be cruising this thread for a while. Been wanting to read something but not sure what. I did see Shanghai girl the other day, wondered how that was. With 3 little ones in toe its kinda hard to stop to read the cover page on the book. ;)

pinkalarmclock 04-01-2010 10:48 AM

Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut, still working on Hotel of Irrevocable Acts by Carl Watson, and about to start Emma by Jane Austen

ANOther 04-01-2010 12:10 PM

Drop Shot by Harlan Coben

sotypical 04-01-2010 12:14 PM

I am working on Codependent No More by Melody Beattie - might have to read this one twice - I think up next is the last Twilight Book (again). I would also like to finally read The End of Overeating - it's been sitting around for month!

1bighog 04-03-2010 07:26 AM

I have a couple of more chapters left in The Blind Side. :)

MutableParadox 04-03-2010 11:36 AM

A Storm of Swords - George R.R. Martin (3rd in a series A Song of Ice and Fire --Fantasy Genre little on the dark side)

rock182star03 04-04-2010 08:21 PM

youthquaker 04-04-2010 08:30 PM

On the Road by Jack Kerouac

patchworkpenguin 04-04-2010 09:17 PM

Pretty Woman by Fern Michaels. I saw this on the thread about weightloss fiction. I'm about halfway through. I wish she had fleshed out the characters a bit more, they seem a tad cardboard, I don't get a good sense of them; they are just there.

ParadiseFalls 04-04-2010 11:08 PM

I'm reading Stephen King's "Under the Dome" on my Kindle and Chuck Palahniuk's "Lullaby" via audio book. Both are great so far.

stacylambert 04-05-2010 03:18 AM

Right now I'm reading the newest Vampire Diaries book. I started reading them because of the show, but I think this is one case where the book isn't better. The original four from the 90's were okay, but the two new ones have been a rough read.

Viking Girl 04-05-2010 06:43 AM

I just finished reading "The Book of Negroes" by Lawrence Hill. Amazing book about the slave trade. Also, just finished "The Girls" by Lori Lansens; fictional autobiography of two sisters conjoined at the head. Funny but sad; inspirational.

Now starting in on Malcolm Gladwell's latest book "What the Dog Saw".

Viking Girl 04-05-2010 06:48 AM

And I'd like to get my hands on a copy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

CharlieBaby "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an awesome book...The sequel "The Girl Who Played with Fire" is even better. I can't wait until "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest" comes out! So sad that Steig Larsson died before he could finish the series.

CanadianCutie 04-06-2010 11:57 AM

Just finished with Dark Places, I liked it over all, but the ending didn't seem very strong. I'm reading The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks now. My boyfriend's mom handed me a stack of books to borrow when we were over there for Easter. I picked the right guy for many reasons, but it's just awesome that his mom works in a bookstore.

Alicia87 04-08-2010 07:12 PM

Currently reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and after that I'm going to read the new Jodi Picoult book, House Rules.

CanadianCutie 04-08-2010 07:20 PM

I'm onto Dexter By Design now. After that I have a few lined up. I loved the first two Dexter books, wasn't too fond of the third, it seemed to me to go too far out of the realm of the first two, the fourth seems back on track though.

Clydegirl 04-08-2010 07:51 PM

I'm reading Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay.

One you can't put down.

CanadianCutie 04-09-2010 11:26 AM

I agree Clydegirl, I read Sarah's Key in like two days.

ANOther 04-10-2010 01:19 PM

CanadianCutie 04-10-2010 05:52 PM

Juggling 3 books at the moment. Just starting Blood Brothers by Nora Roberts, also reading The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks, and The Zombie Survival Guide: Compete Protection from the Living Dead by Max Brooks (Mel Brooks' son)

Onederchic 04-10-2010 06:58 PM

I just started the 'Sword of Truth' series by Terry Goodkind (the TV show Legend of the Seeker is based on these books)

Ruthxxx 04-11-2010 06:58 AM

Reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, one of my book club selections. It's absolutely terrific! I am forcing myself to read it slowly.

I have the zombie one but haven't read it yet. Let me know what you think about it when you finish it up, please ♥

bex 04-11-2010 09:46 PM

I am currently reading Social Psychology by Floyd Allport. Have to write a 2000 word essay on it about its influence on the history of psychology. Its actually quite interesting.

CanadianCutie 04-11-2010 11:27 PM

bex, you're a girl after my own heart. I love Psychology. I actually take Psych classes for fun at the local community college.

mygritsconfessions 04-11-2010 11:33 PM

I am starting to read a book called Women, Food and God by Geneen Roth. Has had great reviews, and Oprah gave it high marks.........so we will see!

KatehSparrow 04-12-2010 10:28 PM

Im listening to Angelology by Danielle Trussoni right now on audioboook and reading Paper Towns by John Green on my kindle. I follow John Green on youtube (he vlogs back and for with his brother--they are both very nerdy and hilarious) and I figured I would pick up one of his books out of curiosity and I have to say that it's just as funny as he is!

Has got to be in my top ten favorite books. You'll love it.

Reading a few books for my classes, but my personal reading currenty is Ulysses - James Joyce. It's a bit of a monster, and I have a feeling that with papers coming up, it's going to be into June before I can finish it.

AzimuthRing 04-18-2010 03:16 PM

Matter by Iain M. Banks

Pamb 04-19-2010 08:52 AM

I am starting Women Food and God too, I read her (Geneen Roth) column in Good Housekeeping magazine and like her style, I have not read any of her others. Pam

CanadianCutie 04-19-2010 02:00 PM

Still working my way through The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks and The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, but also started Shutter Island on my Sony Reader (easier to read at night with that and a book light when boyfriend is sleeping).

AmyLynn76 04-20-2010 06:41 AM

Right now I'm reading Lipstick and Blood by John Kearney. Not sure what's next on the list yet.
