Well girls, I'm back from dinner...and good news. I didn't get tempted. :dancer:

I figured out a plan ahead of time and stuck with it. I even ordered an appetizer to make myself feel like I was a part of the dining out experience. I ordered the tomato, mozzeralla and basil salad with light dressing, and I handed over the cheese to everyone else. Then I ordered a large salad as my meal. It wasn't nearly as good as that pizza, but I know in the end it was worth more than having pizza for one night. Your good wishes definitely came my way. And to top it all off...which will really show if I'm tempted or not, my friend (an my boss) was telling me how much she loved that pizza, too. I know we shouldn't show love with pizza, BUT since she's been going through a rough time lately, I ordered her a small for lunch tomorrow. I'll have to plan ahead to have a really yummy meal, so I don't give into temptation. Hopefully her step-son (I work out of her house on our events) will be around and will devour it before I even have a chance to second guess myself.

Smashin - Congrats on the weight loss! :bravo: I do a lot of work with television and dabble in films, and I understand the pressure. Luckily I work behind the camera, but I've seen it and can't even imagine it being on me that way. Good luck this week!

SouthernGal - there is a recipe on the recipe thread for oatmeal cookies. Personally I haven't tried it (not such a fan of oatmeal myself), but everyone has spoken highly of them. Maybe I'll have to try them out, so I can still have my milk and cookies treat.

Kara - :goodluck: Good Luck tomorrow! No matter what the scale says, just remember that you're headed in the right direction and making the right steps to be a healthier, more fabulous you. We're pulling for you!

Today I wasn't too hungry, so I know I didn't eat enough and have been running around like a nut. Tomorrow is a new day, and I'll be back on track

B - vanilla yogurt with oatmeal/granola (I know granola isn't on the detox, but it was a very oaty granola and I was running out the door!) and bananas
L - big bowl of steamed veggies with spices and an orange
S - carrots
D - tomato basil salad and a great big salad for dinner

I'm going to grab a snack tonight of something good, since I didn't eat too much today. It'll be something good, but definitely something on the plan.

We did GREAT today, girls! Good Luck tomorrow!

kara d bride2b 06-17-2008 08:43 PM

Annie I am sooo proud of you!!! :cp: I know how hard it is to resist Italian. Personally, that is one of my favorite cuisines, so I would've had a rough time too, but you had all of that great food and didn't succumb to the temptation-way to GO!!! Also, that's really sweet of you to get the pizza, and I know you'll be able to resist it again tomorrow. :)

I know how it is somedays not feeling like eating as much as others. I've found that my stomach has really shrunk while being on this diet. I used to be able to eat a LOT (hence the overweight-ness) but now, not so much. That feels good being able to get full on a breakfast where I used to would've eaten a lot more.

Anyway, have a great night ladies! I'm sure I'll be posting again before it's over, but if I don't--I'll let you know how much the scale tells me tomorrow! Thanks for your good wishes!!! :crossed:

taragettingthin 06-17-2008 10:56 PM

I'm at work right now...so I can't really read through your posts but will do so tomorrow. It's been going great so far. I "cheated" and weighed myself today and lost 1.4 lb since yesterday morning. It's probably water weight but i'm so excited already.

B: 1/2 cup oatmeal and blueberries
S: 1/2 cup fat free yogurt + blackberries
L: 1 cup brown rice, grilled tofu, kimchi
S: baked sweet potato
D: 1 cup brown rice, bunch of veggies, chickpeas, tofu, soysauce, hotsauce
S: strawberr+4 oz of fat free yogurt

For those who eat oatmeal... I know we are allowed 1 cup of oatmeal daily during the detox phase. I asked this before but... is it 1 cup of cooked oatmeal or 1 cup of uncooked oatmeal? (since 1 serving on the package is 1/2 cup of uncooked oatmeal.. i am little bit confused..)

Thank you!

kara d bride2b 06-18-2008 12:02 AM

Tara-I'm confused about that too, so I've been waiting to see if anyone else answered it. Right now I just eat 1 packet of instant oatmeal, but I don't think that is 1C of it either way, honestly. I know that it's scrumptious, though! :)

I might bump it up to 2 packets if I figure out the right measurement, I just didn't want to go over.

