Featherweights Planning & Chat for Apr 23th-29th

Good Monday morning!
How did last week go? Anything upon which you can improve? I was on vacation so there's lots of room for improvement ;)

Today is the first shift of my new full-time position. I feel fairly optimistic about sorting my life around a sturdier schedule. Planning lunches, scheduling in exercise .... weights will be the trick for me. For some reason a walk seems relaxing but lifting weights when I'm tired from working ????

Hug your children. Warn them about speed and seatbelts and like Ilene says "Let's be careful out there".

ennay 04-23-2007 08:51 AM

Oh there is nothing about last week that couldnt be improved on, simply awful.

Did I miss something :?: EDIT: The whole of last weeks thread by the looks of it  Are seatbelts not law over there Suse?

Hello all! Last week was like Ennay's pretty darn awful! I had the bytch from **** ragging me in a car park, I was exhausted beyond belief and I didn't get any weights in whatsoever. :p

Today I am happy, rested, and the brain is in gear.

I have started Marathon Training! :D I ran a whole mile at lunch (It's 26 weeks away, a mile more a week and it should be un piece de gateau! :D ) My knee is doing ok considering....

I did some weighted ab stuff - the weights bit was being hogged by 4 men on ALL the benches and equipment and there was no room for little old me, so I will lift lots tomorrow when I can get in the weights bit earlier and when I don't need to run. :)

We had a really nice weekend, we were hiking on Saturday - I was leaping from boulder to boulder when we were gulley scrambling and I ran some mountain trails rather than just walking. :D

Yesterday we watched the London Marathon and had lunch out. We lazed around in bed for the rest of the afternoon and I made apple crumble! :T Delish!

KylieH 04-23-2007 10:18 AM

I can't tell you how happy I am to see last week gone! This week will be MUCH better. I've got a busy schedule, but it's all do-able. I'm seriously considering signing up for some personal training sessions. For the past couple of weeks, I've been wondering how close this old body could get to a fitness model's. (Hmmm...??) GRIN

hikerchick 04-23-2007 12:39 PM

Last week seemed okay.....

Still my little scale is not cooperating. Actually thanks to the body fat calculator I see that my percentages are down so I think I am indeed loosing a bit of fat. Still it tells me that my body fat is ridiculously high. I think I have just gotten out of the "obese" range and into the "overfat" range. Kind of unforgiving. Still those numbers are going down. Still I would love to see the total number smaller. It would give me more of a change at actually doing a pull up too which would be a bonus.

alinnell 04-23-2007 12:54 PM

Good morning everyone! I'm back from my convention and up a pound or so since leaving--but I thought I would be. Food was horrible! nothing but carbs for breakfast and very little protein all day long. Yuck! We did skip an evening shopping spree to go to dinner at a steakhouse (we were craving protein!). Anyway, 3 days off of work and I'm SWAMPED!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

BlueToBlue 04-23-2007 01:14 PM

I'm sick! I was sick all weekend and I'm still sick today. :tired: Possibly even feeling worse. Some sort of head cold. It used to be these things were predictably over in three days, but lately every illness I get is different. :dunno: Hopefully this one won't last as long as the last one.

I was planning to change things around this week since what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks clearly wasn't working. My plan was to reduce my cardio to just half an hour on T-Th and reduce my calories to 1200-1300. That's what I did for the first 20 lbs I lost, and those lbs came off pretty smoothly. It was only for the last 10 lbs, when I started increasing my exercise (and, consequently, needing to eat more) that I started having so much trouble. I'm on plan in terms of eating, which is a really good thing because I can't exercise while I feel this way (I'm feeling pretty good to be up off the couch :faint: ), so my exercise is down to nothing. Maybe I can try to go for a walk later.

Oh well, I guess there's always next week.

