Talking Working out with weights

I am 63 years old, still sticking with weightwatchers, and have added weights 3 days per week (12-15+lb wts), to 30 minutes of treadmill or 1 hour walking 3 miles. My slacks are getting tighter! Can you tell me if this is temporary? I would hope to lose inches, not gain. Thank you!
