Default Newbie with Questions. Please help!

I recently bought the Extreme Fat Smash book, but I have a couple of questions. It says that it's best for people that only have 25 pounds or less to lose, but is it acceptable for those of us with more? I'm 5'0" and about 175 pounds and I don't know how much I want to lose yet, but probably at least 50 pounds. I went to the bookstore originally looking for Fat Smash, but all they had was Extreme Fat Smash in stock. I'm waiting for Fat Smash to arrive since I bought it on eBay since I couldn't find it at the bookstore.

If Extreme Fat Smash is okay for those of us with more than 25 pounds to lose, I have a couple more questions.

As far as beans go, what do y'all like to eat? I really don't like beans, but I'm hoping that something is classified as a legume that I wouldn't otherwise have thought of.

I see that Dr. Ian loves yogurt. The problem here is that I don't. In fact, I hate yogurt. I just despise the texture. Is there anything I can substitute, or do I need to learn to love it just as much as Dr. Ian does?

By "a piece" of fruit, does he really mean a serving? Am I really limited to something that comes in a single piece, like an apple or orange, or can I have a cup of strawberries or cantaloupe instead?

Thanks a bunch!

You can still follow EFS if you want to lose more than 25, many of us do. But, get used to the beans. Pintos are my favorite but I like black eyed peas, too. I'd suggest buying the dried kind and soaking them instead of the canned kind. As far as yogurt goes, learn to like it, it's good for you. Try the low fat chocolate kind - yummy! All fruit is ok (except as noted - bananas, pineapple, watermelon). Good luck and let me know how you are you doing!

I am not a bean eater, but I now have a close relationship to the kidney bean. Lol... For some reason those work for me, so I stick with it. I used to only be able to eat the Yoplait whips because I didn't like yogurt either. But I've found that the low fat yoplait has a couple good flavors that I was suprised at. If they are not for the plan, then I've been messing up, but they work for me. I like the Apple Turnover flavor myself. I'm sure like the previous poster said, that the cup of whatever fruit would be fine too. Best wishes to you!!!

You can get used to the taste & texture of yogurt. I went from not really caring for yogurt as a teen to choking it down as an adult after the birth of my first child (and only with the Oreo crunchies!) to being a low-fat, organic, *plain* yogurt devotee.

Good luck!

Thank you for all of your help! I really appreciate it. I already bought the EFS, so I have it for reference. Like I said, I'll be getting FS in the mail in a couple of days. How did you decide which was best for you?

I don't mean to seem stupid, but after some thinking, I realized that there are more beans out there that I like than I remembered. I love raw endamame and and string beans! ...but these are legumes, right? Forgive me for asking if a string bean is really a bean. I blame the stupidness on all of my brain power being devoted to college and none to anything else. lol

Has anyone tried freezing yogurt? I'm not sure if freezing it would keep it edible, but I hate the texture. I was the one kid when I was little that didn't like pugging, jello, or whipped cream because of the texture. Either way, if I need to start choking it down to be healthy, I will.

I sometimes mix a whole banana into my yogurt (cut into pieces, of course), so it's basically eating a banana coated with yogurt, not spoonfuls of yogurt. You might try that.

I don't think string beans count as legumes.

You might try going to the store and buying several brands and styles of yogurt. There's a pretty big difference between brands in my opinion. The one I found I liked the most was the Yoplait light thick and creamy one - it's got more of a pudding texture that I find easier to take than the regular yogurt. Also, on EFS you're usually eating fruit with the yogurt and some skim milk is allowed, so maybe a smoothie made from fruit, yogurt and milk with a little vanilla extract and ice would do the trick for you. If you are allowed egg whites, put one of those in there too (pasturized if possible) and you'll have something like an orange julius.

Hi Jess I bought both books, EFS and FS and FS was better for me because it said you can eat unlimited amounts of fruits and veggies. So if iwas so hungry and I needed 2 apple instead of 1 it would be ok. EFS was very limiting as far as food amounts and i liked that it was phases. For example Detox last for 9 days. Granted it sounds like a long time but if you want it bad enough you can do it. Also it helps you build up your exercise you start at 30 up to an hour where you should be maintaining. This is my second go around and I will succeed this time around.
