Featherweights Planning and Chat July 30 - Aug 5

August? Do you believe that!
Well, what'll we do this week? Something new? Same thing cuz it's workin' just fine? Big change? Little change? No change?

walking2lose 07-29-2007 10:18 PM

Susan, I love the pic of you playing hockey! Too cute!!!

Well, I didn't exercise today and used the beat up eye as an excuse. It really is nasty looking, and it kinda feels like my eyeball is bruised or something. There's a thick gel that has formed (I think eye is trying to heal itself) and vision is very blurry. If it's not better tomorrow, I'm going to see what the dr says. On a good note, food wise today was good, and I am almost finished organizing my guest bedroom.

srmb60 07-30-2007 07:56 AM

It's Bargoo's birthday :D

alinnell 07-30-2007 11:03 AM

Good morning!

My plan is working! I'm down 4.5 from my return from Hawaii. I kind of overdid it yesterday (Del Taco) and went up half a pound, but not to worry. Oh, yeah, we went to the movies and I got some Good & Plenty! DD and DS went to the concessions stand and I instructed her to buy just a little. She did good--I think I got less than a regular boxful (they serve it in sacks where you scoop however much you want). Anyway, I went about 450 calories higher than I should have, but my dinner was fabulous! It was a chile-rubbed steak with corn relish (gotta love Cooking Light!).

Clykk 07-30-2007 12:45 PM

Weigh in today!

Good news! I eliminated one pound from my bod! :woohoo:

I celebrated by having a Chai latte after my yoga class this morning. What a nice treat. I did not have one all week, so I felt it was a suitable reward. I have decided to keep it as a mini reward for each drop at w/i time. So, no more until then.

Allison 4.5 pounds! Wow! That was fast! Good work!!:cheer2:

walking2lose I'm confused. I thought it was Mudpie with the infected eye? I must have missed your story.

I have an infected finger myself that I am getting checked this afternoon. It is a mystery how that got started, but it has been getting worse instead of better over the past 5 days, so I figured it was time to get it looked at. Good luck with your eyes ladies!

I cut out Chai Lattes last week which I will continue and now I will add chewy bars to my list of foods to avoid.

alinnell 07-30-2007 01:27 PM

4.5 pounds in a little more than 2 weeks is just about right in the grand scheme of things. I really think I was a bit bloated, too. Now if I could just get back to ticker weight!!! I hope to by this time next week. GOTTA STAY OP!

3fcuser1058250 07-30-2007 01:44 PM

Hey  I've been MIA because DH, DS and I went away to Ottawa from Thursday to Saturday last week and then well I've been busy with just stuff  and not posting...

I'm biking a LOT and enjoying this nice weather...Food has been so-so, but I haven't gained weight but I haven't lost either :(

kaw 07-30-2007 02:44 PM

Morning, all. (I still have 28 minutes left in my morning, so I'm calling it that!)

I seem to be off kilter today. The Boy woke up late, which means we had to scurry out of the house. I usually join him for breakfast, but today I was too busy packing lunches, getting my gym stuff together, etc. When I got to work, I immediately had to move offices. (Long story.) When I sat down in my new office, my tummy was complaining too loudly to ignore. So, I polished off the majority of my lunch (carrots, grapes, some sliced turkey breast). Now all I have for my "real" lunch is a nectarine and 5 cherry tomatoes. Methinks I'll be hitting the convenience store for some cottage cheese, later.

Had a good workout yesterday. It was chest day at the gym, and my lifting went well. I can now do three sets of dips without assistance, i.e., body weight. Flat bench is coming along more slowly -- I'm lifting 115, but that's still at least 15 pounds down from where I was the last time I was in shape.

Anyhoo, after I lifted I hopped on the elliptical. Meant to just do 15 minutes, but got caught up in an article in the cheesy women's mag I was reading and before I knew it 23 minutes have gone by. I decided I might as well go to 30, then 35, then 40. I thought about polishing off the next quarter hour, but knew that DH would have dinner ready (he's a gem!); I *hate* it when I cook and he's late for dinner, so I try not to do it to him.

