Morning cardio done! I have a busy day planned today...I have to run around town and hunt down "suntan tights" that my daughter will need for her recital...(the in class dress rehearsal is today!). Then after her class, I will zip off to buy veggies for next week.

It's leftovers all day today, so I won't be doing any cooking other than breakfast. Thank god the kiddies are still sleeping....I get some more down time to have my tea and relax before the "breakfast rush".

Thanks SusanB....I will try to have a slender day! :p

PrettyPaula 05-15-2008 07:22 AM

morning everyone, my lovely scale told me i was 202.2 today so i am veryhappy.. onederland is edging ever nearer!

alinnell 05-15-2008 09:57 AM

My evening last night was great! DH and I went to a new restaurant for our 20th anniversary (ok--not a new, new restaurant but one that we'd never gone to). It was an expensive splurge, but we only do this once a year.

I'm down another half pound DESPITE eating 2 rolls and a dollop of garlic mashed potatoes AND wine! It's still not enough to fit into my skirt next weekend (and the tailor called, they can't let the skirt out). I may be going shopping this weekend!

batmomm2000 05-15-2008 11:05 AM

great job paula!! You'll be at Onederland before you know it!

batmomm2000 05-15-2008 11:09 AM

sounds fun Allison. Do you buy any chance have a Dress Barn near you? I needed a long black skirt once and found one there. I don't think I had ever been in it before and not since but I did get a nice black skirt :D

I ran 5 miles this morning. Today's my son's 8yr bday so we'll be eating at Friday's tonight, only way he'll get to see daddy today. I will have to be good all day so that I don't lose all the effort I've put in all week.

Does anyone else use the daily plate? I just got a "medal" for logging my food for 30 consecutive days, I didn't think I had been doing it that faithfully but I guess I have and it has totally helped keep me honest.

alinnell 05-15-2008 11:16 AM

I don't think we have a Dress Barn around here, but I've solved the problem. I tried on the skirt with my compression shorts (which I got when I was FAT and had to wear to hold my tummy in!!) and I can zip the skirt almost, almost to the top and I just have to secure the waist band with a safety pin. I suppose I could also sew on a small swatch of cloth to the waist band and re-secure the hook and eye and that would work as well. But in my mind, the skirt WILL fit in a couple of months when we go on our cruise, so I don't want to do anything too permanent!!

I don't use the daily plate, I use fitday--but I have to admit it became such a chore to enter stuff that I've pretty much given it up. I know that isn't a good idea, but I have in my head what a healthy 250 calorie breakfast and 350 lunch is and how much I can consume for dinner as long as I look at the labels.

Congrats on running 5 miles!! I can only muster 1 mile at a time (and have never attempted more than 3 with a few intervals of walking mixed in).

Loveliam 05-15-2008 01:38 PM

Happy Thursday group :grouphug:

Kitegirl - a semester in Spain? That sounds beyond awesome.:beach:

Dagmar- I can understand how all the rules and regulations would put a huge damper on things. I prefer the government to be as hands-off as possible ;)

Iris- is this the graduation where you are meeting his parents?

Susan and walking2lose - glad you both are hanging in there!

Lekhika - leftovers day sounds brilliant in my book!

Paula - :bravo: hip, hip, hooray on your loss!!!!!!

Allison - Happy 20th Anniversary! That is so nice :)

Batmomm - the Daily Plate sounds cool. I have to log my food online at weight watchers. Logging everything does help!

I am doing pretty well today. I had a busy morning, but thankfully things have been calmer this afternoon :) I cannot walk because of the rain, so I danced around the living room for 1/2 an hour instead

I am also happy because I rediscovered my one of my diet favorites - a cocoa-banana shake that is only 3 Weight Watcher points plus gives me a serving of dairy and fruit and satisfies my sweet tooth. Oh and I was forced to go into Whole Foods (I try and avoid it because I love it, but it is so expensive) because it was right on my way home and *sigh* their fruits and veggies are so stunning compared to my normal supermarket. So I was forced to buy some fruits.

Kitegirl24 05-15-2008 02:36 PM

Loveliam/Iriswhispers - I'm actually going for the year (September-May) :) And my major is Spanish....I am also working towards a certificate/minor in Secondary Education so I can teach Spanish if I decide that is what I want to do. Yet another reason to stay healthy.....I will never be able to keep up with kids and teach all day if I am not in shape!

I am hoping to explore the city by jogging/walking when I am in Spain, since I would hate to lose my summer progress by eating too *much* delicious Spanish food and not excercising ;)

I also just remembered today that one of my good friend's sister's wedding is coming up at the end of June, so I am going to use that as my short-term goal to keep working out and eating well. I have this really cute yellow spring-y dress from Banana Republic that's too tight on me right now, but I REALLY want to wear it to the wedding! I wore it a while ago when I was still a tiny bit too chubby for it, and the seams stretched :( But we took it to the tailor and he fixed it...so the next time I wear it, I want it to fit perfectly! No more squeezing into clothes because they "almost" fit...

