Featherweights Planning and Chat June 25-July 1

The first of July! How did that happen? Time goes by sooo swiftly these days.
You'd then think it'd be easier to stay on plan for a week???
What is your plan for this week?
Outdoor activities? The weather has been beautiful here.
And local produce? Yum!

srmb60 06-25-2007 10:32 AM

I was walking and realised that if I had to type July for the title of this thread, I'm not going to make my walking goal for June. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

alinnell 06-25-2007 10:34 AM

You know, at the beginning of the year (back when I really did weigh 139-140) I thought that if I were to stick to my diet, it would be mid to late June when I'd finally be at goal. Well, I obviously didn't stay OP because here I am at 144 an nowhere near goal.

But that's okay. I did stop the gain and I'm back on plan! This week has started out great and I'll see another loss--I just know it!!!!

Everyone have a wonderful day!

AquaWarlock 06-25-2007 11:41 AM

Ok, so I did a re-weigh on Sunday morning -- thinking that my 143, a.k.a. 1 pound lost, was a fluke--I turned up with 141.5!!! :D I'll be cautious with my ticker and move it to 142 for now, but wow - I'm closer to my current goal than I'd imagined.

Yesterday, one of my favorite local restaurants had a crab-fest special; yes, I indulged. A giant bowl of crab chowder (with half a crab inside the bowl) served with grilled cornbread & freshly grilled corn (I had half a piece of bread & one ear), followed by an open-face crab cake sandwich with cole slaw & macaroni salad, then all-you-can-eat Maryland Blue Crabs steamed with cajun spices (I think I had about 4-5 crabs, but they're relatively small and not super meaty), finished off with a tart plum shortcake. Since my reservation at the place was at 3:30p, I counted it as my "lunner" (my other meal of the day being a light breakfast of cereal & berries before my 7-mile run) so I don't think I veered way too off plan, and getting back on track today.

On a less happy note, I forgot to pack my lunch today, and my office pantry is running low on staples. But I know where to go to get a healthy lunch out, even if it costs a couple $$ more than what would've have packed and brought in.

Another thing I'm slightly antsy about - Mexican restaurant dinner with a friend tonight. I've checked out the restaurant Web site and I think I may go for the carne asada tacos or have an order of fajitas (boxing half of it home)--but it's still slightly irking to have to guesstimate calories (I've budgeted 900 calories for dinner -- guessing I can have 2 tacos @ 300 each and then some of the rice & beans sides, or the fajitas /w tortillas @ ~750).

Anyways, hope y'all are doing well this week! :)

Barb I occasionally check out fashion-geared sites & blogs, which frequently posts upcoming sample/designer sales (though 9 times out of 10 it's only women's apparel). Actually in LA there's another pretty big, both sex, sale coming up this weekend--can't wait to see what bargain designer finds I come up with.

BlueToBlue 06-25-2007 01:25 PM

I am on fire this week--not only is my weekly menu planned, but I've actually already made all my lunches! My lunch choices consist of either 1) chicken on polenta topped with an eggplant/tomato saute or 2) Baked Shrimp with Tomatoes and Chevre. Both are already made (except that I haven't cooked all the chicken), portioned out, and in the fridge ready to go. Dinner choices this week are Mexican Cod and Potato Stew (had it last night and will have it one more night), Pork Diane (one night), Garlic and Snap Pea Chicken Soup (leftover from last week, one night), and Chicken and Ham Roll-ups (two nights).

Unfortunately I have two off-plan meals that I can't avoid. Tonight I have a business function I need to attend and it is going to be particularly bad. It is at someone's house, so there won't be any choice in entres and the host tends to eat unhealthy foods. It sucks because I've been doing so well lately. Oh well, one meal is not going to blow all my progress. The other off-plan meal should better (at least I'll have choices as to what to eat).