Here's to another week. Let's hope the scale decides to stop being so darned obstinate!

Kim

Whittlin 07-30-2007 03:05 PM

Happy birthday, bargoo, and great job on being so close to goal. Woo Hoo!

Susan just this morning, in a waiting room, I read my youngest the Arthur book, "Francine Believe It Or Not" about Arthur and friends playing street hockey! We then BOTH enjoyed your picture, of course! You look strong! Your legs look like you could make some quick moves, yep, yep.

((Carolyn)) Sorry you had to deal with those weird women. BTW, Mudpie was quoting walking2lose about the eye, so you did see it.

walking2lose, get thee to an opthalmologist.

Actually, yeah... ..."same thing 'cause it's working just fine". I want to take a little time to think and then make 2 more 7-day plans for August. Seems to work for me to have a week of

:nono: :cookie:  :jeno: :snooty:
no-white-flour seriousness

and then wait a week for the next. Looks like I'll end July a pound down and can look forward to more loss le's hope!

AquaWarlock 07-30-2007 04:11 PM

Hi all, sorry for falling off the radar again for a week, been busy so haven't had the time to catch up with 3FC.

Anyways, $@%!&! at yesterday. Was doing a 6-8 mile run, 3 miles in my left knee went out on me & I had to walk/hobble 3 miles back. Not fun. And it's still kinda painful to bend/straighten after a night of rest & icing. Trying to see if the doc can squeeze me in today.

In other not-so-good (but not so bad) news, my weight's been stagnating for the past week ~ but I have been a bit slacky with my exercise/diet (and not being able to do cardio at all for the next few days is not gonna help) but I am not too stressed about it, when I get vigilant again I'm sure I can shave those final #s off.

alinnell 07-30-2007 04:28 PM

aqua~so sorry to hear about the injury! Don't you carry a cell phone in case of emergencies? I fell a year or so ago and had to call my DH to have him come and rescue me (and the dogs). I didn't think I'd be able to walk back home--and it was less than a mile for me!

bargoo 07-30-2007 05:22 PM

Susan b and Whittlin thanks for noticing my birthday. My family took me out yesterday and I went way off plan, including a humongous piece of cake, however I didn't eat the whole thing.First time in my life I left cake on my plate. I am getting right back on plan and will not weigh for a week, that way I will not notice any damage I might have done.

stiebena 07-30-2007 07:44 PM

Hi Everybody!!! I have also been MIA for a few days...I went to AirVenture 2007 in Oshkosh Wisconsin for the weekend with my Dad and boyfriend. I had a fantastic time, although food could have been better.

I am a little frustrated with my progress. I know its my own fault...I've stalled with my weight loss efforts. I'll do really great one day, and then something will come up and I'll go off plan. I really wanted to do a two week challenge and finally get down to 140, but I blew it like 2 days in. On the positive side, I haven't gained any weight, so I guess I am maintaining. I still want to lose at least another 7 pounds though!!!!

Happy Birthday Bargoo! Good job with the cake! And don't worry about being off plan...its your birthday!

Claire - I hope your eye gets better soon!! My advice would be to see an eye doctor as soon as you can...you never know with eyes, so its probably better not to take any chances.

Aqua - sorry to hear about your knee...hope you recover soon!!!

Mudpie 07-30-2007 08:47 PM

Hey we're falling apart!

Eyes, knees, and I have a dandy sunburn :o. Billie (young lab I walk) very enthusiastically licked all of my sunscreen off on the way to the beach. Had no more in the car so spent the rest of the day (3 dog walks) quietly broiling in my tank top. I think that's why I got the "licking" ;)- I usuallly wear a tshirt in the car.

I'm finally back at home and trying to catch up on everything before going away this weekend for 4 days. Used my nifty new scale to weigh tomatoes and avocados for dinner this evening - it's great - does ounces or grams.

