Here are pictures of the two I have. I want more (they are addicting!) I think the next one will be on my shoulder.

The first one (one my foot) is of a dove with an olive branch. I wouldn't recommend the placement though. It hurt a lot more then the one on my back and I bled a lot. I think it's right above a vein. Oh and pardon the dryness of my feet. I need to be better about putting lotion on them.

The second picture is an artistic representation of St. Andrew's cross (on my lower back.) It's stretched a bit since I had to bend over a bit to take the picture. It's actually round and even on all sides. This was my first tattoo. I've had it for 10 years and color still looks great.

Are you going to show yours Paula?

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 04:03 PM

I have a few!!

i love your dove, so beautiful!

i have this on my right inner forearm, its my own design, its my own respresentation of a charm bracelet.

http://1.2.3.13/bmi/www.bodymod.org/.../21954-med.jpg

i have this on my lower back, my most painful tattoo to date...

http://1.2.3.10/bmi/www.bodymod.org/.../19701-med.jpg

This was the first stage of my half sleeve, its my right upper arm.. and its inspired by old navy tattoos, sailor jerry etc and its really beautiful.. i love it and its a work in progress

http://1.2.3.9/bmi/www.bodymod.org/T.../22840-med.jpg

here is the back of the arm:

http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages...16273-full.jpg

and here is the picture from my recent session to begin colouring that sleeve

http://www.bodymod.org/Tat/TatImages...00095-full.jpg

i love tattoos, im fascinated by them and the history behind them... i think of my body as a canvass and enjoy coming up with ideas about what i want to decorate myself with, i design all of my own and work closely with my artist who is a genius!

im a history student and im actually writing my final paper on the history of tattoos, tribes and the link to modern day society.

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 04:05 PM

i also have a few piercings.. i have stretched ears, a lip ring, a cartiledge piercing in my ear, my lower naval and also my wrist pierced ;)

PhotoChick 05-04-2008 05:28 PM

Oh oh ohoh! :)

I got my first tat on Friday and I'm SUPER excited about it. I already want another.

Here's he very bad photo of it ... the color is better now that the redness and swelling are going down. It's a blue stylized dragonfly behind my right ear.

Here's some really dry skin pictures of my current ink.

I've got plans on a sleeve and a back piece, but I currently live about 6 hours away from my guy and it's hard to get the break off school long enough to get anything substantial done.

The one of the koi is my little sister's first tattoo right after it was done about two weeks ago. She got it done on her ribs and it looks amazing now. I was definitely proud she got such a big piece done for her first, and she took it like a champ.

She also kept rolling her eyes at the girl in the next chair who kept squealing that she couldn't take the tiny star on her wrist and she was shaking from the pain (seriously, it was about the size of a dime).

I also have some words in hebrew on the insides of my wrists.

Good grief. I was a bit nervous going into mine cause everyone kept saying that the neck was a painful location ... but really getting a brazilian wax hurts more than this did. Maybe it was the adrenaline rush, but I didn't think it was that bad.

.

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 05:53 PM

cool... behind ear tattoos are awesome !

i love your feet zen!! and your sisters tattoo is gorgeous!

i would LOVE a chest piece but its a big step i think.. very showy.

i have plans for leopard print in a v going from my mid back up to my shoulders... and my best friend and i want a pirate ship somewhere :)

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 06:16 PM

love it kiss kiss!! wrist tattoos are hardcore :)

kisskiss 05-04-2008 06:19 PM

thanks pretty paula :) i felt pretty bad @ss
lol. also in my defense, my tat is the size of a quarter. almost. ;)

Spoz 05-04-2008 06:19 PM

Wow, you all have amazing tattoos! I've been obsessed with them since quite a young girl though after several billion piercings I decided to leave them till I'm absolutely sure.

Paula, I really like your past, present and future tattoo, it's stunning :)

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 06:34 PM

thankyou! it will be amazing when its finished... im lucky that i found a great artist who totally got me when i drew stuff out!

the past present future and the 3 diamonds represents my relationship with fiance, as he bought me a trilogy diamond engagement ring... three diamonds to represent past present and future.

