Featherweights Planning for Feb 4 to 11
Another week gals! How did last week go? Any good news? Any lightbulb moments? What's happening this week?
Later this week, I will be the mother of a 25 y o! Holy! How did that happen so quickly? I sincerely hope that the price of produce is better this week. $5 for a cauliflower! Whew! |
SusaB~I bought 1 tomato yesterday. Over $6. Yes, it was a special kind--heirloom. I've heard they're really tasty, so I thought I'd splurge.
Jen~sorry to hear your trip to France was canceled. It is a nice ferry ride over there (I did it years ago). I didn't get my Sunday morning walk in. I couldn't sleep and got up early and by the time DH got up, it was too late to get going. Perhaps I'll do it this afternoon before the big game. Go Bears! |
Well, my lightbulb moment last week was that I am not going to lose weight as fast as I'd like to! I'm off on a cruise in less than 2 weeks, and wanted to reach 133 by then. It's not happening!
But the other half of my aha! is that the weight will in fact come off, even if it's at glacial speed (oh, and the glaciers are going faster now, right, what with global warming? :dizzy: ). So I've been trying hard not to get discouraged (which would drive me to eat) but just to plug away at keeping the calories in moderation and getting in the workouts.:carrot: I've adjusted my ticker down one pound - I've been hovering here for 4 days or so - hopefully that will help remind me that persistence will eventually pay off!:D So my plan will be about 1200 cal per day, and five workouts this week. Wish me luck! And good luck and persistence to everyone! |
Hi all. Produce here is really high too, 6 dollars a pound for regular tomatoes, same price for cauliflower, it makes eating well really expensive.
Jen- We haven't gotton to know each other well but I just wanted to say I am sorry for the cancelation I will know fore warn everyone about my spelling, it's horiffic and I am well aware of it, Pretty bad for a straight A student but I'm sure it's readable. i don't as of yet know everybodies names so don't be offended that I am using you nik. Thistimeforreal- I admire your plan and persistence, wishing you all the luck in the world. Well, I was really disappointed when I got on the scale today and I had not lost a pound. I almost let myself get discouraged, I haven't budged in my weight for three weeks and it's depressing me. But I realize it is a call for action. I guess I have to start counting calories, so starting tomorrow, I will begin counting and aim for 1200 a day. I also went and go a gym membership today!! Yay! For one year, I start Thursday, but the only time I can make it is at am, so I am going to need some serious but kicking on Wed. Maybe you can help me out. Well, hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Dana |
i forgot to post my goals for the week.
\I would like to lost 1lb by Monday, go to the gym four times, drink 6 glasses of water a day and count my calories and try to stay at 1200. |
Dana -- Good for you for making a plan...
This week my plan is to stay on plan  ... I always exercise so that's not where my problem lies, I run 3 times/week, swim twice/week, and go to the gym 4-5times/week... My problem is food!! I even like too much of the good foods... So this week I will eat 5-6 meal/day at 3-4 hours interval, eat one portion of carb and protein... Drink my water too!! Today I ran 7.4k and swam for 40 minutes... Food was so-so because we went out for breakfast, I did order an eggwhite omelette though so that was a good thing... |
Hi everyone,
I am loving this site! I found the fitday site and I logged in everything I ate so far today. It was actually alot easier than I thought it would be. My goal is to just keep logging what I eat. It is amazing how well I eat when I have to write it all down. It also makes me eat enough. I am still nursing and if I don't eat enough I turn into "mommy monster". I think I need at least 1500 a day or I go berserk. So when its 3 o'clock and I think I am about to eat my children it must be because I am really actually starving so I little bit of tuna or some carrot sticks is probably a good idea. I am light on the excercise but I walk in hilly terrain every day and have started lifting the weights that were gathering dust in my closet. They sure have gotten heavier in the past year. I had better dust them off. |
Oops, I posted in the old thread!
I took my measurements - and even though I'm not seeing a very impressive change in the scales, my hard work must be working. In the past 3 weeks I've lost an inch off my breasts, an inch off my belly and 4cm (nearly 2 inches) off my bum. I've hurt my knee :( . I'm going to be gentle with it, but I think I might need some physio :( . Plus I almost broke my toe yesterday - ouch!!! I still did yoga last night, but was really careful with my movements. |
alinell, congratulations on losing the pound! That is great news - you must have really been right on your plan.
