Hey guys! I'm going to be starting Phase 1 of the Fat Smash Diet this week and I would love to have a buddy to work with. I tend to push myself harder when I know I'm on a team. Plus, it helps to talk about going through the same phases and throw around food/exercise ideas.
I would love to hear from all the smashers and I'm most geeked about working with someone around my "weight class".
Keep up the good work! You guys are a major inspiration!
HI, I am thinking about starting this tomorrow. I am 198 and trying to get to 170. So far I can't figure out where everyone is finding all of the other information that isn't in the book. If I can figure it out I'm on it starting Sunday. Our start dates will be pretty close. When did you actually start?
Shar
Hello Shar,
I am shopping for the diet tomorrow and starting Monday, so we could move forward together if you'd like a buddy.
I know that in the upper section of the Fat Smash forum they have some added info on the diet including specifics on the food portion of the program. I've done Phase 1 before and the hardest part for me was figuring out a way to eat the rice. I'm not a rice fan. I found a simple recipe on this forum that used low sodium beef and chicken broth and cooked it in the oven for like an hour. Made it flavorful!
Hi, I started today and so far I'm hungry. I suppose I will get the hang of it soon enough. I know I'm always hungry on the first day of something new. I have been reading the recipes forum and I see some things I might try. I have never liked sweet potatoes but I think I might give them another try.
I tried to sign up for the blog to keep track but I could never get a confirmation in my email.
Right now I have some zuchini wedges in the oven with a little bit of olive oil and Mrs. Dash. I remember these from the South Beach diet and I really liked them so maybe they will help with the hunger. I am looking forward to seeing how this goes. Wow no Diet Coke for a day and I think I survived.
Let me know how tomorrow goes for you.
Shar
PS thanks for the info, I kept wondering how people knew stuff that wasn't in the book. The yahoo talk with DR. Ian is good. He didn't answer the instant oatmeal and rice question but that's what I am using. If I had to cook everything from scratch I don't know if I could do it.

u should never go hungry. if u get hungry eat an apple or pear. u r trying to train ur body not to store the fat from being hungry. granny smith apples have been my best friend throughout this whole transformation. also i ate quick oats ever day until P3. only 2 minutes in the micro an it was good. stirring every 30 secs of course.
Alonzo,
I'm not sure if it was hungry as much as just not satisfied. I had a flu for the first 3 days of this and now I am on day 4 and feeling great. I was headachy and my stomach just didn't feel right, I thought it was the diet but yesterday it turned into a bad earache so now I am leaning toward the flu.
It's nice to hear from someone who is that far ahead. Today someone brought rice crispy treats with M&Ms into the office for Halloween but I have resisted them. I asked my co-worker to put them in her desk so I didn't have to see them all day. Big weakness, I love those things.
I'm also glad to hear about the quick oats thing. I am using Quaker Intant Oats and I love it, but I wasn't sure.
Thanks for the reply. So far so good.
Jess, Where are you? Let me know if you didn't start yet, we can always be support even if you start later.

yeha i know about the not satisfied thing. i heard of some others getting a lil sick at the beginning to because ur body isnt getting some things it s use to like oily food, fried food and caffine. sometimes its tough but granny smith apples are my savior. they are sweet sour and filling. i just now started drinking something besides water. i have a diet pepsi bout every other day and it is so good. just keep to it because this plan works well.
Lonzo,
Thanks for the encouragement. Day 5 and going good. I thought for sure all of those chocolate bars I was handing out last night would ruin me but I just had to detach myself from them..lol.
I will definitely try the Apples, I haven't yet, I'm not much of a fruit eater but I think now an apple would be nice here and there and a good treat.
Congrats on your success, I'm right behind ya a ways.

