Planning & Chat for May 12 - 18

Good morning all and welcome to a new week. How is everyone's spring going? Are we ready for those bare fashions?

Have a terrific week!

Dagmar

Mudpie 05-12-2008 05:53 AM

One step forward . . .

. . . and I'm quite determined to take no more steps back. I'm back to 135 after two weeks of being on a roller coaster of binge/restrict, binge/restrict. I can't believe this was the way I used to eat all the time :o.

I stayed OP all weekend even with dinner out one night and going to a movie the next (Iron Man is quite fun ;)).

The strength training has gone by the wayside temporarily due to an injury :( and will have to resume sometime late in June due to dog sits coming up.

I'm starting to look forward to summer again :D.

Dagmar :twirly:

PrettyPaula 05-12-2008 06:37 AM

hey! hope your in;jury gets better soon (HUG)

Im back to 206.8-207... my body has settled down again... im hoping to get to 205 this week :)

Loveliam 05-12-2008 07:50 AM

Good morning all!

Dagmar- It sounds like you are very much back on track, which is awesome!

Paula - which day do you usually weigh in? I do so on Fridays.

I am praying that I am now back on track after my awful day yesterday.

I am class mother for my son and have to do a bunch of teacher appreciation stuff all week. So that is my main plan this morning - after which I will power walk.

srmb60 05-12-2008 08:36 AM

Morning my dears!

I, too, ate too much yesterday (and the day before).

It's kinda rainy here today. Not enough to stop me from walking to the gym tho', I don't think.

I'm going to weigh myself there and think on a plan for this week.

batmomm2000 05-12-2008 10:07 AM

I like the idea of Friday weigh in's so I will start that this week. Today I have an interview at my gym to be a general fitness instructor (nothing with certification). Should be fun. After that I hope to get a nice run in. hOpefully the weather will hold for me.

Kitegirl24 05-12-2008 12:18 PM

So yesterday was my official beginning of my healthy lifestyle :carrot: :D

I went to the gym and did about 3 miles on the treadmill (walking/running) and some weights. Woke up this morning and was REALLY sore!! :^: By the end of this week though, hopefully my body will get used to the daily exercise...

I am also trying to eat less food, but more often (just when I am hungry, pretty much). It's going well so far but I still have to stay away from the cookies and crackers in the pantry :p

My starting weight was 120 yesterday morning, and I think I will be weighing myself every Sunday after my post-workout shower. I talked to my dad about what I should reasonably expect to lose (he's a personal trainer) and he thinks that 1lb/week isn't too extreme. I will be going by how my clothes fit more than pounds lost, though, since I am focusing on building muscle as well with weight training.

Hope everyone has a great start to their week! :)

Loveliam 05-12-2008 02:10 PM

Today is going far, far better than yesterday :woohoo:

I am wondering if part of my problem is too little protein. So in addition to the peanut butter snacks on healthy bread; I also got some low fat cottage and ate some as a snack. Eating a lot more protein like this seems to help me a lot.

Kitegirl - your plan sounds extremely reasonable to me.

Batmomm - oh let us know how your interview goes!

Susan - hope you had a good work out and weigh in.

PrettyPaula 05-12-2008 02:13 PM

LoveLiam i weigh every day... i know its silly but i can know how i go with foods each day really... i dont stress over it!

iriswhispers 05-12-2008 02:51 PM

hi all! welcome, leigh!

paula - i used to weigh every day and i really think that i should start again. i think it helped keep me in check even if gaining a half a pound made me bummed.

leigh - are you a vegetarian? i noticed the choices of PB and cottage cheese for protein and was curious. i am but i think i'm going to try to eat a little meat now and again - i'm thinking maybe once or twice a week. I used to be very conscious about my nutrition but lately i've been a bad veg and i think i need to do something!

kitegirl - great job on the workout! keep it up.

batmomm - good luck w/ the job at the gym. that would be a great atmosphere to work in for keeping up your own training!

dagmar - i am totally looking forward to summer but not at all ready to bear my legs and arms. time to get a move on for me!!

tonight i am going out to dinner with my parents and bf for my birthday (which was a couple of weeks ago, this was just the first time we could do it) and i know it will involve drinks and onion rings, not sure what else to eat! as damage control i just had a salad and a pretzel at lunchtime and am hoping to make it to the gym - just need a little motivation because my allergies make me want to crawl back in bed!

alinnell 05-12-2008 04:40 PM

I was doing great this weekend, and then the scale was up again today. I don't get it...

