Talking Quitting smoking

I quit smoking 10 days ago, and didn't even know it until 2 days ago!

Because I knew I needed something to replace the cigs or I would eat everything in sight, I tried the electronic cigarette, and it is AWESOME! I haven't had a single craving, I have NOT gained any weight, and further more, my doctor told me (two days ago) that it counts as nicotine replacement therapy, not as smoking. My sense of taste, and of smell, have drastically improved, and I still feel like I have something to do with my hands, and my time, unlike my previous attempts. I have tried to quit at least 20 times previously, some as long as 2 weeks, but stress always made me pick it back up again.

For those of you who need to quit, but are afraid to because of the seemingly automatic weight gain, this might be the answer. There are many styles, but most recommend the Joye 10 (as do I) as a basic one to start out with.

Has anyone else used this method and found it good? Has anyone tried it but it did not work?

Thanks! I hope to eventually wean myself off of this substitute as well. Even in less than 2 weeks, I can't use my original Nicotine Juice anymore, as it now stings my throat and lungs, where, when I started, I thought it was SO mild, lol.

Thanks for your post! I am going to quit smoking again here soon (I know, everybody says "going to" but I need to wait until I know I am solidly ready or it won't work) and the last time I did it relatively successfully I used an ecigarette. It was amazing and really helped me quit, the cravings just became fewer and further between.

I'm glad to hear you didn't gain weight. I think right now that is my biggest fear of quitting - that I'll gain a load of weight and get discouraged.

Well, good luck, and maybe you should stick with the ecig a little longer this time? Some sites recommend up to a year...

I didn't really consciously quit the ecig. I just wanted to "smoke" less and less, and before I knew it had quit!

That's good news to me! I just switched as a way of not giving my bf lung cancer, and in the hopes of avoiding it myself, but I WAS kinda hoping that quitting altogether might be a bonus.

Congrats! It's wonderful that you quit!

I quit about 3 years ago after 15 years, quit cold turkey, and I have to say it was the best thing I ever did for myself and my family.

It's great that the ecig is working for you, and good luck with weaning yourself completely off nicotine!

awesome. i was wondering about it. today i have managed to make it to three weeks!!!

i'm so stupid too!! ugh. I smoked for about 3 or so years, was up to a pack a day and then quit. When I quit I was 19. I randomly picked it up last April - TEN years later! I don't know why. What was I thinking!?

Hopefully I'll keep quit this time.

I had been a smoker for 35 years and my husband for over 40. We must have tried to give up 100's of times.
Five years ago, we did it with our GP who sent us the the NHS (national health service) quit line. We had counselling on a 1:1 and we found that the Nicorette inhalers were the best 'prop' for us. We had them free on the NHS and quitting was the easiest thing we ever did.
Anyone trying to quit and failing, please don't give up; keep trying its all about the right time and the right place. You'll hit your sweet spot eventually and soon be a non smoker. If my husband and I can do it, anyone can!

I tried using the ecig a few months ago to quit, but felt like I just wanted 'a real cigarette' every time I used it. I still use it from time to time, since its so cold out and I can't be arsed to stand outside and smoke. Stress is my downfall. I get super stressed and feel like OMG, have to smoke NOW!

Lol, I want to eventually quit but I know that at this point in my life, I'd be setting myself up for failure. But still, congrats to you for quitting!

Thanks guys! Salaam, If the ecig didn't work for you, you may be addicted to the alkoloids (sp?). That really sucks, because it is much harder to quit when none of the replacement therapies replace that, just nicotine. Keep trying!