In other exciting news, our pomegranate tree is setting fruit! So far we have five pomegranates. This is very exciting as last year (the first year we had the tree), we only got one mishapen pomegranite. Not sure what I'm going to do with the pomegranates though. I guess make pomegranate-guava jelly.

Aqua, that crab-fest sounds incredible! I love all those foods you described! Definitely worth the calories, in my opinion!

stiebena 06-25-2007 06:25 PM

Hi All!

The week is off to a good start for me, and I'm pleased to report that I lost almost 4 pounds last week! So far I'm very happy with my progress, which only gives me that much more motivation to reach my goal.

I always make my lunches the night before work, but this week its probably going to be a few slices of crisp bread, sliced turkey/LF chedder cheese, sliced celery and dip, and probably some form of fruit...thats my usual lunch anyways :) Dinners vary depending on what we pull out of the freezer! Probably a lot of pork/veggies/salad...maybe some roasted potatoes? I'm also aiming to keep my water consumption up...at LEAST two litres a day.

canadian mom 06-25-2007 07:03 PM

I am still at 130 but I am down inches since June 3rd. 1 inch just from my waist and 1/2 from my hips. My arms are finally even my right arm has always been smaller than my left.

 ... Too tired to post ... Later gaters

Mudpie 06-25-2007 08:32 PM

Weigh-in tomorrow after 2 weeks

Will it be  or :D ??

Only the scale knows for sure. My clothes feel a bit looser but that doesn't mean anything. As for the PLAN I made a kind of iced tea (without the ice)/energy drink hybrid last night to take with me instead of diet Pepsi. It turned out pretty well as far as taste - white jasmine tea, fresh mint from the herb pot, a bit of Splenda and a bit of sea salt. Oh, a bit too much sea salt - GAAAHHH! Will adjust the quantity in tonite's batch.

I think all the diet Pepsi is making me hungrier for sweets, bloated because of the carbonation and sodium, and also affecting my blood sugar with the :hyper: caffeine. I felt much more relaxed after today, despite punishing heat, where before I just felt drained after the day :faint:. Also didn't come home and eat everything in the house before dinner was on the table.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are everywhere in the markets here so it's easier to make healthy choices that I can also afford.

Dagmar

srmb60 06-26-2007 12:31 AM

What a nice thread to come home to. You all sound like you're doing wonderfully. That's good for me ... I'm only drinking water and don't need a snack ;)

Mudpie 06-26-2007 05:54 AM

Frass!

Been dying to use that. Up 1 lb. to 141.

No more unlimited quantities of fruit and salad and no second helpings of bread until I see under 140 lbs.! And no ice cream until I meet my mini goal! BLAARRGH!!

Dagmar

srmb60 06-26-2007 10:24 AM

Morning! Another good sleep.

Well, Dagmar, I don't like that smilie. What's up? Bread? Fruit? I don't think it's salad. I like Mel's notion about bathtubs full of greens.

alinnell 06-26-2007 10:43 AM

Dagmar~diet Pepsi gives me a sweet tooth, too.

Down another half pound.....still many to go! But I was perfectly on plan yesterday, well, except for the 3 pieces of licorice, but still well within my calories for the day. Time for another POP day!

Su-Bee 06-26-2007 11:16 AM

I went up over the weekend (knew I would), but Monday-to-Monday was still down 2 pounds. Another today for 146. . .so my goal is to be able to again, hit ticker by Friday. (If I follow last week's pattern, I can surpass that & actually move the ticker down a pound.) So although there are ups & downs, my overall trend is down.

Convoluted, I know - but it works for me!

srmb60 06-26-2007 11:34 AM

I wish more people would focus on the over all trends. Too many people panic over little bits gained. It's sad.

Whittlin 06-26-2007 12:00 PM

Yes, the middle of the year. Makes you think. What have you been able to accomplish in the past 6 mos, what do you want to accomplish in next.

Pomegranites have recently been found to be SOOOO good for us. So that's great, Barbara.