Mudpie 05-15-2008 05:43 PM

Logging the food/calories

I looked at some of the online food logs but I find a notebook and pen to do me just fine. I figure it all out in the morning and then try to stick to it.

Not doing so well at the moment :o. Using the head cold as an excuse but I suspect I'm just annoyed/feeling sorry for myself at having to work the first long weekend of the Canadian summer.

My dog sit usually happens in April and I didn't realize this long weekend came early this year. But money, money. Four clients have pulled dogs for a couple of weeks due to vacation and didn't bother to tell me in advance so my income is cut by about 25%. I sometimes wonder what they would do if their boss suddenly announced that they wouldn't be receiveing a paycheck for the next three weeks.

I need to stop sulking. But not just yet.

Dagmar (the angry eater)

batmomm2000 05-15-2008 09:04 PM

congrats Allison! I have used Fitday before but found to be truly accurate I had to add in so much of my own foods, then I used self's but kinda the same thing happened. I have found very few items not in daily plate, I mean down to the specific brand names.

iriswhispers 05-16-2008 12:03 AM

i've never stuck with any sites like the daily plate, although i really should put more effort into that. my problem has always been with cooking - i never really measure. so first of all for a stir fry i can't really say "1 cup broccoli" etc., plus entering all my ingredients separately really annoyed me.

loveliam - is this cocoa banana shake something you make? if so, i would love the recipe! yum! and dancing around my apartment is one of my favorite forms of exercise... =)

bf's graduation on saturday is when i'll be with his family, but i have met his parents before - i just looked kind of frumpy at the time (was wearing baggy clothes because we were outside all day and then stayed overnight at their house and slept in my sweats.). i also need to figure out something cute to wear (or splurge on a new outfit) for his graduation party on sunday. it's a BBQ so i need something casual, but then i'm going out to the bar with him and some friends in Philly afterwards so i want to look a little dressier for that.

kitegirl - wow, the year in spain sounds amazing! (as does the yellow dress. i've found some really nice things at banana republic)

dagmar - no more sulking that involves angry eating!! that's quite a pay cut so i won't say to stop sulking just yet but at least don't eat because of it! =)

srmb60 05-16-2008 05:55 AM

Morning!

Lekhika 05-16-2008 06:19 AM

loveliam
Yep. I try to avoid all those stores...Wegmans, WHole Foods and Trader Joes...you wind up paying so much money...and man if those food researchers haven't done their jobs. Everytime I do get sucked into the vortex that is those stores I come out dazed and confused and a cartful of expensive groceries! :p

Iriswhispers, allinel and batmomm
I too do much better with a pen and paper(like Dagmar). I always found fitday much too tedious and didn't keep up with that at all. Especially because I make largely Indian food and I would have to figure out everything to enter it. Plus I really enjoy doing my food journal.

Dagmar
Hang in there...I'm sorry you're feeling sucky.

SusanB

Hi!!

batmomm2000 05-16-2008 09:22 AM

(((Dagmar))) that blows! But Iris is right, don't punish yourself b/c of it!

Loveliam 05-16-2008 01:20 PM

Hello all! Are you ready for the weekend? I am looking forward to it :) Maybe I can unwind a bit tomorrow. I have had such a busy week!

Kitegirl - I bet Spain will be a great place to walk a lot - I think most European cities are. It all sounds divine to me. I am hoping to get back to Italy one of these days as I loved it soooooo much when I went :)

 Dagmar. I would also be angry if my employers had done that to me. Maybe you should have some sort of cancellation policy where if they cancel less than one week in advance or something they still have to pay a certain % of what you would have earned?

Iris- well, if you resemble your avatar pic, you are beautiful!!! So no need to worry about looking frumpy. But it sounds like you have a fun weekend planned.

Any big weekend plans, Susan?

Lekhika - Indian, you say? My would my DH love your cooking! He is an Indian food fanatic.

My big news for the day is: I lost 1.6lbs
:cb: :dancer::woohoo:

Okay, I realize that looks insane - but that is how excited I am :)

batmomm2000 05-16-2008 03:20 PM

way to go Leigh!!! That's awesome so enjoy the weekend!

srmb60 05-16-2008 03:33 PM

Plans? Only if it rains, then I can have my husband for a few things. If it's nice, he'll be roofing and I'm on my own.

Just now, I am soo tired. I'm going to nap until DH comes home and then we'll go to the gym.

