And butter on steak?! Wow...I don't even know what to say to that.
It's actually a foodie thing. Anyone who is really into food (and esp steaks) knows that buttering the steak adds a creaminess and flavor as well as a nice glaze. A really good steak place will use seasoned butter - garlic maybe or a little bit of pepper and chive.

It really makes a HUGE flavor difference. Of course it' makes a huge calorie difference, too.

Yeah, the first time I heard about buttering steaks at restaurants, I was shocked too!

Tonia-- baby steps is RIGHT! None of us gets this right the first time. Think of this as a lifelong education. We'll all have at least master's degrees before we're done!

It can be shocking to see the calories in restaurant foods. And those calories are only as accurate as the kitchen staff.

Making the best choices you can is important, obviously, but even those best choices can be tough. I ordered a grilled veggie sandwich with fruit (no mayo or cheese came on it) and was shocked to learn later it was about 800 calories. Still better for me than many other choices I could have made.

But that is one reason I limit eating out. A meal or two that runs 1000 calories won't kill me or the scale, as long as it is very occasional. Right now I have actually made some decisions to NOT eat out. I like the control of preparing my own food.