SusanB, I stood in the grocery with a cucumber in my hand trying to decide if I really cared enough to spend nearly $1 a piece!!! Of course, tomatoes and cukes are actually not even winter crops, so we're lucky we have them - cauliflower should be more reasonable. Hello, thistimeforreal, I'm new. So you have reached 136 (congrats) and have 2 weeks to lose 3 pounds to goal? Well, a pound a week is reasonable and a wonderful trip like that is an incentive that's HUGE. You might make it or come awfully close! Good luck! Dana, on Wednesday we can nag, for sure! Hope you like your new gym. Ilene, how great that you can swim so often. You really put in a lot of exercise time. Nice to meet you, hikerchick, I'm new. I think finding a new way to keep records gives us a boost. So, here's hoping your fitday records bring you success. My report for the past week was that I did get in my two-and-a-half hours of t-tapp workouts. I lost a pound and some of my measurements are down, so I'm very happy. My average weight loss actually went up a bit to 2.5 pounds a month, so I'm happy with my plan. This coming week, my goals are 80 ounces of water, trying for at least 5 fresh veggies a day, and my usual 3 workouts. |
 Hello all!
Oooh plan for this week - to get to the gym every week day, to tick the boxes for good food and to stick to my calorie alowance each day. I'm zig-zagging so there's no excuse for going over one day, since the next day is most likely to be a higher-calorie one :) |
Good morning everyone. The road to my work is closed! It's -16C, windy, snowing. I guess I'll have to stay home today ;)
DS walks to work about 3 blocks that way >>> . I can hardly wait for him to get home after seven and give us all the weather driving war stories he's heard all night. It makes me feel warm, safe and smart for staying home. I have a left-over shrimp ring and crunchy vegetables. It should be a good day. |
Aww shucks - you mean you can't go to work? Awww too bad, you'll just have to hole-up under the duvet :D Pass me a corner would you?
|
Well, it's an electric blanket and an antique chenille spread but you're welcome. We'll watch TV.
|
AAAARGGH! Scale today .6 lbs higher than yesterday! After eating well and working out! I feel like I'm getting nowhere! Can someone tell me this is normal?:?:
SusanB~enjoy your cozy day! Here in NS it's slight flurries and about -8C. Probably not cold enough to justify not shovelling later! 2frustrated~have you been zigzagging for a while now? I've been reading lately that it's really effective, but I haven't tried it. Whittlin~thanks for the congrats! I must remember even the small losses when I'm stuck like I am now. Unfortunately, 133 is not my ultimate goal, only my vacation mini-goal. I'd like to get to 125 at some point. And congrats to you for your successes last week and your plan for this week! pink pirate~sorry to hear about your injuries! Take care of yourself, but also enjoy your successes from last week! hikerchick~welcome! Ilene~your exercise regime leaves me breathless! And what's so-so about an egg-white omelet! Sounds very disciplined! sodiumlightbaby~welcome! I'm new here too. And I feel the same about the scale not budging! alinnell~so was the tomato good? There's nothing better than a truly good tomato! Hello to all other Featherweights as well! Have a great day! |
thistimeforreal -- YES it is normal to fluctuate like that, keep at it... It's not that the "eggwhite omelette" itself was so-so, just the rest of the breakfast where I had toast and butter and homefries ....
Today I have a plan and I'm sticking to it... Menu : - eggwhites and oatmeal - pp and oranges - veggie soup and tuna - cc and pineapples - veggie soup chicken Off to the gym to do legs in a few minutes :strong: .... |
I make a pot of soup every week in the winter time this week I made this one, it's delish and warm in this cold weather ...

I'm only just seriously getting back to zig-zagging, but the last time I stuck to it I was my lowest weight ever, so I'd say it was either the zig-zagging or the running that made me drop weight! :)
So this week is the first "structured zig-zag" week I've had in a while - I naturally zig-zag but the zigs tend to be a lot higher than the zags are low, so I end up about staying the same. I'll report in next week and I'll be able to tell you for definite! :) I've been to the gym this lunch, I feel glad I went and I sweated buckets but I've recovered so fast I don't feel like I worked hard enough  I did 10 sets of 3 @ 15kg benches, 10 sets of 3 at 50kg on the ab machine, then 15mins HIIT with jogging in most of my cool-down intervals and some stretching. But I feel about as rested as before I went! In fact I feel better because I was feeling all lazy and lethargic and now I feel nice. Oh well, I have to plan out my kickboxing lesson for tonight, methinks grading stuff. Methings scaring them with how many weeks are left till gradings  Methinks telling them they won't pass   Actually that's probably a bad idea. I should tell them they "need to practise" rather than they won't pass!  |
Well, I made my new version of my really good dip for the game yesterday. I substituted Morning Star Farms crumbles (a TVP product) for the sage sausage and used only 4 oz cream cheese with 4 oz Z Trim instead of 8 oz cream cheese. Everyone had had my original version and everyone liked the new version (saved 1000 calories and about 75 grams of fat). The only difference I found was that the TVP crumbles weren't as chewy as the sausage and they were smaller bites than the sausage so after the dip sat in the crock pot for an hour or so, it was more mixed looking. Kind of hard to explain. Anyway, everyone liked it!