Hey Shar,
I am now on Day 4 of the detox and I'm settling into it. I got tired of the rice really quick. For some reason, in that recipe I told you about I can't get the rice to good all the way through. I tried something new last night and I'm loving it. I'm also not big on the veggies or rice/oatmeal. I broke out a can of vegetarian baked beans. Now I know that these contain syrups and sugars which are not allowed. But I remember from reading Dr. Ian's comments about using canned veggies. He said that they are fine as long as you remove them from whatever liquid they are in and completely wash them off. This pretty much removes all the additives and anything that's not natural. So I did that with my baked beans and heated them up in clean water. They still have a little bit of that sweet flavor left and they are really good for protein and energy!
I also notice that I do better when I get up and go straight to the kitchen to make an egg white scramble. While that is cooking, I cut up fresh strawberries and put them on my favorite orange plate. I'm a photographer and I'm all about color, so anything inspiring like that I can do really helps.
I did really well with the Halloween candy last night. We always get hundreds of trick or treaters at our house, so we were stocked up with candy. I had one small cherry sucker and that took care of my cravings. I was really proud of myself for not diving into mounds of chocolate bars.
Glad to hear from everyone! Keep up the good work! All the support really helps
Hey Shar? Now where are you?
So I'm on day 6 and very proud of the accomplishment I made today.
It wasn't too bad during the week because I was pretty much sheltered from temptations. Today, I had dinner with my family and they do some fierce home-cooking. You know the deal, you get there and there are like 5 different scrumptious appetizers to mooch on? Then dinner, of course, is beyond yummy. Well, I prepared ahead of time and took my own food. So while they were all stuffing their faces with bbq pork loin, tater caserole, cole slaw, and rolls...I had my steamed broccoli and beans. It was definitely difficult, but I made it through.
If I can resist that, I have so much more faith in my willpower to push through the full Fat Smash program.
Would love to hear from you soon! You'll be starting Phase 2 a few days before me, so I could use the pointers!
I am doing the detox that was featured in First magazine and its a bit different than the book because you get to eat protein in the detox, but I have had a headache at the end of everyday.. a mild headache.. any ideas on what that could be about, its definitely not dehydration!
Hey Ready. You know I usually get headaches any time I try to follow a chicken, salad, vegies meal for some reason. I always equate it to not enough milk because it goes away when I drink it.
I've been doing the detox from the book and I haven't had a single headache for the week! I swear it's the rice and beans. I'm eating those beans like they are endangered!
Hey everyone,
I read that the Fat Smash from the First magazine article is The Fat Smash Extreme. There are Fat Smash Extremers around here also. I had the headache for the first 3 days but I'm not sure if it was the diet or my sinus thing that's going on.
Jess, that's amazing to make it through the family dinner, nice job. I was amazed when I made it through Halloween when I was home alone with all of those candy bars too. This weekend, I am assuming PMS, I could not feel satisfied no matter what, which is odd because it was day 7 and day 8. Saturday I ate salads and this really good chili that I made and every good thing that I could find and I survived. Sunday, one day from day 9, about 2 o'clock, I caved, I went for that Halloween candy. I should have had hubby take it all to work. The first one was good but after that it made me feel like crap, what a waste. Today is day 9 but I am going to extend it a day or 2, I'm not sure which. I'm sure I will get right back on and keep going but I am still not happy about that, oh well, too late now. Too much time not staying busy, sitting around doing nothing on Sunday.
Congrats on day 6, almost to that day when you can add a little meat, I can't wait for that one although other than my little relapse this has been really enjoyable.
Ready to Shed, how many days have you been going? Good luck, I think you will enjoy it.
I'm glad I can come here but I hate to post negative news. Yuck. Friday I got really busy but I am here for the week now.

Ready, I'm interested to read how that one goes, please keep posting. It sounds good so far.
Jess, are you ready to start phase 2 tomorrow? I'm ready I think. I have gotten used to this other than Sunday and now it's going to be odd to change everything up again. I miss my Kashi but I love the oatmeal, I don't see oatmeal in phase 2 but it may be there. I am also doing so good without my Diet Coke but I'm afraid once I'm allowed to have it I will go right back, silly huh. I think maybe I will just drink it when I am out to lunch or dinner, I don't know yet. It will be nice to have a little meat here and there.
I have a friend who is going to start the Fat Smash today, I hope it goes well for her.
