I picked my goal (which is to lose 7 kg of body fat) because the body composition analyzer at my gym told me so. Supposedly my ideal weight is minus 7 kg (15 lbs) of what I am now.
I am currently 65 kg and if I don't gain any muscle in the process my goal weight would be 58 kg. (I have, however, in the past month, gained 1 kg of muscle mass).
I have this goal weight because this is exactly wht I weighed last summer before I lost total control of my life..
I think I am going to adjust mine one last time to be in the low range of normal. So, I think I am going for upper 120's now. I am still losing (although slowly) and I feel very good about what I am doing. Good luck everyone.
I still haven't really decided on a goal weight. So far I've lost 20 pounds and I'm pretty happy with that. My BMI says I'm still about 5 pounds overweight. In the short term, my goal 159 which puts me in the normal range for BMI.
Also, I currently have 25 pounds on my 16 year old brother. He wants to gain weight and I want to lose. I made a deal with him that I will lose 12.5 pounds and he will gain 12.5 pounds so that he can pass me up. It works for both of us!
I think I'd be happy around 150ish. Maybe 145 to give myself some wiggle room. I don't want to be thin. I just don't want to be fat anymore.
I chose my initial goal weight of 180 arbitrarily. Being overweight for all of my adult life (and as a teen), I didn't really have any idea how I would appear after losing a substantial amount of weight. I'd always assumed that if I needed to stop before I reached 180, I'd be able to. I'm now very close to my first amended goal of 170, which I've again lowered to 160. I'm working on toning my body more extensively now than I was in the past, so I'm sure my body has a lot of changes ahead.
I chose mine because it's approximately the middle of the "normal" BMI range, and a nice round number! I don't think it would be healthy for me to be at the low end of the range.
I chose mine by what I used to weigh, the weight I have been most of my adult life (overweight), and age.