I haven't had the tomato yet. It's sitting on the counter next to the bananas. I needs to get just a tad riper. Perhaps we'll have it tomorrow with the turkey burgers. I made homemade turkey soup for dinner last night and everyone liked that. Its getting warmer and warmer here, so soup season is almost over and salad season will be starting. That will be nice. I need to get more nighttime salads in--they really help me stay on track. Yesterday, I browsed through Cooking Light online and printed several recipes to try out over the next few weeks--some of which I'll incorporate the Z Trim into. I'm proud of myself. I didn't set my alarm, but I got up early and exercised! Weight is holding steady.... |
Good Morning,
I woke up nice and sore so I think I must have gotten the dust off those weights yesterday. I haven't counted calories in 20 years and I am really enjoying this for some strange reason. I thought it would just kill me. OK I'm only on day 2 so maybe the enthusiasm is premature but heck I might as well just enjoy it. Allison, I just noticed that you are in Southern California. You are not supposed to have to pay so much for produce. I hope that tomato is good. I don't usually buy tomatoes in winter but I sure love them. Heirloom tomatoes are usually very tasty. Enjoy! Susan, congrats on your son's 25th. Mine turned 9 last week. |

Over a pound, wow that's a super tomato.
I am jealous that you have farmer's markets in January. But though its too cold for that here I can't complain either. Hope all you folks with sub zero temps are staying warm. |
The farmers market isn't really a true farmers market. Every weekend, the local college has a swap meet that is very popular. There are a few booths where local farmers bring in stuff to sell. Not all of what they have is fresh, though. And I can't be certain that all of is it local grown, either. Some of the time, the things they have look like they were cast offs from what they sold to the grocers--quite sad looking! But they do have some good prices. I'd really rather drive down valley and go to the little roadside stores--now they have some nice produce and good deals, but it is so far to drive, and you can't be guaranteed that they'll have stock of anything that you need. I guess I am just to reliant on the grocery store!

Good morning everyone!
Yum, those recipes look lovely! I love soups - we often make up the soup in the morning, then sit the pot on top of the fire for the day. Since it's a low heat, the soup is ready at dinner time and the whole house smells amazing. 2frustrated, the zig zagging sounds really great! It's summer here, so my tomatoes are ripening in my garden - they smell *so* good, I can't WAIT to eat them! Yummmmm. I've got a busy day ahead of me - the school year here runs with the calender, so we're a week into the madness. The routine is starting to fall into place, but we're so busy! I'm not working today, so I'm going to do all those little jobs (like dusting) which are ignored when I'm busy. I keep on top of the bathrooms and floors, and I tidy everything every day, but I'm behind on my ironing. Ugh. Here's our timetable so far: Sunday - Church, plus I go to the gym Monday - I go to the gym (evening), DH goes to the gym (morning), and my 6 year old goes to Scouts Tuesday - I go to the gym, both boys have piano lessons, and my 9 year old has Scouts Wednesday - DH goes to the gym. Thursday - I go to the gym, both boys have swimming lessons. Friday - DH goes to the gym, both boys go to recreational gymnastics. Sometimes I go to a scrapbooking evening with girlfriends. Saturday - 9 year old has professional gymnastics. In winter they both also play soccer. Phew! Plus DH owns his own IT business and works extremely long hours (he came to bed at 4am this morning, and was up again at 6am - thankfully he doesn't do this often). I feel so tired sometimes! I try to do about 10 hours work a week for him so that it frees him for more important stuff, but I also work half time (I'm a teacher). When I write it down I think it's no wonder I feel overwhelmed sometimes! |
Wow! You guys and your exercising, I have no excuse, I have to try now. Well, this was my first day of counting calories and so far, and I don't eat past 6, I have managed 1400 calories, 200 past my goal, but not a bad start. I also started developing a work out program.
