Making Goal Weight- 4th of July Challenge

Hey Ladies!

I know we have a few other short term goal challenges running right now, but i wanted to start a longer term challenge. My goal is to meet my final goal by July 4th this year. I have been toying a bit with my goal and i think 112 will do. To meet this goal i need to lose 10 pounds in about 4 months. that's about 2.5 pounds a month. DOABLE!

Personal goals:
work out 4-5x a week
between 1100-1500 calories a day
keep up the very low alcohol intake

SW:122
CW:122
GW:112

xgemziex 03-07-2010 09:55 AM

Hey! :) I have my shorter term goal to try and get to 115 lbs by the 4th of April but I'd like to join this long term one as well so that I keep motivated even when it's over. My goal is to maintain 115 lbs and maybe lose a couple more by the 4th July! This is because once I reach my goal I tend to lose sight of what I've done and go back to my old bad habits.

Personal goals:
Exercise 5 times a week
Keep intake around 1200 calories until I reach my goal
Increase my calories to 1800 when maintaining
Try and drink a lot more water and a lot less diet pop!

SW:119.2
CW:119.2
GW: Between 110 and 115

stella1609 03-07-2010 09:10 PM

I'd like to join in, even though I'm a bit heavier than you guys, lol.

Personal Goals:
Exercise 4-5 times per week
Eat 1400-1600 calories per day
Continue to lose at least 1 lb. per week on average
Drink more water!

SW: 186
CW: 172
GW: 155 (maybe lower)

diornotwar 03-08-2010 12:26 AM

i'm definitely in! we can do this! :)

personal goals:
work out 5-6 times a week
control calorie intake [1200-1500]
less alcohol & more water!

maenad 03-08-2010 09:19 AM

So glad to see a few people joined!

xgemziex- Diet soda is a very hard habit to break! good luck!
stella1609- any and all weights are welcome! It sure sounds like you have good goal- 1 lbs a week would be perfect. Unfortunately it comes off a lot slower for me!
diornotwar- We CAN do this!!! I'm with you on the alcohol, it is hard to quit completely!

So I already have a update!!!! Yesterday i weighed in at 122 after a little over a week at 121.5. I was a little bummed, but whats half a pound when you know you did nothing wrong? I thought it was just water weight. Well, this morning i weighed in at 121 even! WOOT WOOT!!!! I have been in a great mood all day despite the awful weather and my least favorite class this morning!

xgemziex 03-10-2010 05:01 AM

I'm still trying, haven't quite got there yet though! :( A lot less than I was having though!

SW:119.2
CW:118.4
GW: Between 110 and 115

Weighed in, not a massive loss but I never have big losses at this stage so I'm quite impressed :) Hope you're all doing well!

maenad 03-10-2010 09:26 AM

xgemziex- I know what you mean, My loses are so small at this point. I get so excited over just a half a pound!

I have weighed in the past three days at 121. So i think it is official: I weigh 121 pounds! I'm pretty pleased with myself!

SW:122
CW:121
GW:112

stella1609 03-10-2010 02:34 PM

I FINALLY broke the 171 barrier--171.8! But I'm down another 1/2" off my waist--30" now (from 35" when I started).

maenad 03-12-2010 06:10 AM

Stella1609- WOOT WOOT!! go you!

So on Wednesday i guess i drank a bit too much. I had the hang over from **** all day yesterday. I was literally throwing up until midnight last night. I was never able to keep anything down yesterday. I woke up feeling weak, but better. I got the stupid idea to weigh myself...118 pounds. I know i will be back to 121 by the end of they day once i am properly hydrated, but it was sort of fun seeing those low numbers!

While laying in bed all day yesterday i had a bit of a chat with myself about drinking. I think i am going to cut out alcohol 100%.

Hope you all are doing well!

stella1609 03-12-2010 09:04 AM

Haha Maenad, just as long as you don't make a habit of losing weight that way ;) Doesn't sound like it's worth it!

Good luck on cutting back on drinking--it's definitely a healthy decision long-term. Even if you don't quit completely, just limiting how many drinks you have, or how many nights you drink would be good!

