Karin - :welcome2: This is a great place for support and info. We love to have new people to talk to! Bargoo - you are such an inspiration! I pray for you daily. So glad to hear that you are able to feel God's peace even in these circumstances. :hug: Iris-It's hard to find new churches-it's happened to us several times now, but God always leads us to the place He wants us to be. You're in my prayers:hug: Counting - you're so busy! And so faithful in the work God has for you. Thank you for the prayers and support for my family's issues. It really means alot to know there are others out there who will lift us up in prayer every now and again. Rosebud - ditto what I said to Counting about the support and prayers. I'm still praying for your housing. I know God has something special waiting for you. Hard to keep those DH's busy enough to not worry, though, isn't it? Sounds like you had a very nice Thanksgiving up there! Wilma-thanks for the prayers. Those pies for your Thanksgiving sure sounded good! My mom made an apple pie for my b-day last week, but I was good and just had little small pieces whenever I had the urge! Hope you enjoyed your celebration and time with family! Gary - sounds like you enjoyed your time home and glad the out-of-town stuff will be ending soon. Thanks for all your support and prayers too. I've finally made a mini-goal by reaching the 220's! I hadn't seen 229 in over a decade, so I'm very happy about it! I just can't believe how easy it's been now that I have learned so much from everyone here at 3fc. I can also feel God helping me by taking away cravings for the unhealthy stuff I used to eat. DS2's football game was canceled last night, so he was bummed, but it would have been really cold sitting there in the rain and only 48 degrees! I'm hoping they can work something out to play another reserve game before season ends, but he got to play a few minutes in the varsity game Friday, so he may get more time there as well. Apparently, the team will be going to play-offs, so there'll be more practices and play time for everyone! DS3 has appointments with 3 docs lined up for Thursday, so that'll be a long day- have to leave home by 5:45 am to get there in time:eek: He's not a morning person! You all have a great day! |
Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a great week! I am feeling a little under the weather. For some reason it makes everything just a little harder. I really have hardly had anything to eat ( I am trying to break this habit) nothing sounds good lately. What do you do when you know you need to eat healthy but nothing sounds good ... and by the time you eat you find yourself with a few handfuls of goldfish? Thats my biggest problem not eating and then when I do its nothing good for me... any ideas?? Well hope you're all enjoying your day! God Bless - Rachel

Rachel - buy WW golfish :lol: I actually work goldfish into my plan sometimes because I really like them.
Your question is a good one. I try to keep healthy snack prepared and ready to go. Instead of grabbing goldfish, have cut veggies, nuts, protein bars, smoothie ingredients, string cheese, fresh fruit, V8 juice, Laughing Cow cheeese, healthy crackers or tortillas, high protein cereal, light popcorn, etc. readily available. In the beginning I actually posted snack ideas on the refrigerator door to remind me to grab them instead of the usual "go to" foods. I also eat before I get too hungry. I try to eat small meals every few hours. Yogurt, protein bars, any of the above listed items - something easy to eat that has protein in it. This keeps me from grazing on the other stuff. Of course, since my kids are grown, I can banish things like chips from the house :) Ronni - 31 lbs!!!!!:congrat: Wonderful news!!!!! You are doing GREAT! We are proud of you! Hope everyone had a blessed day! I'm trying to get caught up at work so I worked an 11 hour day today, then chaired our Administrative Council meeting at church. Just like Rosebud I had a great Thanksgiving also. Met with family and ate turkey. Monday I felt really tired and laid around most of the day. Not like me these days. Tuesday morning I woke up all achey. I feel much better this morning. I did try to exercise on Monday a bit - maybe 20 minutes but nothing yesterday. Tonight I have to get my house cleaned as we're getting company tomorrow night. I am so looking forward to having my sis visit.
I wish I had more time to post but I have to get moving here. busy day at work. I do pray for the concerns here - especially Rosebud and Bargoo. Also, a big welcome to Karin. Have a great day! |

