TurboMammoth: I have an adult class nearby and it's a blast! My goal is to start competing AAU Ladies Intermediate Optional division! I'm not terribly good, but it's a great workout regardless!

TheManekiNeko: Oh wow, that is just horrible :( I'm so sorry! It's too bad she didn't give you a real reason for breaking up with you... anything, like, "I'm too weak to resist temptation while you're gone and I suck" which is probably the truth. You certainly deserve better!! Someone else I know was in a similar situation not long ago having just bought a plane ticket to visit someone who dumped her. She paid the fee to have it changed and went to visit friends and family instead! Maybe you can use this as an excuse to visit someone else you always want to visit, or go somewhere you've always wanted to go.

Joss- holy crap....hatchet a$$. I want one, but I definitely think my a$$ is my off button, too! LOLOL

Krampus- my kids love, love, love those egg sandwiches. We call them breakfast sandwiches, and they are amazed that I can make one as good as Starbucks. What an accomplishment, right?

Turbo- sorry about the bad weekend. We all have those days! Mine was yesterday. I think I consumed my body weight in carbs. I usually don't stress eat, but once the balance of sanity tips, all freaking **** breaks loose! I had hubby's FAVE dinner all ready, cooking ribs since befor noon, homemade bread ready to roll, corn cobs husked and in the lot, waiting to heat up. I had to prepare most of it in advance, because I needed to take the dogs to the vet at four, and then soccer arctics at six. My plan was to come home and eat in between. Lord only know why I thought that would work...of course the vet ran way over, and since I had two kids and two dogs, by the end I was experiencing severe facial tics and Cruelle DeVille voice changes. J/k so we got home and had fifteen minutes to eat and change, the food wasnt done, because it needed thirty more minutes. So the kids had sandwiches and I snagged a leftover bagel from Panera. Uck!

All three of our puppies have new homes now! Phew. It was a wild week getting them off and getting back to just three doggies. The interior renovation is draining my life like the plague, but the drywall, plaster and paint are done. Still need to tile the floors and trim everything out. Still not working out at the gym. It honestly scares me now, and I can't afford the gamble of whether I will get a migraine and be out for several days. Just trying to be good with my diet and stay within my safe weight range. About to head to my neuro appt. now to talk about the whole working out conundrum. Happy to be mostly migraine free, but also ready to get back to normal. 125 this morning, which made my day!

TurboMammoth 09-20-2012 11:00 AM

TheManeki : I think coming here to vent a bit was a good thing to do instead of turning to food. I'm so sorry to hear about all of this :( Break ups are usually pretty sh*tty situation when you are able to deal with that face to face, but when you are in a different country? Jeeeze. Keep your head up and let us know if we can do anything for you! *hugs*

kakers : oh god, competition and everthing! that sounds awesome! and what a trigger to really get into it and push yourself... awesome!!

Chickie : Glad to see you back here, hot mama! your days sound pretty INSANE. I hope you appointment with the neuro will get to something helpful!

Still 136.4 this morning after some pasta last night. I did not poop yesterday though and just went for a meeting with my toilet so I'll see where I end up tomorrow :P

I ended up going out there and actually riding my bike when I got home while the boyfriend was out to get a beer with friend and I managed to bike 15k in the freaking wind, making me slower than usual with an average of a poor 19.9 km/hour.. usually I ride around 22-23 km/hour. Anyway, it's still a work out!

I've been working my *ss off to pull out good and different meal through the last months, but for tonight, I just wanted to get something quick after our run. The boyfriend bought some really ww bread on monday, so I suggested some grilled cheese. It was the strongest YESSSSSS!! reaction I've had when I suggested a meal for the past month. So rewarding :D

Have a good day feathers!

Hey everyone :)

Hope you all remember me, I think I know most of you.

I took the past couple of months off since I was dealing with some food/body image issues but I'm feeling better and trying to focus on being fit. Weight lifting and eating in moderation is my goal.

I've started grad school so I'm pretty busy but I'm going try and come on here as often as I can. You are all really motivating!! Congrats on staying happy and fit :)

I am irritated by how hungry I am today. It's not a mental "I'm feeling snacky" kind of hungry... it's a tummy rumbling, lightheaded, "I need to eat NOW" kind of hungry. (LOL, don't worry, I'm appeasing the beast and eating, but at this rate I'm going to end up overeating today). I have no idea why this is... normally I don't have those stomach grumbles going on.

