bought one of the 'Slimcados' in the store and tried it this morning. i'ts about 2x the size of a normal avocado. But it suppossedly has 1/3 the fat of normal avocado? this i couldn't understand b/c the fat in avocado isn't the kind that most folks need to reduce.
OMG - stuff like that makes me just over the top annoyed.

I'd never heard of a "slimcado" until now and I'm just ... argh, rant, growl.

So now people are being told that they need "low fat" natural food? Which of course just reinforces the "all fat is bad" mantra and convinces people more than artificial food is better than what nature has developed for us over centuries.

*mumble* *mutter* *grumble* *snarl*

haha!

I did a little digging around and from what i've read, many people think that they are genetically engineered, which was my concern when i first saw them, but i may be that they are a different variety that are naturally lower in fat than the smaller californian variety.

Apparently the name 'SlimCado' was a marketing gimmick for the health conscious, that seems to be making many people wary of it. It just sounds like something contrived in a lab!

But from what I've read, the Florida and mexican varieties are naturally bigger and higher in water/ lower in fat than the Hass and other californian varieties.

here's a humorous take:

All in all, it's ironic cuz many people including myself are including avocados for their monounsaturated fats, and here comes the slimcado saying it has significantly LESS of this good stuff....

A man after my own heart:
Quote:
So by removing half of the fat from the avacado, scientists are actually taking a perfectly good food and making it worse for you.

It’s the equivalent of genetically-altering oranges to remove the Vitamin C. (Don’t get any ideas, slimcado makers.)
*sheesh*

Thanks for the links!

Wow, I had to Google Slimcado, as I had never heard of that either, and couldn't quite imagine how that would work.

Funny review of Slimcados
