Talking Men are funny - but we all know that

My DH accompanied me grocery shopping last night. All was well until we got to frozen foods. Having defrosted the freezer and with fall coming I decided to invest in some one portion "Blue Menu" microwave meals (I hear you all groaning but our schedules are crazy next week and I don't have time to cook anything until the one night we have dinner together) as well as some other things we like when lazy.

I was busily poking around in one freezer. Pulled my head out to ask DH something and CAUGHT HIM!! He was just HIDING the two litre container of ice cream he had quietly pulled out of another freezer in the bottom of our cart of otherwise healthy food.

I still had tears in my eyes at the checkout from laughing so hard.

Question Men are a bad influence - but we all know that

HELP! My DH is now seriously sabotaging my diet. I'd like to get your advice on how to handle this.

I'm doing very well and it shows. All of my fall clothes fit really well now and I've bought a couple of knit dresses (with appropriate "shaper" garments aka girdles in my mom's day) that look pretty good.

DH is now bringing home brownies one night, chocolate two nights, ice cream, beer, and chips last night, and tonite he wants to take me out to dinner (where he will insist I eat dessert).

I can fend him off most of the time by just having a bite of whatever he's into (his diet has gone down the drain). But I'm lost when he insists that we watch TV together. I cancelled the cable to try to get him off his butt but now he's renting everything he can get his hands on from the library.

I'm OK if the film is interesting but I start eating with the boring ones. Like last night. I undid two days worth of OP eating in an hour. If I try to leave and go read he says "you never pay attention to me any more".

Unfortunately most nights I'm too tired to do much of anything physical, like taking a walk, going out to a club, etc. I'm up for it on the weekend but not Mon. - Fri.

Any suggestions on how to deflect DH would be much appreciated.

Dagmar ... you get dressed and go to the fair with him. Praise the Lord the concession stands were closed. Watch the ambassador speeches, watch them auction pork carcasses and pies. Go home watch baseball until he falls asleep then change the channel to What Not to Wear ...
Now he's happily off playing in a ball tournament ... and we've had our 'date night'.
And I'm happily here alone to sort my fridge and kitchen, 3FC and go for a walk.

Hi everyone!

I'm sooo glad the weekend is here! Hooray! 4 days of teaching wiped me out.

I just caught up on reading here and cracked up about some of your 'wind' issues. I was great Tue, Wed, Thu at work, but then yesterday afternoon I really needed to 'wander off alone for a bit' (to quote Susan). Unfortunately, standing in a classroom in front of 25 teenagers does not allow one to wander off alone. Let's just say it was an uncomfortable afternoon! I traced it to the egg wrap I ate during planning period... I won't be having that next week!

Abby - great job on the loss this week!

Allison - looks like you are still doing great with your program. Your weight is really down!

Dagmar - I don't have good advice for you with DH. My DH is not at all a deliberate sabateour (sp?), but he isn't exactly my workout buddy either. He eats fairly healthfully, primarily because I do most of food preparation. When he buys groceries, he comes home with peanut m and ms, ice cream, chips -- and he has type one diabetes!! So I don't know what to tell you, except to be strong when dessert time comes tonight at dinner - I would just say I can't I am TOO FULL. Keep your NY trip in mind!!!!

Barbara - where are you? Does anyone know if Barbara is on vacation? Maybe she is just taking a 3FC break or maybe she is in the maintenance group now?

Ok, gals, have a healthy and happy Saturday!

Lightbulb Sorry dear, I'm full

Sometimes the answer is so obvious that I feel stupid for not seeing it myself. But that's what 3FC is about - sharing info and experience. Thanks!!

Yes Barbara seems to be away or lurking. Maybe there was a huge vegetable crop she suddenly had to harvest and process?

Happy Saturday ladies!

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday.

Dagmar - My DH sneaks junk in the grocery cart all the time. I don't know what to tell you about your DH. Mine is the same way. He gets really grouchy if there isn't any junk in the house so there is always junk in the house . I have just learned to ignore the junk, cause I know I can't have it and that's OK with me. Good idea just to say "Im full" and be done with it .

Susan B. - I actually miss my 'date nights'. DH has been gone alot of the summer (it's racing season ) so I have become a race widow (as we call ourselves). Fortunatly, he is in Chicago this weekend for the last race of the season, so he will be home the next 4-5 months and maybe we can catch up. It's funny when DH is around all the time they drive us crazy but when their away alot you kind of miss them. I'm sure I won't be saying the same thing in 4-5 months .

Claire - Back to school time, hey. My son-in-law is an english teacher for a High School in Pensacola, FL and my daughter is a school psychologist. This is his second year teaching and her first as a school psychologist. He's a big germophobe though. Says the kids keep spreading their germs everywhere and he keeps getting sick. He keeps a big bottle of the Germ-free hand lotion on his desk .

I've been pretty productive today. Got up early and cleaned my house from top to bottom, colored my hair , went to the grocery and did all my laundry. I even fixed a big pot of homemade Vegetable soup (low calorie and low fat) and it way pretty yummy .