OK, so I ate the nastiest meal tonight that I've eaten so far-LOL. I had gotten some frozen veggies (they were the steam-in-bag kind) that had squash, zucchini, asparagus, carrots, onions) and I mixed them with my brown rice. They were really nasty. I think in the future I'm going to stick to seasoning my own veggies and steaming them in my steamer. That's how I cook my broccoli and it's always SO good. So now I'm starving because that was my dinner, and I wanted to eat it so it didn't go to waste, ya know?

We are going to our friends' house for dinner tomorrow night, and I just got off the phone with her. She's making chicken and rice casserole, and I asked her to make a side salad with no dressing so that I could eat that. I'm going to bring my own dressing, veggies, and some rice. I'm going now to read over the FS book to figure out what I can eat now that I'll be starting Phase 2 tomorrow!!! Wahoo!!!!

I have heard that a lot of people alternate between the two phases, and I was wondering how long they stay on Phase 2 before going back to Phase 1. Has anybody here done that??

Kara :-)

SouthernGal07 06-18-2008 03:25 AM

Tara & Kara (lol)- I think it's when you measure it uncooked, that would be my assumption. I've just been having the one serving and it's been filling me up pretty well.

Kara are you eating plain oatmeal? I know I read in the forum that we're not supposed to have the instant flavored stuff because of the sugar.

C Bo 06-18-2008 05:59 AM

I believe its 1 C cooked. 1 C uncooked seems like alot of oatmeal to me.

Annie, I'm so proud of you. 3 days down 6 more to go. Ladies, you have so much will power. I've declined all invitations of eating out until my detox is over. I know the temptation would be too great and I'd be afraid of giving in. My team at work ordered Chinese yesterday. I wanted it so bad. I fought the urge and went to the library to eat my lunch.

I walked for an hour yesterday evening. It was so hot but I felt good after. I wasn't even hungry. I can't believe my urge for coffee and diet pepsi is gone. I'm actually okay with drinking water. I wonder why the Crystal Light packs aren't allowed in phase 1. I do miss the lemonade and grape flavors.

Kara, I love broccoli too and good luck with your weigh in today!

Off to make my lunch for today!

janmot 06-18-2008 11:26 AM

New Buddy

I would love to join you. Today is my first day on the Fat Smash Diet so I would love to have the support of others on the diet as well. I have been reading the other post and I feel confident that this diet will work.;)

janmot 06-18-2008 11:29 AM

I want to join. I also just joined the 3FC so I may not do this correctly but I am sure I will get the hang of it.

janmot 06-18-2008 11:37 AM

Hello, I would love to join you. I just started the Fat Smash Diet today and so I have nothing to report as to weight loss but I feel great about making this decision. I am also new to this blog so I made a mistake and posted a reply to the wrong thread. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon. Anyway I look forward to visiting with you and the others as we melt away the fat.

Jan

HollieUA 06-18-2008 02:03 PM

Hey everyone I am on Day 3! So far things are going well! I had a couple cheats, but they were very small cheats! (1 slice of cheese and syrup in my oatmeal.) Today I am not going to have any cheats at all! So far, I have mainly ate just fruits, vegetables, and brown rice. I am waiting until the weekend to add yogurt and eggs. It will be my weekend treat I guess! The weekend is going to be hard for me to not cheat, though!

kara d bride2b 06-18-2008 03:52 PM

SouthernGal: Yes, I'm eating plain oatmeal. I just eat it in the packets because it's easier for me to make when I'm out and about instead of having to carry around ziplocs of oatmeal, ya know? I don't get any of the flavors though, just plain.

C Bo: that is awesome about your walking for an HOUR yesterday!! It is so hot outside, I can't imagine, but that is great!! And resisting the Chinese food, your willpower is strong too! Nice job! I'm lucky that I'm the librarian, so when all those people are eating whatever they want during the school year, I can just eat in the library-haha!

JanMot: Welcome! We always love to have new people here, and I love that our message board is growing in popularity!! Yay!!

HollieUA: You are doing great! Those minor slipups are still nothing compared to what eating would've been like on a normal basis, you know? Are you doing Fat Smash or Extreme Fat Smash?