Spoz 05-04-2008 06:36 PM

Ah what a thoughtful tattoo.. It's so nice when they have deep meanings behind them. Art is fantastic but when it has no meaning it seems so pointless..

I would absolutely love a sleeve like that, but full of Nintendo/Zelda characters, but I'm too paranoid about how it would affect work and such. I love all them type of tattoos with the swallows and such, gorgeous!

Here are mine, sorry they're small

First is the 3 stars (right ankle) the little one is me, the medium my Dad and the biggest my Mum (the little one didn't heal so well so I'm gonna get that touched up).
Second (back of the neck) is the symbol for nine in Elvish, me and my best friend got the same one because we both love LotR, and nine is my favourite number.
And last (left wrist) is my first tattoo which is the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda.

Thank you for listening ;)

Zen Pharmacy 05-04-2008 06:47 PM

Oh, I understand about the work thing.

It sucks to have to wear trousers or opaque stockings or tights and never get to wear skirts because I can't show my tattoos on rotation. I've never been worried about the arms because we have the white coats, but try wearing girly shoes with a foot tattoo.

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 07:12 PM

ya know something, i think once the current like 50+ generation retire, there wont be such a huge social stigma attached to tattoos.. people in my generation pretty much all have them now.. we dont see it like they did... women with tattoos arent whores... my mum was brought up to think that... but its dying out.. slowly yet surely..

i wouldnt get my hands or face tattooed.. simply because im not in that line of work, if i was i would.

tattoos should be seen as no different to ear piercings.. give it time, they will lose their stigma.. along with other things..

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 07:13 PM

PS. can everyone see the other first 3 pics i posted?

That is my right shoulder/back tattoo.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...s/ankletat.jpg

This one is on my left outside ankle.

I am going to have the one on my shoulder/back turned into a butterfly, that's what the symbol means. I will have the symbols as the body and then the wings coming off from the symbol. It sounds good in my head so maybe on paper and then skin it will look good as well.

I want that one and probably 2 more after that.

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 07:33 PM

i love that idea!!! any thoughts on colours yet?

Zen Pharmacy 05-04-2008 07:42 PM

Well, in pharmacy (especially retail), you deal with so much of the elderly population that it will be an issue for most of my career. Maybe not so much in a clinical/hospital setting.

Though I can understand their mentality, I think it's a little more comforting to see someone checking your medication that looks like they just left the library than a punk show.

Speaking of, I'm quite familiar with Nottingham. It's my home away from home when I'm in that part of the world. Well that and a tiny little farm of hippies out in Shropshire.

PrettyPaula 05-04-2008 07:47 PM

i think id prefer the punk checking mine ;)

nottinghams cool.. love it but only for a few more yrs then im coming to america baby!
i love that idea!!! any thoughts on colours yet?
As of right now I want bright bold vibrant colors like bright orange, yellow, green, purple. It may change by the time i get in the chair though!

Your tats are very cool! I love how everyone has such unique things.

Oh, PrettyPaula, what stunning, classic tattoo art! The colors are soooo rich. You did your homework, girl, it looks perfect on you. Here are my current tats- I am planning to get some lovely vines and autumn leaves around my upper arms when I can. I'm a bit worried about visibility at work as well (I'm a veterinarian), but the white coat should cover all. And for the record- I cried (silently, though) for the ENTIRE three and a half hours that it took to ink my Fox- really, there was a puddle of my tears on the floor. It was even worse than post-surgical pain for me- but I wanted it so badly, I kept saying "Please, just keep going". I think that I worried the artist! The fox is my totem animal, and the pattern is adapted from a Stephanie Law drawing. The kittens are in honor of my own feline family, and my patients. They come from "Two Too Many", a children's picture book beloved to me. Keep the pictures coming!

