  • I program telephone systems remotely. I invented the position for my company and have been so successful at making them money that when I moved away nearly 8 years ago they set me up to work from my home.

Frankly I'm burned out, but I'm still pretty well paid for a job I get to do in my underwear so I'm sticking it out until the job disappears (which I expect it will in the next few years).
  • a little off topic, but funny
I came across this job ad, and just thought, Wow!

in a nutshell: know Chinese (for translation purposes, I'm assuming); like cats and dogs; travel with boss -- which includes packing and unpacking for boss; do laundry, housework, home decor, cooking; run errands and shop; know computers and computer programs, including spread sheets and Quickbooks, billing and reports; do internet research; deal with clients; fax, phones, emails, correspondence.

I think I'd want a ring with a big rock in it for that one.

  • I teach high school special education. I work with all grades (9-12). My students have learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional/behavioral issues, etc. Pretty much, I run the gamet of disabilities. I teach two math classes for our kids who just can't make it in the regular education setting due to math disabilities (Algebra I and Geometry). I also provide inclusionary services in two freshman math classes to provide support to both the teacher and the students. I also have an Academic Support block where the students have time in their schedules to work on outside classwork and receive any extra assistance or clarification they may need to be successful in their classes. In one day, I pretty much do anything and everything imaginable from Algebra to US History to Spanish to Chemistry to Physics to Child Growth and Development to Psychology to Biology to Geometry to Trigonometry, etc. Sometimes, this is going on at one time...which amazes the kids that I can multi-task so well! haha

I also have to do reevaluation testing on students, schedule and run meetings to update IEP's, consult with regular ed teachers to make sure that all accommodations are being met within the classroom, proctor MCAS exams, and plan for my two classes that I teach.

There is never enough time in the day to get everything done that I need to get done, most times I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle against the regular ed teachers and administration, and there are never enough materials to do "fun" math activities with the kids since everything is so focused on the MCAS exams, but I absolutely ADORE my students. They definitely make each day worth it!
  • I work as a kennel tech at a boarding kennel for dogs and cats. I love my job! Before this I was a retail manager and THAT was awful. My kennel job is as near perfect for me as I can get.
  • I have 2 careers actually. I teach History (last year I taught 7th grade, this year I teach college). I'm also an archivist. Unfortunatly both of my careers are subject to layoffs. I was laid off from NBC/Universal 2 years ago (which prompted me to go back into teaching) last year I was laid off from Los Angeles Unifed School District.

I LOVE both of my jobs!
  • I work for a local University as a Web Team Support Specialist. Basically I sit on my butt in front of a computer for 7.5 hours a day...and I wonder why I'm fat...LOL!
  • I help spice up women's love lives....not what I went to college for (I have an Animal Science degree lol) but I absolutely adore my job!!
  • I am a certified medical coder. My specialty is neurosurgery. I am not sure that is what I want to do for the rest of my life..... but for now it pays the bills.
  • I am a college professor and I love it. I have a Ph.D. in psychology (social/cultural) and teach psych classes, but you gotta wear a lot of hats in a small college, and I also teach pre-study abroad and occasionally other classes. I also advise over 30 students (formally...others informally) and do both service work for the college and engage in some research. I love it all, but there are times there's just too much to love.

What a real variety of cool jobs here! I always tell my advisees they need to explore explore explore, because they may not even know the name of the job they are going to love in the future.
  • I take care of women after their loves lives have been spiced up.

I provide prenatal care, well woman gyn care, and contraception. And I catch babies, which is pretty much the bestest thing in the entire universe.
  • Quote: I take care of women after their loves lives have been spiced up.
    Love it!
  • I work in a call center, customer service for a DVR company.

...I kind of hate it, but it pays the bills while I work on figuring out what I really want to do with my life and go to school for.
  • I work in Information security or as they like to call it now 'cyber security'. Sometimes it is good but sometimes it is just a lot of tedium. I want to get into data analysis and genomics. I am going back to school.
  • Quote: I take care of women after their loves lives have been spiced up.
lol glad I could help throw business your way
  • what a lot of wonderful people around here!!!!

Hmmm. me. i'm basically an old medical writer and editor, but i started off in hospital labs as a technician in immunology and microbiology. i've been in publishing and product liability litigation [developing the science behind the case]. Am currently running a content development department for an ACCME-accredited continuing medical education provider. [confused yet? imagine what my days are like!!!]. it involves research, identifying opportunities to get grant money, selecting smart docs, nurses, and pharmacists to provide the education, and then the publishing end of it.

before the end of this year, my goal is to be in a doctoral program in medical humanities. while paying the bills. another challenge!