You asked about your day whether good or bad and I noticed there were no fruits and vegetables, michelinwoman, so my vote would be bad. Maybe you just didn't mention some. Anyway, gotta have 'em for efficient bodies! (also efficient weight loss)

stiebena, welcome.

Nice to realize you are evening up the arms, Canadian Mom.

I'll have to check and see what I've accomplished in 6 mos and see if any goals besides the 140 would be sensible to set.

BlueToBlue 06-26-2007 12:43 PM

Well my overall trend is downward right now! I get closer and closer to my goal, which is for my evening weight to be 115 or lower (which means my morning weight needs to be around 110). Today I hit 113.5, which I believe is the lowest I've weighed since I was a kid! :goodscale One more month and maybe I'll actually be at goal--how cool would that be?

Dagmar--I gotta agree with Susan, it's not the salad (unless unlimited salad also means unlimited quantities of dressing and salad toppings like nuts, cheese, croutons). I also don't believe it's the fruit either. But the bread and the ice cream...well those could be potential culprits.

There are so few calories in lettuce and salad veggies. I pretty much allow myself unlimited lettuce and once in a while I'll get freaked out that it is a problem, but then I remind myself that it is only 5 calories or less per ounce (which is a lot of lettuce). I cannot possibly eat enough lettuce for it to slow my weight loss. I'm also pretty fast and loose in terms of measuring my fruit.

ennay 06-26-2007 12:56 PM

I actually have more problems with fruit than anything else. So it could be fruit. Its not the calories in the fruit so much, but they send me off into major blood sugar spirals.. I dont measure fruit, but I have to be very careful how I eat it. I tend to gain when I eat fruit even if I THINK everything else is the same.

Also, if I eat bread and icecream I tend to be hyper aware of them so I am good with everything else, if I eat fruit it barely registers so I can overeat without realizing it.

cuppajoe 06-26-2007 02:23 PM

Here. Lost 1 pound for last week.

DH and I went out to photograph the house we're buying and I got caught in some of the photos. HOW on earth can I weigh 135# and still look SO bad? Looks like my rear is as big as the garage door I'm standing in front of!!!!!!!!!! Really, how much ROOM does 135# take up?

I am so bummed. And hungry.

Sheesh! Gotta getta grip! Back to the weight bench!!!:lifter:

Treighsie 06-26-2007 03:22 PM

:carrpt

My scale said 133.5 today!!!

Busy, hot hot day here! 7 kids and a hot sticky day!! oy!

canadian mom 06-26-2007 03:42 PM

the kids and I walked to the park and pool today well actually just 3 DD2 is at my moms. We walked throught the botanical gardens to and from the pool. We actually jogged part of thwe way and I mean my 10 and 4 and almost3 year olds jogged with me. The other joggers thought it was sooo cute and so did the bike police. They loved it "running " with mommy. My DD1 brought us back up on a path they took her on a field trip on....NEVER again it is a good hicking trail but not good for strollers. I ended up hurting my leg cause there are hills that are almost 90 degree angles with humongous roots and rocks throught them. I can say it wqas a good workout. lol

Susan I agree we need to be aware of the up and down trends but focus on the ovwerall trend (hopefully downward)

greatchoice 06-26-2007 04:42 PM

Hello everyone :D been awhile since I've posted here.

I was in Chicago for a week. I had a blast but my eating (and adult beverage drinking!) wasn't that great. I definitely could have done worse but I also could have done better!:o

I weight myself on Thursdays so I'll se how much damage I did (and can undo) in a couple of days.

I really agree with Susan that we should be trying to look at the big picture instead of the little ups and downs but sometimes I forget that ;) but all those little "downs" add up!

Ok, hope everyone is having a great day. Talk to you later. :goodvibes

hikerchick 06-26-2007 04:48 PM

Hi Feathers!

Its been awhile since I have posted. The heat here is turning me into an introvert. Many of you are so close to goal. I am happy to announce that I am too. So excited to be on the other side of 150 but for some strange reason my body image hasn't changed too much. Weird huh?

