Any feathers interested in an accountability thread?

Hey everyone,

I'm having a hard time sticking to my calorie limit, I seem to have lost my motivation. I've been maintaining for about 6 weeks now and I'm 10 lbs away from my goal. Any one interested in posting how your diet goes each day for a while?

armygirl808 01-15-2012 04:22 PM

Yes, I am!

LisaTcan 01-15-2012 07:39 PM

Yay! I was beginning to worry I might not get any takers! What's your diet/ exercise plan armygirl?

Tuca125 01-16-2012 12:37 AM

I will try.... let see how it goes.

srmb60 01-16-2012 06:24 AM

Sure! I apparently put a shreeching halt to the "getting out of the 140's" thread.

Today I will either walk outside (it's cold here) or get on the elliptical. And mind my eating of course. Oh I have a couple of DWTS dvd's too but I'm such a klutz!

LisaTcan 01-16-2012 09:59 AM

Welcome wfonseca3017 and srmb60 :)
Ok, so my plan is to stick to 1200-1350 calories a day...I'm not exercising because I had some injuries over the holidays. I've been stuck 10lbs a way from my goal for a long time now. I'll report back to night and tell you all how I do!

PixieChix 01-16-2012 10:43 AM

Hi all. I'd love an accountability thread! My goal is to count calories and stick to about 1200 per day. My other goal is to not eat any of the goodies left in the office kitchen. And I try to work out 3-4 times a week.

LisaTcan 01-16-2012 02:15 PM

It's so hard to stick to to 1200 calories a day! Here's my day so far:

B =rye toast, rice cake, 2 tbls natural peanut butter, 1/2 cup oj, black coffee
400 cal
L= falafel salad (made at home) 1/2 a chocolate bar
550 cal

So I'm already at 950 even though I've had a pretty healthy day (well except for the chocolate). I'm aiming for an apple, a kashi granola bar and a tea at school which should be about 300 calories and bring me to 1200.

ange82much 01-16-2012 05:24 PM

Hi - can i join? Have just got back from 4 weeks on holiday where i didn't watch my diet at all (which was planned), so today is the first day back to discipline and i could do with some accountability for a week or so whilst i get back to a good routine!

I don't calorie count, i just aim to eat small healthy portions, which i judge the healthiness of in a random unscientific way!! Basically at the end of the day i give myself a rating of one of the following for a combination of calorie intake and exercise (based on my knowledge of my own body!):

"good" = i would lose weight if did this every day
"average" = i would maintain weight if i did this every day
"bad" = i would gain weight if i did this every day

well, it works for me! So my aim in this thread is to avoid any "bad" days in the next week, and make sure that i have more "good" days than "average" days.

I'm not in a huge hurry to lose my Christmas weight as i'm still in target range, but i want to make sure that i get back in to good habits and that the scales either stay steady or ideally start to drop a bit back to my lower-goal weight!

Thanks for starting the thread Lisa!

Will check in tomorrow and tell you all how Day 1 goes.....

armygirl808 01-16-2012 06:12 PM

I'm planning on just eating healthier and trying to aim for around 1400 calories a day. As for exercise I am training for a half marathon and doing P90X. I should actually start counting my calories as that would probably help quite a bit.

Have you considered constructing your nutrition of whole foods only? Meaning fresh fruits, veggies, produce, eggs, unprocessed goods.

Example:

B- 4 egg whites (70) + 1 cup spinach + 1/2 large grapefruit (40) + black coffee

L- huge garden salad with fresh raw veggies (80)+ 1T evoo (120) + 1T vinegar + 3 oz grilled chicken (100) + 1cup homemade veggie soup + iced tea

D- 4oz baked white fish (150) + 1 c steamed broccoli + baked sweet potato (100) + medium apple (100) + hot tea

Snack- huge smoothie (could split into 1/2 after lunch and 1/2 after dinner)= 1c pumpkin + 1c unsweetened vanilla almond milk + 1 small frozen banana + stevia + pumpkin pie spice + 1T natural peanut butter + 1cup ice (320)

That's a lot for around 1200 calories (and I rounded up) . :)
I find it helpful to aim for 10 servings fruits/veggies per day.