Will weigh myself tomorrow and see what's happened in the last 10 days.

bargoo :hb: and congrats on not eating the whole piece of cake.

Everyone else be careful out there and no more bobos.

Dagmar :flame:

walking2lose 07-30-2007 10:51 PM

Hi everyone,

Aqua - so sorry to hear about your knee blow out. Ouch. As for my eye, ya'll will be glad to know I did break down (at DH's insistence) and go to the doctor today. He put yellow drops in and gave it a thorough look over under black light. He said there seemed to be some very small scratches on the cornea but that my eye was healing itself. I am, however, supposed to go back Wed. if it's still (the eyeball - white part) swollen and irritated.

Enough of that - congrats to all the big losers this week! Allison, you seem to be on a roll! Bargoo - Happy B-day, and yes, great job not eating too much cake.

I did 2 Gillian Michaels dvds today (I usually do them in winter or when very short on time, but eye was still kind of sensitive to sun today). They kicked my butt!!!! Anyone ever do them? I did Maximize backside and Full Frontal.

Nic - glad you had fun in Wisconsin! You are right to be positive about not gaining. That in itself takes disciplined eating for me, so focus on what you've done well and do more of it. You'll be back in the losing game soon, I'm sure!

Gotta enter fitday... take care everyone

Clykk 07-30-2007 11:41 PM

A victorious day for me

I did real good today! I am pleased with myself. I was at a meeting today at a very small round table which was crammed full of JUNK food! Dark Chocolate Hershey Bars (already opened and out of the wrappers and even broken up for any of the 5 of us to eat. Just sitting in a bowl inches away from me!!!!!). I breathed in the smell of my FAVORITE chocolate for 1.5 hours and I did not eat any!!! But, it doesn't stop there. There was a jar of Planters Roasted Almonds, which one of the fellas actually put a couple on my paper in front of me, telling me they were good for me and to eat them. I politely declined, so he ate them. Then there was a bowl of little packages of trail mix which I also didn't eat. And finally there was another bowl of chocolate wafer cookies which...........I ALSO DID NOT EAT!!! I drank the water that was also supplied for the meeting. Do I rock or what!!!!!

And then, 2.5 hours later, I found myself in the ice cream parlour with my DS and DH after my DS's soccer game. AND I DID NOT HAVE ANY ICE CREAM WITH THEM!!!!!!!! What has gotten into me?!

Oh, and one more thing, I was at the doctor's today (he had to freeze my infected finger in order to relieve the pressure of the puss which was building with each day. The finger should begin to show improvement in a couple days if I keep it clean and take my antibiotics)...and had a chance to step on the scale there and I came in at 155 pounds! I am going to keep my ticker at 156 because my scale at home is saying that, but it felt good to know it was erring on the side of being too heavy, rather then the other way around.

walking2lose 07-30-2007 11:58 PM

Carolyn - Awesome job with the recent losses, and GOOD JOB resisting chocolate, nuts, and ICE CREAM! Your will power today is impressive. Also wanted to say sorry about the infected finger... not sure what's up with all of our injuries this week -- could it be the full moon?? :dizzy:

Mudpie 07-31-2007 05:46 AM

Catching up - you're a busy lot!

Great job Carolyn! I love that the guy was trying to force you to eat the almonds by saying they were "good" for you - they are in moderation but it should be your choice. And then the ice cream too! One healthy decision at a time and you made them all yesterday!

Aqua and walking2lose hope your injuries are getting better.

Nic Great job on the maintenance while away - it's hard to not gain when you haven't got control over the food but you did great!

Kaw That sounds like an awesome workout you did. I'm sure the scales will be kinder this week.

Wanta try out for the Leafs SusanB? You looked great out there.

Whittlin No white flour seriousness is working for you (LMAO at the smilies). Good luck with the August 7 day plans.