Joan 03-13-2010 08:46 AM

The worst thing about drinking while dieting, for me, is that one glass of wine and my food inhibitions are GONE! It's hard enough to maintain self-control while sober.

What I do is, I try to eat as quickly as possible. Once I'm full, I have no desire to drink on top of that. Problem solved.

size8 03-16-2010 06:23 AM

This is great ladies, you can count me in also...
I will try to update on progress weekly but I usually weigh in 2x a month...

maenad 03-16-2010 09:41 AM

Hey! I hope you are al doing well.

I am maintaining 121 pretty well. I hurt my back (after the worst hang over ever) and haven't been able to work out as hard as i was before. Other than that I am taking a holiday this coming week. I am off to Europe for a week of fun. not going to worry too much about food, just going to try to enjoy myself! I am hoping to hit 120 before i leave, but we'll see!

stella1609 03-16-2010 08:43 PM

I'm doing great! VERY close to hitting 169--might happen with my weigh-in tomorrow unless TOM screws it up (usually doesn't affect my weigh-ins, but you never know).

I bought real running shoes today! Had a fabulous (well, for me, hehe) run yesterday and I can't wait to try the new shoes tomorrow.

xgemziex 03-17-2010 07:45 AM

Maenad - I know, right? haha :) My fingers are crossed for 120 for you!

SW:119.2

Lost another 0.8 lbs this week, gotta be happy about it ! :)

natamars 03-18-2010 10:38 PM

I would love to join you guys and try to hit goal by 7/4. I am about 17 lbs. from mine, so may be too ambitious, but I want to try. I'm debating going to my 20th college reunion which is the first weekend in June, so I'm trying to lose as much as I can by then.

Plan: Keep following fat smash(5-6 small meals a day, about 1000-1300 calories, all healthy foods)
Gym 5-6 days/week
Walk at lunch 30-40 minutes whenever weather cooperates

xgemziex, that's a BIG loss when you're so close to goal - congrats!

maenad, have a wonderful trip! Enjoy the food - that's something special. I actually lost weight when I went because of all the walking.

stella1609, did you break 170? Please send an update. Decades are HUGE!

stella1609 03-19-2010 12:23 AM

I usually weigh first thing in the morning so I don't know what possessed me to hop on the scale tonight, but I stripped down right after I washed my face and guess what--169.8!!!! It's soooo just barely there, but I'm in the 160s!! That's 17 lbs. lost and just another 14 lbs. to go to make my goal. I am well over halfway :) I actually hope to make my goal by the end of May, which I should do easily if I keep up my current weight loss (17 lbs. in 11 weeks).

fosterfam 03-19-2010 01:44 AM

Hmmm... May just have to jump in here!

I am not sure (very new at weight loss/dieting) if I can get to my goal of 20 to 25lbs by July 4th or not but I would sure like to try! I bought a Bellicor bungee rebounder and it should be here tomorrow or Monday. Along with that daily, I am using my Vitamix throughout the day for various mega-healthy no & low fat smoothies and several salads with lots of dark leafy green lettuce, cabbage, carrots, etc. So my raw fruits and veggies should be more than adequate along with plenty of water and tea.
I quit smoking a year and 1+months ago and put on 35 pounds. I now have 20 of those (ish) left to lose and a support group always works wonders for my motivation!

Pam

kamesennin 03-19-2010 01:31 PM

I have 20lbs to go and I don't think I can do that by July but I'd like to join in for 10lbs! I'm just so sick of carrying around 20 extra pounds and it just needs to go this year or I'll never get there. I started swimming in addition to my boot camp class and cardio sculpt class so I want to focus on getting more cardio.

I'll be reading this thread and keeping up with everyone's progress! Gotta take pics today in my swimsuit for posterity.

fitmom2boys 03-20-2010 09:36 AM

I just joined this site a few weeks ago and would like to join in on this challenge. My goal is to be down 15 lbs by 7/4.
I need to get off my lazy but and hit the gym more than 1 day a week and start eating healthier foods.

danni 03-20-2010 03:29 PM

fitmom - don't give up! It took me 2 months of starting and giving in to bad habits and getting up the next morning and starting again. I read that it takes 6 months to form new habits. I have been serious about being healthy for 2 1/2 months and it does get easier - but I still have to work at it and talk the little  out of tempting me. Some days I lose that battle - but I'm always ready to get back on plan. I feel so much better when I eat right and exercise.