Mami 04-23-2007 03:01 PM

I am still in my plateau of 141. I never did get back to my ticker weight of 140, except one other time. Often I wait to change the ticker but I was so confident this time.. Oh well. My deficit is adding up to about 12.5 pounds (since I started logging the deficit 14 weeks ago) but I've only lost a total of 10. Up til now the deficit chart was so accurate! I'm trying to keep the faith that I'll have some big 2 pound weightloss for 2 weeks so my deficit catches up with pounds lost, like it was for the first 12 weeks. Ugh!

Good luck staying on plan everyone.

Blue to Blue, dont hurt yourself trying to take a walk if you're sick. You deserve a break.

Sodiumlightbaby 04-23-2007 03:04 PM

Hey all, thank goodness for a new week, my weekend was horrifying. Anyone ever have hagan dazs icecream, mayan chocolate. If you have, you know about my weekend.

Susan- What's your new job?

2frustrated- I admire you!

hikerchick- you've been doing a lot of exercise, I wouldn't be surprised if your trading fat for muscle.

alinnel- Welcome back

Barbara- You slay me, sick and worried about exercise, wish I had your dedication. Get well soon!

Well, back to 1400 cal. a day and I'm going to try to pump up the exercise.

Dana

BlueToBlue 04-23-2007 04:05 PM

It's not so much dedication as it is being a control freak. :tantrum: It drives me  when stuff that I can't control, like being sick, forces me off plan. It's one thing when I go off plan because I made a decision to do that, but I hate the stuff that I can't control. Plus, I know from other times when I've had to take a break from my exercise program that you lose it so quickly and it is such a struggle to get it back... I am not looking forward to that first day back in the gym. :woops: And the longer I am out, the harder it will be.

And really, I was thinking of a short, leisurely walk around the neighborhood, nothing that would even get my heart rate up. Just something to get me off the couch and out of the house. I can see that the sun in shining :sunny: and it looks like a nice day; it might be nice. It's just a head cold, I'm not on my deathbed or anything. A little bit of exercise is good for a head cold. But work is quickly spinning out of control and I'm not sure I'm going to have time.

SusanB, I just read your posts in last week's thread and I'm so sorry to hear about your boss's son.

YuppieGirlie 04-23-2007 04:11 PM

2frustrated: Marathon running - WOW!!!

Barbara: Hang in there. I've had to miss swing dancing since last Tuesday and have not been able to exercise at all this week b/c of fluid in my lungs. Tonight will be my first day back at water aerobics. I know how you feel (((HUGS)))

My good news: had an annual exam today (so fun let me tell you - ugh) but they weighed me and I've lost six pounds since september when they last weighed me.

That's awesome, because I was not trying to lose any more weight between September and about one month ago, I had exceeded my original goal at the time of 155- so basically I lost those six pounds in the last month.:carrot:

I only have another ten to lose according to their scale, until I'm in a normal healthy height/weight range, which is awesome. I'm going to go 5 lbs under that, so I have a bit of a cushion and then see what things look like. They felt that 125 may be too small for me, and to get to 135 and assess. So; I've moved my goal to 130.

I'm looking forward to this week - the scale has really been starting to move. Today I saw the lowest number on my home scale ever!

michelinwoman 04-23-2007 04:40 PM

Something interesting. I logged everything I ate the other day and was within my calorie range of 1600. When I looked up my points on Weight Watchers I was way over the recommended daily points! Maybe I need to try a point system instead of calories. Maybe it is just time to joint WW instead of being a cheap-o and trying to create my own program :)

Dawnslight 04-23-2007 04:52 PM

I am so glad last week is over with. Maybe this week I'll get off my behind and actually try to lose weight. I do have to say this much, I'm just glad I didn't gain. If I can't lose what I've got than it's better to stay where I'm at.

greatchoice 04-23-2007 05:28 PM

Good afternoon everyone. I've not been in here for a while. No real reason, just working a lot.

My best friend moved to Connecticut (sp?) for 3 years and she is in town for a few days so we went shopping and out to lunch today. We had a great time and some very good bloody marys at lunch.

I've been doing fine with eating & exercising. I just stay the same but I don't really feel like eating less or exercising more at this point so I'm fine with maintaining.