Ok everybody, here's my update....I weighed in today and I lost 11.3 pounds!!!! :woohoo: I am so super excited. That gives me motivation to keep going. I know that this is working for me!!! I even had to change my avatar because it gives me motivation every time I see it!! :)

Have a great day, all! I know I'm going to!

annierew 06-18-2008 07:39 PM

Kara - YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited for you, not just for losing that much weight but for planning ahead with going out with your friend. We can't just hide out while we're on this plan. This plan teaches us how to make the right decisions, so we can go out in this world and still live. Yay for you!!!! And you only have a short way to go until you're in the 200's. How exciting is THAT?! You are SO on your way to being that hot mommasita bride!
:cheer3::cheer2::cheer2::cheer3::cheer2::cheer3::c heer2::cheer3::cheer2:

Janmot - :welcome: Give it a few more posts and then you'll get the hang of it!

Hollie UA - :welcome3: Don't you worry about any cheating...it could be WAY worse, right? You didn't binge, you didn't go off the plan, you just added a few more things. And you realized that you did it, and got back on board. I am concerned that you're not getting enough protein and dairy with what you posted. Hopefully you're getting lots of beans and are drinking that milk!

C Bo - Another day down! We're going to get through this, I know it! Every morning and before each meal I look at my starting picture (fat picture) to give me the strength to keep on going. I feel so much better about everything in life compared to what I felt like back then. I can see it in my eyes and the way I'm standing. I was so uncomfortable with myself and everything I did. I don't ever want to feel that way again. Life's too short to hate yourself.

Tara - As for the great oatmeal debate, I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but I read through phase I again last night and a few things I figured out. He does list when it says cooked, so I would say that it's uncooked -- which is a lot of oatmeal. The other thing I noticed was that he says that the list is all the things we are allowed to eat on the plan, but we shouldn't eat it all, just until we feel full. So, if 1cup cooked is too much for you, then only eat what you can. Hope that helps!

So...speaking of reading through the book again...was there another printing of this? When I first started last year, I bought the book and loved it. I lent it to my cousin, who never returned it, so when I decided to go full force again to lose my weight, I went out to buy another copy. I could have sworn that during detox we weren't allowed to have any cheese, but in the new book, it says that we can have a slice of low fat. Plus, it says that we can't have fruit on the bottom yogurt, which I don't remember seeing before. That's the only kind I like but I'm hoping since I eat the stonybrook organic, that it's okay, since they don't add any extra sugar to it. Plus, it's way less sugar than the Yoplait low fat without any fruit on the bottom. Any suggestions on this?

Today was a busy day. I was on the run all day. I had another interview for a job...so keep your fingers crossed! I really don't want to keep doing my freelancing, which gives me NO routine whatsoever. Here's my menu for today:

B - yogurt (with fruit on the bottom -- whoops! it's what I bought!)
L - big honking bowl of steamed veggies (I was in the mood for a hot lunch, so I filled the bowl with most of the salad stuff and steamed it.)
S - Fruit Salad: Watermelon, red and green grapes, blueberries
D - brown rice, light salad dressing, lots and lots of veggies

I'm still planning on having a snack later. I read someone tried freezing vanilla soy milk to be like an icecream, and since that's one of my favorites, I'm trying it out. I figured if it's not hte best, then I'll let it thaw a bit and add in some blueberries instead. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

UPDATE: I tried my frozen vanilla soy milk. It does taste like frozen milk with a little hint of vanilla, but I think if you're craving ice cream, this might do the trick. I had to have it melt a little bit, so I could get that creamy feel. At the store I saw there was "really vanilla" soy milk and a chocolate milk, but I didn't know if they were okay to have. Anyone have any thoughts on that one?

kara d bride2b 06-18-2008 09:48 PM

Thanks Annie!!! I know, I am so excited about being out of the 300s. And I am pretty darn sure that by my next weigh in, I'll be at at least 299. That is a mini-goal of mine. :D

Also, your menu sounds great!! I think I'm going to try the light salad dressing with the brown rice. I haven't done that yet. I'm steaming broccoli right now (my whole house stinks from it-LOL) I just love steamed broccoli, too bad it stinks up the house when I steam it, but oh well. It's a price I'm willing to pay :D

The soy milk sounds good. I have also been thinking about trying the vegan cheese. Has anybody tried that? I know we can have it because it's soy, but I didn't want to buy it without hearing something about it first.

I can't believe his book is so different!!! What a difference that 1 slice of cheese would've done on veggies this week, and I love fruit on the bottom yogurt!! Darnit! Maybe I'll get the new book.

Good to get an update, have a great night, all, and keep up the great work!!