I really like this idea. :)

PixieChix 01-17-2012 10:41 AM

Hi all. Well, I messed up at dinner last night. We made chili and I told myself I wouldn't have the cheese and sour cream on top like I usually do. I totally caved. And had a glass of wine. I'll try to eat more lightly today to make up for it.

tyla 01-17-2012 01:15 PM

I'd like to join. I'd love to start losing again. I'm going for 1350 cals during the week and 1400 cals on the weekend. I plan to exercise daily.

Good luck, everyone! :cheer2:

Reporting in for Day 1, and it was a "good" one - a bit of a worry if i can't be good on the first day though!

Stacked up the fridge with salad and veggies and had 4 small meals yesterday.

This morning i've been out for a short run, and am now hoping for a "good" Day 2!

Jubilee 01-17-2012 06:18 PM

I'd love to join too. I've been eating way too many sweets lately, it's out of control. I don't count calories really but I'll post my "bad" foods like desserts, fried things and alcohol. Today was pretty dismal as I had 1.5 chocolate bars.

armygirl808 01-17-2012 06:24 PM

I actually did really well yesterday considering I didn't make it to the gym. I am sick, and slowly recovering. I ate very well. I also went on a two hour very hilly hike. Then did some pushups and abs later in the evening. I have noticed that since I got serious about losing weight, I've lost about 3 lbs. I can only hope to keep it up!

tyla 01-17-2012 10:07 PM

I did well today. I'm glad I joined earlier. It gave me motivation to do well.
Calories: 1334
Exercise: 1 hr.

Congrats on your weight loss, Amy!

Are you 5' 7 1/2" and 122lbs?
If so, maybe your body is just hungry.

philana 01-18-2012 06:55 AM

I'd love to join you guys. I've been trying ot get back into losing the last bit for a week now. So hello!

Lil bit about myself: 26 year old student. Work in healthcare a few days a week but mostly am trying to graduate Uni this year. My procrastination get's the better of me with a LOT of things. Always looking for ways to break through that. Tips are welcome! hihi.

I don't feel fat anymore, but I also don't feel comfoy in my body jusy yet, which is why I wanna lose some more weight. My ideal would be to eventually end up at 120lbs. But I know it's probably not going to happen. Somewhere between 125 and 130 would be just fine too.

PixieChix 01-18-2012 09:21 AM

Good morning everyone. I did pretty well yesterday. :)

I am starting to feel lighter in my body, which feels good. And this morning I noticed my muffin top is shrinking a little bit!! Yay!!

LisaTcan 01-18-2012 10:00 AM

Welcome everyone! I'm glad I've got such a good response!
girl81, whole foods really would be the best option for me :) I just have a really hard time sticking to it.
ange I love your "good day" "average day" idea.

I've eaten 1500 calories the past two days..which I'm maintaining at..I really need to get down to 1200! Ugh ok, I probably need to cut out all processed foods for a while to get these last 10 lbs off.

Nice to see there so-many of us which just a few pounds to go...it really is difficult though!!

ange82much 01-18-2012 03:05 PM

Day 2 = "Good"

Back in the office yesterday and a day of strategy meetings, which involves lunch provided, but i took in my own salad instead, so discipline points awarded there!

Salad for dinner too because the electric lines across the road fell down so we had no power for 5hrs. We went to the pub instead, to watch the football that we'd intended to watch from home, but i just had soda water, so more discipline points there too!!

Today will be harder to stick to plan as we're off to the city tonight to see a music gig in a little bar with friends as part of the Sydney Arts Festival, and dinner in another bar before, so the temptation will be to have a glass of wine or two with the others!

PixieChix 01-18-2012 03:13 PM

ange, you get MAJOR discipline points. Good for you!

ange82much 01-18-2012 03:48 PM

thanks PC - i like encouragement!! :D

Well done to everyone on here though - we've all made a start, and sometimes that's the hardest thing.

PixieChix 01-18-2012 04:03 PM

I agree; everyone deserves kudos. This is a hard task on the best of days.

I'm going out for mexican food tonight (not my idea...sigh...mexican food is sooo fattening), so I'm hoping I do well.

I think not. I eat roughly 2500 kcal per day, and frankly 1-2 times per week I go over 3000 with 4 course meals and alcohol. I'm probably way less hungry than most people on here. I want to stop eating junk and replace it with healthier snacks. It's easier said than done hence my wanting to be "accountable" somewhere.