I started reading "The End of Overeating" yesterday, as a lot of people have mentioned how much they enjoyed it. I am a big reader, and I'm always trying to look out for new information and new perspectives when it comes to health and fitness. So far, it is pretty interesting but I'm only 7 chapters into it.
I try not to read too much into any one thing and preach it as gospel, but I think having an open mind and a thirst for knowledge will only help me to become a better trainer and nutritionist in the future.

I did something weird to my foot on Tuesday and it's not happy with me. The top of my foot is a bit inflamed and swollen, but it's not painful really. I've decided not to run sprints for a few days and let it calm down, as well as icing it at night and taking an anti-inflammatory during the day. It seems to be helping. So, because of that, today I just did 60 minutes of intervals on the stair climber and then 20 minutes on the elliptical. Still burned about 670 calories according to the machines (so less than than in actuality) -- stupid foot be damned! :)

Hmm, I would blame my hunger on that but I've been rumbly since I woke up... probably not related.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TheManekiNeko - I'm so so sorry that you are dealing with that kind of heartbreak and disappointment right now. How are you doing dealing with those urges to comfort eat?

Have you decided what to do about your plane ticket?

Getting news like that feels like a punch in the gut, especially when it comes seemingly out of nowhere. I know that it sounds trite to say that it's probably for the best, but it is. In the long run, you need to know that the person you choose is going to be there for you through thick or thin. Marilyn Monroe once said, “I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” -- She was smarter than she gets credit for.
I know it's hard to see it now, but you'll get through this and come out stronger on the other side of it. For now, take care of your heart and do not add to your sorrows by neglecting to take care of your body as well.

Turbo - Mmmm, grilled cheese... *drool* was it fancy grilled cheese with extra stuff in it, or was it straight up bread/cheese/bread with no frills. I don't know if I can do grilled cheese anymore! I certainly can't do milk or ice cream. :(

You and Leila were making me positively nutty with all your jam/apple crumble/grilled cheese with apples talk. I had to stop reading when talks of toffee bars got brought up.

LOL, I hope the toilet meeting yeilds positive results for you. :)

Oh, random... so this morning (as with many mornings) I was driving to the gym when the sudden 'urge' struck me. Within moments it was like, if I didn't get there and use the restroom ASAP I was going to have a rather embarassing situation to deal with. This is just how I am, every single time! I don't have to go and then BAM... I gotta go!
Is anyone else like this? I don't understand people who are like "Meh, I think I'll go take care of business" and then sit in the restroom for an hour and read a book. I have to go immediately and I'm out in a split second.
Hahaha, that was probably WAAAAY TMI, but I'm curious.

Chickie - Wow, that does sound like a lot going on... no wonder you're feeling a bit out of sorts! You mentioned grabbing a bagel instead of dinner, but you also said you ate your bodyweight in carbs yesterday. Did you mean the bagel, or were you sort of eating badly all day?

Regardless, you still had a good WI this morning, so it must not have been too bad!

Good luck at your appointment today. Hopefully the neurologist can fill you in on the reasons you've been having issues working out, and do something to put your mind at ease. (hahaha, get it? Mind at ease? Neurologist? I crack myself up!)

haha I'm glad you liked my Hubby's little hatchet @$$ rant. :) He's so funny sometimes, and he writes like he speaks and visa versa.

Kakers - It sounds like you're doing just fine getting back into the swing of things and getting those pounds off. A nice slow and steady loss is definitely the way to go!

Leila - Butterscotch anything, hard caramels and ESPECIALLY english toffee/butter toffee call my name like almost no other. It's tempting for sure!

I haven't actually gotten tested for lactose intolerance yet, but it's pretty obvious from my own little experiments I've been conducting. I'm not saying I'll never have dairy again, but I think I just need to be careful with it. Besides, my go-to when I fall way off plan is ice cream, so perhaps this will help me in that regard!

How is your head after your apple injury?