SouthernGal07 06-19-2008 01:43 AM

So today I messed up. After seeing the burger king commercial for that loaded steakhouse burger I just had to have one. I ate it and didn't feel guilty until I looked up the nutrition facts (I should've done it before I ate it, but y'all know I'm special) and that dang burger has almost 1000 calories in it!!!! and I think 55g of fat!!!!! I wanted to go throw it up when I saw that. But all is well I am getting right back on plan I just got the burger no pop or french fries and I'm back to eating right and drinking my water.

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 02:40 AM

I know how you feel. And sometimes the best thing is to just get that fix so that it won't haunt you forever and make you miserable. You've done SO well, and you will get right back on track. You could have done much worse by getting fries and the soda, but you didn't. Like Annie has said before (I think it was her), sometimes when you are just craving that and have to have it, the best thing is to just do it, and get it over with. You've lost a great amount of weight so far and you'll get right back on track tomorrow and do just as well. No worries!!! But it is good that you posted this, because we are all human and we aren't all going to follow the plan to 100% every step of the way!!

:)

C Bo 06-19-2008 06:19 AM

Congratulations, Kara!!! You rock! :cb::broc::carrot:

Southern girl, just pick up from where you left off. Make sure to double your water intake today. This diet is a forgiving diet, remember? Yesterday I had a bite of my son's pizza but ya know what...OH WELL. I felt so bad I just went for a long walk. When I returned, my DH had cleaned up the kitchen and put away all evidence of pizza. We all mess up from time to time as we are human. Today is a new day and I will make certain to eat what I'm suppose to eat.

Annie, I do believe the book was revised. On page 22, it lists the foods that we are not allowed and it says "full fat cheese." I have been adding a small sprinkle of low fat feta cheese to my salads. You are allowed, on the new version, to have 1 1/2 slices of low fat cheese or a veggie burger.

BTW, we're almost there. I hope I can make it through the weekend. Today I am attending an Intern Luncheon that will be catered by Crispers and the summer interns did not order salads. I have been thinking of this all week. I'm going to need some willpower to get through the day.

Jan & Hollie - Welcome!

Yesterday, I had:

B: Oatmeal with blueberries
S: 1 pluot & 1 C light vanilla soy milk
L: Lima beans & salad topped w grn onions, steamed broc, feta & mandarian oranges
S: 4 oz. of vanilla yogurt & 10 cherries
D: brown rice stir fry with broc and onions
S: 1 bite of pizza :dizzy:

Yes, I was excited to see that and had my bf pick up some soy burger for me the other day. I think that's what I'm going to have today with my brown rice. :D :carrot:

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 04:03 PM

Thank you C Bo! You can make it through the weekend, I know you can! Just keep thinking about how good you will feel to make it through this Detox successfully, and you'll be able to do it. I know it will be hard at the luncheon, but maybe bring your own salad or something? That way it won't be AS hard to resist the temptation as it would if you didn't have anything with you to eat.

We ended up not being able to go over to my friend's house for dinner last night. :( Our ceiling was leaking because the guy above us was having a problem with his A/C. It got fixed, but we had to stay here while the A/C guy came and looked at our apartments, so that ruined dinner for us. Luckily, my friend is so sweet that she and her hubby drove over here and brought Ryan a tupperware with the food that she had cooked. It looked really good (chicken and rice casserole and corn). I could have eaten the corn if she hadn't cooked it in butter, but that's ok. I did what Annie had talked about for a while and it was delicious!! I mixed in my 3 TBSP of low-fat ranch dressing with my brown rice, some Northern (white) beans, and broccoli, and my goodness was it delicious. I don't know if I'll ever eat that rice any other way than with salad dressing. But I am going to try the salsa combo next, because that sounds really good too. Thanks for the tips, Annie!!!! That's what I love so much about this website, is that we can give each other healthy ideas of how to spice up the food we can eat.

Going to the grocery today once the rain lets up a little!! :)

Good luck, my friends!! :D We can all do it!

C Bo 06-19-2008 05:11 PM

Mix the dressing with how much beans and rice? Is it really that good? I'm going to try it but I can't imagine eating warm dressing. I need more dinner ideas.

Today, I ordered 2 excercise DVDs...Walk away the Pounds - 3 Miles & The biggest Loser DVD. I'm going to start using these in the morning and walking in the evening.