I'm the same way. I eat more than most women by far. Hunger is not an issue. My nemesis is sugar. I have to keep control of my sweet tooth or it can get out of control.

That's me to a tee. I began eating a lot of sweets during the holidays and now I've got the taste again. If I don't eat it for awhile I don't crave it. I stress it at work especially. I need to bring an abundance of healthy snacks to get back on track.

LisaTcan 01-18-2012 06:22 PM

ange82much - I need some of your discipline!!

Today so far..
B = Kashi cereal and milk, apple
S = beer nuts!! yes you read that right..sugar coated nuts!
L = veggie and chicken omelet and 1/2 bagel
S = low cal hot chocolate

According to my lose it app, i'm already at 1111!

I'm jealous of you ladies who can eat a lot :(

PixieChix 01-18-2012 06:59 PM

Okay, ladies...I need some encouragement. :( I went to eat dinner with a friend tonight and she chose a mexican restaurant. I haven't had mexican food in so long. I went crazy. I feel so bad about it. I'm telling myself that being stuffed occasionally is a good reminder of why I'm trying to change my eating habits...I hate this feeling.

What do you tell yourself when you mess up?

Totally me! Gah! If I don't eat it, I do so well; there are no cravings. But, when it starts creeping back in, the cravings spiral. And work is the worst. I'm under so much stress. And the kitchen with its candy box and holiday treats and on and on is right outside my office. I absolutely have to have more healthy snacks around me.

Awww, never mind PC. One day of good eating and you'll be right back on track. Promise yourself to stick to plan tomorrow - no deviations! It doesn't take long to feel good about yourself again.

I have a different approach to this and try not to do snacks. If i'm hungry i'm eating something i'm going to call a meal, and if i'm not hungry i'm not eating! This works well when you don't have to fit in well with someone else's eating schedule, but i suppose it doesn't really work if you have to eat a meal at a certain time. Luckily i don't really have a sweet tooth either!

I eat fruit as my snack, and Greek yogurt. It keeps me going and enables me to get my fruits in for the day. I eat veggies during meals much more than I do fruit.

I typically don't eat breakfast, so fruit and Greek yogurt between lunch and dinner are my breakfast.

I also have to get a lot of calories in during the day, and because I'm not really one for breakfast, sometimes I must supplement with more snacks. I will often eat a very big lunch and dinner instead, though.

ange82much 01-18-2012 07:58 PM

i normally have fruit salad on my cereal at breakfast, and an orange as course 2 of lunch, so i get fruit that way - but if i have to fit in with the 3 meals a day norm then i also snack on fruit in between to make it work - much prefer to ditch convention and just eat something larger if i'm properly hungry though, whatever time it is!

tyla 01-18-2012 09:32 PM

Today was especially hard. I'm not sure why. I was trying to analyze why I really wanted to start eating extra. Man, I did everything I could to distract myself. I ended up taking a broadway jazz class, thank God. Then when I came home, it hit me again. So I went out.

You're all so right! I didn't start craving extra items until the holidays hit. I only went overboard a couple of days, yet that opened the doors to "cravingland." Can't wait until it gets easy again. I must be under stress.

I find I have to white-knuckle it for about three days. I have to be really strict, even talking to myself sometimes, telling myself to stop looking at the dessert and move on. After that, it gets much easier.

philana 01-19-2012 04:48 AM

This is nice! Finally had a whole day on plan. Though I've been watching what I eat for over a week now I had some splurges. Obviously I've been eating less than maintenance calories despite that for a while now. And after my whole day on plan yesterday the scale was FINALLY down half a pound.

It's good, because I've been looking for a way to really get back into it and now that the first bit of weight has dropped I can FEEL it again. So... YAY! Here I go. :D

srmb60 01-19-2012 05:23 AM

And I had a day without much appetite at all. It was a weird tired and busy day <shrug> I did get on the elliptical for a short little sprint session and I had a look at a very nice new indoor walking track that's close to my work and only about 15 minutees from home ... hmmm ....

LisaTcan 01-19-2012 10:13 AM

I also try not to snack, if I can stick to 3 meals a day I tend to be more satisfied and not go over, I eat by "breakfast" around noon though and my dinner at 8pm. Snacks are always what causes me to go 300 calories over, I like to be full after a meal.
philana - congrats on the loss!