We got some news last night, part good, part not so. Uncle had his aortic valve repair surgery and it went well. He's in ICU for a couple days, then regular room for another week. BUT, they also found an intestinal blockage that has to be dealt with as soon as he's able, probably next week. They couldn't do it before the heart surgery, as the docs didn't think he'd live through it, so prayers needed for him (he's in his late 70's). My sis (who ran the marathon Sunday) had to have a uterine polyp removed yesterday and, of course, is waiting for lab results to come back on that. She also has an ovarian cyst that they are watching closely and may have to remove. She's very positive, though. I think I'm more worried than she is! And in the 'it never rains, but it pours (or snows and avalanches, as Rosebud, puts it!)' category, along with all the Mayo visits, football games, and other activities and stuff we have going on, I have to do a deposition on the 30th related to a car accident we had 2 1/2 years ago! What gets me is that, since the other person ran a stop sign and hit us in the side, why do we have to take this to court to get their insurance to pay us anything for our medical and other expenses!!!??? Stuff like this really bugs me:mad: At least I have you guys to 'rant' to:thanks: and I can stick to my plan! Prayers for all of you. Hope you're having a great day!:D |
Rosebud :o - thank you for your kind words!!!! I must say that exercising regularly and getting those 90 lbs off has really helped my energy level. I used to drag my sorry self home from work and take a nap. Now i try to exercise before I start dinner. And - thankfully, DH is a great cook and takes his turn when I have to work late. Tonight, dinner was on the table when I walked in the door :)

We have cool temps here, but the sun was out; plus there was a gorgeous big moon for the last couple of nights; so lovely. Just did housework today; nothing special really. Its been a while since i have been around. Things have been very hectic and stressful for me right now. All of my spare time has been spent in the hospital with mt gram. She is now off the vent. but things arent much better. Just wanted to say that even though i havent been posting i have been reading and all your prayer requests have been sent up. Well, some prayers were answered yesterday and some doors were closed, but I'm sure we'll survive. Uncle is doing great! Out of ICU 1/2 a day early, color is back, and they don't think there actually is an intestinal blockage anymore. After the aorta repair, everything started working better again! Uncle said he thought the heart issue was the real problem all along. He may even get to go home (to his son's) Saturday already-much earlier than expected! Thanks for all the prayers for him. God still has plans for him here awhile longer. It was so good to see them again after so many years too. We got good news and bad on DS3, though. First, all blood work and other tests on possible causes for the abdominal pain came back ok. GI doc believes that it's 'just' a torn or badly strained abdominal muscle under the floating ribs and must do stretching exercises to keep it from developing adhesions. :) Thank the Lord, because we were really getting concerned that they had found something bad and didn't want to tell us over the phone, since we hadn't received any word about any of the tests. Then, the ortho docs ordered more x-rays of the back and determined that there is no crushed vertebra-it's just one of those strange but "within the range of normal" growth plate things that show up weird on the films:) Also, the spina bifida occulta is very, very small (the local docs had panicked prematurely) and should not ever cause an issue-no nerve involvement at all:) But, on closer examination and with standing x-rays they were able to see that the spondylolysis has caused the vertebra to slip, so there is spondylolysthesis, which is what is causing all the back pain. We now know that he will never be allowed any contact sports or cross country/track. No football like older brother. He is soooo sad:cry: Docs did say that if he responds well to the PT exercises and the pain goes away, he may be able to play baseball, soccer, and should be able to continue bike-riding. Forgot to ask about basketball, but there's almost constant running in that and it's the constant jarring of the spine that's part of the concern, so I doubt it's allowed. Of course, swimming is recommended, but we don't have a local indoor pool so he could do that year-round. So, yesterday was a very up and down day. Kind of numb this morning about it all, so I guess it just needs time to absorb. We'll all be walking and doing our PT exercises together:D Prayers continuing for you all! Good to hear from Courtney. I got home late last night for the week-end. I just saw our church "mid-week" prayer in my e-mail, I thought it may come in handy for some of you. I wll be back later....PRAYERS and :hug: ~ Gary --------------------------------------:) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 “The Peace of God”…. Awesome words, but difficult at times, to find in our lives. As we go through our day, days that turn into weeks and years, it is easy to loose sight of God’s promise in the midst of living. These past seven days have been eventful to say the least ---countries throughout the world are fighting economic panic and uncertainty. People in all corners of the globe are affected by the financial “meltdown” as reported in every paper and website. Things that until recently we were certain of: saving for retirement in our 401k and IRA’s, the equity in our home, seem vulnerable. In the midst of living in these times, how do we find the Peace of God? Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, through the apostle Paul tells us: Be anxious in nothing Prayerful in everything Thankful in anything That seems crazy! Anxious in nothing? Doesn't God read the paper? Prayerful in everything? How do I pray for what I don't know or understand? Thankful in anything? What about the difficult times we face? God gives us our answer in the rest of the passage: Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4: 8 – 9 God created this world for us, he wants us to live and experience it until He takes us home. He has given us a “road map” to His peace, and has empowered us with His Holy Spirit – Gods’s power – not ours - to follow it. God is indeed excellent and praiseworthy, admirable, lovely, pure – we must think on these things, God’s things. God promises us His peace! How awesome! How comforting! We have God's peace, in good times and bad, through Christ's person and work for us on the cross We are sure of: Our forgiveness Our salvation. An eternity in heaven in God’s presence Rejoice! God is near, He has given us the perspective and strength to be at peace within ourselves, regardless of circumstances! We know God loves us unconditionally and will work all things together for Him, giving us - His peace that surpasses all human understanding. Hear again His words, His promise – words we hear every weekend at the conclusion of our worship service: The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you, The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the midst of life, look at Christ and what He did for us upon the cross. Through Word and Sacrament we know that God is God yesterday, today and always, His promises are certain. Think on these things and you will be filled to overflowing with His Peace. Amen |

