Unhappy Fat shifting?

So I noticed today that my tummy pooch has migrated noticeably lower -- as in, either the upper-ab fat has gone away, or the lower-ab fat has gotten larger, I'm not quite sure which.

And as far as quantitative measurements go: (1) all my measurements have gone down by 1/4 to 1/2 an inch since last week; (2) my weight has gone up (!!) since Thursday right back up to 126.4 again. I realize I haven't eaten super cleanly, but my average is still wayy under maintenance (about 1400) and I've been exercising more, which I didn't do for the past two weeks... I don't get it. WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Any conjectures / notes from experience welcome.

The measurements really tell the thruth. Your weight numbers could be showing water gains. When I work out, I always show small gains on the scale. It takes a couple of days for me to get back to the loss again. Stay with your program, it sounds like you are on track and don't let the periodic gains throw you.

Where is your lower ab fat? Could it be in an area impacted by bloating (TOM?) or just over your intestines where it will be larger after you eat?

I think that your hypothesis stating it might look larger as the top part is smaller seems very likely...my stomach has done something similar since I've been losing weight. I've hardly seen any of my measurements change, but the fat on my upper abs has really gone away - above where I measure my natural waist.

Oh wow... I weighed myself again this afternoon (after eating normall) and was back down to 124.8. WHEW.

Sometimes I think weight loss doesn't make any sense at all.

Hey lackadaisy - I'm so glad you posted this! I just noticed the same 'upper belly smaller / lower belly 'bigger' ' thing this morning and glad to know that others had experienced it too while losing weight

Last10in2011 -- It's the strangest thing, right?

I might keep updating this periodically as I notice more ab-fat changes. The lower belly pooch had shrunken noticeably... it turned out I'd lost 0.8 lbs since yesterday morning. I expect the whole thing to bloat up for TOM soon, though, haha.

ETA: Went to dance class today -- a very light-movement performance art class that I count as super-light exercise -- and wore leggings and a waist-cinching circle top. I was so proud of myself for fitting into this top again because the upper ab fat had noticeably gone -- but the lower pooch was SO visible; highly embarrassing. Ended up sucking it in all afternoon. Now there's motivation to keep losing!
