How much are you paying for gas?

I filled up Saturday and it was $2.96. Decided to top it up today and it had gone up to $3.36. Yikes that's an increase of 40 cents.

So what are you paying?

Sassy_Chick 05-23-2007 07:51 PM

$3.49 here in most places, a few places are now down to $3.39......

jtammy 05-23-2007 07:54 PM

$2.99 still in the town my DH works in, although it peaked at $3.12 in the town I work in last week.

mandalinn82 05-23-2007 08:09 PM

3.29 right now - its actually down from a couple weeks ago.

Tinky009 05-23-2007 08:15 PM

Ugh...we're paying 3.55 for premium! Sad sad sad!

staciec878 05-23-2007 08:25 PM

3.09 is the cheapest over here. :(

lottalisa 05-23-2007 08:34 PM

Hi!
$3.11 here in Upstate NY. I am sure it will skyrocket though soon. I am near Saratoga, Lake George area and we are starting our busiest season this week.
WOW! Some of you are paying a ton!
Lisa

murphmitch 05-23-2007 08:34 PM

$3.26 here in Iowa. That's down 3 cents since Monday.

NemesisClaws 05-23-2007 08:39 PM

$3.49 right now, and just about every other day, the price keeps going up and up. You know what gets me though....they say more and more folks are taking the bus, but no one ever mentions whether or not the bus fares have gone up...I wonder...

Get n healthy 05-23-2007 09:00 PM

I cant even look anymore. I just know when i bought my car it took almost $20 to fill it up. Now it takes $45. That is insane.

They say it is a supply and demand problem...i just dont get that though. I dont think i am using more than TWICE what i was when i bought my car, so how come my fill up doubled? I think we need to look at why the gas companies are having record profits...like 500% increase in profit...and they say supply and demand?....sounds like the only *demanding and suppling* going on is that gas companies are *demanding* my *supply* of money with record profits. :-(

walking2lose 05-23-2007 09:14 PM

I feel a little lucky here in ole' Virginia -- $2.86. Not bad compared to some

shrinkingchica 05-23-2007 09:21 PM

Um, I think about $3.10 or so, as it changes. When I first got my car in '02 it cost $20 to fill it up, now it is more like $40. Ouch.

murphmitch 05-23-2007 09:28 PM

shrinkingchica-I love your avatarl Where did you get it?

RidiculouslyAddicted 05-23-2007 09:52 PM

Um, here in Edmonton, Alberta (with a refinery right at the edge of town, nonetheless), it's 1.21 a LITER. So approximately 4.84 a gallon. :(

royalsfan1 05-23-2007 10:00 PM

$2.99 so far. It's been a little over and a little under the $3 range for about a month, now. I HATE it!

I saw on CNN that some people in the government are wanting legislation giving them the ability to monitor the gas companies and ensure that we aren't being gouged....I guess they are thinking that's what's going on, now. Anyway, I, for one, hope that legislation gets somewhere!

(Although - as Shelby pointed out - our gas is STILL cheaper than Canada and Europe!)

Heather 05-23-2007 10:05 PM

We're $3.55 or so for REGULAR. I almost choked when I saw the prices this weekend...

littlered 05-23-2007 10:08 PM

Hi,
I saw $3.60 today in North central ohio. That is for the cheap gas.
its crazy, the govenment really has to do something!

EZMONEY 05-23-2007 10:48 PM

An arm and a leg ~ plus my first born son a gallon here in sunny San Diego :)

shananigans 05-23-2007 10:49 PM

$3.39 :(

I need to trade in for a hybrid. Or get a job where I can work from home

Stepping Out 05-23-2007 10:58 PM

Ouch!

We're blessed here on the border between GA & FL. It's still only :dizzy: $2.96 a gallon. We get ours with a Wally World gift card, so we save 3 cents ;)

Shelby, that's unbelievable! $4.84 a gallon in the middle of oil country .

Ouch, I thought it would have been California that was the most expensive.

EZMONEY 05-23-2007 11:25 PM

Actually CLYDEGIRL for low grade it has been between $3.31 and $3.69 a gallon for the last week down here.

lilybelle 05-23-2007 11:32 PM

It is now $3.43 a gallon here. Does anyone else notice that this happens each yr. when the temperature goes up. It occurs to me that when we finally get lower gas heating bills, the price at the pump goes up.

I drive an Expedition and it costs $80.00 to fill it up. I'm glad I stay at home now. I try to conserve on my driving when gas prices are this high.

zenor77 05-23-2007 11:53 PM

I just paid $3.49/gallon to fill up. Actually not any worse than what we are used to. It's been over $3 a gallon for well over a year. But I did make sure I got gas today before the price goes up for the holiday weekend.

DH and I have been thinking of buying bicycles to get to work. We live very close to his job, but it'd be a 5 mile ride each way for me and I'm not in the best shape. I'm looking into getting a bike with electric assist for the days when I'm too tired to peddle.

kella 05-24-2007 01:40 AM

It's $2.99 here in nowhere, Tennessee. It's been like that for a few weeks now. I was in Nashville today visiting the parents and it's up to about $3.25 there. For some reason it doesn't seem like it's that much of a crunch on my budget... I drive an old Volvo (gets about 25 mpg) and I've just been consolidating trips. The only places I drive on a regular basis are work and the gym, and both of those places are within 5 miles of my house. I live within walking distance to the university, and there's a convenience store right around the corner. So I guess I'm lucky even though this town has nonexistent public transportation.

techwife 05-24-2007 05:58 AM

$3.22 here in Northern New York (near Watertown).

