Short chicks, what's your ideal weight?
Hello everybody. I'm a shortie who's struggling to drop five pounds to reach a goal weight of 110. To say my body is not cooperating would be putting it mildly. I'm beginning to think that I've reached my setpoint weight and that there's nothing I can do to make the scale move.
Could some of you shorter chicks tell me what your goal or ideal weight is, if the weight is below your body's natural setpoint and what you did to get the last few pounds off. Thanks in advance. |
Hello - I'm not actually a 'short' chick now. I'm 5"5'.
But this is a recent growth spurt (!) I'm 21 and have been this height since 20, but when I was 18 I was just under 5"3' At that age my weight fluctuated between 112-116, and as teenage girls are conscious of their weight I probably wanted to be a bit lower. But looking back at that height 112 was perfect for me and my frame. Hope that helps! |
This is the same question, I've been asking myself. I'm only 5'2" and my lowest weight was about 125 after a severe case of mono and everybody told me how sickly I looked and that I was too thin. So I don't think I could ever get down to 110 like other girls that are my height are talking about. But if that should be what I weight then I need to change my goal. I am really at a loss right now?? :?:
|
Hi Hun,
That's why I took my frame into consideration, at that age I hadn't got my hips yet (which I now love) and I had a very tiny frame. I still have quite a small frame now. It's different for everyone. For example my friend who's 5ft8, has a flat stomach, good legs and thin arms. But she is a definite pear/triangle with big hips and quite a big bust as well. You would never look at her and think she needs to lose weight. But she's about 154 lbs, which is at the higher end of the healthy weight range for her height. It's literally due to the fact that her hips and that part of her frame is big that she naturally falls around that weight. Don't get disheartened by other people's personal goals, because that's exactly what they are: personal. What I'd recommend is to re evaluate how YOU feel at 135 about YOUR goal of 130. Well done so far, and good luck. xx |
Hey I am 5 1 and my goal is 125. That is where I was at when I was engaged at 21. I looked and felt great. I have wide hips and a large bust so it was a good weight for me with a flat belly and toned arms and legs.
|
Thanks dora, that helps a lot, I just gotta get down to 135 first so I can reevalutate lol
|
I'm 5'3 and guessing I'm medium framed. My ideal weight would be 120, albeit that's gonna be a task to get down to. Even with healthy eating and exercise I don't think I'll ever see below 120 with the body frame I've got.
|
Ahhh, I know this thread is old, but it makes me feel better..... I'm really short, but I don't think I'll ever be under 110.... I'm "hippy"!
|
I am 5'4" and my goal is 135. I have a feeling I'm small framed based on my wrist, fingers and feet.
Honestly, I'm pretty happy where I am now at 158. Weight lifting and toning has done amazing things, even though according to BMI I'm overweight. |
http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/a.../divider-2.jpg I'm 5'4'' and my goal weight is 110 - 120lbs. I'd be happy and content with 120. http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/a.../divider-2.jpg |
What ciao said. My friends are foodies and I like beer, so 110 is probably not in my future as a realistic and maintainable weight. ;)
|
For me I'm struggling with the same thing, except I look at my weight and my height and see my BMI, and I get a bit concerned that I'm still considered over-weight. I know BMI is not a perfect measure of health, but I would still love to be considered healthy by my BMI.
I'm still thinking about lowering my goal weight to 130... but I'll have to see when I get closer to my goal weight. Maybe you could try maintaining at 115 for awhile and re-evaluate maybe in 3 months and determine if you really want to lose the last 5 pounds. |
Haha, how optimistic of you to think I will get there before I'm 100 years old ;) It seems so far away sometimes...
|
I'm 5'2" and have never been below 130 pounds since adolescence. I'm currently aiming for 120 pounds, and my body is fighting tooth and nail- I've been on 1300 cal/day since March and have been holding steady at 129 pounds for a month. I'm already below my "setpoint" by about 10 pounds, I think.
|
I am 4'11" and I currently weigh 122. My goal is 110 or so... But mostly, just to continue healthy eating and exercise habits. I don't think I'm overweight now, but I'm on the high end of "healthy" for my height.
|
I am 5' 3'' and my current goal is 125...however, I must admit I have sort of a secret goal of 115.