And no, you don't sound crazy at all. Talking about those inner struggles helps us all to see just how NORMAL we really are!

krampus 09-20-2012 12:05 PM

Hi everyone,

Since we love to talk about poop I should say I had a nice poop this morning and I dropped some weight, 124.2 this morning. I had a somewhat weak lifting session at the gym since (A) I ate at a deficit the past 2 days and (B) pooping was exhausting, but I managed to increase my bent over dumbbell row weights and my weak overhead barbell press is getting stronger!

I was making my lunch this morning (chicken and hard boiled eggs on colorful salad) and my roommate was beside herself at how healthy it looked. I guess it really is when you think about it - but this is my "normal" and I genuinely enjoy it!!!

ChickieChicks Mmm breakfast sandwiches are always good. I think the English muffin is what makes it automatically breakfast. Saw you've dropped a couple lbs in water weight on the weigh-in thread - nice!!!

TurboMammoth Grilled cheese is ALWAYS a good idea. It's super windy up there eh? I am itching to go to Quebec again, I seem to be getting sick of America really fast.

JossFit I've been hungry lately too. Do you think you're feeling extra empty after your stomach issues? That happens sometimes. Also it's getting colder, blahblah. I should really read more nutrition books (i.e. read any at all) - do you find they are interesting or too "common sense" to be interesting? For example, I know Kessler's famous for the TL;DR "Salt, fat and sugar combined = addictive = people overeat" theory, and that seems pretty logical/obvious to me, so I don't feel like I need to/should read the book. Maybe I'm missing out!

LisaTcan I'm glad to see you're here again! We missed you. I think lifting and eating in moderation can only result in good things. I've been the same weight for 3 months but it's really easy to keep up and I don't have to overthink food. It's very, very liberating.

TheManekiNeko Awww I can't believe she dumped you for the ex like that after you'd made travel arrangements. That's COLD, what a...well, I don't know her so I won't say anything too harsh. I hope you continue to find comfort in non-food arenas, big hugs and hope for the future! Spanish girls are hotter anyway :P

kakers You're stronger than me, counting alcohol calories/counting calories in general. I would always freak out when I realized I was going to go over my "limit" and it did my head in. What kind of gymnastics have you been working on in class? I've always wanted to do that, but I feel like at 25 I'm already too stiff to train my joints and muscles!

LeilaJey APPLES are so good, where I'm from is prime apple growing and harvesting territory and we have lots of NY-regional varieties. This year the predicted crop is like 10% of the usual yield and many orchards aren't even offering pick-your-own (a STAPLE in the Northeast USA, everyone goes apple picking in fall). Looks like you have crumble, applesauce and jam covered. What about baking apple pies as gifts to people? Or making apple butter?

TurboMammoth 09-20-2012 01:00 PM

Joss : It's gonna be FACY SH*T grilled cheese ;) It's even the boyfriend who suggested to add caramelized mushroom and onion. I think I'm going to go for a goat cheese grilled cheese, and let the boyfriend pick is own cheese to add!

You're not the only one with the ''when the toilet call''. This morning I was sitting at my office and I was like OKAY NOW! ... I hate to do that at work LOL

Lisa : Glad to see you back :) I hope this summer was good to you, putting order in body image and everything. You did pick up Ontario grad school (I remember that DC was considered for a while, no?)?

You and me both, Sister. Can I just go somewhere and be away from the election coverage for a while?!

No, that's my normal morning routine, oddly enough. I'm just a fast pooper! The weather might have something to do with it though... that is a good point. I'm actually wearing a pullover right now, which I don't normally do at work.

Yeah, it is pretty commonplace, but I'm not so interested in what his theories are (or other authors) as I am WHY he theorizes it. Its the references to all kinds of studies done and the science behind some of these observations that interests me. Plus, there are a lot of differences in even what would appear to be common ideas. For example; Kessler is stating that the brain is the reason for the addiction to the sugar/fat/salt combination, and sites a plethora of studies linked to animal behavior in that arena. Gary Taubes, on the other hand, theorizes that it is specifically insulin response that makes us crave fast digesting carbohydrates and that it's more than just a conditioned response that makes people overeat -- he says that overeating is a symptom of weight gain, and not the other way around.

On the surface it would appear that they are both saying that excessive sugar/carbs are bad (and they are) but the more you look into it they are saying it for very different reasons.