I hear ya on that one! I find it especially hard to even find girly shoes that frame my tatto in a pretty way (yes, I'm silly.)

zenor77 05-04-2008 10:34 PM

Everyone's tattoos look beautiful!

I've been thinking of either getting thistles done around my cross (it's a Scottish heritage thing as is the cross) or an acorn and oak leaf (on shoulder) for my next one. I have a couple tame piercings as well. I have a gauged cartilage piercing and my nose is pierced. I used to have my nipples pierced, but they just wouldn't heal and kept getting infected.

martinlady711 05-05-2008 01:34 AM

I have some piercings as well. I'd like -ahem- another one but im a bit chicken currently. I have my tongue, 2/3 ears, cartilage, and tragus. I could NEVER get my nipples done...the thought of it makes me wanna die really, even though I hear it doesn't hurt all that badly.

Your tats are very neat for the lack of a better word as I'm tired but can't sleep and its 4:40am! I would love to see a pic if you get one of your ribcage tat, that sounds really cool. You have girly bits done eh? I soooo want to do that! Well not the "bits" but the "bit";)

Here are my tatt's. First one was on the back of my neck. It is the name Sewake. It is the Japanese side of my family. I put that one there for my oldest son. The next one is on my lower back, I do agree it is the most painful spot. I wanted to cry. even the tattoo artist told me that I'm gonna be saying, "F------ Leo". That one is for my husband. I still have to get three more. I want to get my DS2's and DD's actual baby foot prints on my back somewhere (not too painful hopefully) and I still have to get DS4's but don't know what I want for his.

I got this back in 2005.

I'd love to have another one, but still not sure what yet. Getting another on my 30th bday.

My butterfly represents my freedom from abuse. I was abused throughout my childhood - and now that I have my own family - we're free from the cycle.

For my first pharmacy interview the woman was rather mean to me and said that I'd have to take my piercings out, I told her I'd get a retainer that you can't notice and she was like "no, you will have to actually take them out." I understand but there was no need to say it like that lol

For my second interview I just took them out before I went in.

All the elderly people I know (and I know a lot! lol) aren't phased in the slightest by them so I didn't really get why everyone half a mile up the road would be lol

Zen Pharmacy 05-05-2008 10:30 AM

About a week before I started, I got called into the Dean of Students office and was told that my ink may be okay in some place like San Francisco, but it would not work here.

I'm not saying it's right, but the stereotypes associated with tattoos are out there. Does school make a bigger deal out of it than the real world probably will? Maybe, or most likely, rather. But I was also assigned to a different rotation due to my tattoos because it made a patient uncomfortable (my scrubs were torn on the leg in a me being clumsy and running into things accident). It completely changed her opinion of me. It was a small long term care facility and you know, I'm okay with it. I'm not out to change the minds of people who are almost 90 in a nursing home. My preceptor didn't blame me and in fact gave a glowing review so my school didn't think I was inept at patient care.

But pharmacy school opinions on dress are quirky. I think it just depends on where you are. I know a guy in his 3rd year who was turned away from an exam because he forgot a tie that morning. So he had to drive out to the closest mass merchant and buy one before they'd let him in.

Rhighlan86 05-05-2008 10:52 AM

KateRN - I nearly spit my Diet Dew on the computer when I saw your finger tattoos, that is absolutely priceless! I love it! The disguise one is going to keep me giggling throughout the day and today with my biggest final coming I needed that  I love all of the others too especially the one in gaelic, but those are really unique

Nope. It was weird, no pain, just burning. Like they were on fire when the needle went through.

I also didn't think that my lower back tattoo hurt much. Now the one on my foot... Ooooo, did I curse A LOT with that one!

I don't think tatts are as taboo as they used to be. Being a GEN Xer (tail end~I'm a young Xer ;)) I've never known anyone of my friends (or family for that matter) that has said anything bad against tattoos. They aren't just for sailors anymore. I'll cover mine for work, but I won't take out my nose ring. I figure if they have that much of a problem with it then I shouldn't work there.

KateRN~Love the sleeve!
