Christmas Miracle

  • OK, not really a miracle, because the cause isn't really mysterious, but it's never happened before - so it feels like a miracle.

I've been very lazy dietwise for the past several months, losing and gaining the same 5 lbs. And then, weighing myself this morning, expecting to see a small post-holiday gain, and instead I lost two pounds! Whoo hoo!

I think this is the first time in memory that I ever, ever had a no-gain (let alone a loss) over Christmas. I'm not out of the clear completely - my parents are coming up from Illinois to have their Christmas with us on January 1. So, I've got to continue to be careful, but I'm really excited about this achievement. It's a pretty small thing really, but it's just one more milestone that makes "this time" different.

It helped that I had a good reason to avoid most of the treats (suspecting a wheat allergy, all of the cookies were off-limits). And the treats we bought for our home, were healthy, low-cal treats like citrus fruits. Though I did have a few pieces of chocolate - I was also very conscious of portions.

    Whoo hooo. So cool.
  • Awesome, Kaplods!!!!
  • FANTASTIC!

    Colleen!
  • HOOT 4 U!!

  • that's wonderful! I admire your self control!
  • Very, very cool! Keep up the good work!!!
  • How wonderful!!

I sort of was the same and could not really understand it. If only you knew how much I ate at Christmas, you`d apreciate that I even find it unfair myself! I need to be careful who I`ll tell this to but I actually lost 3lb! :-)
  • Congratulations!
  • Woohoo!
  • That is incredibly cool! I pm'ed you congratulating you but you must not have received it A loss over Christmas is a miracle indeed!
  • Oops, sorry (just sent my reply to your pm). I'm horrible about answering a pm if ANYTHING interrupts me and prevents me from responding immediately (hubby, in this case asking to use the computer).

I'm really excited about the coming year. I'm really planning on spending a lot more time on me this year.

If I do half as well in 2010 as you have this year (or a quarter, for that matter), I will be very happy. Actually, wherever this journey takes me, will make me happy. It's been a phenomenal experience just to put a stop to escalating weight gain. I have to acknowledge (especially when I'm tempted to feel bad about not losing faster) that it alone has been an incredible achievement. I've never been on a downward trend (or even a stable weight) for this long (about 4 years).

That is so true, and it is an inspirational example to everyone of defining for yourself what's true, and not letting society do it for you.
  • Wonderful Christmas loss! And, wise words as well. You continue to inspire the rest of us! Thanks and keep up the great work!