Well better go for now. Where is Barbara, anyway? And I have'nt seen Ilene since I've been back either.

Check in with us girls!

Hi,

My DH is a Champ when it comes to keeping a fully stocked junk food pantry! He is kind enough to choose most of his stash to contain nuts--which I can't have. But there's a load of chips of every description to suit his every mood in the cupboard as well. AND he loves lame comedies on video...

Last night we watched a "Guy Comedy" [which actually turned out to be really funny] and I ate my carrots and grape tomatoes with fat free thousand island dip [1 Tablespoon]. He had Frito Scoops loaded with E-Z Cheeze and salsa.

So I can say it helped me to have my own snackies at hand when we were in front of the tube...

Today was my first day on Nutrisystem--2 decent meals so far. We'll see.

Enjoy your weekend!

I've tried that but I have that Dr. Strangelove hand that, independently of my brain, keeps slipping over to the Dorito bag parked on DH's "side" of the couch.

I'm just trying to avoid the TV altogether. It always seems to set me off into bored/binge mode. Old habits are really, really hard for me to break even though I know they're not good for me.

I am progressing though. Tried on my mid-rise tight size 8 jeans yesterday and just looked great in 'em . That is my motivation - feeling and looking great - and it's starting to mostly override the negative stuff.

I should have heeded Dagmar's warning about unhealthy food earlier this week. My innards are a mess this morning! And that reflects unkindly on the size of my belly. Ick, yuck.

I must smarten up ... I must smarten up!

Hello Everyone,

Had a bad week this week. My weight is up again. I think must have something to do with the fact that it was my 37th B-Day and celebrating all week. We topped the week off by going to Ruth Chris for dinner last night. I was good at first. Had a salad and the Sea Bass but it was the complimentary birthday brownie and the champagne that did me in. Oh well I will be back on track this week. There are no birthdays to use as an excuse.

Have a great week.

IMHO everyone gets to take their birthday off. And major holidays! And weddings! We can't be dieting every single day - we'd go MAD

But I now am able to take just the one day off dieting and get right back OP the next. I'm even going to try to sorta maintain on my vacation (although I did map out three chocolate stores in Manhattan )

Hi Everyone!

I've had a pretty exciting weekend so far...Friday night I went to visit a friend in Toronto, and we went to the Gardiner Museum for open pottery night - you pay about $10 and you can use a pottery wheel and as much clay as you want for about 2 hours! We went out for sushi afterwards, but I was pretty good I think...it wasn't an all you can eat place, so we shared some chicken terriyaki, salad, miso soup, and a few rolls. We also had a couple of pieces of tempura and one scoop of ice cream, which wasn't so good. The next day I went to Canada's wonderland for the first time ever...it was exciting! I didn't do toooooo badly food wise there either...I had a small souvlaki chicken breast, with salad and veggies. BUT I shared a funnel cake later on in the day (I'd never had one before!)...At night I went out to celebrate a friend's birthday...had dinner at "Le Papillion"...ate a spinich and mushroom crepe with chedder cheese. We went out for drinks after, but I was DDing, so I stuck with water (although I did have a couple of bites of cheese cake as well )

Cuppa - I did nutrisystem last summer, and lost 20 pounds relatively easily! Its a pretty good, well balanced program. I really liked the desserts they offered!

rswlchic - mmm I love Ruth's Chris. They have the best steak I've ever eaten in my life! Don't worry too much about it...birthdays are a time for celebrating!

Congrats to Dagmar on the successful jean shopping!

And sorry to hear about the abundance of sabotoging DHs out there!!!

Congrats to everyone who lost, and keep up the good work!!!!

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I am off to KY this week. I am staying at a full service hotel with a gym that has treadmills, bikes elipticals and free weights. No excuses this week for not working out. Hopefully the lbs I gained are just water weight and will come off quickly.

I am travelling alone this trip so no saboteuers(sp?) around. My mission is to stay away from the consierge lounge which has free everything.

Good evening everyone.

I had a pretty good day today. Actually I've had a good weekend. DH was out of town and I didn't eat out once. That's a big deal for me cause it's just easier getting take out than cooking for one . But I did'nt eat out. I almost caved this evening. I was set on getting a steak hogie with pizza sause and cheese from Dominos (804 calories ) tonight but I got busy and didn't want to take the time to run out so I just ate my homemade vegie soup and a 1/2 cheese sandwich. My fitday looks so much better than it would have .

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Good job abbyin!

Whew its been a busy couple of days for me...my eating has been okay....I think I need to wait until school settles down, and I really get into a routine. So far, things are crazy!!!!

The good news is, I'm back to 143. Yes...4 pounds above ticker weight...but at least I'm down 1 pound from the dreaded vacation weight.

I've been sticking to a mostly vegetarian/pesco-vegetarian diet lately...it helps that one of my good friends recently turned vegetarian. She read "The Ethics of What We Eat" by Peter Singer, and she couldn't eat meat after that. I'm reading it now...its a really interesting read so far! I recommend it!

Anyways, have a great day everyone!!!
