I tend to get annoyed by the person who psycho analyzes every single thing. Come on now.....I ate the d@#$ candy bar because I was feeling weak...not because my mother took my bottle away too early.

SoulBliss 09-14-2007 04:48 PM

 I know that I eat candy (or French fires or any other high fat and calorie food) because it tastes good and I like it, not because of some heavy, underlying tragedy that occurred when I was an infant.

People who use intentionally bad grammar bother me. People who use unintentionally bad grammar bother me, too. So do misspellings of easy words and those who use "your" instead of "you're" People who are too lazy to capitalize slightly grind my nerves (though moreso if they ALSO forget punctuation) and those who use commas instead of periods make me not want to even read their posts!

Trolls tick me off, too, but they're rarely on this site! :D

On a non-grammar-related note, people who only post negative things also annoy me immensely.

lizziness 09-14-2007 04:49 PM

I hate to say it - but whiners bug me. People who make multiple posts contstantly to give us an update of their personal life... also known as trolls perhaps? I mean, people have a hard time, and we're here for support and I want to help support people as much as anybody else ... but sometimes I run out of it, and patience. I guess I'm mean.

Also Anybody Who Feels The Need To Make The First Letter A Cap Drives Me Nuts!

If someone's grammar and spelling is really bad, I won't read their thread. Is that mean too?

Lizziness~what I understand about this, it is the website that does this when the poster won't turn off the cap lock! But, I have to tell you, my DH does this when he writes! It is so hard to figure out what he's really meaning to capitalize!

The first instance occurs (on this site, anyway) when people use their "caps lock" for an entire thread. Actually, that brings up another pet peeve of mine--people who feel the need to CONSTANTLY SHOUT AT ME THROUGH THEIR TYPING BY CAPITALIZING EVERY-SINGLE-WORD.

And, no, it's not mean to skip those threads--I do, too! (Well, I guess it could be mean, but at least we're in good company :) )

I used to get really annoyed by mispellings and horrible grammar. But then fibromyalgia hit my brain as well as my body, and now I literally have times when I lose my spelling ability. I find myself spelling words phonetically, even very simple ones. I'm constantly mixing up they're and their, and to, too, and two, which I haven't done since fifth grade. And one hand sometimes now gets ahead of the other when typing (thus words like hte), and you know I try to reread my post before submitting, but a lot of the time it seems I only catch it after it's out there for all the world to see.

I still feel that twinge of annoyance when I see those mistakes like loose instead of lose, and all the others mentioned, but now that the shoe is on the other foot sometimes, I'm a little more generous.

"i thought i was prolly the only one bothered by silly little things like this"

u r so losen up or loose the attitud. :) (Just kidding, of course.)

I don't see it much on these boards, but "data is" drives me nuts. "Data" is plural for datum, so it should be "data are."

Adding an apostrophe before the s in a plural noun (e.g., "car's for sale") also makes me cringe.

I don't even bother to read posts in which every word is capitalized or none are.

A lot of things, really. :)

NewDay4MeToo 09-14-2007 05:17 PM

This is not so much as an online thing, as a dieting community thing. I get really annoyed by some certain catch phrases that get used again and again. There is really nothing wrong with them... I don't know why it gets to me. So, here goes... "I'm going to do this to kickstart my weight loss," "I gained x pounds in 2 days, but I suspect most of it is water weight," "I have stayed the same weight for three days, I have hit a plateau..."

I have probably said all of those things, so I don't want to be overly critical. But some of the phrases that I read again and again bug me.

SoulBliss 09-14-2007 05:20 PM

Newday, I also have a "catch phrase" that irritates me! I abhor it when people say that they "binged" when they only ate a few hundred calories extra beyond what they planned.

Starting a thread and getting NO RESPONSES!!!
Getting NO RESPONSES to a post to a thread - like noone reads them, they just read the first post and then flip to the end to respond! Thereby missing all the good and relevant responses in between!
(I don't expect a response to this post :) )

SoulBliss 09-14-2007 05:28 PM

Freiamaya, getting no response to something I have replied to directly happens to me ALL the time (it's even happened already in this thread  ). I think I must be invisible sometimes! :o

nicolen 09-14-2007 05:30 PM

*responds to freiamaya* ;)

That can get annoying. I've said before in the 100 lb club that I should be called the official thread killer because the number of times I'm the last person to respond to a thread before it dies is phenomenal.

Grammar is a big one. I can ignore misspellings, although if I'm in a grumpy mood they do annoy me. What I can't ignore are people that do not capitalise proper nouns or the first word of a sentence and then type everything they have to say in one paragraph. I am probably not going to read that post as it's too much effort.

Those people who think that theirs is the only way or opinion is the only one that counts and shout down anyone who has something to say that's even remotely different from their point of view. Thankfully, we don't seem to see too much of this here - everyone seems to respect each other's point of view and while there are disagreements, everyone's polite about it.

Trolls that come just to cause chaos. Something we don't seem to have too many of here.