In college and for a few years beyond I was about 110-120. At the time, I thought I looked too skinny at 110 lbs, but now looking back I think maybe I didn't and I looked okay. I am small framed and have very boney ribs...it kinda freaked me out that I could see my ribs all the way around my back, but even at 150 lbs I could see my ribs in the front. I am going to revaluate if I ever get to 125. As others mentioned, I don't want to avoid food with friends and wine and all that, so 115 might not be feasible for me and how I want to live my life - on college I was poor, busy and stressed out and certainly didn't always eat regularly nor was I tempted by foods and functions like I am now. |
Wow I feel like I might need to adjust my goal. I want to be 150 for right now. Its sounds high and is techincally still overweight however I have large frame. I have very muscular legs that even at 16 couldnt fit into anything less than size 6/7 pants. My size goal is to be a size 8. Maybe after I get to 150/Size 8 I will think about it again.
I am working with a trainer so my body is changing in very good ways and who knows I might find out I can go lower. I think my dream goal would be 135, which would be healthy, but I don't remember ever being that weight. |
My goal is 99lbs, but I have no idea if I can obtain that. I THINK at the end of elementry school I was like 105lbs... but I don't know. I really don't. I'm 130lbs right now, and as far as I know, I've never been this thin or thinner in my adult or teenage lifetime. I'm not even half way to goal (though I'm close!) so from here on (okay, from 140 and on) I'll be surprised.
I can see that I have plenty of weight to shed from my derrière and thighs... I think I have 30 more pounds to lose, but we'll see. Why 99? Arbitrary. I just wanted to be under 100 because of a stupid comment I overheard once. I would probably be very proud and happy with 115 and below... (Heck, who knows, maybe I'll love 125, or 120.) |
I'm 5'3" and mine is 115 I hope that's realistic for my body.

The lightest I have ever been is just over 10 stone (which is about 140lbs) and I still looked pretty overweight then, or at least I think so. So I'm setting my goal for 120. We'll see how I look when I get there, I may shift the goal a little to go lower. Of course, this is if I manage to get to 120 (I will!!!) |
I'm 5'2 and weight 135 right now. Ideally, I'd be 115...
It is harder when you only have a few pounds to go to reach your goal, especially when your goal is 110. You barely have any fat left to loose! :p How did you do it? I'm looking for tips on how to start my weight loss, and I feel completely lost. |
I don't know. I guess ideally between 95lbs-100lbs. My lowest was 85lbs but that was probably a bit too low. Now I exercise so it's going to be totally different. I may be perfectly happy at 110. For now I'm just shooting for a healthy weight and not worrying about the long term goal.

My goal weight is 104lbs... it's in the lower spectrum of the normal BMI for my height. But I'll be happy with anything below 125lbs... I just don't want to stop losing weight when I get there for fear I would gain everything back...

Hi all. I'm the OP. It's been interesting to read all of your replies. Seems like a lot of you have a goal weight of around 115 pounds. That was the weight I was stuck at for two long years. I'm now 113 but I can't say that getting those two pounds off was easy. I posted many times about my struggles and people on these boards gave me lots of advice, some of which I tried and some which I didn't simply because the suggestions weren't feasible for me. (Example: a lot of people suggested I keep my metabolism revved up and hunger at bay by eating frequent small meals but doing that wasn't possible for me on account of the nature of my job.)
