Default Lonely.

So, I'm sure my loneliness is because of a lot of factors but yesterday it really hit me how lonely I really am. I had surgery (nothing too major) and was completely alone (surgery and recovery all alone). I somehow ended up in a place where I really only have acquaintances and not friends. I was really sick from the anesthetic and had no one around for comfort...just me and my kiddos. (Dh was working).

I don't know how to fix this. I'm not really sure how to get out there and make friends. I often feel like I'm just "different" then other people. As of Sept I have been a SAHM and we've been trying to get out there and meet people but it's now June and I've gotten no where. I am the mom that people just like to make small talk with and move on.

I do try and put myself out there but never really get past the small talk.

Any suggestions? Anyone else out there feeling lonely?

Hi there:

I am new to the site and just read your post. I know what it is like to feel the way you do. I went through a sever depression stage a few years back and it got the best of me.

I actually decided one day that I was going to change my outlook on life. I decided that I was going to make friends and start having fun. It was the hardest hurdle I ever had to jump and it took lots of work. I actually enrolled my daughter, who was a baby at the time, into some park district suff. I made sure I was always busy doing something. At first I did not want to talk to anyone but I forced myself to do it. Started with the small talk and then moved on. Now I am a chatty Kathy and people can't shut me up. Again this was not easy and took a long time.

I would be more than happy to chat with you anytime.

Hope this helps a little.

Tracy

My SAHM days are long behind me, but here's what I did: I went to PTO meetings and volunteered for jobs. I got to know some really great people that way! Doesn't have to be PTO. Join a church or community organization. Good luck -- I remember how you are feeling.
