I never used numbing for my laser hair removal but it didn't hurt all too bad EXCEPT for hair under my brow line/along my eye lid. It was so painful, tears were coming out of my eyes and I couldn't even control them. I'd never do that area again.

Supposedly more than a couple of hairs (stiff, beard-like) on a female's chin/upper lip means some kind of hormonal imbalance. You can look it up on the internet under "hirsuitism". I started out w/a few hairs, which I plucked, in my mid-20's. I realize I have more than most women--but NOW it goes back under my chin, up over my chin and around my mouth. I am dark haired. If I do not remove hair (shave) every other day at LEAST I start looking PRETTY FREAKY. I think I could compete w/my 18 year-old son--ha ha. I've GOT to see my Doc because they DO have meds for this condition!!!

Best--
Mya

I have had laser on my facial hair, and the nurse said NOT to pluck because it makes them come back in coarser and stronger. I plucked for a long time before getting laser and they were stubborn little buggers!

Anyway, if you can afford it, go for the laser.

ETA: I googled hirsutism, the word mentioned by Mya because I had never heard of it before, and found this interesting.

Quote:
Growing evidence implicates high circulating levels of insulin in women to the development of hirsutism. This theory is consistent with the observation that obese (and thus presumably insulin resistant hyperinsulinemic) women are at high risk of becoming hirsute. Further, treatments that lower insulin levels will lead to a reduction in hirsutism.

My dear hubby says I can grow a beard quicker than he can. Just as well he loves me.

At the moment I wax about every 10 days I have a wax pot and use the salon wax. I would love to get it lasered when I pluck up the courage to do it.

I wonder if anyone has tried Vaniqua. It's one of those things I've been interested in but never remember to ask the Dr. about... It looks like it's just a cream that you put on to keep it from growing?

I've got the eyebrows from **** and a mustache I've been struggling against since puberty. I used to use depilatory creams but they stink and burn and i'd take the hair over the big red blotches... right now I use a combo of plucking and one of those epilady razor things. It doesn't work great but at least I'm not chemical burned.

Can't wait til I'm in my 40's and 50's and the hair starts in on my chin!

I tried vaniqua but I found it doesn't work any better than those surgicreams you can buy in the store for a lot cheaper.

I have PCOS so that is why I have excess hair. Even with the right hormones, it still grows more than it should.

I have a little chicstache which is noticeable since I am dark haired, and I bleach it..It blends in perfectly with my skin and I only have to do it every 2-3 months. I am so scared to shave it or wax it..Don't want it to get worse.

I just shave mine... haha. I use my boyfriend's razor AND he knows it and doesn't really care or make any comments about it, mostly because he knows I'll give him a knuckle sandwich . The thing I had always heard about shaving is that it only APPEARS thicker, because you're cutting the hair off at it's normal width, whereas when hair naturally grows in, the ends become tapered off and come to a smaller point. I'm afraid of getting it waxed because a) I'm a chicken and b) I heard that you can have broken blood vessels and red skin for a few days afterwards, which to me would be way more obvious and noticeable than the hair that I started with. Who knows? Haha. Hopefully as I lose weight and my PCOS improves, it'll be less of an issue.