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 05:18 PM

Well since I had a very very busy day yesterday, I ate my 2C rice for dinner. I put 2C brown rice, 1 can of Northern beans, 3 TBSP low-fat Ranch, and some broccoli and mixed it around. I loved it, but it could just be my personal taste, you know? Usually I split my rice up between lunch and dinner, so I guess then I'd put less salad dressing. The dressing just gave it a creamy texture that I have been needing with the rice. Before I was just eating the plain rice with beans or veggies or both, and the creaminess was absent. So I liked it. Annie also talked about putting salsa and corn and black beans with her rice. I'm going to try that today. How can ya go wrong with a Tex-Mex style rice? Yummy....

That's awesome about the exercise DVDs. I have the one from Celebrity Fit Club-the one that Harvey made. I like it, it works you out hard. Let us know how the two you ordered are once you get them and try them out!!

Have a great day!! :)

janmot 06-19-2008 05:30 PM

Fellow Fat Smashers: Thanks for the warm welcome. I know with your help and support I'll do this. Yesterday was my first full day and I tried to get the exercise in too. Unfortunately, I could only last 15 minutes and I was pooped. Boy, it is amazing how out of shape we can get. I experienced the gassyness that you guys were talking about - what fun! Today, I am experiencing a really bad headache - is this normal?
B- Oatmeal w/ blueberries
Sn - Fruit
L - Salad w/ lots of vegies
Sn - Fruit
D - I mixed black beans and corn with chopped onions, bell peppers and a little celantro. Not bad - I thought I had brown rice but for some reason I have white instead so I skipped the rice.

Kara - Congrats on the weight loss - GREAT JOB!

CBo - You are already back on track and that is the important thing. Also, as long as you enjoyed your little cheat then you are OK.

Jan

janmot 06-19-2008 05:33 PM

Tara,
How do I add this weight loss tracker to my post? This looks awesome.

Jan

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 06:10 PM

Jan: I've found that the first few days I had a headache too. I think it's just the detoxing of your body. Just make sure you get all your water in, that can really help to make those headaches go away. The black bean mix sounds really really good. I think I'm going to get those ingredients and make that tonight....well, I'm trying something else tonight, but I'll try that tomorrow. :)

Congrats on getting off to a good start-you can do it!!!

BTW, you can't have a weight loss tracker until you are a member for 30 days. It stinks!! After you have been a member for 30 days you can add one...I haven't gotten to add one yet either and they are so cool looking!

Have a great day all! :)

janmot 06-19-2008 06:42 PM

Kara,
Thanks for the info about the tracker. :dizzy: Even though having a headache stinks knowing that I am in detox actually makes me feel better for some weird reason. I am trying to wait before I weigh myself but already I feel lighter - I know it is water loss (too many trips to the bathroom) but I'll take it.:o

Jan

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 08:13 PM

Jan,
You're quite welcome for the tracker information. I felt the same way you did about being in detox, strangely. That's also how I felt every time I refused to eat something that wasn't on the plan. And you probably have already lost some, mainly water weight, but that's great to know that you're not retaining all that water because you're eating healthy...that's how I felt about it, at least.

Hope you're having a good night! :)

Kara :-)

annierew 06-19-2008 08:35 PM

Hey, Ladies! Hope today went well for you all.

As for my rice recipe with the dressing, I don't use any dressing for the day and put our allotment into the rice. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE creamy food (one of the reasons that I'm where I'm at right now, huh?) so I knew I couldn't live without it. Plus, I found the best ranch dressing...hidden valley low fat ranch with sour cream. My goodness, you would never think it wasn't the real thing. I use that in my rice, and it's not bad warm. I was hestitant at first, but it works.

C Bo - I don't have a specific amount I mix with it, but I just add in corn and black and/or red beans, salsa and the dressing. Good luck with your videos. Can't wait to hear how they go!

Kara - Sorry to hear your plans got switched up, but good for you for not giving in to even just taste it. And I'm very glad that you liked my recipe. When I eat it I never feel like I'm on a diet.

Janmot - Don't worry if you can't last too long right now. Hey! You did 15 minutes longer than you did before you started, right? And with time, you'll be able to do even more. Don't get discouraged, since you're moving in the right direction. Soon enough, you'll be able to add your ticker and then show us how well the exercise paid off! Also, I found that I got headaches, too with detoxing, but I always blamed it on the lack of caffiene. I'm an addict with drinking diet cokes, so it was tough to overcome. I don't even want it anymore, and I doubt when we're allowed to have some again, that I'll even do it. It's not worth going back to that. But that's what I say now...give me a few more days ha!!!