I have to take a skirt into the tailor's to have the waist let out. Yikes--let out? Well, I have to admit this skirt is 10 or 12 years old (formal, long black lined skirt) and I wore it when I was 130 and now I'm 148. I should have paid more attention to my diet. I've been "maintaining" at 146-148 for over a year now when my goal is 133-135. I must get cracking. Oh, yeah, I am doing that. Today is day one of phase 1 of the South Beach diet--just something to get me GOING in the right direction again.

Allison You have a plan. That means you're already back on track.

Dagmar

batmomm2000 05-12-2008 10:53 PM

hope you had a great night IRis!! I love onion rings...

thank Leigh! It went great. Apparently they need to hire at least 20 more people in the next month so I think the fact that I wasn't drooling sealed the deal. I do have to have a second interview but it seems like a done deal. HE also said that they really encourage "fitness instructors" to go ahead and get certified to become personal trainers. Sounds pretty exciting to me. Definately need to stay on the straight and narrow eating wise though b/c no one wants a chunky trainer :D

srmb60 05-13-2008 06:07 AM

Fitness instructor does sound exciting!

I've been weighing at the gym to keep consistent. Mondays are the day for that thread that Meg started, but I can weigh at the gym whenever I want. Usually a few times a week.

I've got my lunch packed, my gym bag packed, supper thawing and (aside from teeth) I'm ready for work. And DH wonders why I get up at 5:15!

My Dh thinks I'm crazy for wanting to get up at 5 to get the strength workouts in. I had a slightly dislocated arm until Sunday night so couldn't train for a couple of days. Back at it this morning even though I've got a cold coming on.

Once you get the body fit and exercising it doesn't want to stop. We are made to move!

So true Dagmar!

I have been a little remiss in posting lately, not because I haven't been exercising or have fallen off the wagon...I've just been in lurking mode I suppose!

I too have been waking up early in the morning to get in my cardio. Even though I'm a stay at home mom, I always felt guilty about letting the little ones watch tv while I exercised...when I had much more to lose I put that out of my head but now...the guilt has increased to such a level that I was skipping my cardio to hang with the kiddies.

No more! I am now part of the morning exercise club and I love it thus far. It's been 2 weeks now and I feel great and healthy and the best thing is that by 6 am my workout is done! Woo!

Errands galore today!

thinnythighs 05-13-2008 08:07 AM

Things have been progressing along nicely.

Last weigh in: 148

This weigh in: 145

PrettyPaula 05-13-2008 08:17 AM

hey ladies!!

im totally feeling the exercise bug myself... got a good hours worth of yoga in last night and today ive had a physio appointment... in my yoga and pilates ive been struggling with my left hip and leg it just does not move as much as the right side.. she has shown me some exercises to do to loosen that up and i am going to do them every day now as they helped my back so much!

she says they will give my butt and legs some serious tone!!

batmomm2000 05-13-2008 11:10 AM

ooh I want the butt tone!! Sounds aweseome paula!

I so wish I could be an early bird like you all. I stay up way to alte to possibly enjoy the morning. On the flipside though I'll be at the gym at midnight again tonight so I guess it will all work out. I ran 4 miles this morning and am headed to the gym now for something, mostly b/c I want to chat with a friend I haven't seen in a while so I'll find somehting to do.

Dagmar-hope the arm/shoulder holds up for you.

alinnell 05-13-2008 12:52 PM

I did quite well with SB yesterday. Only one glitch and that's because I was eating some leftovers for lunch (at least it was ww pasta that was the glitch). We had bunless burgers for dinner last night and it was a light dinner.

I took the skirt to be let out. They're not sure they can do what I want, but we'll see come Friday. I tried to find another skirt, but I guess it isn't really in fashion any longer (what? a floor length black skirt?). I went to 5 stores to no avail.

Me too! I would love to go to the gym in the morning and get my workout out of the way, but that would mean getting up super early....I start my new job next Monday, and need to be there at about 8am. It takes 20 minutes to drive there, so I would have to get up at 5-5:30am to get ready, drive to the Y, excercise, drive back, shower, and eat breakfast. I guess I could technically manage it if I went to bed early every day, but for now I'm just planning on going right after work (even though that's the busiest time of day).

Maybe if I hit a "plateau" in the future I will try excercising in the morning, to shake things up and keep my body guessing.

