Odds + ends + other ends.... and still it lives!

I have some odds and ends of yarn. I was thinking about making a granny square afghan. I did once before and it was great!

Wonder if the original phrase was odd ends? I mean, what is an odds?

Gambling? Odds are it's a corruption of some old saying.

Well, it wouldn't be "an" odds. Odds is plural, so it would be an odd. An odd is a single, leftover piece of something, like a scrap of fabric. Short for "oddment."

My name is green. But I'm not sure I'm such a shining example. And I've not come up with some witty little ditty, like ... the yoyo mod er something.

i have an afghan my grandma made me out of odds and ends, since it was the 70s it's got some wild bright colors. I still cherish it.

About a dozen pages or so ago a 5 word response was what was being done here, but this thread has had an ever changing life all it's own!!!