Although...we have a grocery store in our neck of the woods called Price Chopper and they have an Advantage Card that you use to get specific specials on certain items. Well...about a year ago they started to have a save-at-the-pump program where for every $50 you buy on groceries and use your Advantage Card, you save 10 cents on a fill up. Well..I'm a professional grocery shopper and in a month I got that reduction up to $1.10 a gallon, bringing my price to $1.91 or so a few months ago!! I filled up the ole Blazer with $25!!! Of course, I can only do that once a month or two...but it's nice to get that break every now and then...and you can only go to participating Sunoco stations and the only one I know of is right in front of Price Chopper and it's always packed so it takes a while to pay for it, etc...but still very much worth it!!

You poor Canadians...I had no idea it was so bad up there!! If the prices here get that bad, I'll have to quit my job or at least crunch all my hours into one long day.

FrouFrou 05-24-2007 01:47 PM

Lilybelle...I have noticed that it does go up at certain times of the year but it has never been this high before, not here anyway.

We were up to $3.29 over this past weekend but it is down to $3.19 today, lol. Still high and some are saying it will go up to $4, yikes! Glad DH works 5 minutes from his job.

srmb60 05-24-2007 01:50 PM

I had to do some math but I believe it to be about $4.05 here today.

CarolynFL 05-24-2007 02:56 PM

Too Much!! 3.43 per gallon for the cheap stuff when I filled up the other day. Unreal!

Jayjay55 05-24-2007 03:43 PM

Another Canadian paying over $5 a US gallon. We have huge discrepancies across the country of course we are the highest of all. Last year we made the decision to purchase a smaller car and car pool. I end up having to wait up to 45 minutes a day --- but its worth it when I pay the fuel bill each month. Our SUV rarely goes anywhere and only costs about $50 to fuel up.

jillybean720 05-24-2007 04:21 PM

I paid $3.19 a few days ago, but I know it's gone up since then. They said on the news today to hurry up and fill up today because all-time record high prices are expected for the coming season. Hurray

The one near my house is only $3.11 for some reason, which is odd since I live right off a major highway and am closer to the city than my office is (the $3.19 was out by my office).

Haven't Canadians always paid a bit more than us? Europeans, too. Not to say it's fair, but I think the increases are probably about the same percentage-wise.

What I don't get is why gas prices NEVER returned to "normal" amounts after Katrina. I understand why they spiked post-Katrina, but then it never got below $2 a gallon after that (not around here, anyway), whereas it had NEVER hit $2 before that. I know the war in Iraq is the excuse for everything now, but we should just now be complaining about gas prices going over $2.50 and getting closer to $3, not nearing or exceeding $4 or $5.

707Goddess 05-24-2007 04:45 PM

YEP 3.29 a gallon and i just had to be the lucky one to purchase a 1999 suburban which has all the upgrades 22 inch chrome rims AND drum roll please .......... a 52 gallon gas tank for those long trips (around 200 to fill up) ohh boy you know im doing back flips when im spending 120 a week on gas and thats only 15 miles one way to work and 15 back 5 days a week
I am buying a bus pass for 50 bucks a month the bus time is 45 mins tops from home to work so im gonna start busing it my DH doesnt like it but oh well at least through summer i can save us some money untill school start's back up for the kids anyways
Michelle

WaterRat 05-24-2007 04:58 PM

Yikes. I feel better now. Ours was $3.05 yesterday, and in Anchorage I'm told it's still under $3. But not for long I'm sure. :)

Clydegirl 05-24-2007 05:03 PM

It went down 10 cents today. Of course I filled up yesterday thinking it would get higher because of the holiday weekend.

alinnell 05-24-2007 05:05 PM

We haven't seen anything under $3 for over a year or more. While I don't pay really close attention to it, I believe the current prices are $3.59/3.69/3.79 give or take .20.

GrammyL 05-25-2007 03:43 PM

Gas was 3.65 when I filled up last night in Central Michigan.

Sakai 05-25-2007 05:25 PM

$2.99 in my tiny town in Arizona.
It's gone up and I do think it will go up for the holiday weekend.
I only put $15 worth of gas in my car when I go to the tank. My car is pretty small and does good on gas (for being a 15 year old car)
plus I live about 4 miles from work and everywhere I need to go is 6 miles away or closer...so yeah, $15 will last me the week.
Plus the Doc's gas station offers a 5 cent discount when you pay cash, (so that comes out to something like 27 cents worth of free gas... not much but every bit helps. )

almostheaven 05-25-2007 06:38 PM

We live in the tri-state area, so gas varies quite a lot around here since we're dealing with 3 different states within 10 minutes of each other. Its ranging between $3.18 to $3.49 right now.

murphmitch 05-25-2007 10:00 PM

It's $3.06 today here in Iowa. That's a 20 cent drop in 4 days. This is crazy!

ennay 05-26-2007 09:25 AM

I think I was at 3.79 for premium the other day, 3.51 for regular

Putting $53 in the minivan was sticker shock, but the thing has a huge tank, putting over $50 in dh's car floored me.

Some how the past week I've gotten stuck with all the fills. I had been driving the minivan instead of my car for awhile so filled that up ($50- Friday) then the NEXT day I took my car for the first time in 2 weeks and it was empty so filled that up ($45) then 2 days later I had dh's car for only a short bit, but the light came on so I filled it up ($51 - Mon) and he had driven the minivan out of town last weekend and I took it shopping out of town thursday and had to fill it again ($53 - thursday). So in 7 days I spent $200 on gas. Hopefully we are stocked up for a while now.

I did notice that for the first time in 20 years the difference between regular and premium is more than $0.20
