In my class they play a big variety of songs. I’m not sure how many they made up on their own and how many they learned in training. We actually only do the songs on your DVD occasionally, I believe. We have songs to Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy, Milkshake, London Bridge (Fergie), some 50’s or 60’s music, some other Latin sounding songs….a HUGE variety! Also, the instructors are usually licensed instructors which means they have gone to Zumba training so they would use the same steps that are used on your DVD.
My instructor makes up names to the steps and calls several steps the same name. There are 2 steps she calls calypso, and I have trouble with one of those. I also struggle with the Samba. I walk in place or tap my toe out to the front. I don’t know if you are doing this on carpet or a hard surface, but on the advice of my instructor, I recently purchased new shoes. My instructor calls them Zumba shoes but they are also called aerobic or dance shoes, I think

. Whatever they are called they have a pivot point (circle area of tread) on the ball of the foot and the tread on the rest of the shoe isn’t as heavy as say a running shoe would be. It has helped me move better on the hard wood floor that we use. Just something to think about.
I have been doing this for almost a year and every once in a while something clicks and I am able to do a step that I could never do correctly before. Just hang in there and enjoy!!