:goodluck: on getting with your program and staying with it!

xgemziex 03-21-2010 10:18 AM

Natamars - I guess so! Thank you :D. Good luck on your plan it sounds good to me but try not to have too little calories!
Stella1609 - Congratulations, 169.8 is in the 160's no matter which way you look at it, keep up the hard work! :D.
fitmom - It takes a while to make the exercise and diet a habit but after 21 days or so they say it should just come easily.
kamesennin - Good luck on your goal! I'm thinking of going swimming more too, I hear it's a great type of exercise and burns A LOT of calories. Something to do with the resistance against the water?
fosterfam - Ah quitting smoking is hard so congratulations on that! I'm sure that's one one the many reasons I managed to gain the weight back myself. Your plan sounds great, have a great week.

Evelyn48 03-21-2010 10:29 AM

I would like to join in, I have 33 lbs to loose, just started yesterday, I would like to make a goal to loose 15 lbs by July 4th..It sure would give me something to look for too..:)

stella1609 03-21-2010 11:14 AM

Welcome Evelyn, Fitmom, and Kamesennin! You CAN do this, ladies--and it DOES get easier. I found after that first month, it was all smooth sailing. Your body really does thank you for taking better care of it.

Thanks so much for the encouragement natamars and Gemma! I dropped almost another 2 lbs. right after I hit 169--I've been holding in the 168s for three or four days now! I'm so excited--I didn't spend any time at all at 169. Since I upped my water intake and started seriously jogging, I've gone from 1 lb. a week back up to 2 lbs. a week. I was working out pretty hard before, so I guess my body just likes the way I've been exercising and fueling it lately.

I can jog about 2 mi. without stopping now at just under 5 mph. I talked to my dad yesterday, who's always been a sports enthusiast, and there's a 5K when I go home to visit next month! I'm sooooo excited and nervous at the same time--I've never done anything like that, especially not with my dad. It really means a lot to me that I'm going to be able to do it. Now I just have to work my butt off over the next few weeks!

Evelyn48 03-21-2010 12:31 PM

Oh I forgot, Stella, beautiful strides you are making and thanks for the welcome..I am so proud of all of you. You all are an inspiration, it gives me insentive to be in your company..

kamesennin 03-22-2010 03:14 AM

xgemziex, I hope this will help me break through this huge mental wall that I have going on! I was soooo tired after only 30 min of kicking w/the paddle board. Amazing. I wish I could swim like the people on tv--I sink like a rock but my boobs float up to the top! It's weird.

stella, how much water do you drink per day? I'm trying for 10 cups but it's a lot of water. :dizzy: I've always wanted to do a 5K!

I just finished cooking some meals for this week. I like to make weight watchers recipes just because it's usually low calorie and pretty balanced--made this mushroom risotto http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/r...ecipeid=192891
and divided them all into containers. I don't do weight watchers, though--maybe I should since I'm always cooking the recipes they put on their website! Just gotta cook my oatmeal for this week and I'm set. I had fun at Target buying a bunch of little containers.

nicholediet 03-22-2010 08:01 AM

Hey!
I just joined and my goal is 12 lbs by 7/4.
Here's to hitting the gym.... hard!

stella1609 03-22-2010 09:01 AM

Welcome, nicholediet :)

Kamesennin, I aim for 64 oz of water, then whatever juice/other liquids I have are just bonus (usually 8 oz. grapefruit juice, 8 oz. V8 Fusion, cup of hot tea). I have been taking a lot of bathroom breaks though!

xgemziex 03-22-2010 04:07 PM

How's everyone doing? :)