It's been raining here the last few days but today it is pretty nice out, just a little chilly (by my standards anyway ;) ).

Ok, gotta run. Hope everyone has a very successful week. Jane

Mami 04-23-2007 06:16 PM

Hey ladies, like every other monday back to work I didn't have much of an appetite. That is such a blessing I must tell you, though sometimes I get so hungry I get that sickly nateaous feeling. Not to change the subject but I'm quite a good speller and I cannot spell that word though I tried a bunch of different combinations (help). Strange..!

I'm pretty easy on myself; sort of the opposite of Barbara. If I'm not feeling well then I'll definitely HAVE to forego the gym . But you go B!

SusanB, did you just change from changeable shifts to regular or something? Good luck on your new job!

Michelinwoman, that is an odd result but I know WW assigns higher points to certain types of foods despite maybe having the same number of calories per portion (like say a bagel vs a salad). They did just had that article on MSNBC or somewhere like that and it was also posted on 3FC about how high glycemic versus low glycemic diets had no impact on weightloss -- it really was cals v. cals out. On the other hand, the people I've met who've done WW have really done well on it so there's definitely something to be said about that.

Allison, that extra pound is probably just some water weight from the nice glass of wine at the convetion .

Yuppiegirlie, I can't believe how much weight you've lost already. And then this added loss past your goal! Astounding. You must be feeling great these days. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET WOMAN!? Don't leave us out .

Hikerchick, not only have I been on a plateau but my body fat % seemed to increase by .3. I'm glad yours was actually down.

Sodiumlightbaby, thanks for the haggen dazs suggestion..perhaps I'll give it a try on my next binge .

Dawnslight and ennay, join the "doing bad" club. How'd you do today? So far so good for me. I'll try being accountable to you ladies and see how well I do. Of course nothing like that ever works for me..I'll fess up but will still over eat if I feel like it. No will power whatsoever!

Kylie, do you have any experience working out with weights? Getting a trainer is a great idea to learn stuff and get motivated (especially when you're paying..can't stand the trainer up now can ya).

2frustrated, I've been admiring your workout routine for months :cp:. You are hard core woman! If I do about 1/2 what you do at the gym I'm feeling good about myself. My routine (which I've done for about 7 or 8 months out of the year for the past almost 15 years, since 1993) is an easy (lazy?) 30 minutes 2 to 3 (but usually 2) times per week. I'll do 2 chest (I'm up to 35 lbs in each hand for the presses), 2 or 3 shoulder, 1 tri, 2 leg, plus some abs; the next time I'll do 2 back, 2 or 3 shoulder, biceps, and maybe 1 leg plus some abs. Rather than doing a bunch of sets, I do 2 sets of 12 to 15 reps of each exercise with fairly heavyish weights. I just got a gym quality home elliptical so I've been using that a lot lately as well.

Hi greatchoice

Donut, if you're lurking, check in and let us know how things have been going!

Good evening everyone :)

alinnell 04-23-2007 06:21 PM

Mami--yes, I did indulge a little at convention and I did have a few glasses of wine!!! I'll get back OP this week (as soon as I wake up--traveling makes me so tired!). Oh, and the word is nauseous!! LOL (Thankfully, my browser has spell check--I almost spelled it wrong myself!)

Mudpie 04-23-2007 08:04 PM

Tracker updates

:dunno: How often and with what kind of weight loss do all of you update your trackers? Despite all the stress with my cat I lost a pound and was wondering whether I should record that?

:D My cat is doing better so I'm trying to get back OP. All of the fattening things are gone from the house. My boyfriend has finally started his diet so that should make things easier too.

I think I'm going to try to write down everything I eat each day. I did that in the past and it helped me really see how many calories a day I was consuming. Plus :o when I have to record every single thing I eat in a binge it really makes me want to NOT do that again!

Cats tongue 04-23-2007 08:56 PM

Hey everyone

Wow I haven't been around in a while. Or posting anyway, I did do some lurking around last week...