Kitegirl24 05-16-2008 04:48 PM

Hope everyone's week is going well.....just got back from the gym! I saw some high school friends there - another reason I want to get in shape (so they say "Wow! She looks good!" not "Wow...she gained some weight!" ;)

I actually feel excited to work out tomorrow, since I am going alone and can do whatever I want. Since I missed 1 day of exercise this week, I'm going to try to make up for it this weekend and kick off next week on the right foot! I'm also going to try to stay out of my empty house and all the food in it...even though 90% of our food is healthy, there are still some things like chocolate and such for my dad to eat (his metabolism is 43242x faster than mine and my mom's though). Wish me luck! :)

walking2lose 05-16-2008 08:53 PM

Hey girls!

Just a quick check in to say that although I haven't exercised ALL week, I am going for a walk/run RIGHT NOW, even though it's 8pm. My legs feel so soft and mushy... ugh!

I am having a fairly large bridal shower luncheon here this weekend, which is partially why I've been so busy. We've been working hard on the house and yard - I have all my flowers and herbs planted (but still need to find lemon thyme which I use a lot), DH planted a large veggie garden, we stained the deck (again!), and powerwashed house. I am working on cleaning inside tonight. All of this is exercise, but not exactly the kind I need!!! I was scared to weigh today, but I'll face the music tomorrow.

Irish - have fun... sounds like a really fun weekend! Good luck getting a new outfit!

Lekhika - I LOVE trader joe's and for us it is so cheap (one of the main reasons for going there!). The milk and eggs at our TJs are both cheaper than any of the regular (not fancy) supermarkets. I bet maybe they are more expensive in certain parts of the country. Now Whole Foods is very expensive.

Anyway, you girls have a great night!

Robsia 05-17-2008 05:00 AM

Just poking my head in to say Hi, so Hi.

As far as logging food sites goes, I use Nutridiary. Like the others, you do have to enter a lot of your foods at first, but if, like me, you tend to eat the same meals regularly, once you have created a meal, it's a very simple procedure to add the same meal to your daily log. I have looked at FitDay but I find Nutridiary to be much more userfriendly. I have never looked at The Daily Plate.

gtg - babe is fusing

srmb60 05-17-2008 08:22 AM

Morning!

I remember Robsia from a while ago and it's sooo cute to hear her say the baby is fussing

If it keeps raining DH is going to take me to Costco ... apparently it's a big big store that's overwelmingly fabulous. Hopefully they have fabulous deals on lean grilling meats.

I should tackle my kitchen and bathrooms before someone calls the board of healthy :o. And if I tidied and rearrange my cabinets, DH could install my dishwasher!

walking2lose 05-17-2008 08:55 AM

Good morning, girls!

Welcome to all the new featherweights! I'm a little late on that, I think, but I haven't been posting much lately... welcome, anyway, and it's so nice to get the thread nice and chatty!

Ok, regarding the logging food discussion... I used fitday for about a year - it was last year, and I lost about 8 lbs. I feel totally off the wagon, and essentially gained all of it back over the fall/winter (07/08). I got serious again, but this time switched to dailyplate...

I like the options much better on dailyplate (once I got used to it). I had lots of custom foods entered in fitday, but I got so tired of entering a simple thing like chicken and finding everything from chicken feet to fried chicken beak -- but NO skinless chicken breast - yeah, I know it's there, but good lord, stuff can be hard to find on fitday!!!!

Anyhoo, a couple weeks ago when I was rolling along... exercising, staying OP, entering foods I got a 2 week badge from dailyplate. It was a cool eye opener because it made me realize I had never gone 14 days straight - always skipped a day here and there (bad!). During these few weeks, I was losing.

Well, as I've posted, I've had a bad week - not horrid eating, but not exactly OP either, and I haven't been logging food nor exercising. So, this morn. I got an email from Dailyplate basically kicking me in the a** and saying, "HELLO!!!! You were doing so great, what the heck happened to you???"

Frankly, I needed that, and I was glad they cared enough to kick my butt (I know I'm taking it way to personally ;) ), but for me, when I'm logging I'm much more inclined to be losing.

So, today is another recommit day - I have a super busy weekend with the shower and all, but I need to devote some time to ME... eating properly and within my losing range (I MUST POST TO KNOW THAT!!!!) and exercising.

Off I go for a walk/run, lest I get busy and run out of time to do it.

Ladies, let's have a healthy weekend... and please kick my butt a little :kickbutt: when I come here saying I'm too busy to do or do that. I WANT TO MEET MY GOAL and I know I need to step up to the plate and do it!!!!!

Be healthy!

Kitegirl24 05-17-2008 11:29 AM

Walking2lose - I actually have a bridal shower luncheon on Sunday to go to as well; will have to "watch it" as I'm sure there will be all sorts of goodies there....should be fun though! Good luck with yours!