Stella1609 - Always welcome! You're doing so well! You'll be at your goal in no time and before you know it you'll be celebrating the 150's! :D.
kamesennin - All I can say is I wish my boobs were big enough to float anywhere haha! I was blessed with the amazing gift of being pretty flatchested. I'm gonna take a look at some of those weight watcher recipes I've never actually made of of theirs before! At the moment though I've started to really crave salads and I usually HATE salads, I mean with a passion. My tastebuds are changing I'm sure because now the taste of tea makes me gag! haha. A couple of weeks ago I was drinking 4 or 5 cups a day.
Nicholediet - Welcome :). Good luck and have fun at the gym ;).

fosterfam 03-23-2010 12:33 AM

Just checking in. For whatever reason my scale reported THREE lbs heavier today. I have consistently weighed 144.4 for the past week and then today 147. My guess is that I didn't drink enough water yesterday and TOM is here so maybe it was a combo of those things. My food intake good (did not over-eat) and I spent a lot of time on the rebounder and just moving around more in general throughout the day.

Also, would someone mind giving me a heads up on what I should be doing regarding updates/checking in for our 4th of July challenge? I am hoping to get to know our challenge group and move past being sooooo new to the board... and do this right! :dizzy:

THANKS!!
Pam

I'm not a fan of salad, either! lol I made this great salad that passes for a meal:
http://www.womenshealthmag.com/node/19335
Spinach Barley Salad--I didn't have time to cook the barley so I just substituted a bag of Trader Joe's instant brown rice. Also used apple cider vinegar instead of the sherry vinegar bc that is what I had in the fridge. Yummy!

Taurie 03-23-2010 05:14 AM

Put me down for 110 lb by July 4th. This will definitely help to keep me accountable.

xgemziex 03-23-2010 07:21 AM

fosterfam - I guess you can do it any way you want, find what works for you :). I weigh in properly once a week so that's when I post my new weights on here. Up or down that's when I change my ticker and post it to the boards.
kamesennin - That actually does sound quite yummy! haha. I'm into prawns a lot at the moment now as well, prawn salads, beautiful <3 lol.
Taurie - Welcome :). We have similar stats haha, got my fingers crossed for you (yn).

kamesennin 03-24-2010 03:45 AM

Last two days have been in the garbage as far as eating.......BLAH. Going swimming tomorrow morning and I'm going to try and do some laps w/out the paddle board. Without drowning, hopefully. Sadly there are no hot lifeguards on the morning shift at the Y. :(

Got some vit D pills at the store today so I'm adding those to my pill regimen. lol Now I'm up to fish oil, prenatals, vit d, and zinc. Who knows if they help but at least I'm doing something, rite? lol

0.4 lbs down this week :). Keep up the hard work everyone and kamesennin don't let a few bad days set you back get back on track and you'll be at goal in no time :).

Taurie 03-25-2010 04:35 PM

No movement on the scale in the last couple days, but I'm hanging in there.

maenad 03-26-2010 12:10 PM

WOW! I am so happy to see how many people have joined this Challenge! WELCOME to all the new people!

I am sorry I have been MIA for the past week, but i was on holiday in Europe for a week. I got back and promptly got ill, so i have been bed ridden all day. Just my luck!

I have some big news...I GOT ENGAGED!!! My BF of 2 years finally asked me! I am really excited and this means i really need to meet goal by the 4th. I think the wedding will be some time in July, so the pressure is on!!!

I was really proud of myself to see that i didn't gain an ounce on the trip. I ate alot, but i guess all the walking and site seeing helped out!

maenad 03-26-2010 12:14 PM

Taurie - WELCOME! don't worry about there being no movement. sometimes it just takes a few days. Try changing up your calorie intake, one day a little higher, one day a little lower.
xgemziex - woot woot! your doing great!

shasha12 03-26-2010 12:52 PM

MAENAD, WOOOO!!! :carrot: that is so exciting, congratulations!!!!!

xgemziex 03-26-2010 06:11 PM

Taurie - Like maenad said sometimes it just takes a while to see a change, keep up the hard work and it'll drop in no time! :).
Maenad - Thankyou! :D And argh that really is bad luck! I hope you had a great time though, where did you go in Europe? && Oh my Gosh congratulations on the engagement! That really is amazing! The wedding will be as soon as July? Even better, I don't think you could find better motivation :).