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in and say I have been reading everyones situations daily. I am so thankful we have a God who is faithful through ALL of the ups and downs of life! I was just thinking today what if I had to go through all of this stuff and not have God on my side. - If the LORD had not been on our side, when the people rose up against us the would have swallowed us alive- Psalm 124:2-3 We are facing some very tough times in life right now(I think everyone is dealing with something major, I think I'm at least dealing with 2-3) I cant wait to see what God has planned for all of this trouble! - You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing, you have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.-Psalm 30:11-12 I pray for everyone that this week would be a week of breakthrough in our trouble! (and its Friday, so our faith wont terry!) God bless you all! Ps I am very busy this weekend so I plan on starting to really get into a plan on Monday! (is it just me or are Mondays always a fresh start!)

What a stressful day, but praise the Lord I am here to talk about it! Tons of talk about cutbacks at work- layoffs........and they will, if they take place, be very close to me in seniority, but it appears as though I will be ok. My husbands job is also in jeporardy- and we will know his fate in 3 weeks or less. But, once again, we are here to face these tough times, so that our God can show us just how great he is! "Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Pr 3:4-5) right? thanks for the welcome back.......I need you all. ECmom-Thank you for your concern! DS3 is ok-still unhappy about the restrictions, but doing his prescribed exercises. I think he was surprised at how hard they actually are when you have to do them for a specified length of time:lol: They're a lot harder than they look! But, he didn't argue, just kept doing what he needed to do. Probably didn't help that last night was football night. I heard several rounds of "I want to play football too" during the game, but he'll find something else. He's very interested in bicycle racing, so we'll see what kind of events are in our area next year. Prayers for your DH's job situation and glad that your's appears safe. :hug: Gary-thanks for the verses and prayer-just what I needed. :yes: Today, DH has to work 12 hour days this weekend due to planned maintenance at the plant, so the DS's and I are on our own. Probably go to town. DS2 has bowling league, so DS3 and I can shop while he bowls-always easier with just one of them;) Going to get paint for the kitchen. Not a big job, since it's mostly cabinets and tile in there, but just needs a perk-up, especially to try to sell the place! I've been surprised at myself through all this stress lately. I used to just eat my way through it, especially when the weather is turning colder and it's so dark so early, but now, I've been able to keep my focus and stay with my plan. In fact, I think sitting down and working out the calories in what I'm cooking or planning to cook helps deal with the stress. I can just block out the disappointments and work on the math!:lol: I've just been so shocked that I haven't gone on a binge or grabbed a case of Coke. Don't even crave the stuff most of the time anymore. I know God's giving me the strength to do this and the support from you all helps even more! :hug: to you all! Have a great day!:) |

