I don't think low-carb is necessary, but I do think restricting bad carbs is necessary. Good carbs like whole grains and vegetables give you energy, fuel for your workouts and your day. These foods also have a ton of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
That said, I do think some people are more sensitive to carbs than others. But, for most people, I think it's all the sugary carbohydrates that cause problems. And, by this, I do not mean fruit, which is another carb that is good for you. I'm talking refined sugars, which include not just candy and dessert and the like but also white bread, white pasta, etc. These foods have little to no nutritional value, cause cravings, have been linked to expanding waist lines, and generally are a hindrance to weight loss for many if not controlled.
Plus, I think low-carb eating plans are harder to stick with for a lot of people than are eating plans that are simply low in bad carbs.