Here's my meal plan today:
B - black cherry yogurt, banana
L - boca burger (vegan) with lettuce, tomato, black beans and pickles and sweet potato fries. (Everyone was planning on having hot dogs today, so I wanted to feel like I wasn't a weirdo, which didn't help anyways. The burger wasn't the best, but the sweet potato fries are ALWAYS great!)
S - fruit salad (grapes, blueberries & watermellon
D - brown rice, black beans, corn, a little hot sauce and a small amount of low fat ranch dressing to make it a bit creamy. Yummy!

kara d bride2b 06-19-2008 09:26 PM

Great job today Annie, and good to hear from you! Yeah, I'm really glad that I didn't give in to the food she made last night. Tonight my fiance' cooked his mom's recipe for Kielbasa that has cream of mushroom soup, rice, and muenster cheese with the sausage. OMG it looked so good while he was eating it-just a thick layer of melted cheese on top. I would say that's one of the worst temptations I've had since I started because I love cheesy rice, but I opted for the creamy rice that you make. I'm going to get that low-fat dressing, but you know...I think that might be exactly what I have in the fridge..if not, pretty close.

I thought I wouldn't want to drink diet cokes either, but I did pick some up, and some sprite zero. I had a question about that. I looked at the labels at the grocery today and the Diet Coke and Coke Zero are EXACTLY the same in nutritional value. Is Coke Zero ok? That's what we ended up getting, simply because I think it tastes better and it's the same in the nutrition label. I won't drink one til I get some advice from you guys. I won't drink very many but sometimes I'd just like something to drink with my meals besides water and low fat milk.

Have a good night, everyone!! :)

taragettingthin 06-20-2008 12:59 AM

Kara, congratulations on the loss! 11.3 lbs in 9 days! That's awesome! I keep cheating and sneak on my weights and I'm going to stop doing that because I know it can go up and down and up and down. Well, I'm almost done with day 4...so hopefully I will see some loss too. :)

janmot, When I was able to post the tracker, I wasn't a member for 30 days yet. But I did have more than 30 posts. If you have more than certain number of posts, it will still let you post signature, which is where you put the tracker at.

Annie, That's great that you found a new way to eat the rice with. I have a rice cooker and made about 5 cups of rice, and put them in ziplock bag and froze them. :D I have no problem eating rice as it is...mainly because I grew up on rice. :P If I couldn't have rice, that would have been really difficult for me but I guess because of the rice, it hasn't been that difficult.. although some sweet cookies and stuff would be nice.

kara d bride2b 06-20-2008 01:06 AM

Thanks Tara! I'm pretty darn happy about my weight loss!! But I'm even happier that I can go on to eat different foods now! :)

As for the tracker, I think it is something new that they are doing. Here is what it says under my User Profile:

"In an effort to help curb a recent problem with forum spam, new members will not be able to use the Signature option right away. This will take at least 30 days to appear in your UserCP, and you must also meet the minimum post requirement."

I've got 76 posts and it still hasn't let me add a signature because I just joined on June 8th or so.

As for the rice, I know that has really helped me not to cheat. And the oatmeal. I love being able to have something that is starchy, because that's my weakness. Without a starchy food I think it would've been a lot harder. But I looooove rice!!! :D

Have a good night, everybody!! :)

Another day down - whew! I deliberately started this diet while my husband was out of town so that I would not be tempted. He comes back tomorrow night and hopefully I won't cheat too much.
Annie - You are right about the exercise - I lasted 20 minutes today. Woohoo As for missing caffeine - I love my coffee in the morning and that has been hard to give up but since it has been sooooo hot here (Texas) it really hasn't been as hard as I thought.

Kara - If I read the book right we are not to have soda's at all in phase 1 but I don't know about the other phases.

Guys, I really like having this site to talk to each other for support. Knowing that I will discuss my eating and exercise for that day really is making me be more accountable.

Hi Jan!
Yes, we are not supposed to have any sodas in Phase 1. I am finished with Phase 1 and am 2 days into Phase 2, so I am allowed to have 2 diet sodas a day (if I want them--thus far I have had zero). I just don't feel that need to have soda anymore. It's pretty nice. I think I'll save that luxury for when I'm feeling tempted by something and need something that's like a "treat".