So I've been at a loss with my weight loss plan. I just haven't felt up to the challenge of losing weight. I was working full time at Tim Horton's and not eating very well at all :o . Now I'm finished with work (for a bit!) but I still have a couple exams this week.

Since last week I've decided to begin completely on an intuitive eating plan. I'd like to eat small meals/snacks when I'm hungry and just really listen to my body's signals instead of just eating because it's a meal or I need a certain number of calories.

Exercise is on hold here for bit, I find it stressful to get in structured exercise when I have things like exams and stuff going on. That said if I'm feeling stressed from studying and exams exercise is the best stress buster. :D What can I say? It's a contradiction, but it works for me.

abbyin 04-23-2007 09:55 PM

DH wants to lose now, too

It was a beautiful weekend here in Indiana and DH gave me quite a few compliments this weekend. He kept calling me "Skinny Mini" all weekend. Now I know I haven't lost that much weight yet and I sure don't feel like a "Skinny Mini" but he told me he could really notice in my legs, waste and butt. He kept staring at me all weekend and well, it made me feel kinda sexy :o . I haven't felt that way for a long time and it sure felt good.

DH and I went out for dinner tonight and he skipped the appetizer. He loves his appetizers and I asked him why he didn't want one. He told me that he thinks he needs to lose a little weight too. So he wants me to start cooking light for the both of us.

I think this weight loss might me contagious! :D

KylieH 04-23-2007 10:04 PM

Hey, Mami!
I’ve been doing weights off and on for a number of years, but seriously for the past two months. I’m getting really excited actually seeing muscles. Who knew??? I’ve been using books to get exercises, but I think that some personal trainer time might be a good thing just to make sure that I’m doing the exercises right, etc. Have you used one before?

Hey, Mudpie! I’m so glad to hear that your cat is doing better! I worry relentlessly when my little beagle, who is currently stretched across my legs, is sick.

In terms of your question about the ticker...I move the bugger at the first sign of downward change! HA! If I wind up going back up, I wait a couple days and if it doesn’t go back down to the lower weight, then I move it back. It’s that honest streak in me.

srmb60 04-23-2007 11:57 PM

Good evening my dears!

Thanks for the condolences folks. It means a lot to me and I think DH is touched too :)

And the job? Full time. Days and evenings ... no nights. Benefits. Real live weekends off when they can't call me.

I change my counter if a loss lasts for more than one day. If I gain ... I change it ... after a while.

Mudpie ... about recording food intake. I watched that show about folks who eat over 30,000 cals in a day. They had noooo idea how much they ate. I didn't used to either. Yes, recording is a very good idea.

2frustrated 04-24-2007 03:59 AM

Well I taught my littlies and it was all good. I got home to no DH so crashed out with a book and started to get a little worried about 10pm. I tried his phone but it was out of signal so I thought he was maybe on the tube but I was still worried. I felt the need to eat, but I DIDN'T :D Then he rolls in at 11pm after I'm half asleep and I asked him where he was... He'd gone out bowling and yes he had told me, but probably last Thursday was the last time he mentioned it, so I completely forgot and got worried! :) Well at least I know where he is now!

I'm hungry this morning :dizzy: But I will go and make tea since I've already had an almost double breakfast!

:cp: Good job on resisting that urge. My big accomplishmen yesterday was managing to get my butt off the couch and went out for a 25 min walk. Not much, I know, but it's a start. Now if I could resist _my_ urge to those sugar loaded coffees. :D

Hello!

Hey Featherweights!

I'm new to this site & I've been looking at your thread for a couple of days & I'm not sure this is where I belong~~I'm currently at 143 (that's after a 9# loss), & I'm hoping to get to 120, so I have a little more that feathers to lose :), but I like your thread & think it sounds good for me. Y'all sound so grounded & encouraging. I'll be around more & checking in with y'all, looking forward to getting to know you :dizzy: .

Be strong today,
Liz

Mudpie 04-24-2007 08:04 AM

Hey mamajones!
Sounds like you have the right amount of feathers for this forum.