Gary-I just don't do artificial sweeteners, so I stay away from pop, etc completely. Just works better for me. I drink water, water, water, and a little fruit juice (no sugar added, of course:D) every now and again.
Just wondering-do your dogs really like coffee? or did I misunderstand?-lol |

Ronni- I will be praying for you and DS3 and his issues. It is tough when it appears that a door has been closed to a kid- they do not have the maturity to know that the Lord opens another door- we just have to keep our minds open and trust Him! Hope your day went well, with shopping and all. Are you changing colors in the kitchen or sprucing up the exisiting color? Lots of wash today, and just getting some housework done. I needed a day like this! Next week will be very busy for me, we have our kindergarden education program 4 out of 5 days and I am involved in that. And the board meeting Monday night (this will decide the fate of the layoffs in my area).....gotta sneak to a WW meeting Tuesday after work, somehow, as I missed last weeks meeting. Can't wait to get to church tomorrow...just need some time in church to help sorten out my thoughts after a tough week. Enough of me venting! ECmom (Ginny)-shopping was as shopping always is with a male along. I'll never know how a species that can actually sit and watch 500 laps of cars running in circles can't manage 30 minutes in Walmart:lol: But, we got done what we needed to do. Decided to change the color in the kitchen from blue to a nice squash-hued yellow. More neutral next to our maple (orangey) cabinets. Thanks for the prayers. I am really not to hungry though...I had to sample the new deli by us. I got a KNUCKLE sandwich....over 600 calories....but oh so yummy! My daughter was up here for the day to visit and my sister had a garage sale going out of my garage. Plenty of family here today...as usual. I should finish my current project at work around Tuesday then be off for a couple of weeks...with a day here and there. I have time on the books so that is OK. I should start another large project around the middle of November. I will be going to church alone tomorrow..:( Angie has yoga teacher training again but before that she has to do her last meeting at the Dog shelter to finish her training to be a volunteer. RONNI ~ Angie can't stand artificial sweetners. Good but mixed news on your son....basketball is pretty much a "contact" sport these days though. I am blessed with a wife that knows how easy it is to "not go" to church on a regular basis. We really-really make it a point to start our week there. Prayers for your husband to turn around. |
Wow - get sick for a couple days, and I really get behind in my posting! I had a stomach bug and pretty much slept for 2 days. Recuperated just in time to fly out to CA (our annual trip to see the kids).
Gary - glad Angie is progressing on her teacher training. DIL really enjoys being a yoga instructor. I'm really excited about being able to attend her class this week :) Sound like you are doing just fine with her done for a bit. Glad you are going to have some extended time at home though! Ginny - nice to meet you! Glad you are back :) Prayers ascending for your school board meeting! We aren't at layoff point yet in our district, but we had to cut $1 mil from the budget and with the current economy, Michigan may be prorating our apportionments and layoffs may be coming. These are scary times to be an educator! Courtney - prayers continuing for your family - especially your Gram. Ronni - sorry your DH won't go to church with you. I will keep him in my prayers. We have a hard time getting DS2 to go with us regularly. We have been able to get him there once a month but ... Congrats for not stress eating! It is really, really hard not to turn to food for comfort when stressed - at least it was for me. But, I think you are right - planning and staying focused really helps break that behavior. You are doing so GREAT!!! You have lost over 30 lbs!!!! :D Sunshine - hope you DO get back OP tomorrow. I find that getting back on as quick as possible is the ONLY thing that keeps me from backsliding back into old behaviors when life gets stressful or busy! But, the more I stay on plan, the easier it becomes :) Bargoo - prayers continuing for you, girl. I can't even imagine how difficult it is for you right now. I think I may just be strange, but I have HUGE anxiety about going to a new church, especially if I have to go by myself. Then again, I have anxiety about unknown situations in general... anyway I've been in a new town for almost 2 months and still have not gone to a church service because I always wake up Sunday morning and get too nervous to actually go wherever I planned.
This week I'll be finishing up midterms so I should be able to go back to my grad student bible study. I think maybe the best thing to do would be see where the other people in my study group go to church and try to go with one of them next Sunday. |
Angie and I took the dogs out for 3 miles before I headed off to church and she headed off to her final training session for the dog shelter. She came home after I got home from church with many new dog smells on her....my mutts were so :snooty: jealous :lol:
Just hanging out watching football and some baseball a little later. Back to work tomorrow but I should be home by Wednesday :carrot: IRISWHISPERS ~Continuing my prayers that you feel comfort in searching for a new church. There was a time in my life that that would have been difficult for me...what if they do/don't commune...what if I sit in somebody's spot...(I have my own personal pew ;) )...what if...what if. I found out that all the churches I have visited have been very nice to me! I try to wish everyone a good morning when possible, I look out for new comers too but we have a fairly large church, with 3 services...2 Sunday and 1 on Saturday, and it isn't always easy to tell visitors from regulars. I will say no one ever seemed offended when I introduced myself to someone that had been coming for awhile that I thought was visiting. I hope you find a church buddy soon! :hug: SCOOTER ~Glad to hear you are feeling better and with the kids. My kids live reasonably close, son and dil are about 10 miles away and daughter and sil are about 35 miles. My son goes to late service, when they go and my daughter usually doesn't come up here for church unless it is Christmas, Easter and mom/dad's days. She used to be the only one we knew would be there, until she moved away. She does go with her husband to his/his mom's church on Saturday afternoons on occasion. My step-daughter and nephew are CEO's...:tree: Christmas and :easter3: Easter Only. I realize it is a personal relationship with Christ. I encourage them but quit making them go once they were of age to drive themselves. They all know they better have their butts in MY pew on :easter2: ;) But it truly is nice having them close enough to come by for a visit, as my daughter did yesterday and as both of them did last week. Angie is almost done with her training :carrot: Looking forward to staring her teaching to the congregation, if we can find a spot for her since the rooms are all being torn down for the new building! now...back to the games ;) |