Yesterday didn't go as planned unfortunately - diet was good but never got to the gym! :( I was in the library from 11am-9pm finishing my last paper (yay! done with sophomore year) so I just went home, had dinner, and went to bed last night. I am definitely going to the gym today though, so I should be fine. :)

batmomm2000 05-13-2008 03:56 PM

congrats on being done for the summer!! So are you near home? can your dad train you? that's really cool, assuming that you guys can work together.

This summer my marathon training team will be meeting Sat mornings at 6:30-7am and I already think that's insane LOL.

srmb60 05-13-2008 04:36 PM

I try to make it to the gym for cardio after my shift is done at 3 pm. So far it's great. Today, I was the only one there.

iriswhispers 05-13-2008 05:46 PM

:woo: i need to get back on the wagon - celebrations always turn into week-long things with me! my bf offered to make me dinner tonight and i just can't turn that down.

trailgroomer 05-13-2008 06:25 PM

nice weather = exercise bug

I get easily motivated to exercise when the weather is nice - need to do more of some kind of exercise to help back muscles.

nice weather = better eating choices too!

sounds like we are all on the right track!

:dizzy:

Loveliam 05-13-2008 07:09 PM

Iris- I am not vegetarian, but meat is not one of my real loves in the food category, so I tend to prefer non-meat protein. Though I do cook some type of poultry/meat for dinner usually. Happy belated Bitrhday!!

Allison- have you done South Beach before? Just curious.

batmomm - wow! It sounds like your interview was stellar :) Awesome.

Susan - it looks like you are doing really well with sticking to your goals!

Dagmar- I have a cold coming on too. With DS and DH both having it, I guess there was no way around it for me. Hope you got a good work out in!

Lekhika - it sounds like you have been doing great with exercise. I wish I could report the same levels of exercise enjoyment, but at least I have been doing it :)

thinnythighs- WTG with your weigh in!!!!

PrettyPaula- So how long have you been doing yoga?

Kitegirl- Hooray for completeing your sophmore year!

trailgroomer- so have you been getting in a lot of outdoor time then?

My day was very good - although extremely busy! Which is why I have not been online all day. I did my power walk and stayed on plan. This week I am starting to feel a bit thiner finally . . . like my clothes are just a tiny bit looser.

Lekhika 05-13-2008 08:07 PM

Loveliam
I used to hate exercise and while I don't still totally love it, I do love being able to push my body hard...and see the progress I've made since beginning this 3FC odyssey last year. What I absolutely LOVe about morning exercise is that it gets me up early and alone! (As a former loner I really crave that alone time...something not easily done with two little ones!) I also find less time for excuses because I KNOW if I don't work it in the morning, I won't have any time to do it in the day.

It's an hour until bedtime and I'm feeling pretty darn sleepy. Must keep awake until 9. HOpe all of you are well. I'm going to try and enjoy tomorrow before more rain hits NJ this coming week....*sigh*

walking2lose 05-13-2008 09:30 PM

Hey girls,

I read the whole thread to catch up, but I don't have time for personals (although I am wondering why you need a floor length black skirt, Allison??). Sounds everyone is trucking along or recommitting... both are good things, huh??

I've had a heckuva busy week... not much exercise, but I think food isn't bad. I have honestly not entered dailyplate for 3-4 days!

Can't wait till I can reclaim a little time... ME time :-)

Just wanted to check in... more later, ladies!

srmb60 05-14-2008 05:41 AM

Morning!

Hmmm ... I would have liked to sleep more. Be good everyone!

Mudpie 05-14-2008 05:42 AM

Summer's coming

I think I'm finally getting over the winter (aside from the darn head cold) and starting to really want salads and fresh veggies instead of forcing myself to eat them. I always enjoy fruit in any season.

I'm away on a dog sit from this Friday to Sunday May 25 but will try to check in when I can (the client's house has the slooowest computer in the world). Could someone else start the Planning & Chat thread next week please?

thanks
Dagmar :sunny:

Loveliam 05-14-2008 09:42 AM

Lekhika - I can totally relate to needing alone time! I am the same way. But now that DS is in pre-school I feel like I get just a bit. Rain is coming to Georgia too.I won't complain because we truly need all the rain we can get being in a drought.

Claire- I hope you are able to catch your breath soon.

Susan - LOL! I would have liked to sleep more too.

