Default I love Subway

Subway is one of the few "fast food" joints that I eat at and the one right down the street has made a few healthy changes that I love even more! They started carrying spinach, so now I can have that instead of iceberg lettuce and they also split up their oil and vinegar (instead of having them already mixed in the same bottle) so now I can get just vinegar (my very favorite sandwich topping) without the fatty oil!! YEAH

Tonight I had the most delicious sandwich- a 6 inch ham with spinach, tomato, green peppers, onions, cucumbers, salt & pepper and vinegar, soooooooo delicious!

Any other Subway lovers out there?
Where else do you pick up healthier fast food?

MMMMM I LOVE SUBWAY TOO! I think I might get a Subway sub today... YUMMMMM!!

I love the chicken teriyaki with sweet onion sauce, with lettuce, tomato, green peppers, onions, cucumbers, salt & pepper, and black olives.

Sometimes, I also go with the veggie delite. I used to loooove the Southwest sauce (I still do), but then I found out how much fat it had. I still get it sometimes, though.

Subway is my favorite fast food. (Normally I just get a chicken sandwich if I'm eating fast food and theirs are so much better.)

I get a 6 inch Oven Roasted Chicken on wheat. As for toppings: lettuce, cucumber, green pepper, sweet pepper, and onions. I also am a big fan of vinger without the oil. Sometimes if I am having a lower calorie day I will add chesse to the sandwich.

Subways is a very respectable choice for a fast food lunch, I think. Or it can be, if you make wise choices. At least the wise options are there!

There are healty options at other fast food places, certainly. The Asian Chicken salad a McDonalds isn't bad at all. A couple of regular tacos at taco bell clocks in at just over 300 calories, less if you order them Fresco style. If you know in advance that you are going to a certain place, look up their nutritionals online first so you have a plan already in place.

I don't really like Subway's bread but I do think they have some good options, especially their salads.

There is a local place in the DC area called Potbelly where you can order their sandwiches "skinny". They take out some of the bread and you can order your sandwich how you like it.

I like eating at Baja Fresh and eating half a burrito. I also like Chipotle salads. In general, I choose a place with half decent options and use portion control.

I quite like Subway, but I what I really want to know is how they manage to remove all the calories from their bread! I don't understand how a giant 6" roast beef sandwich can have only 280 cals when it seems as though the bread alone should have more than that.

Panera is one of my favorite lunch spots. I love some of their salads, and you can get a side of whole grain bread (my downfall) or an apple!

AND, free coffee refills.

I often grade papers there!

I love Potbelly! We don't have them here in CA, but they have them in Chicago where my parents live. There is one in the Southwest terminal of Midway airport and I always plan on a Potbelly sandwich for my return flight. I love the "skinny" option but I do wish they'd be more accurate about how many calories it reduces the sandwich by. There is no way it reduces the calories in every sandwich by one-third. It seems to me that the reduction in calories would be the same number for every sandwich.

We do have Panera here in CA and I love them as well, but they are a little high in calories. I generally only eat half a sandwich and save half for later and even that can sometimes be a challenge to work into my calorie limit. I wish they would break out the nutritional info for the sandwich components (e.g., provide separate info on mayo, cheese, bread, etc.) the way Subway does.

In terms of providing nutritional info Subway is the tops and I also do like their sandwiches. They are definitely a staple for me when traveling.

I think one of the reasons Subway bread is so low in calories is because it's very airy/fluffy, not dense bread at all like most sliced breads or other restaurants.

Barbara -- I know what you mean about Panera sandwiches. I avoid them and just stick to salads usually. My new fave salad is the one with chicken, strawberries (and other fruit) and pecans with lowfat poppyseed dressing. I ask for dressing on the side and it's actually a pretty healthy option! Oh, and the side of multigrain baguette!

I loooooooove Subway.

I've told them they need to bottle and sell that fat-free sweet onion sauce. It's the best and I get it on every sub I order from them. My faves are the sweet onion chicken teriyaki and the club. No cheese, ever, just the meat and lots of veggies and the sweet onion sauce.

I love Subway, I eat it about four times a week. I almost always get the oven roasted chicken breast with spinach, black olives, jalepenos, onion, banana peppers, and spicy mustard. Its so good! I usually get pepper jack cheese but I am going to start cutting it out. I think with all the spice from the peppers, onion, mustard and jalepenos, I probably won't even miss the cheese. But my thighs will!

According to their nutrition information, a 6" wheat bun from Subway has 200 calories.

That's about right, I imagine. I buy sub buns from the store that are sometimes a little more or a little less than that, I guess it depends on the ingredients used.
