I am new to this...I bought Chalean Extreme this summer. I used it for awhile but stopped when I went back to work. I want to get started again with the new year and thought this site would help me stay motivated. When I was doing the program, I loved it! Hope to stay motivated this time.

Question

I just ordered CLX and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I have one concern. I am way overweight - 237lbs. I sporadically worked out in 2009 doing cardio and Zumba classes but never saw any significant weight loss plus or minus 10 lbs over the course of the whole year ( My eating was not in check all the time.) I was told and after much research learned that weight lifting is the key. I've never done much lifting which brought me to Chalene's videos. I cancelled my expensive gym membership, purchased these videos, and will purchase my weights this week. However, i am worried that I may be too overweight to begin this type of workout or to see any results from it. Should I have gone with Turbo Jam and then progressed to CLX? I am so pumped about doing something other than cardio - I hope I can jump right into CLX and incorportate some kind of cardio. Your thoughts? Just really looking for some direction, inspiration...assurance.

Thanks!:D

Update: Traced my package this morning and it is out for delivery!!! UPS never comes in our neighborhood until 5pm or later but today is the day!!! Excited. I'm going to give this my all.

giddybridetobe-looks like you are off to a great start-enjoy!!

sci-yes this is one of the best programs that I've ever done, don't get me wrong, Love TurboJam, but weight lifting heavy is the key, I have found on my rest days, I do Cardio Party 1,2 or 3, and I up the intensity, found that also gives me a great sweaty time also. sci, are you thinking of starting this program, or just visiting? Either way hope you stop by often.

Quick question-I'm on the 1st week of Lean, and after completing 4wks on both the Burn and Push, without having any major pains or hurts, all of a sudden, my left leg, upper thigh is cramping up so bad, wakes me from a sound sleep, I do all the proper warm up/cool down, even spent a bit of extra time with those runner lunges on my left side. All day today I can feel the muscle in my upper thigh is so tight, I hope that pain doesn't come back, that was aweful, I can remember when I started power walking, at my higher weight, I would get the same muscle spasms, now that I'm lighter and alot more fit, I thought those spasms were over. One other thing, I also have really bad spider veins. I do not want to give up CLX, it's something that I really do love and look forward to doing everyday. I plan to make a dr appt, after Christmas/New Year, but I was wondering if anyone had this problem, or might have some advice. Thanks-so glad it's Finally Friday-Have a great one everyone

Hello
That awful pain happen to me also and i found out it was one of the days i was drinking less of my water. i was a bit dihadrated and that can happen then.

A very Happy Yes to your question. You will see amazing results with this program. I do follow the program, as mapped out, but on "rest days" I add TJ Cardio Party. Make sure you get in your water, and making good food choices will help you all the more. Good Luck and Enjoy CLX, "Time to Get Extreme"

bablou00 01-04-2010 01:54 AM

Hey everyone just checking in on how everyone is doing with Chalean. I have one more week of the Push phase but might do 5wks like I did with Burn. The only reason is becasue it will be TOM the last wk and I want my measurements to be as accurate as I can get them. Plus one more wk wont kill me as I really like the Push phase. I didnt expect to see a lot of progress as far as wt loss during this phase but if Im right on track I might be around a 3-4lb loss. Thats good for me as I get down this low its usually harder for me to lose weight. I am however excited to change it up and see what Lean phase brings. Ive tried to talk a lot of my friends into trying it but no one is taking me serious. They see my progress and loss but everyone is afraid of bulking up!!! Its not happening!!! Well enough ramble...Hope everyone had a great New Year!!!

Hey, I just joined this community. I'm currently about halfway through the Insanity program and I've got Chalean Extreme queued up for when I'm done. What have been your results so far?

LovelyComplex 01-04-2010 01:34 PM

Hello, everyone. :)

I will be getting ChaLEAN Extreme for my birthday, but currently don't have (and can't afford) adjustable weights. Could anyone recommend a good set of resistance bands that I can use with the program?

