I just posted, but I just thought of something.... I usually do my walk/jog prog in the evenings when I get home; and I could eat an entire farm the next morning at work.. I used to eat cereal w/ skim in the mornings or an egg sandwich w/ fruit. That's not holding me anymore. I guess that's a good thing. I have to eat every couple of hrs. (good for metabolism anyway - something like grits/ oatmeal, etc. If not I'm famished. Anyone else with me? Darnit, I feel like a pig some mornings - just greedy. But the scale is saying "yes" so I guess I'm doing something right. Who else can eat a farm by 10am?
|
Me me me. I eat 2-3 eggs and 2 sausages most mornings and have jucie, and thats at 7:00 by 9:00 I am growling liek mad! I realize eggs dont fill me up liek befroe. It must be my metabolism or something.

I did workout 1 yesterday of week 1 and thought it was really hard and tiring, I want to keep at it. its like , if I give up and not push push push myself, I will never change who I am , I will become a quitter. I dont want to be that way, I want to be in shape for swimming next spring and be able to run 3-4 miles at once and if I dont push myself I will never ever get there. no one can decide to work for somethign but me and thats exactly what Ive ogtta go do.
That could be the meaning f my dream , I am runnign and runniing and I never quit and never stop , but I am also in shape for running , and I never run out of breath beacause I never stopped running. |
Congratulations, Vouge on your 1st run! And I tell you, it's a metabolism booster. Of course, it was hard for everybody- so don't feel alone!! hahahaa! I'm telling you I was like OK I'll never be able to do this constantly. And to be honest, I love this walk/jog prog, but I still feel like "Am I gonna be able to run for 30 minutes STRAIGHT in 9 wks like the programs says I will?" But everyday gets a little easier. I feel better doing about 4-5 workouts/wk; to keep myself up w/ the prog. I missed two days over the wkend and Monday I was like "WHOA, did I miss a week or something?" That's prob just my laziness trying to kick back in. So I do every other day or so. This is just great, though. By next wk, you'll hate to miss a workout. I love, absolutely, positively LOVE my church. I went yesterday (it wasn't my night to walk/jog) and when I was leaving (about 9:30pm) I thought to myself "can I squeeze a workout in tonight" - CRAZY - and came home and went to bed.. Now I know how people get addicted. Because you see the scale steadily moving downward (no matter what you eat almost because I had cheesecake and chocolate over the weekend).... And I still lost almost 3 pounds!! I'm on weight watchers, also. Usually if you mess up to the degree that I did, the scale WILL laugh at you on the next weigh in. But this jogging thing is the ticket! It's like a get out of jail free card.
|
you certinly soudn addicted, and ya know yesterday , I got dressed to go jogging and I rember I had a five page paper due today so I stopped and wrote it then it was too late to go jogging and now I have volenneteer work to do and going ice skating tomorow so i wont get to go running again till sunday, it stinks I really wanted to go running too , mabey I can squeeze a jog in , but I know being able to run for 30 minutes , I can be on the swim team in the summer and tennis and track in the spring it benefits me so much ok I am going to find a way to go running . Later!

Hey everyone! Just fininshed my W8D3 run and kept going to 30 minutes! And I could have kept going, I felt great! Seriously guys, if I can get to running 30 minutes without stopping you can too!!
Have a great weekend :) |
OK, this is the first night that I took to the streets - NOT quite the same, is it? OK, the wind was killing the back of my throat - BURNING! I said to myself "OK, no problem, slow down, take your time, you can do this.. Needless to say, I ended up walking the rest of the time. So let's see I did my stretches/ warmup (inside before I left) and stayed outside for 25 mins (only did 4 cycles of walk/jog and walked fast the rest of the way).. Then came in & jumped on the TM and did a 10 min walk/jog session. I think until I build up my endurance, I need to stay inside. I felt good but I was like "gosh, this is so different". there are HILLS out there!!!
Any suggestions/ breathing techniques, etc. HELP because I did enjoy being outside, but I definately don't want to go back to just walking. |
Miss Cretia, hills are a killer, aren't they?? I just did my weekly walk/jog, and the hills were really getting to me! I really have to get out there during the week instead of just on Saturday, but I haven't worked that out yet with leaving the house at 7am and getting home at 8pm every day -- luckily, the cardio I do at the gym keeps me on track a bit.