Hickerchick- Looks like we are both starting from the beginning. I used to work at a farmers market, I miss all that fresh produce, but my thighs don't miss the cheese! Well my daughter is demanding my attention! Dana |
Pink, you're a buzy buzy gal!!
I had an awesome leg workout this morning :strong: ... I worked this afternoon, pretty ho hum day ... Food was good... |
 Stuck to my low calories yesterday :) Must find some better proteiny goodness so that the low days aren't such a trial!
Got squats today :D and then I'm going to rack up some more HIIT and some kickboxing. :D Oooh and I found an offer in the paper for a free class at Gym Box to entice you into buying membership! I will just go to the free class! :D |
Morning! I was up wandering and couldn't resist one peek to see what everybody was up to ... But I am going back to bed!
It's leg so me today too! Later. |
Oooh what leggy things are you going to do? I've got squats and calf raises (using a barbel) and those one-legged squats on a bench. I might try tabata squats or I might do some HIIT running.
What are YOU going to do ;) |
I should have stayed awake. I had terrible dreams!
Tabata squats for sure. I should do calf raises and probably some floor stuff that I remember from Buns of Steel. |
Morning all...wow, I miss a day and two pages of postings already.
My goals for the week....to get enought sleep and eliminate the binge days and stay on track. I was just exhausted yesterday after not enough sleep, and when I'm tired, all control disappears....Ended up eating two bowls of nuts and oatbran plus an extra helping of that Italian Pie.....allison...was it you who recommended it? Found the recipe on line at Cooking Light and it came out great....even tho' I forgot I had it in the oven and left it there for 45 minutes. These cheese topping was almost black, and the lasagna noodles were crispy on top, but it was still delicious. The sauce is great....I had enough left over that I mixed it with beans and have been eating it for breakfast. Thanks for recommending it. Ilene, thanks for the soup recipe, will try it next week. Have been doing the Tabata squats every day along with watching the video....love squats! Susan B....I think of it being really cold here but you've got the true cold....I won't complain! Gotta run, work calls.....hope everyone has a good day. |
I feel quite proud of myself! I came in at 1405 calories yesterday! And I'm on plan for that or less today! I didn't exercise this morning, but perhaps this afternoon!
I've got to go to work for an hour or so this morning, then come home and wait for the TV guys to come and pick up our broken tv. We've been without our big screen for 9 weeks now. They fixed it last week ($800!) and now it isn't working again. It only worked while the tech was here! Aargh! |
I seemed to have a fridge full of one of these and a bit of that ... so I'm taking a page out of Ilene's book and stirrin' up a pot of soup for supper. It smells awsome! Fitday will be a nightmare!
Still snowing and blowing here but I think I saw a school bus this morning. I'm afraid of big TV's, maybe I just hear the bad stuff. Forgive me Artmaker Susan but I forget where you live. |
The soup does look delicious.
I realize that my biggest problem is I am the human noo noo (anyone with toddlers...its the big vaccuum cleaner on teletubbies who vacuums up all the tubby custard). The past few days I have been throwing away so much food that my kids don't eat. Its scary, no wonder I put on so much weight. I am almost less than starting out. I really don't consider myself starting out until I am back at my "normal" weight of 160. Kind of like going back in time. Then I can go back to my old normal weight of 150. And then I think I could still loose at least 5. Congrats Allison on the calories. I am at 1500 and it feels very comfortable. My goal right now is a pound or two a week for at least 3 months... Hmm that would be at least 12 lbs. If I can do 15 and that would bring me to 155. That would be excellent. Then I can really truly be a featherweight and start plucking away the last 10. Well I suppose the best laid plans. I think I can do it though. Why not? Tried those squats and all I have to say is ouch. I think I wil have to inch myself lower week by week. I just don't have the muscles for it even squating halfway is tough. I wish I had a gym nearby but I have a great wooded backyard to hike around in and a big log that I use as a step and I can bench press my daughter. She is about 30 lbs. I also have 5lb and 10lbs weights for excercises that don't work with a small child. I am a weakling so these are just fine for now. :carrot: I love the carrot. Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome here. |
Way to go Allison on keeping the calories down.