Loveliam 05-17-2008 01:49 PM

Wow - you guys have been busy :)

Susan - so you have never been to Costco?

Kitegirl - I hope you have a good weekend with all your fitness plans and the shower you are attending.

walking2lose - oh I hope the shower is beautiful - you will have to let us know. That is cool about logging your food for 14 days.

Robsia- oh boy do I remember the fussy baby days

I began the day with a walk! Which is good. I am feeling a bit overly hungry today though - which I have come to realize means I could fall into a binge today, but I truly hope not. I went for Chinese food last night and was really great about my choices and portions.

I am debating whether to give myself a small, 5-lb reward or not. Normally I would, but I have to go check our account and see if I've gone a bit overboard with the spending this month - there were lots of unexpected gifts and stuff I had to buy this month and we also were in Mexico for our 6th anniversary the beginning of the month.

batmomm2000 05-17-2008 09:41 PM

just got back from a wedding, not much food and not very tasty so I guess that was good. I also managed to squeeze 5 miles in this morning so calories-wise I'm sitting pretty.

Leigh I hope you can find a way to reward yourself, even if it's not monetary. 5lbs is an awesome marker.

trailgroomer 05-18-2008 08:29 AM

another season...

Congrat's on eating well at the shower and weddings
it is the season - I think many people think it is only the nov. - dec-jan holidays that can do in a diet but late spring & summer showers, weddings and anniversaries can keep one dodging too!

I haven't budged a pound off in 3 weeks! I chart food & exercise and on paper it looks great - on me no change!

hope everyone has a fab sunday!

Loveliam 05-18-2008 08:43 AM

Thanks, Batmomm :) I will try and figure something out. 5 miles is awesome :) It has always been in the way, way back of my mind that I'd like to work up to power walking a 1/2 marathon and eventually a marathon.

Today, DH and I have a date brunch :) The sitter is coming to watch DS - so I researched some options for things I can order at brunch.

batmomm2000 05-18-2008 11:09 AM

mmmm brunch!! yum! Leigh, look into gallowalking. It's a run walk plan that people are very successful with in completing longer distances.

Trailgroomer, why not post your stuff here and maybe somebody will see something that you're overlooking??

I ran a 10k race today, my previous best time was 55:11 and today I got 54:34 so whoo hoo, I got a smidgen faster :D Off to coach my son's football and then start work on the tree fort...have a lovely day!

Mudpie 05-18-2008 05:40 PM

Dog and I are reading

We're just catching up on our periodicals :p and a book called "Verbal Judo" that DH kindly got out of the library for me. Interesting things about interpersonal communication. Very common sense but I just don't talk to that many people every day. Most of the dogs will not have much of a response to
"Is there anything else I can suggest or do to get your co-operation?" :dizzy:

The dog (Casey is his name) has a sore leg so we've been exercising in a rather limited way. I have all of the stuff I need to do the strength training here and I also now have an extra bit of time in the morning. Hope to be able to breathe properly by tomorrow and get some workouts in next week.

No scale so I'm just trying to eat what I eat at home. Except there are no extras or treats  here. The dog's people are both very stringent dieters now and I think that might benefit me this coming week.

I will go home for dinner only if DH is willing to cook it and, having 3 days off a week now, he better be willing!

Dagmar (SATC movie's coming!)

Loveliam 05-18-2008 07:22 PM

trailgroomer- sounds like the dreaded plateau :( I have heard others advise to change up your exercise a bit, and I am sure the others will have good advice.

Batmomm - Congratulations on getting a better run time!!! I've never heard of gallowalking - I will look it up online.

Dagmar- your posts always have me  I hope DH has a delectable meal awaiting you :hun:

Interestingly, today I have been doing very well and have a whole bunch of points left to use. I'm not sure how or why that happens sometimes, but I guess it is just par for the course.

Kitegirl24 05-18-2008 09:39 PM

Hey everyone! Guess what - I just weighed myself this evening and the scale said 118 (down 2lbs!). I'm not sure how accurate our scale is but I think it's safe to say I lost at least 1lb this week, which is good because although I was watching what I ate, I don't feel as though I deprived myself at all. I wasn't expecting a change at all when I stepped on the scale, since I indulged a bit today at the bridal shower (who can resist cookie cake and homemade goodies?) but I didn't let myself go as I would have done before.

Another thing I am happy about is getting up early this morning to work out; usually I sleep in on Sundays while my parents go to spinning class (my dad actually teaches it). I got up at 8am and was at the gym by 9, woohoo! :) After re-loading my mp3 player with some new music, I was ready to go, and my dad said he was really proud of me for going on my own and sticking to my plan.

Hope everyone's weekend went well - here's to a new week! Make it a good one! ;)