Just a short hello- I am really tired and still have lots to do.
Iris- prayers to you and your church hunt. Look at it this way- you are not rejecting Him- it is just that particular house of His that you might like or dislike. Every church has its own "flavor" and many are not wrong, simply not the best choice for you. I think if you are honest from the beginning and mention that you are looking for a new church home, most will understand. Rose- househunting is stressful.......not one of my favorite activities. Hope all goes well. Gary- Angies yoga class sounds like a hoot. We had step aerobics at our church ( one of our members is a gym teacher) until his wife had another baby. It was so much fun......great way to stay in shape and fellowship. Ronni- love the color you are painting- nice fall colors!! Counting- hope you are over that stomach bug- and I know how tough it is when you miss a day or so posting here. I did not go to the board meeting tonite- lots of reasons, one of which is that I am exhausted. I have a very full week at work, so if I do not get some rest, I am sure I will get sick...... Thanks EZ and ECmom. =) The nice thing last time I was church-searching was that I had a friend who was doing so at the same time, so we went together to services. But really, I'm in a christian fellowship group at school (i'm a grad student) and I KNOW most of the people there would be willing to introduce me to their church, it's just a matter of asking. Seriously, me and my anxiety! But I will do so on wednesday night, because we have bible study AND a potluck, so it'll be a little more fellowship oriented.

