it's been about 6 years. I'm still nervous learning to drive with a stranger, and just the pressure that I need to "hurry up and learn". Maybe one day I'll try again and just call a few driving schools and try different ones- maybe I'll learn quicker practicing with different cars and learn different tips from the instructors.

Good luck with yours... take a deep breath!

Ugh, this rings a bell. Not so much that I was scared.... but because it took me til 25 to get my license! I got my permit as soon as I was 16, but my dad refused to let me get my license with his car because he said that I'd have to be on his insurance, etc, and plus he never had the money to pay for my driving classes yada yada... So my grandma would let me drive, and late at night I'd take the car and go drive around when everyone was asleep! But still, no license. My permit expired, I got another one. Moved away, didn't have anyone's car to take the test with. Expired again. And so on, and so forth.... I even bought a car outright when I was 24.... got the plates in my grandma's name, and drove around for a year without a license, I was THAT desperate!

Needless to say, I was probably THE most careful driver EVER.

I finally got it a year and a half ago.... like 4 months before I turned 26. Yeesh, right?

The whole no car thing sucks... and you're RIGHT... it IS impossible to get around and maintain a good lifestyle without one if you don't live smack dab in the middle of a large city with tons of public trans.

But you know what? I know you can do it, cos if I could you definitely can!.... and you'll realize that it's not as bad as you think. Honestly, I think you just need a NORMAL person in that passenger's seat with you... and there are many.... in the past year, I taught both my 18 year old brother and 19 year old sister [and she was petrified and slightly hysterical with other people that'd tried to teach her!] how to drive on my car and they both got their licenses within a week of each other! It seems like you've just had horrible luck so far with people trying to teach you.... but you'll get someone eventually that can and will. Like everyone said above.... shop around!

Can't wait to hear you got your license!

I'm almost 23 and I still don't have mine. I went once when I was 17, wrote the paper test, failed by one question, and never went back.
I to, am scared of driving. I have driven before, mostly country roads, in my friends car, with them trying to teach me how to drive. I live in a huge busy city, and the thought of driving on the city streets makes me want to vomit. Seriously.
I think the only way I'll get over it is to go to a professional driving instructor.
I was just thinking the other day, I should go write the test again.
Good luck, girl! I feel and understand your pain.