Thanks! :D

 hi guys, good to be back!

well, my CLX exercises have been pretty spotty the past 3 weeks, but I've wrapped up Lean and now I'm going to start again with Burn. It feels so good to be back! I can tell I've lost a little muscle definition, but thankfully not as much as I had thought. :lifter: I'll be back up to scratch in no time.

Chalean Extreme

Hello Everyone,

I just ordered Chalean Extreme today. I bought the adjustable dumbbells, the Powerblocks brand for $150 (yikes ) at my local fitness store. Can not wait to start the program.

ginnym1981 01-06-2010 05:36 PM

Hi!
Another Newbie here! :cb:
I ordered my ChaLean last night through Amazon and I would like to join the group to keep me going....I go to school fulltime, work about 32 hours a week and have a 9 year old son so it's going to be a real challenge to keep up!
I'm going to Hawaii in June as well as having my 10 year Highschool reunion so I would really like to lose 10-15lbs and tone up! :strong:

Right now I'm struggling with counting calories and finding the time to cook but I know its important and will become second nature once I form the habbit.

How many calories are you all eating for these kind of workouts? :chin:

Right now I try to consume 1200-1500 cals per day. Is this too low for these workouts? I don't want my body to go into starvation mode.

Anyways, great work on everyone keeping up with their workouts! I hope to be the shawdow image of ALL of you! :sunny:

Institches21 01-07-2010 01:20 AM

Hi Everyone: Welcome to all that are new

Things are going well, on wk4/d2 lean phase, I find this phase tough, but a good tough, it really works 2 muscle groups at the same time, I really do feel stronger, and enjoy this program so much. Well need to get some sleep see you all soon-

EveLHaelf 01-07-2010 09:44 PM

I did push circuit 1 today! I really love this program and how strong I have become. It's really helped my running as well. Since I started clx my 5k run time has gone down by almost 4 minutes!

The only problem I had was the squats. They were too easy on my legs but waaaay harsh on my arms. They could barely hold 30 pounds while my legs were begging for more!

Skyra 01-08-2010 12:03 AM

Eve -- I get the same thing with the squats. My shoulders will be absolutely dying but my legs are still fresh by the end, even when I have 25 lb. in each hand. 25 lb. are the heaviest I have, though, so I just make do with that. If nothing else at least it's strengthening my arms.

Ginny -- I have no idea what anybody else does, but I aim for 1500 calories a day. Realistically, though, I usually eat around 1800, because after my Chalean workouts, I get really hungry and feel exhausted if I don't I eat something. I make my after-workout food lean protein whenever possible. Maybe 1800 calories is too much -- I'm losing weight really slowly (though the muscle looks great!). But at the moment I can't eat less than 1800 without feeling like I'm starving.

Congrats on ordering the program...I try to convince everyone I know to get on the bandwagon I have seen some awesome results. And it fits great into schedule because I work nights so I do it right before I go into work.
I started to use thedailyplate.com when I first started doing Chalean. I couldnt follow her meal plan so I decided to just start tracking my meals and cut out some things that I was gorging on. I get anywhere between 1300-1900 depending on what Im doing that day. I have my goal set to losing 1.5lb a wk with thedailyplate but its been more like 1.2 or just 1 however this pass wk I lost 2. Good luck and feel free to ask questions

Wanderland 01-08-2010 04:15 PM

Hey all,
I'm doing CLX and finishing up the first week today. My official weigh in days are sundays.

Institches21 01-09-2010 01:45 AM

Wanderland-Welcome and glad you will be joining us. Good Luck and Enjoy!!

Hi to All-just popping by, hope all is well.

I'm actually finishing up LeanPhase on Sunday, I know I gained a few lbs. over the holidays hope Sunday shows a loss, but if not, I know I've atleast lost a few inches since last month, clothes fit so much better!!