I have thought about changing my goal to 135 but I think I will conquer this goal first and then see how I feel. I am starting to feel a bit more slack so perhaps I will get to goal maintain for a few months and then reassess.

It is much better to be lighter in this heat. It doesn't bother me nearly as much.

Anyhow its been so long I wanted to pop in to say hi.

Mudpie 06-26-2007 07:35 PM

My frustrations are showing

My frustrations at what's going on in my business life are starting to affect everything else :tantrum:. That's what I'm really  at - not that I've gained a pound but that I'm potentially losing the business I've built up over 13 years because the City I live in is broke and sees me as a way to wring money from my clients.

I guess I should be glad that I've only gained one pound from stress eating instead of putting all five that I've lost back on.

And does anyone else feel super-fat if the scale goes up just a bit? I know I haven't perceptibly changed in size but suddenly I feel HUGE! Odd.

Dagmar :tired:

abbyin 06-26-2007 08:41 PM

I am doing so bad :tantrum:

It's like I have lost control or something  . I have been eating terribly for weeks and this has got to stop. I don't know how I haven't gained any weight but I'm sure it is going to catch up with me soon. I feel bloated all the time and I have got to get back on track.

Tomorrow I have got to get a grip. I was doing so well for the last 8 months and now I am eating all the crap I used to eat. I WILL eat healthy and stay on plan! :frypan:

srmb60 06-26-2007 11:57 PM

I seem to be nibbling my way into a higher calorie range this week ... hmmm ... I wonder if it would make any difference if I made a concerted effort to have a really good walk in the morning?

Mudpie 06-27-2007 05:36 AM

Diet/exercise are linked

Originally Posted by SusanB:

I find that exercise really did have an effect on my control over my eating. My job now is all the exercise I need but, when I was at a desk, I found that skipping the walk made me more prone to "skipping" the dieting too ;)

kateconfessional 06-27-2007 05:44 AM

today was a really good day! see, i'm an intern at this hotel, and we had our morning briefing, and all of my supervisors said i look like i'm losing weight, and that i look a lot better than when i first came in. felt really good to hear that.

it's so hard interning at all the restaurants in the hotel, my supervisors always offer me a taste of this dish, that dish, that piece of cake, or other dangerous food...but i can resist it, or treat myself once a week to a little bite! :)

weighing in this saturday , i'm a little nervous!

Treighsie 06-27-2007 07:53 AM

I need to stop noticing the "ups" and "downs" too. I weigh every day... yesterday it said 133.5, today 135.5. I couldn't possibly have gained 2 pounds yesterday... so I'm thinking today I will just drink more water and eat on points and exercise the best I can. What else can you do????

Jen, you have 4 DDs? I'm jealous! But then, my 10 year is old is enough to drive anyone insane. Gotta love her though!!!

srmb60 06-27-2007 09:26 AM

I weigh too often and I'm a shallow optimist. I change my ticker whenever there's a drop. Sooner or later ... I'll catch up.

Su-Bee 06-27-2007 09:35 AM

I change my ticker whenever I see a drop, too. Then I usually have a short bounce-back before making ticker & dropping below.

After moving my ticker last week, I went up over the weekend, and re-hit ticker today. That means I should be able to mark a loss by Friday - so my Friday-to-Friday will be down.

HOPEFULLY this means that even after what's bound to be an off-plan holiday weekend, my Monday-to-Monday will remain down, too!

alinnell 06-27-2007 11:01 AM

I was doing so well yesterday and then I had a piece of licorice which then turned into another 5 pieces (or was it 6?). The container said 3 pieces = 120 calories (which seems a bit high to me) so that's an extra couple of hundred calories which I DID NOT NEED!

The scale was up half a pound.

Da*& licorice!