Dagmar- sounds like you will have a busy weekend :)

I am under the weather today :( My stomach is giving me major problems so I am just hanging around and will probably sleep a bit if I can. Most likely not up to a power walk today, but we will see.

batmomm2000 05-14-2008 11:02 AM

Leigh-hope the tummy feels better soon. Take it easy for a while. And you can keep all the rain, we had plenty here in VA lately.

Dagmar-do you stay overnight at their houses while you sit? thanks for all your advice the other day. She still coming up with new demands...

Susan-I hear ya on the sleep. I got home from the gym last night at 2am!!

Lekhika-that's why I run, that time without someone needing something from me, esp the kids. I love that ME time.

Claire-I hope you can get some YOU time this week. It's tough when everything is so hurried, hardto exercise and hard to make good choices.

Yesterday I ran outside and then went to the gym and ran some more and then took my midnight class. So I'm trying to decide if I should take today off. I'm not a giant fan of generic crosstraining but that probably means I should do it. I just love how much more eating freedom I get when I factor the exercise into the mix.

alinnell 05-14-2008 11:43 AM

I've never "done" South Beach before, but if you look at how I eat, it is very, very close to what they preach for phase 2. I'm just trying phase 1 for a week or so to get back on track.

Half a pound down...15 to go.

batmomm2000 05-14-2008 02:13 PM

I just lowered my goal weight by 5 lbs! Although if the strength training takes off and I don't actually get down that far I'll be ok.

Loveliam 05-14-2008 02:46 PM

Batmomm - my main motivation for exercise is also being able to eat a bit more, or have a bit of a cushion - although on a logical level I understand the immense health benefits of exercise I wouldn't say that alone motivates me - unfortunately.

Allison - I am glad SB seems to be working so well for you.

My stomach is a lot better than this morning, but I am still not 100% - though I was happy to get a nap in today.

A box of chocolates DH ordered for me for Mother's Day arrived (late) today. Ei yi yi. I have limited myself to just three pieces per day, but am also going to happily share with DH and DS to get rid of them even more quickly.

Thanks! Yeah, I go to school out-of-state and now I am back home for the summer and working until the end of August, when I will be traveling to Spain for my junior year abroad. So I definitely want to be bikini-ready for hanging out on the Costa del Sol! :sunny:

My dad is giving me some guidelines for what I should be doing, like my target heart rate and things like that...it does help a lot to have family who is supportive of what you are doing!

Went to the gym yesterday and did an intense hour on the elliptical/cross-trainer, and am planning on doing cardio + weights today....

Mudpie 05-14-2008 04:59 PM

Sad grey day today

I think the head cold is dragging me down, along with the cold grey weather.

And I jsut saw some charming new signs at the beach which say it is now "illegal" in Toronto to bring "personal or family fireworks" to the beach on Victoria Day!

I'm beginning to feel like my life in Toronto is now "death by a thousand cuts". All the small, charming things I enjoyed about this city are now being eradicated by the municipal government. Everything is now a corporate entity and all celebrations are with sponsorship and a complete set of rules which mostly prohibt citizens from doing things.

And the new Vogue with SJP and Chris Noth doing hot and sexy things is not available on our newsstands yet - SIGH.

Dagmar :(

iriswhispers 05-14-2008 11:55 PM

whew! all of a sudden wednesday is over, i haven't been to the gym in a week, and i have only two days until my bf's gradution!:fr: how did this sneak up on me? luckily i already have the dress i am wearing and it hides the bulges pretty well, but i still need to stay on track for the next two days. do you gals feel like i do that even if you haven't lost anything, just being on track for a day or two boosts self confidence?

dagmar, i hate it when little freedoms are taken away... like how we can no longer bring a bottle of wine to summer sunday concerts in the park. but i guess that's for the best for my waistline anyway!

loveliam - share those chocolates! =)

allison, congrats on the half a pound down! cheers for moving in the right direction.

kitegirl, that's exciting that you're going to be studying in spain! what is your major?

batmomm, i have to agree that i love the extra eating flexibility that working out gives me. unfortunately i've been too tired for the gym lately (lame excuse) and still eating as usual... not a good combination.

srmb60 05-15-2008 06:04 AM

Good morning!

I don't have anything new or startling ... just hello and have a slender day.

walking2lose 05-15-2008 06:47 AM

ditto Susan's post! My exercise has been non existent. I am ready to be not so busy! Have a great day, ladies!