Well have a Great Weekend Everyone!

bablou00 01-10-2010 03:50 PM

Ok here are my measurements after finishing Push phase. I'm going list first measurements, after burn and last is now (after push)

Waist: 29/28/26.5
Hips: 37.5/36/35.5
Abductors: 38.4/37.5/37.4
Chest: 33.3/32.5/32
Right arm: 11.5/11/10.7
Left arm: 11/10.7/10.7
Right thigh: 23.5/22.7/21.7
Left thigh: 23/22/21
Weight 148/145/139
Bodyfat: 22.7%/20.9%/19.0%
I've lost 9lbs and 12inches in 60days

Overall I'm excited about this program and it has done some wonders to my body in 60 days. I have 30 more to go and have heard nothing but good things about this next phase. I might even reach my goal but if not I'm happy I've lost this much so far. I plan on doing lean for life rt after then starting another round in March!

Could you let me know what type of meals you eat to stay on track? If you can that is? ;)

Wow! WTG! Such great results! Good job sticking with the program. I have never completed a workout program like this but reading results like this really motivate me!

Beachbody notified me that my items were shipped and should arrive this Thursday! YAY! I'm gonna play around with them this weekend but start officially on Monday.
I gotta figure out my weight scenerio....I have those adjustable ones from the Firm but they don't say how much they are so I'm probably going to have to buy more.

Does anyone think I'll need heavier than 25lbs?
I was debating on some adjustable weights that go up to 25lbs.
I have a weak upper body, can't do a single pushup or pullup.
My lower body is my powerhouse when I'm in shape but right now I'm not. lol

Thoughts?

It's hard to say. I have the Bowflex Select Tech weights and they go up to 52.5 lbs, which I'm sure I'll never get up to. But I'm using 25 lbs for squats and some lunges right now and I hope to be able to do more. I don't think I could use 25 for my upper body, except for maybe a chest press or rows (someday). You can probably get very far with weights that go up to 25 lbs, especially for your upper body.

ginnym1981 01-11-2010 10:03 PM

Thanks Tiffany!!
The squats and lunges are what I'm worried about.....I may ask the DF if he wants to go dutch on some heavier ones. He was thinking about getting the P90X workouts so he may be up for it. Unfortunately, being a student I don't have much $$ to put towards them right now and I don't want to have to put the program on hold with Hawaii coming up in June.

:)

bablou00 01-12-2010 12:09 AM

Thanks Cluciano!! I was shocked too since I know I already put on muscle quickly so I didnt expect to lose much weight but gain muscle mass. Well I lost some and more..lol!! I track my meals on a daily with thedailyplate.com. At first (like during Burn) I didnt track on the wknds because of travel and just doing too much (eating out and drinking:o) During the Push phase I started to track wknds, watched the sodium and stopped the occasional drinking. I think the sodium check is whats helping.
I work nights at the hospital so I make a lot of my own meals and pack snacks. I make chili, brown rice, chicken, eat a lot of tuna, I juice my veggies but eat salads almost every other day. I eat every 3hrs if I can. I only drink water, tea and occasional orange juice. I will have a cheat day thats not planned once or twice a wk. When I say not planned is that I plan to eat healthy that day but if we order out here at work I will I just eat half or get something semi healthy that will fit in my calorie intake for the day. Then I will watch what I eat the rest of the wk. If you have any more questions please ask!!!

Ginnym: Thanks:carrot: This is the first video that Ive every been able to follow and get excited about. I normally just run or workout at that gym but I luv being able to do this at home. I use the select tech weights too and they go up to 52lbs. The most I ever used was 30lbs on squats. Check walmart or target I think they have some that go up to 25lbs that should be perfect for you.

ginnym1981 01-12-2010 11:21 PM

Okay so my DVDs just arrived but I didn't have any luck finding any weights at Walmart or a few other sports stores we have around here.