Dagmar :D:D:D

Mudpie 07-31-2007 05:54 AM

4 lbs lost

136 :dance::dance::dance:

:D :D :D

No TV - reading instead.
Indulgence one night - fruit and water the next day
Ignoring the  DH

That's the plan for August!

Dagmar :dancer::hat::twirly::woohoo:

P.S. sorry I have to get it all out here as DH is having real problems with his plan and I can't dance and sing in front of him. :p

stiebena 07-31-2007 07:58 AM

Good Morning!!!

It sounds like everybody is doing great right now!

Dagmar - first of all, I wanted to say WOW!!!! great job! 4 pounds in 10 days is just fantastic!!!! Only six more pounds to goal!

Carolyn - resisting CHOCOLATE????? and ICE CREAM??? That must have taken some serious will power. Way to go!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about the finger...I hope it gets better soon!

Claire - hey, thanks for all of the encouragement. I'm glad that you took that eye to a doctor...I hope it feels better soon! Good job on sticking to your exercise plan even though your eye is buggered up!

I think I did really good yesterday staying OP, even though I was pretty bummed out (nothing big, just coming up on TOM). One of my pet ratties was pretty sick last week with an abscess (we had to put one of my other babies down in January for the same reason) and I was really worried, but I'm happy to report that it is shrinking and has formed a scab. Hopefully this means she will recover!!!! *Knocks on Wood*

Hoping for another OP day today!

Goodluck everyone!

srmb60 07-31-2007 09:33 AM

I am being pretty lazy here this morning. Sometimes when I do this reading and rereading 3FC for a couple of hours, I come up with something 'thoughful' that I'd like to say or discuss.
Uh ... not today ... I got nuthin'.

walking2lose 07-31-2007 09:59 AM

Dagmar -- Congrats! Great loss... you are where I what to be, so your post is providing great encouragement to me. I was 139 at dr. office yesterday - after breakfast, but still. I am just kind of maintaining. Funny how hard I have to work to maintain and not gain.

alinnell 07-31-2007 11:46 AM

Congrats on everyone who is staying OP and losing! Best of luck to all those who are on the mend.

Today I'm at 145.5 for the 2nd day in a row which is amazing because DD wanted macaroni and cheese with chili on top for dinner last night. I over ate, too. I intended to have just a cup or so, but I filled my bowl. But to think that this used to be a meal we'd eat weekly--now we have it maybe once every 3 months! Yeah for healty eating!!!

Anyway, my plan is working. I'm down from the Hawaii high of (I think) 149. Just a couple more weeks of this and I should be back to ticker weight! Then it's all downhill. My plan today is very light because I forgot my morning snack (berries). My tummy is already rumbling, but I'll make it. I'm actually having a vegetarian day today. Dinner is some Cuban black bean patties with a pineapple rice (Cooking Light).

cuppajoe 07-31-2007 01:28 PM

Hey There...

Ooooo. Hurt my back Sunday picking up my Godson off the floor in the Church vestibule. Broke all the rules for safe lifting [he weighs 20# or so] and am paying for it!

Today was able to do my exercise bike, but don't want to do any weights until the pain is gone. Duh. So I'm at least planning my meals and bringing them to work so I can implement Barbara's schedule she so graciously shared with me last week.

No loss this week, but no gain either.

Mudpie--heckuva loss! I like your plan to do water and fruit after a day of indulgence!

Can't sit long...it still hurts. Good vibes to all.

cuppa

3fcuser1058250 07-31-2007 02:17 PM

Cuppa -- OUCH ... Back problems are no fun!!

Aqua -- DOUBLe ouchie on the knee pain

Get better soon both of you!!

Allison and Mudpie -- :high: Congrats on the weight loss :cp:

Carolyn -- A special :bravo: to you for resisting ALL those temptations!! For a WHOLE day at that!! OY you're my new hero

stiebena -- Hope your rattie gets better soon...

It's very hot here today, I'm hanging the sheets on the line and they are dry within 30-40 minutes... Made it to the gym this morning for legs but it was a lazy workout, I've lost a LOT of strength since I bike mostly these days, but I don't mind, in the fall I'll get back into it when I stop biking...

