At least then it adds an element of excitement...which isn't the same as surprise excitement, but is a different kind of excitement.

Plus, it's fun. And you get to plot and plan and be generally devious.

as soon as i read this i felt horrendously guilty, although i shouldnt, T Mobile UK is a totally different entity than TMobile USA.

on a side note, how do you find the G1? i have one in white and i love it.

sorry you had a crappy experience, if i could do something i would. If you can pop into another store sometime ask for the email address for serious customer complaints, i know the uk one, but not the US one sadly. They will DEFINATELY do something, or go into the store and ask the manager to make an account credit. Im a store manager and i have the right to do that.

Aw Paula. You're sweet.

I've been a TMo customer since before they were TMobile here in the States. I've been very happy with their service up until now. And even so, the service in getting the phone and setting it up through my business account and making sure I got the maximum discount ... they were all wonderful.

It's just that this policy of sending out the text message - especially at CHRISTMAS - needs to be rethought. They did give me an online link to file a complaint with Corporate, which I did.

We're all good. Hubby has promised to be "surprised" in front of his family.

But I do love my G1. The *only* think I don't like is that I got the copper one and the backlighting is funky. When I'm wearing my sunglasses, or in twilight, it's really hard to see the keys. But aside from that small detail, I really do love it.

I totally feel your disappointment on the surprise front. DH picked out his own gift this year - we never pick out our own gifts. The surprise factor is always big for us. Well, he has been wanting a new turntable forever and he found one of those 'never see it this low again' deals on a great one back in September, so we discussed it and I bought it as his Christmas gift. So, it has been sitting in the office since then staring at us. Well, he has been pretty down in the dumps this month with things going on, balancing our family with his ex's plans, his mom has cancer, not a great December, lots of extra time with our stepson in the next two weeks, which is great, but meant he couldn't set up and play with new turntable until the 27th. And, since he is basically a little kid he was disappointed that he was going to have to wait until the 27th to play with his new toy.... So, last night I told him to go ahead and get it out and set it up - will give him a couple of days to play before we get DSS on Friday. I figure it already wasn't a surprise, so a few days didn't matter. Though, I did get him another small item that he doesn't know about, so there is that to surprise him.

(To be fair, he put the downpayment on my upcoming surgical procedure as the big part of my Christmas, so he didn't really get to surprise me either. Though I think he bought another small item also.)

Sorry that message happened the way it did! I would be annoyed by that, too, especially if the year already had some other background emotional pressure. Hope you find a wrapping or hunting way to put a fun spin on it!

I love Manda's scavenger hunt idea. If you got the accessories (car charger, etc.), you can wrap those individually and have him find those as well.

Did you keep his same phone number? Since you activated the new phone, won't his old phone get killed? We just got a new phone for boobalah. I added him to my account. They activated the phone with his current phone number and the old one got killed.

Good luck with this. Maybe you can get in touch with "customer retention" and bark at them.

Aww The surprise is like 90% of the fun! A shame it went down that way.

... but I bet he was surprised when he got that text!

I like Mandalinn's ideas. My brother & I have wrapping wars... we see who can make it more difficult to open the gift they wrapped.

And friends of mine used to put strange "non-gifts" into boxes before revealing the true gift (usually in their pocket). There are ways you can still make this surprising & fun.

Yeah. He knows about the phone but doesn't know about the case I got for it. I'll probably pick up a few small things to surprise him with.

The way it works with this account is that all you have to do is move the sim chip from the old phone to the new phone. The chip doesn't get killed ... because the phone number and account number stay the same.

The year DH gave me pearl earrings to match my mom's pearl necklace ... he put the small earring jewel box in a HUGE packing box. Like a big book box. Stuffed it with wadded up newspaper so it weighed practically nothing, and threw a handful of loose change in there, so when you shook it, it rattled like crazy.

That one totally stumped me. So when I opened it and dug through all the newspaper and pulled out all the pennies, I found the tiny earring box at the bottom. That was a fun surprise year!

I like that idea! LOL! Put a box in a box in a box in a box etc.

that would be funny!