:welcome:

Dagmar

KylieH 04-24-2007 08:54 AM

Hey, Liz!

Welcome to the group!

ennay 04-24-2007 10:21 AM

morning - yesterday was quite a bit better, I ended up a teeny bit high, but it was more hunger related and not sabotagey

mudpie I change my ticker everytime there is a new low and it stays there until the next low unless i have had a solid week+ of significantly off plan

welcome liz

Whittlin 04-24-2007 10:47 AM

Ya'll be sure to share those compliments!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading abbyin's from her dh.

We need to hear about them!

A man in his 20s was checking out my purchases at cash register the other day and called me "Miss". Possibly not size-related, but I'm claiming it as a compliment for sure!

Nice to meet you, mamajones.

This week I'm really trying to make some meaningful diet changes. I think I've been gradually allowing myself a bit more splurging here and there and need to make a CLEAN SLATE/SWEEP. Often you can get away with it and still lose, so that's it's only an incentive, but NO ACCUMULATION allowed!!! So sweep, sweep, outta here!

So ... ... (drum roll) back to basics with no white flour products for the next 7 days. Sweeping the white stuff away. Also no sugar that's off-plan (recipes, okay - I really don't have time to redo those or search for special ingredients without sugar), so absolutely no colas and probably no desserts. Considering no potatoes. I need to get to the grocery for extra salad fixins.

ennay 04-24-2007 10:58 AM

whoops started off bad today - couldnt stomach my normal breakfast so I made a smoothie...dayum those calories add up fast

alinnell 04-24-2007 11:21 AM

I've been pretty much OP this week but no change in the weight. Not moving my ticker up though!!! It has to be temporary!!

As for changing my ticker--I'll move it down if I can sustain a loss for at least 2 days. When it creeps up, then I just work extra hard to get it back to ticker weight. Right now I'm 3 pounds above ticker weight.....yuck!

BlueToBlue 04-24-2007 01:36 PM

Kylie, I go to a personal trainer 3 times a week (when I'm not sick that is) and I love love love him! I consider it to be the number factor in my success. I work harder with him than I do on my own, we do all sorts of exercises that I would not do on my own, (stuff that I don't know how to do, wouldn't think to do, or where I want someone who knows what he's doing spotting me) every session is different, and it's way more interesting than working out on my own. The hour flies by. I definitely recommend it.

It's an absolute struggle to get a compliment out of my SO (he's just not very expressive). But once he said that he wished his clothes looked as good on him as mine look on me! Mind you, he doesn't have an ounce of fat anywhere on his body, but he is a little (well, a lot, actually) on the skinny side. I did have to pester him a bit to get this (despite his resistance to expressiveness, I require a lot of reassurance about my figure these days, so I do a lot of pestering), but even so, it was really nice to hear. :D

Still sick :tired: but feeling marginally better. But I'm not going to make it back to the gym today or even out for a walk, since work is going to be busy all day and I have a hair appointment this evening. Hair comes before exercise; you've got to have your priorities in order! I have high hopes for tomorrow though and the scale is finally fluctuating downward (after hitting a high number that I hadn't seen a year :fr: )!

hikerchick 04-24-2007 02:04 PM

Hi everyone!

Welcome Liz!

I hope you feel better soon Blue.

As for me I am feeling burnt out today. I am sure it is just a passing thing. I think I need a vacation. When you have little kids at home it is hard to feel like you ever really get a break.

Things have been okay. I've given up with not weighing myself and have decided to move my ticker. I'm so glad to see a figure that isn't 148 or 149 where I seem to have been stuck forever. Exercise is still rubbish though.

I was in a really good mood this morning cos of my new low weight but an incident at work has left me really deflated to be honest. A few of the women I work with were talking about weightloss and one of them said she thought I'd lost a bit. I've not told anyone at work I'm trying because in my experience it often leads to sabotage city. I said I had and tried to leave it but she pushed for numbers and I said "about 10 lbs since January". One of the other women just looked me up and down and said "that's quite a lot really, you'd think it'd show". I retorted that it obviously did as my other colleague had asked the intial question which shut her up but it really burst my bubble.

