you are so funny. How is that puppy doing today? I don't like any of those names but I can't think of one I like better, I will think on that today and see if I can come up with something.

Cashew 08-20-2008 07:32 AM

When it comes to black dog I have a few favorite names.
Shadow - Double meaning since they are black and follow you around
Vader - Luke use the force :)
Midnight - A childhood friends dogs name just grew on me.

amouse 08-20-2008 07:35 AM

hahah, not as funny as the puppy I'm not! He's a handful! Can't keep him out of the bathtub without closing the door at all times! Yesterday he got in there barking at the spout! I went in to see this, he's crouched down, barking as if saying "where's the water? water? water!" when he saw me he pawed at the faucet asking me to turn it on for him! On our walk yesterday he ran in the ditch that had just enough water to be mud! YUP, he came home brown, caked on mud! So I used the hose to spray, you'd thought the dog had died and gone to heaven! I couldn't believe it, he loved that ice cold water!

ladybugnessa 08-20-2008 08:17 AM

big black dogs should be named Bear.

tamaralynn 08-20-2008 08:37 AM

Love the name Tucker!

Also - Trigger :)

OnceUponADrive 08-20-2008 08:40 AM

Tucker's cute. I also like Jackson.

Loriann7 08-20-2008 08:54 AM

Thanks guys, just so you know, the pic is of my girl, Jade, she's much prettier than "Guiness".... he's the funniest looking lab I've ever seen! I think part of it is cause he's only 41 lbs, way underweight for his age/height!

JuliaDH 08-20-2008 08:59 AM

I like Tucker. But what would it sound like if you were to say it fast when calling him if he runs away???? Maybe Knight? Or Oliver?

bargoo 08-20-2008 09:05 AM

For a black dog, how about Blackie or Jet ?

Hat Trick 08-20-2008 09:26 AM

Since he's all black, how about Boo?

Or you could call him dog but spell it out, like it's a name: dei-oh-gee

Cute pup!

Loriann7 08-20-2008 09:27 AM

OK, I'm wierd.. just thought if I name him Jesse or Jessie, it would be very close to Jessie James... sound this out... Jessie and Jade! :)

ladybugnessa 08-20-2008 09:29 AM

KELL-EV spelled Keliv. it's hebrew it means DOG

bargoo 08-20-2008 09:33 AM

And of course there is always Phideau (Fido) means faithful. And your dog is faithful when no one else is.

ollie27 08-20-2008 09:40 AM

"johnny" is cool.

I thought so, but my sis says it reminds her of our brother! :(. His name was Johnny. I was born on his fifth birhtday, and I sure do miss him! He was killed in a tragic accident in 98.

KLK 08-20-2008 09:48 AM

Aww! Cute puppy! I have a golden retreiver/german shepherd mix named Teddie -- she looked like a little bear as a puppy (all gold and floppy and fuzzy), so we called her "Teddy" and feminized it to "Teddie." Now she's known as "baby," "Teds," "The Ted," "potato," "cutie," "puppy," and a zillion other nicknames lol. We rarely call her by her actual name lol.

For a male black dog... of the names you listed, I like Andy. I'd have to meet the new puppy and get a sense of his personality before I come up with anything else new.

Good luck with him, he's a sweetheart! :D

sorry to here about your brother. but is a reminder necessarily a bad thing?

my 2 yr old nephew's name is johnny. i mean it just ooozes coolness and life some how.

Cat

Loriann7 08-20-2008 10:11 AM

KLK< i don't have a pic of him, that avator is of my girl, Jade!

AS to his personality, he wont leave my side! Even gets in shower with me (until i started locking him in his crate while I shower) and he's all puppy, 100% play! The previous owners spent zero time with him, but he's excitable. When he plays he jumps on me, (I'm teaching him thats not how we play in this house) and when he runs through the house it's a playful hopping run. He gets along great with Jade because she's determined she's the alpha, and he allows her to be!` He's a sweetie, only time I've heard him bark is in the crate. He's learning thats his friend, not enemy!

Loveable little guy, needs training and a little meat to his bones!