Have a great day everyone!! TTFN

canadian mom 07-31-2007 02:17 PM

This weekend was busy for me we tore down a wall and built closet so we could change our kids rooms. We put the 3 girls in 1 room and DS in a bigger room so we can put out his little people town. DD3 wants a big girl bed so now we have to get a couple set of bunk beds so they will fit. I wish she would stay in her toddler bed until shes 5 but she says shes a big girl now (turns 3 on Sunday). I hurt my wrist so I have not been able to lift weights but I have been going for walks.Last Night a friend came over and we went for a walk @ 11 last night.

Weight is at a stand still but I have been having ice cream everyday and a few ice caps a week so I think maintaning is good.lol

kaw 07-31-2007 02:29 PM

4 weeks down, ? to go...

I weighed in today, the first day of week 5. I posted a detailed report on the mini-goals board here. Short version is that I'm down 8.5 pounds and at least 5.5 inches. :woohoo:

Happy dance! :dancer:

The next couple of weeks will be tough: I'm facing a cross-country move and a 4-day conference in NYC in which exercise time and healthy food will be at a premium. I feel like I've got a great start and base from which to work, though. If my progress stalls in early August, well, there's always late August, September, October...

A happy Tuesday to everyone!

I wish only Hershey bars were available in the UK as I think it would solve my chocolate problem. One man's heaven is another's ****............it's the smell of those bars, yuck!

Well done though Clykk :D

I seem to be having a good day then a bad day. Brilliant day yesterday totally pants day today. I wonder why I repeatedly do this, seems an awful lot like self sabotage to me.

Well done Dagmar and Allison :carrot:

kaw 07-31-2007 06:44 PM

(Don't know why I'm posting this here. Maybe because 3fc has been such an important part of my days for the last month.)

My "up" morning came crashing down with the news that DH's grandmother passed away last night. She was kind and gentle to the end, and still sharp as a tack; her nearly 99-year old body just never recovered after a fall a couple of months ago. She died in her home of almost 75 years, with her three adult children at her side.

Rest in peace, Lottie. As you were loved in life, so too will you be missed in death.

Kim

alinnell 07-31-2007 07:12 PM

Oh, Kim, I'm so sorry for your loss. My employee took a couple days off to take care of a few things around her house and she just called to say her father died, so she'll need another day to sort things out. He's in Sweden, so she won't be going to the funeral, but her family wants her to make the decisions of what to do with his estate from over here. He, too, was in his 90's but in good health.

greatchoice 07-31-2007 07:26 PM

Wow! Good afternoon everyone. I haven't checked in for a few days and it took me quite awhile to read the rest of last week's thread and this week's so far.

Hope everyone is doing well getting back on track. I can't remember who it was who resisted the OPENED chocolate but all I can say is, you are way stronger than me :o

I was so busy last week driving back & forth to Costa Mesa 5 days!!! My son came in 2nd in the tournament (or as he likes to call it the last loser!). We were quite proud of him but of course he was not happy with his performance the last set (which he really should have won and "seemed" to have it sewn up!). He got a great trophy though.

We had 2 days rest (which for me meant lots of work since Saturdays and Sundays are not my days off) and then he started a new tournament in San Diego on Monday. His opponent didn't show up  so he won that match by default (I am so not a competitor! He was all bummed out because he didn't get to play, I would have said :woohoo: I won!). He played today and won 6-2, 6-3. One of my older sons went with us but we could barely see what was going on. He was on the 4th court over and there were only seats at the end of all the courts and you couldn't see through very well from anywhere else; on the 2nd set we thought the score was 5-4 and then they were shaking hands!!!

Cuppajoe-Not sure where you are in western Michigan but I went to high school in Saugatuck!

Talk to everyone later. Hope you all have a good week.