I know you'll do a great job when your hubby gets home-just let your willpower continue to be what it has been, and you'll be very happy with the results. Great job on lasting 20 minutes with the exercise!! It'll build up more and more each time--I know it did for me.

Annie, how was your day? Everybody else? Hope you are all doing great!!! Take care!

Today was a very frustrating day, but I didn't cheat and stuck with it, as difficult as that was. Hopefully this weekend won't be so hard, but I'm not so sure about that either. Tomorrow I'm invited to a luncheon for my best friend's mother's 60th birthday. Tomorrow night, I'm supposed to meet up with some friends for dinner, then Sunday I'm supposed to meet up with a friend for dinner. Wow, it sounds like I'm really popular, huh? Looks can be deceiving! ;) I'm really hoping to get in a workout or two this weekend, but since I've been totally unmotivated lately, we'll see how that one goes. Maybe I can convince someone to go for a hike Sunday morning. Who knows?

Here's my meals:
B- blueberry yogurt
S - fruit salad (I nibbled on it all day long)
L - large salad
D - egg white omlet with lots of veggies and salsa
S - huge bowl of corn with a glass of milk

Ahhh.. I just finished my night workout. I get to do this only during weekend so I try to do it when I can. Good bye day 5.. Hello Day 6. I'm almost there... I weighed today (I know i'm supposed to wait till the phase 1 is over but can't help being anxious..and curious) Well, I was 192.6 on the morning of Day 1. Down to 191.2 on Day 2. Then it was up and down and now I'm at 191.4. I was thinking I would lose little more than that by now, so I'm little bit disappointed in myself and wondering what it is. I haven't cheated once. I do work out at least 30 minutes every day...(which IS down from what I used to but then again, I know I'm eating less than what I used to...so...) Sigh...

I stayed home with my DD all day after getting her from the daycare at noon. Since now I have all kinds of fruits at home, I gave her some strawberries and cantaloupe for snack. Wow, she loved it..she wanted more and more and more. lol. And then she saw me eating left over grilled veggies, soy patty, and brown rice, and she wanted some. She ate grilled onion and grilled peppers no problem. I love this grilled veggies and I'm glad she's eating it with no problem. =)

By the way Annie, I saw that you had your omelet with salsa. Did you make it, or what kind of salsa do you use? Thanks! =)

At home I get newman's own natural salsa, since there is nothing added and are things on the plan. I can't say for sure that the stuff at the diner was all natural (and let's assume it's not), but I figured it was still a healthy alternative to cheese or ketchup or lots of table salt.

Also, I did read on a Q&A with Dr. Ian that the reason you're not supposed to weigh in until the end of the phase I was because your body is getting used to the changed and how it will process the new foods, so your weight will fluctuate for the first so many days and day nine will be what you lost through all this. So....when we all keep "cheating" by looking at the scale before then, it's really not helping us, since it's not necessarily accurate. But, I do know it's so hard. We just want to see what the results are before 9 days.

Hey, ladies :wave: I'm still with here. I have been on the go for the past 2 days so I dont think I've been eating every 3 hours like I'm suppose to. I went for a massage yesterday and ended up skipping lunch and eating a large dinner. When I'm hungry and cheating is on my mind, I drink 1 C of vanilla soy milk. I don't know what it is but after I drink it, I always feel satisfied... just wanted to share.

Yesterday, I had:
B: Berry smoothie
S: Mixed fruit
L: None :(
S: None :(
D: 1 1/2 C of brown rice, veggies and black beans
S: 1/2 grapfruit w 1 package of splenda

Back on schedule today. I actually woke up this morning and completed 30 minutes of my WW Get in Shape excercise DVD.

Annie, can you believe we're on day 6 already. We're more than half way through phase 1.

Tara, I did alot of research prior to beginning the FS diet. Its normal to not see weight any loss till day 10. Promise me that you'll stay off the scale.... push it under your bed so that you won't be tempted. It will only make you discouraged.

kara d bride2b 06-21-2008 03:30 PM

Annie: Sorry that you had a discouraging day yesterday-I hope that your day gets off to a better start today!! And I'm really hoping that you get the job that you're interviewing for on July 1st!!!

Tara: I know how hard it is not to weigh. What's funny is that my fiance' weighs me, but he won't tell me how much I weigh. I always try to get it out of him, but he won't budge. He just likes to see it. I'd love to see it too, but I know how hard I am on myself, and it's just not worth it. I'd much rather see that big 11 pound loss at the end than look one day and not have it go down from the day before-that's too discouraging for me, and I might end up quitting.