:D HELLO EVERYONE ~ we've had a very productive weekend and today, as we went to see another place and loved it ... SO, WE TOOK IT!!! And yes, it is for sure, because we gave them a security/holding deposit.
We can start moving in on November 1, 2008. It's a nice duplex and the rooms are a nice size, so all our furniture will fit, which was a concern. It's all ground level, and we have a back yard for NIKO, which we are so pleased about. Our new landlords are fun and cheerful people to be around: they just felt so very right. A lot of my prayers were answered here. I just knew that it was the right place for us as soon as I walked in; it had everything that I felt we needed to feel comfortable, so that had to be an answer to our prayers. THANKS SO MUCH to all our faithful friends here, who have been praying for us all through this stressful time. I had forgotten just how harrowing that house-hunting could be. But now we can relax for a bit too, as our present landlord gave us an extension so that we could move at the right time as well. Anyways, it was a nice way to spend a rainy day; thankfully, it stopped by the time we went out. Then afterwards, to celebrate, we when to a RIB & STEAKHOUSE for my 50th birthday dinner and it was healthy and delicious too. ANYWAYS, I'm so tired that I am falling asleep at the helm here; will talk more tomorrow. Take good care and thanks again ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug: |

We had a great day at the Oakland zoo today. It was a glorious day in CA!!! And we had dinner at a wonderful Japanese restaurant. I'm in heaven with all the ethnic eateries out here! I am a newby to this type of support forum but from what I have read the people here seem to be very supportive. I am on week two of the Prism weight loss program and am really liking the daily scripture reading and getting sugar free and processed food free. It is amazing how clear your mind is when you get rid of the garbage. I have already had some success just with cutting out the sugar - soda- and other processed junk I have put into my body. I am hoping there are others out there who are like me trying to reclaim the body and spirit God gave me. I hope you all have a wonderful week and God Bless you all. :) |

Glad your current landlord is willing to help out too-just makes things easier all around. Best wishes with the packing and moving! And, Happy Birthday from another October baby! Iris-prayers for you to find a church and peace of mind in facing new and unfamiliar situations- I know exactly where you're coming from:hug: All I can really say is that meeting people and doing new things has gotten easier as I've aged, but many times I've had to force myself to go out and do what I knew I needed (like visiting a new church), even though I had butterflies in the stomach and a lump in my throat the whole time. God will provide the courage we need. Counting-glad you're feeling better and that you got to enjoy the zoo! azcandy-:welcome2: We're glad to have new people to chat with! This really is a great place for support and help with many things besides our diets. Ginny-hope you get rested up and don't get too run down during the week. It really is all too easy to get sick when our bodies get a little run down. We don't have much going on here today-just the homeschool work and maybe some more landscaping, since the weather is still kind of nice. We dug in some edger blocks yesterday and dug out grass, so we can add mulch to one of my flower beds. We've just been mowing around the plants this whole summer:eek: DH hates that! So, now it'll be nicely edged and we (or whoever we sell the house to-:crossed:) won't have to worry about what we're mowing off:lol: I'm saving painting the kitchen until later this week, because the weather is supposed to turn much colder, some kind of cold front you Canadians are sending down, I think;) Well, hope everyone has a great day! Ronni - my DH hates mowing around plants as well. We ended up eliminating grass in the entire front yard. The older we get, the more plants and less grass we have. We are off to SF today for some urban hiking. The hills in SF really do qualify as a "hike" in my book! Hope you all have a blessed day - prayers ascending. |

I have just decided to get some support and I love 3fc! I've read for a long time but see from my waistline I need some support. How cool to start on the same day as "az"! Hey there! I am a forgiven sinner (Christian) and I flog myself daily for what I put in my mouth (mostly sweets). I been on a million diets and I hate them! I know that this is not God's best for me and have come to the foot of the Cross to lay my burden down AGAIN. I hope to get to know you all, this sounds like a fun place to be! Blessings! |