Dagmar~yeah, I feel gross right now although my clothes still fit just fine. I notice a pound change (in either direction) just by the way my underwear fits. I notice it in my stomach.

canadian mom 06-27-2007 11:27 AM

I have 3 DDs (10,9,and 3 in August) and 1 DS (4) who is hoping his aunt has a boy in January so he will no longer be the only boy. Actuallly he asked me to have a baby but I told him aunt Amy's will have to do. lol

Su-Bee 06-27-2007 11:46 AM

Wow. . .I totally don't notice a one-pound fluctuation. Even 5-10 pounds. Only in the 20 pound range do I start developing tight clothes, etc. (This is why I have to rely on the scale and NOT my pants!)

Allison, don't sweat the licorice! Your half-pound will be gone by tomorrow. :)

If I am down again tomorrow. . .I don't know. . .I am starting to see visions of hitting 139 (even 139.8. . .) by my birthday. . .but I don't want to disappoint myself, esp. knowing the holiday weekend will kick me a bit off-track. . .we'll see!

cuppajoe 06-27-2007 11:54 AM

Hi,

Toughed it out yesterday, despite the being bummed. I actually ate decently--but didn't exercise.

Today I got on my bike first thing and got 30 min. done. Now I'm waiting for the house to cool off [the power was out until now and no air conditioning] and I'll go do my weight lifting.

I remind myself that there's exactly 28 days until my 50th [:fr:] Birthday and use it to keep myself fired up. It seems possible to drag myself into the 120's by then [it IS, after all, only 5 pounds away]. What a great present that would be!

keep going.................................cuppa

walking2lose 06-27-2007 12:14 PM

Hi there,

Been forever since I've posted on this thread. I've been super busy with end of school stuff, then summer stuff (couple of short mini trips and lots of time spent outdoors gardening, etc.), and just have not been spending a lot of time posting.

Anyway, I've maintained well and in the last 2 weeks, I'm down. Not a lot, but the trend for me is downward. I have more time to exercise, and I've been very conscientious with entering on fitday. So, all that is good!

It's absolutely broiling hot here today... I hope you all stay cool wherever you are. On the bright side, I sure do drink more water when it's hot like this!

ennay 06-27-2007 12:14 PM

I started out with a decent day despite the stress and it decended rapidly into a horrendous day.

I was STARVING at dinner, but I told myself no, I wont really be that hungry when food comes so order the 1/2 turkey sandwich and side salad, not the burger. Well, I was still starving so I ended up eating far more of my friend SweetPotato fries than if I had just gotten the burger and I was still hungry when I got home so I ended up making a bean burrito. SHould have just gotten the dang burger I was craving.

abbyin 06-27-2007 01:37 PM

Well today is going much better for me.

I had a good breakfast (1 boiled egg, 1/2 cup LF Cottage Cheese and a whole sliced tomato) and then went to the mall on my lunch hour and walked 30 min. and ate a healthy lunch (grilled chicken on a wheat bun and a small salad with FF dressing). I'm also drinking lots of water.

It's been awhile since I've been OP. Let's hope I can keep this up the rest of the day! :D

AquaWarlock 06-27-2007 01:52 PM

So I survived jury duty and didn't get summoned to a case -- and now I have canker sores to deal with, on opposite ends of the mouth no less, so it's not as if I can even try to chew on one side. (I tried dodging both sores with this morning's cereal... didn't work & owie!)

If it can be considered an upside, I am getting lower-than-normal caloric intake today (1,400) while eating some pretty delicious (but portion controlled, of course) foods like chocolate and pie. Not as happy about having to drink piping hot soup in summer!

srmb60 06-27-2007 01:55 PM

I am just not into food today. I made myself eat breakfast (oatmeal, cottage cheese and strawberries) at noon. My bag is stuffed with snacky stuff. Cheerios, cauliflower, broccoli, small cubes of cheese, a few slices of turkey ... I'm not sure what I'll do when everyone else sits down at a table for supper. It's too bad it's so blasted hot or I could take a walk.