CBo: I know how it goes being busy and missing meals-sometimes I have to make my meals into one because I am so busy, and I know that's not always good, etc., but sometimes you just have to. Congrats to you and Annie for almost being done with Phase 1!!!

Have a great, successful day ladies! Good luck to you all! :)

PS- Did anybody ever figure out what the difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero was? I looked on the nutrition labels at the grocery store and there was absolutely NO difference. I am wondering if I can drink the Coke Zero, since they appear the same....

C Bo 06-21-2008 11:28 PM

Kara, I believe I read somewhere that Coke Zero has less aspartame and a different sweetner than regular diet coke. Both has zero calories. Coke Zero is still considered a diet soda.

Hello, girls! So, today was better than yesterday, since I got to hang out with bestest girlfriend who I haven't seen since April. She's pregnant, and I haven't had a chance to see the big baby belly just yet. She's huge! Ha. The last time I saw her, she didn't yet pop. So adorable. :bb:

I had a birthday lunch to go to at a steak house. Unfortunately, we weren't to order off the menu. I ate the salad, even though it was already mixed in dressing. My friend buttered a roll for me which I started to eat then realized I just didnt' want it. The food came out and was grilled veggies, mashed potatoes and filet mignon. I immediately gave someone my potatoes (which are a HUGE weakness for me -- I'm Irish! :luck2you:), ate the veggies and just some of the steak. I know the steak isn't on plan, but there was no way to get anything else, and I was going to be there for 4 hours. Plus, I passed on the cake and ice cream. They served each person a bowl with three huge scoops of Creamery ice cream, which is from Penn State and is so so good. I passed on it at my sister's wedding, and I passed again today. That my friends, is definitely strength. It's the best. I was pretty full after that, so we didn't eat until much later and got Chinese. I ordered brown rice and steamed veggies. Was pretty good. That was my exciting day. Woo Hoo! I tried really hard to be good and think that I made the best decisions when I couldn't stay on plan. Unfortunately I wanted so badly not to cheat on detox. Oh well, I move on, but I did cancel my dinner date with a friend for tomorrow night and left a message with my trainer that I was coming back.

Kara - I agree with C Bo. Coke Zero should be fine. I really haven't had a craving for diet soda at all, so I'm going to hold off like you were saying, so it will only be a treat...you know, like when we were little. We were only allowed soda at parties and special events. Same with sugar cereal and candy, but not anymore. I would love to have the discipline to go back to those ways. Hopefully I'll be there soon!

C Bo - I'm so excited we're so close to being finished with detox. I'm toying with staying on it another day or two, since I know next weekend is filled with parties and temptations. I figured if I did a day or two more, then it will make up for any slip ups I'll make that weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on that?

Good night everyone!

kara d bride2b 06-22-2008 01:06 AM

C Bo and Annie: Thanks for the advice on the Coke Zero. I haven't even had one yet because I didn't know, but I'll drink them now (when I want, of course). :)

Annie: I'm so glad your day was better today. GREAT job on your choices today!!! Especially passing on the potatoes, cake, and ice cream. That would've been a hard thing for me to do-I love love love potatoes. I am a carb person, really. That's why I think the rice helps me not to eat off program so much. You did so well, I'm so proud of you! That's awesome that you called your trainer! I am going to one on Thursday-I used to feel so much better when I went to the trainer--for a while I went three times a week but didn't lose that much because I was eating whatever the heck I wanted. But I sure didn't gain any-haha! As for staying on detox longer, I actually have yet to get off detox. And honestly it hasn't bothered me any. So I think as long as you are ok with eating the stuff, it won't be that big of a deal.

I resisted temptation tonight for sure. We went bowling with a bunch of our friends, and the bowling night came with popcorn and soda. Of course they didn't get Diet soda, and I couldn't eat the popcorn-the smell...oh my goodness. It was wonderful, but I couldn't let myself eat it, so I didn't eat any. Ryan (my fiance' went and got me a diet soda from the coke machine so I'd at least have something to eat since we were there for 3 hours). We had offers to go get something for dinner afterwards, but we just came home and ate. I felt so much better for doing that. There were also bunches of pizza and lots of nachos floating around from their scrumptious snack bar, but I said no!! Whew! :)

Glad to get updates from everyone-talk to you all later!! :)

Kara