I'm sorry for your and your DH's loss. It sounds like she went in peace, surrounded by those she loved most in a home she created and in which she lived a very long time.

Be happy for yourself still Kim . You have made impressive accomplishments in the last 5 weeks.

What a busy, chatty thread today!:gossip:

Kim This is dedicated to your DH's Grandma. A beautiful song.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise to meet her.
May the wind be always at her back.
The sun shine warm upon her face.
The rains fall soft upon her fields.
And until you meet again,
May God hold her in the palm of His hand.

May the Lord bless her and keep her.
May the Lord cause His face to shine upon her.
And give her Peace.

Wow, three days into the week and I can barely keep up with all the injuries! Knees, backs, eyes, fingers and I can't remember what else--I hope everyone is recovering! It certainly sounds like you all are doing a great job staying on plan despite the injuries. My butt hurts, but it's the good kind of hurt that you get from a good workout (I guess my trainer had me do a bunch of butt exercises on Monday).

I am now in the second week of my chocolate covered espresso bean embargo. So far, I continue to resist them.

kaw--I'm so sorry to hear about your DH's grandmother.

bargoo--I'm a couple of days late but Happy Birthday! :celebrate: I'm always off-plan on my birthday. You are a stronger woman than me when it comes to cake, that's for sure.

clykk--great job resisting all the temptations at your meeting! :cp: I know I am a broken record on this, but why is that so many business functions are food orgies? Every business meeting I go to it feels like I am climbing Mt. Everest in terms of trying to not eat all the stuff they set out. Thank God for decaf coffee--I'd never make it through without it. :coffee:

cuppa--I'm so glad to hear that my info on when I eat has helped you! Ignore all that advice you hear about not eating after a certain hour; it is geared towards people who go to bed a lot earlier than we do. Also, my personal belief is that so long you stay within your calorie range for the day, it doesn't matter when you eat.

srmb60 08-01-2007 05:18 AM

Good morning and happy August everyone!

Happy August - no visit from fat fairy

Yes, Happy August! I am still 136 lbs today. Couldn't quite believe the number yesterday and was expecting a visit from the "magical fat fairy" to put those 4 lbs right back on while I slept. ;)

I've been reading a bunch of posts last night because I couldn't sleep(too irritated  at my father who managed to rile me up with just one call after being away for 2 months but that's a rant for Men - ARRRGGGHH). After a night's churning in my brain I kinda found an idea running through a lot of the posts.

It seems we aren't satisfied when we reach our goal (or get very close to it). For example, one day after reaching the lowest weight I've been in 3 years I'm already thinking I can maybe now get down to 125 lbs instead of the more realistic 130 I have on my ticker. :p

I think our society (most of us are North American or European I think) has instilled in us the idea that we always have to do more, lose more, reach for more, and change the goal almost immediately when we get there. We're not allowed to sit back for awhile and enjoy our victories.

So I'm going to enjoy being 136 lbs. for awhile. I'm still staying OP but I'm not going to obsess every day with the diet. If I have an ice cream I'm not going to immediately post my guilt here. I will come for support if I eat the whole container though;)

Cheers! Have a great August!

Dagmar

Does the fat fairy look like my cat who ate my cereal while I was in the shower?

I think that's part of it. Something else that's very important is the 'unknown'.
I'm going to pick some number out of thin air here ... so please be patient with me.
Someone who is 170 lbs may choose to lose 30 lbs. 140 is a nice normal sounding number. She really has no idea what 140 looks like on her frame, height etc. But when she gets there, she realizes that this isn't what she thought she'd look like at 140. She's still a little soft around the middle. Since she knows how to lose and a few pounds will probably do the trick ... she changes her goal to 134.
No harm done. This is a journey of discovery, right?

And there's also the comfort cushion. In order to stay at 134, she may find it in her best interest to get to 132 and keep a five pound 'cut off' point. At 137 she'll have to nip it in the bud ... get with the program ... to stay 'at goal'.

That was a bit rambling ... wasn't it?