What finally did the trick was cutting down to two meals a day. I eat a big breakfast of around 600 calories, either oatmeal, fruit and yogurt, or 3 scrambled eggs with a cup of spinach or broccoli and whole grain toast with peanut butter, and a small dinner of between 300 and 400 calories, usually three ounces of protein and two veggies. Breakfast is my biggest meal because I have an active job and need the fuel to get through the workday. Skipping dinner is not an option because then my husband gets on my case about my not eating. So the obvious meal for me to eliminate was lunch. This new plan was very hard at first and it still isn't easy. I avoid the breakroom during lunch because it's hard for me to sit there with my bottle of water while my coworkers eat their lunches. When I finally hit my goal weight of 110 I'll start eating lunch again and hopefully will be able to maintain my new weight. Again, thanks for all the replies. |
The specific weights I remember where I felt good have been 106 and 112. Both in college. 112 was my regular weight with hardly any exercise and I wanted to lose about 10 pounds then. So one summer (living in Sweden with my boyfriend and had no job) I just worked out (morning, mid-morning, afternoon and night!!!) like 30 minutes each time and had a very controlled diet. I remained at 112 but was very toned. That same year when I moved back to my college apt for the fall semester my Pell Grant was delayed, and I was basically starving and that's when I got to 106 really fast. My metabolism was probably accelerated because of the muscle I may have developed during the summer prior.
With those numbers in mind, I think a high-quality (maintained with strength training) 115 would be a good estimate of where I want to be. |
I'm not a featherweight yet (will be one again soon though) but I'm a shorty. I want to be anywhere from 105-115 lbs.
|
when i was 16 , i was 5'1-5'2 and weighed around 120lbs. But i have a muscular build. i was in size 0, and 1. I even remember weighing 130 and wearing 1s and 3s. Now i'm slightly taller id say 5'3 right about 5'4 and am 135. Ideally, i wanna get to 125. But my sister in law i saw her over the weekend and she is 117 and wears 1's but has no muscle..but id like to look lean. I guess when i lose these last ten i can re evaluate if needed. Mainly, i want to be slim looking as well as what the scale says :)
|
I'm 5'3, with large hips, a large bust, and a medium frame. 120-135 is my ideal weight, and I imagine my body will stop budging around then. I'm not sure, since I haven't been that low in eight years.
|
I'm 5 1, currently 134, my present goal is 125 and bill see once I get there how I feel about it.
|
I honestly have no idea. I have not been under 150 since I was 16 but I felt so good about myself at the time so for now the goal weight is 150 then I will re-evaluate once I get there.
ETA: I'm 5'2ish. |
I have trouble defining an ideal weight, because although I think I weight a lot, I'm still pretty small...right now I'm between 138-140, but I'm a size 4 (some pants are a 2 even). I know weight looks different on everyone (muscle vs. fat, frame size, etc.) so I'm curious as to what people have to say about this factor in ideal weight?
|
For me, now (at age 45) 125 is my ideal weight - I am 5'2". When I was younger, I maintained at 114-115 lbs. I will say - it was not easy, though. After two more children and whatnot - I will be very, VERY happy to reach 125 which in my mind is perfect.
|
I am 5'3" when I was between 115 and 120 I felt I looked great. But I had hard time maintaining myself there. My body "liked" being 120-125.
|
Michou, I noticed are stats are quite similar. Do you mind me asking how long it has taken to get to your current weight - and what exercise/diet you are following?
Thank you!! |
I'm 5'4" with a small-medium frame (not too petite) and a short torso. I think I looked my best around freshman year of college, around 110, but my goal right now is to get down to 115 with muscle tone and reevaluate.
|
I'm 5'2 and a 1/2 and currently weigh 137, my goal weight has always been 125, however I'm already pretty sure that once I get there I would like to then set a goal of 115 although I will make that decision at 125. I currently wear a medium top, but those are a little loose on me sometimes, depending on the style or what store it's from. I wear a size 6 pants, again...depending on where it's from, for instance I just bought pants from Victoria's Secret online and they are a size 6 and are a bit snug (will button but I for sure have muffin top and the thighs and butt are tight) on me so I can't wear them currently, but my size 6 jeans from American Eagle are a bit loose.
|
IM 5'1 3/4 and my goal weight is 133 .. I might change the weight goal once I hit the 130's but that depends on how My body looks at that stage.
