Default Anyone use a pedometer or other device?

Do you wear anything throughout the day to track your heart rate, calories burned, distance traveled, etc? I don't know anything about any of it, but I think I want to get something to find out exactly how much I'm really burning & how far I'm really going.

Any advice &/or recommendations?

I use a pedometer. It tells me my step totals for the last seven days, plus the number of those steps that were areobic. It also tells met the calories burned for the day, but I don't each those calories - I just check it for reference.

So which is the best device for measuring calories burned during a workout besides walking (or is there such a device, w/o having to be evaluated by a nutritionist/doctor/@ a gym...?)? Does a pedometer only work for walking... not running?