It might not interest everyone, but I find it fascinating.

Ooh, you can also make quick baked apples for dessert, or chop them up and add them to breakfast dishes (pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, yogurt) or salads. You can do about a bazillion things with them!

Oooh, I like fancy $hit! hahaha
Caramelized mushrooms and onions would be great with a nice mild cheese, like muenster. I think goat cheese is another fantastic pick... maybe with a bit of fresh greens on it too?

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to sprint to the restroom when it's that time!

TurboMammoth 09-20-2012 01:35 PM

Joss and Krampus : You are both welcome in Qc anytime you want! ;)

Joss : Hmmm I might add some fresh spinach in the mixt, now that you are talking about green! :D

Joss and Krampus : your conversation about the carbs/fat craving thing remembered me of a conversation I had with the boyfriend when we were on a run the other day. He was telling me about this article he red about the lobby that had been made in science for the past 30 years to condmened fat in the diet.

Most of the science magazines right now blame fat for the bad health of the society, but the thruth is that fat was never really LINKED to obesity... Like this review was pointing out that the big study that everyone based their theory on ''fat = obesity'' is SO SO SO SO biaised in so many ways. In fact, more and more groups are suggesting that high fat high protein diet would be better to prevent obesity and that the word high carbs high or high fructose corn syrop are actually much more worst than the actual fact. But people are not ready to face the theory so they just don't get published...

I'll ask the boyfriend for the review article and I'll come back with it later!! He says that it was one the most interesting nutrition article he ever red.

TurboMammoth 09-20-2012 01:40 PM

The boyfriend was online, yay!

I've read a lot of very similar articles, and definitely agree! I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but it's hard to argue that the allmighty dollar has a huge influence on what we eat as a nation;

(from the article)

2000 Well over $1 billion has been spent on trials focusing on lowering LDL cholesterol. Little or no money in comparison has been spent researching the obvious dangers of added sugars and excess highly processed omega-6 industrial seed oils.

TurboMammoth 09-20-2012 03:11 PM

Okay, I was really trying to figure out why I was feeling ''EAT ALL THE FOOD IN THE WORLD''. I got my answer : I was PMS, TOM showed up 5 days in advance this afternoon.

I was praying to be TOM free for the half-marathon. BUUUUUMMER :D

Well now if you can just figure out why I feel like that... I'm RAVENOUS. Physically hurting, want to eat my face off, white-knuckled, considered eating all the chocolate treats and chips out of the snack bar...

ChickieChicks 09-20-2012 07:30 PM

Turbo- I like fancy sh!t, too. That sounds delectable! I love grilled cheese with ham. Technically its hot ham and cheese, but whatever! Grilled bread, cheese and anything else is always yum. Your bf is famous now! Lol :-) The few days before TOM, I am like a ravenous wildebeest. Nothing can stop me. Because my periods are not monthly, it has become my signal that TOM is coming. But since I like to mess with my head, I always obsess and worry if it isn't TOM, yet Im still eating like their is an impending apocalypse...lol.

Krampus- yep...stupid water weight. And yet...yesterday really sucked for me. Why on earth would my weight look good today. Mind boggling. Sigh.

Joss- you still did all that with a hurt foot? Holy sheist. If I worked out for 80 minutes...ever...I'd been stoked. ;-) I had this weird thing with my knee last year, and it would only hurt when I ran, specifically as I extended my leg mid-stride. Didn't hurt to do any other exercise! It finally just resolved itself after I stopped running for a few weeks. I really, really hate true hunger. That sounds dumb, but like yu are saying when you know you NEED to eat, but it's not matching up with your calories or whatever. Obviously i eat, but I always feel pressured by my own body! Lol btw, I ate 1.5 bagels, oatmeal, corn on the cob, a Panera quiche, several coffees, etc. it wasn't a huge calorie hit day, but almost no protein. Blah!

My appointment went well. I am trying a new dissolvable medicine combined with ibuprofen pre-workout. I ran a 5k indoors while chatting with a friend and I am still alive! Small headache, but nothing that is going to f$?& me tomorrow. Woo hoo! Crossing my fingers and toes that it isn't a fluke. I'm going to my Friday ritual Zumba tomorrow for the first time in forever. :-D