The lucky name has a story as well folks. I had a greed to drive an hour and a half to meet him, the day I was to pick him up I got called for a second interview the day after. So if I get the job, thats why someone on the South Beach forum decided lucky would be cool! :)

I still like Jessie, Tucker and Johnny, but I fear I'm about the only one (other than Ollie ) that likes Johnny!

hhmmm, Ollie wouldn't be bad! LOLOL JK

I just looked at his papers, his registered name is "Guinness Jack Philip Clementi" I could call him Jack... but I can hear my sister now, hre father in laws name is Jack! and, well, um, no! LOLOL

looks like we're the only ones with any kind of taste:)

ollie would be bad for a dog (i know you were kiddin;)), but i do have an affinity for "O" names: like oscar or oliver

suetalks 08-20-2008 10:39 AM

You could call him J.P. for Jack Phillip or even Clem. :)

A friend had a female basset named Miss Kitty....this referring to the poster who said "Cat." LOL

I really like Jet or Jack though.

Loriann7 08-20-2008 10:49 AM

I just called the AKC and found out there's a trillion Tuckers, and very few JOhnny's! Forgot to ask about Jessies. But I can change his name since he's never been bred or shown! Once that happens they really need to stay with that name!

And he's purebred so could use him as a stud to get some money! But I know having him fixed also helps with his temperament.

KLK 08-20-2008 10:52 AM

Oh, I see :o lol. well -- SHE is very cute then!

Post a picture of a new puppy too :)

beachgal 08-20-2008 11:00 AM

Loriann, sounds like you have a ton of great ideas for names! I understand why it might be hard to have a reminder of your brother, but it might be a nice reminder, though, right?

Please do consider fixing him. There are so many dogs out there without good homes. Whenever someone has an unplanned litter, the puppies from that litter take possible homes away from those in the shelters--leaving even more dogs to be euthanized. It's something I feel really strongly about. Just my $0.02. Getting off the :soap: now...

weezle 08-20-2008 11:03 AM

What about like, Rowdy? Or Wrigley? Brinkley? Odie? Rascal? Brutus? Gus? Buddy?

tater tash 08-20-2008 11:09 AM

I like Andy.. I'm totally against naming my pets after generic pet names (i.e. my all black cat is named miss alice)

I love when people name their pets people names or after celebrities, like Ringo or Humphrey Bogart ha.

Loriann7 08-20-2008 11:30 AM

At 20 votes, 10 are for Tucker, 3 for other, 2 for Andy, Jessie, and Lucky, and one for Johnny! :).

Loriann7 08-20-2008 11:31 AM

hhhmmm, Weezle, Rowdy would fit him nicely! sort of has a nice ring to it.

Loriann7 08-20-2008 11:33 AM

beachgal, I often have "preached" that same song! Usually when people buy a purebred, and thats what the puppies would be, purebred, they spend a pretty penny for it, and usually (though not all the time, as in the case of this puppy) they do train it and give it a good home.

And wether it's my puppy that fathers them or not, breeders are going to breed t heir females! So, why not jump in on it?

Loriann7 08-20-2008 12:32 PM

OK, I think I have a middle name for him...

My favorite author, one of them, is Arthur Walkington Pink (I KNOW, I KNOW, STRANGE)... so I was thinking Walkington! Different ...

My other all time favorite is William Gurnall.... I could use Gurnall, it's original! (pronounced Grrrrr n all! :)

Tucker Walkington
Tucker walkington Gurnall

Johnny Tucker Gurnall
Johnny Walkington Gurnall
Johnny Walkington

Jessie Tucker Gurnall
Jessie Tucker Walkington

Gurnall Walkington?

Tell me to shut up if I'm over obsessing!?!!!!

Loriann7 08-20-2008 12:36 PM

Or..

switching gurnall and walkington

Johnny Gurnall Walkington
Tucker Gurnall Walkington
Jessie Gurnall Walkington

luckymommy 08-20-2008 12:36 PM

I like Jessie! :) I have a dog and his name is Einstein. He's a Goldendoodle, so he looks like a golden retriever with a bit of a perm. The hair on top of his head is crazy like Einstein, but so far, he's no genius, but we love 'em anyway! ;)

aphil 08-20-2008 12:54 PM

Now, I wouldn't suggest this for anyone else...but if "I" had a black male dog, his name would be Sirius. That would be the only option.