You guys are making me hungry with your soup! Hickerchick, I have a small daughter too, she just turned three. How old is yours and where do you find time to exercise! I just joined the gym and I am going to have to go at 6 am. My only option. Well, I stuck to my goal yesterday with water and managed not to eat after 6pm. So far, so good today, but it's still early. Where is this infamous soup recipe! |
My daughter is 2.
Its easy to find 5-10 minutes periodically to do weights. For cardio I do a really silly thing. My daughter was given a video about numbers with some seriouly retro 80s music. We put this on and I excercise to it. Told you it was silly. Her stoller has a flat and I take her out in is for 30 minutes a day when it doesn't rain. It is extraordinarily heavy to push her uphill. I am just getting back into a routine. It is hard with kids because they are so exhausting mentally that you have no energy to do anything physical. When my son was little I took him to a baseball field and we would play pretend baseball. I try to remember that a little activity is better than none. I wish I could do more but all in time. In a few years we will have much more time to ourselves. It goes so fast. |
LOL, hikerchick, "human noo noo"!! Too funny. I can just see that little vacuum cleaner fellow scooting around now. Yes, we do have to remind ourselves that no one ever said mommies had to clean their children's plates! We CAN toss that food and move on!
I love hearing about the great recipes here. Do you consider yourselves good cooks? I am truly not "called" to cooking, LOL, although I can follow a recipe pretty well. I don't seem to be naturally attuned to what goes well together, that sort of thing. Well, I guess I'll just step out and aggravate everyone by being a fuddy-duddy and say I think those squats are not in good form. The speed turns them into a jarring bounce so it's momentum that's carrying a lot of the movement through, and also the knees are being stressed, possibly the lower back if there's no time to reassess form while getting tired. At least consider s-l-o-w-i-n-g them down to a more deliberate movement, okay? I'll stop mothering everybody now. I got in a floor workout yesterday. Eating has been good except for that macaroni and cheese I made for the family last evening and wasn't going to eat! Oh well, it was delish comfort food for winter! |
You should see how bad my form gets! ;)
Noo noo's and fuddy duddy's ... hmmm ... we're getting to be an interesting crowd. |
I agree with the squats being bad form--you do bounce a lot. That's what many years of skiing did to my knees. Imagine bouncing like that all day as you ski down the mogul run! Slow and steady squats look much less menacing and much easier on the knees.
I do consider myself a good cook. I love to cook. I wish I had more time to do it. When the kids were small, it was a struggle as you have to devote so much time to them and not to the food, so I didn't cook as much then. Now that they are older and actually appreciate a good meal, it is starting to get fun again. I printed a couple dozen new recipes from Cooking Light and can't wait to try some of them. Thanks for the pats on the back!!! |
Warning rant involved ...
:tantrum: I am so pi$$ed off at myself! I'm not keeping my calories under control. At about 1700, I still want something. I'm half hearted about exercise (to say the least) for over a week now. I've got on a tank and jammies and there's this roll hanging out the middle. I even convinced poor DH to say it didn't matter to him.
I'm such a crappy example. The gal I'm helping at work is losing weight! I don't even know why I'm telling you guys (you poor things). Don't tell me I'm ok ... tell me I know better. Tell me that if I want to be an example of how good a late 40's can be ... I'd better get at it! Tell me that tomorrow I have to buy a bath tub full of greens and eat them! Tuna is on sale! Grrrr ... there you are ... just in case any of you thought I was a nice person ... I ain't. I'm a slouch ... who knows better .... |
Susan! I'm not very good at being not nice but you asked for it... Pick up that roll, grab a fork in the bathtub and buy some cheap tuna! No more excuses, your worth more then that! And you know it. Seriously, you guys inspire me, you've gotta stay on track so I have someone to look up too. No to mention 40 isn't that far away and I would love to have something to look forward to.
Hikerchick- Doesn't sound strange, that's the only way I get exercise around my daughter, I crank up the tunes and we dance for an hour, you take it where you can get it. The stroller worked well for me too, but know she wants to walk everywhere and 3 year olds walk slower then snails. I have done Yoga with her, but she is only good for the first 5 minutes then she trys to jump on my back for the rest of the time. I did well today, I'm proud, 1300 calories and 6 glasses of water, 2 more days till my first gym workout. I am slightly intimidated, it's a unisex gym and a lot of hardcore people work out there. Hopefully I won't look too stupid. Found the soup recipe, don't know how I missed it. Next shopping trip. Dana |