Hope everyone's well. Any updates on our missing/sick feline friends?

greatchoice 04-24-2007 03:45 PM

Good morning everyone. Just got back from manicure/pedicure. I love getting them done but I hate taking the time!

Doughnut-that is just pure jealousy  DO NOT let her get to you. You are doing great and will continue to do great and she'll still be....her ;)

I am absolutely freezing and I think I might be getting sick  A lot of people have been coming to work sick lately and I'm sure we just spread it back and forth. Unlike alot of jobs where you have your own desk we just get up to go home and someone has to sit down at our position and that goes on 24/7. I always wipe down with anti-bacterial wipes though so I do manage to stay relatively healthy.

Hope everyone has a great, healthy and OP day. Jane

Can I say it? Biatch.

Don't let her get you down. She must be horribly lonely--no one would want to be friends with her with all that jealousy going on.

michelinwoman 04-24-2007 04:44 PM

Claudia: cals in vs out sounds so easy doesn't it! Have you noticed that the latest "news buzz" is how dieting makes you fat because when weight is gained back you get a little extra each time. Such conflicting information all the time! Your pic (the bikini at the beach one) reminds me of my former self...I have a very similar pic (but I was about 20 and weighed 115!--pre-baby) I probably ate 2500 cals a day back then! Oh to be young and not have to worry about such things.......

No kidding..the last family vacation just about killed me too, a week preparing and a week to recover and all the normal crap while we were there.

I want more than anything else in the world 24 hours of zero responsibility--and that doesnt mean working like a donkey for 2 days ahead of time and after to make up for it.

OMG! I can't believe she said that! I agree with Ilene and Alinnell--Biatch and a half! I'm am sure she is just jealous and threatened by your weightloss. I am also sure, given your starting weight and height, that a 10 lb loss shows! A lot! Maybe you need a fabulous new outfit to show off your 10 lb loss. :D You are doing great!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I do seem to be on the road to recovery. Greatchoice, I hope you don't get sick. Take vitamin C (I get those Halls Defense sugar-free vitamin C lozenges and I'm convinced they help.)

Ennay and Hiker, I seriously do not know how all you folks with kids do it. Just thinking about taking care of kids tires me out.

mamajones 04-24-2007 05:36 PM

Ilene--Love the smiley banging the other on the head w/the frying pan! Fun how they can really be so expressive :). I'm a little text-******ed so I can't even figure out how to insert a smiley in my message! Sometimes the regular ones just show up, I know how they get there, but I could never get one in that was actually cute!

Anyway, I already feel comfortable here & thank you all for your welcomes...

I thrive on structure & feel really disjointed when things don't go how I plan, so today when I got up early, I walked around the block & had breakfast before anyone else was up (ahhh...peaceful quiet mornings, love em), but when I got my sons up, I realized one was sick & had to phone in to get him to the pediatrician. Off the the MD we go...nothing major, just typical pediatric road-bumps, but nonetheless, my baby is sick & therefore atypically irritable & my grand-master plan has been sidelined which makes me a little atypically irritable :). We were a pleasant lot today!(Dripping w/sarcasm)

Anyhoo, in the grand scheme of things, it was a good day & I have lots to be thankful for & am. However, I can't help but be a little green that I didn't spend my day in blissful "Ileneland" :). Y'know what I mean!

Doughnut--I agree w/everyone about the nasty comment by your co-worker~~she needs her mouth washed out w/Dial...can you tell I'm a mom? Anyhow, some folks say things w/out considering how hurtful they can be & those people are annoying, but some folks say things & just don't care how hurtful they can be & those folks are just toxic. Hopefully she'll go home tonight & quell her emptiness with a box of Oreos. Would serve her right, all that trans fat in one sitting~~

BluetoBlue--love your HL Hunt quote, I'm adopting it as my own mantra!

Have a good night!