I did 5 intervals of 5 min jogging and 2 min walking (I reduced my walking this week but didn't increase the jogging because I'm not ready). The fact that I'm able to do 25 minutes of jogging, even with the walking mixed in, is pretty amazing to me. I've been so out of shape for so long that it's a miracle I can do this. I haven't tried it on a treadmill yet, but I'm wondering now if I could do it longer like that since the treadmill's a bit easier on you if you don't up the incline. I've been doing inclines when I walk on the treadmill, but I would run flat. I guess I've been too embarrassed to run at the gym because too many of my students are there all the time, coming up to me while I'm sweating and asking me about their grades! I have a question for all you runners: do you make a conscious effort with your breathing or do you just breathe however is natural? I'm wondering if I should make more of an effort to take in air because I feel like I'm exhaling so much and not getting enough oxygen when I run. I don't feel like that ALL the time, but when I'm really working hard I'm starting to feel a bit out of breath and it doesn't feel like I need to stop -- just feels like I need to learn how to breathe while running. I should probably ask my husband since he coaches running! |
OK, did my jog prog this am.. Week 3, first workout- wow, those 3 min intervals weren't as bad as I thought it would be; but was definately a challenge... Felt good though, because @ the end of my 23 mins I could have done more. Didn't push it, though. I've been eating today like tomorrow won't get here. SO therefore, I'm off for a 25 min speedwalk outside (maybe I'll try some more jogging intervals outside tonight). I'm gonna have to get used to it because I'm used to the TM (it's flat and I haven't started w/ the incline).. Gotta get a stopwatch for consistency outside. Because believe me, glancing at the watch is NOT an option. I'm like WHAT! ONLY 1 MIN DOWN AND 2 TO GO!?!?! This can't be right......
LisaMarie, the cool running site has a couple of pointers: 1). to breathe out when your left foot hits the pavement (to keep the side pains away) but I've tried that.. I've found that the attempt to "pant breathe" wears me out. When I breathe regularly, I can jog farther w/out tiring. And just being outside last night let me KNOW that I can't pant breathe; that definately would have my throat on fire from the cold. and 2). to just to whatever works for you when it comes to breathing. I breathe normally and just do a recovery deep breath in & out when I need it (which is usually every 30-45 sec or so). As far as the pain in the sides, I just stretch bef & after the workout and minimize eating/ drinking right before and I do OK. Alot of people talk about the amount of drinking that they do during the workout; I can't do that. I just sip during. If I drink alot, here comes those sharp side pains! |
LisaMarie, that is really funny... Yep, you prob should ask your husband!!!
The funny thing is about my post on yesterday after coming from outside. The prob is not the breathing tech, the prob are the doggoned hills that I wasn't prepared for! |
Hello everyone. I just started doing the C25K. I'm so impressed by everyone's hard work and progress. (I haven't read the whole thread, but close)
I should probably start by saying that I am not a runner. I haven't jogged since my last PE class in middle school. But I needed a goal, something I could work towards other then just getting in my exercise for the day...so training for a 5K sounded good. I've gone out twice. The first day I was only able to complete 2 cycles of 60/90 then I had to walk the rest. The second time I was able to do three cycles of jogging for 60 but I increased the walk time inbetween to 3 min. My problem isn't that I am out of breath, which surprised me, but that the lower half of my shins to the tops of my feet are just on fire. The burning eases up when I'm walking, but it is right back the moment I start jogging again. Is this what is known as shin splints? The pain doesn't last after I'm done with the whole walk, just during the jogging sessions and it is intense. Should I just keep doing what I can and working up to the day1 intervals? Is there something I could be doing different that will lessen the pain in the shins? Any advise would be appreciated. I really want to finish this excersise plan this time. Also, anyone run with music? How do you keep the ear buds in??? As soon as I start to jog they come popping out.:?: |
Good for you for setting a 5K goal and working toward it! Yes, it does sound like shin splints. Here's a page from the Cool Running site that might help:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml About the ear buds, you might consider getting a different size. I had to experiment with sizes. My biggest problem with ear buds now is that I sweat a lot, the sweat runs into my ear, and out comes the ear bud. |
Oh, don't worry about it, Spider, I haven't jogged since high school either (I'm 34 and my highest weight was 199 a couple of yrs ago)... I just started the prog on 10.28 and I'm rollin'. I'm in wk 3 (I've done Sat, Mon & Tues so far).. This is def addicting. If I can do it, you sure can - lazy was my middle name. I just started exercising regularly in Sept. I had a hard time even walking at first (lazy has ever) - now I can't wait to get home and squeeze another workout in before too late...
The cool running site is great for advice. They advise to jog easy and SLOW; don't run hard - that takes a lot of extra energy and I would think it would assist w/ the pain in your legs; because we're beginners. Jog real slow, almost a fast walk.. That's how I started on week 1. I felt stupid but now I've picked up the pace, a faster jog. But start out at a turtle pace. They advise to work on speed later. You almost have to get the breathing, tolerance down first. Good luck, just move slow. Also, are you stretching first. The site has great stretches to do before and after each workout; don't skip those! |
Thanks for the advice. I checked out the site and definitely need to be incorporating stretching. I'm also probably going too fast. It's hard to tell how fast you are going when just going through the neighborhood park. I just got a gym membership so I think tomorrow I'll try on the treadmill and then I'll be able to control the speed better. I usually walk at 3.5, any idea how fast I would set it for a slow jog?
oh yeah, Sheila, thanks also for the tip on the ear buds. I had no idea they came in different sizes. I've always just used what came with the devise I'm using. |