Sooooo, I just ordered some Power Block adjustable weights 5lbs-45lbs.
My hands are shaking from spending so much money so I REALLY hope I stick to this program. If not, at least I know I can sell them and get the majority of my money back.

I'm going to start reading the books and maybe view some of the workouts, grocery shop and meal plan while I'm waiting for the weights to arrive. I ordered through Amazon, suppose to be 5-9 business days. Eek!

ginnym1981 01-13-2010 05:38 PM

ANOTHER QUESTION!!!! haha

So I got my package last night and I was playing with the body fat capilar thing.....whats the best way to be sure that I'm measuring correctly?
(I'm worried I'll "pinch" more skin or less skin on my 30, 60, 90 day results)

Should I bust out a ruler and measure in a 1/4 of an inch each time or something? haha
What works best for you to ensure you are being as accuarate as possible?

Oh, ALSO, I worked my program so that I will have Sundays and Fridays as my "rest" days.....do you think I should start officially this Saturday (I only have 5lb weights) or just wait until next Saturday to start with my Power Blocks?

Hello there ....i found out about the calipar that you have to find your hip bone place your middle finder dirrectly on top of your hip bone and then pinch. and do that about 3 times the same exact way to see how close you get take the middle number as the one to start with.
I my self took my mesurements with a tape. and its just more rewarding. then the scale or anything else.

JessiHarri 01-14-2010 10:29 AM

Stupid Question: When you say adjustable weights up to 25lbs, does that mean each weight needs to weigh up to 25 or 25 combined? I just ordered CLX and haven't been weight shopping but will probably check Wallys tomorrow and see how much they are. Also does anyone just use the resistance bands? Seems like they'd be alot cheaper! TIA

ginnym1981 01-14-2010 08:19 PM

Um oh my goodness! I just did the Burn Intervals with the band and could only do like half the DVD! I took many breaks but I'm going to continue trying daily so I can get my endurance up before I officially start.

According to my HRM, I burned 378 cals for what I did do so that wasn't too bad. I imagine it'll be close to 600 cals once I can do all of it.
VERY GOOD WORKOUT!

They should go up to 25lbs EACH so a total of 50lbs between the two of them.
I went ahead and got the Power Blocks on Amazon that go up to 45lbs each mainly for leg exercises and because my fiancee is doing it also

so far i eat pretty similar to you,
as far as the tuna do you eat it on top of salads or sandwich?
and do you take any multivitamins or supplements.

I have the DVD's, but not the guides or anything. I found a workout calendar online, but I don't know how to change resistance and when. I got a set of three resistance bands, plan to use those, but I can't find anything about when I'm supposed to start using the higher resistance band or anything. Help?

I'm pretty sure you just listen to your body. In one of the videos she tells you to use a lighter weight but in the Push Phase I know your suppose to lift until failure.

Hope that helps!

I did the first workout, and it makes sense now. She tells you which weights to use before each workout. It's hard with the bands though, because I have to pause it to make sure I have the band right before I start doing the workout. Then I have to hop around to un-pause it. It's quite hilarious, actually. :)

I think I'm going to like this. I can't get totally into it until I finish Insanity, but I'm just going to do some of the workouts to get the hang of it in the meantime.

I want to be LEAN!

I'm so glad I found this forum, it's so helpful to talk to other people who are doing the same things as me :carrot:

I'm starting a blog if anyone wants to follow it. I'm officially starting this Saturday, the 23rd so that my rest days can be on Sundays and Fridays.

It should be in my signature. I'll try to update here as well. Good luck everyone! :carrot:

I'm starting my rotations today! Day 1 and soooo excited! :D Chalene told me (via Facebook) that the best results are when you combine TJ and CLX!! I'm only going to do ChaLEAN this first week, but next week I'll add up some TJ cardios on the routines. Maybe 3x a week.

Let's see how that goes. In a couple of hours I will take my measurements, photos and log my reps for the 1st week. :)
