Congratulations Pachy!! You rock!!

Take the shoes! :)

So much for trying to add an extra lap to "make it 4". I only made 2.5miles before I threw it in. Must not eat salads for lunch on run days! This happened about a month ago and I ate a salad then too. Also, I started later than normal and I was running during my dinnertime, so I needed fuel, period. Live and learn....

finn 10-04-2006 11:07 AM

Oh I know exactly what you are talking about! On Monday I wasn't really hungry so had a banana sandwich for lunch at noon then expected my body to somehow run for 30 minutes @5pm...needless to say it didn't! DOH!

jelynn 10-04-2006 02:40 PM

That's been tough for me...I have to time my running just right. Not too soon after eating or I feel sluggish, but too much time and I don't have a the fuel. I don't think I could ever do it first thing before breakfast like my SIL does. I've been trying to do it after taking kids to school around 9 am so at least 1.5 hours after breakfast usually.

eadavenp 10-04-2006 10:38 PM

Just wanted to let you all know i did 3 miles yesterday morning, in 36 minutes! i have my race on saturday, so tommorow is just an easy two miles to keep me loose.

jelynn 10-06-2006 01:19 AM

W3D3 today...I added a couple intervals and now my shins hurt...dang it. Probably over did it a bit. Doesn't feel like shin splints- more like sore bones. Hopefully a rest day will cure them and I will be able to add a day 4 to the week on Saturday. (then start week 4 on Monday)

The running feels really good though- I think next week I'm up to 5 minutes??
I've been doing it all on the treadmill and know I should try to get outside to see what I can do there. I'm such a chicken though. We'll see.

softballmom 10-06-2006 08:45 AM

Good luck on your race Saturday, eadavenp!

The treadmill is your comfort zone, jelynn, and you know it works for you. But you would probably enjoy running outside esp now with the cooler temps and pretty autumn view.

I left my comfort zone (outside track) and ran home from the park which is a 3mile hilly course. It was very enjoyable, and surprisingly doable! I will prob do this more often for my longer runs (3+miles).

jelynn 10-07-2006 12:37 PM

W3D4 today- my right lower leg still hurts a bit, but more a dull ache. I was still able to run no problem.
I felt so good during the last 3 minute running interval I kept going and went 8 minutes!!

LisaMarie71 10-08-2006 03:45 PM

I did my weekly attempt at jogging today, and I did pretty well! Last week, I did (not counting warmup/cooldown) 10 intervals of 2 minutes jogging then 1 minute walking, for a total of 30 minutes. Today I did 30 minutes as well, but I did 6 intervals of 3 minutes jogging then 2 minutes walking. Longer intervals of each, which felt more comfortable for me at this stage. I felt like if my knees didn't hurt I could've jogged much more than 3 minutes. My knees feel MUCH better now than they did when I first started, but they're still feeling the impact. I've built up my cardio endurance with all the walking and elliptical I do during the week, so I feel like my knees are really what's holding me back. I know I just started, though, so I'm actually proud of my progress. I plan to really focus on strengthening my muscles so they can support all this weight, and then when I lose more weight the impact won't be as much anyway. I can already tell a difference because I'm 35 pounds lighter than I used to be.

I can't run on a softer surface, unfortunately (I run on the paved roads around my subdivision), because the grass on the sides of the road is uneven and slanted. I broke my ankle a few years ago and I'm terrified of falling, so there's no way I'm running lopsided. I can't run on a treadmill because of my balance issues, so I'll stick to walking there.

I love this thread, because I'm so inspired by the progress you guys have seen and the support you so readily give all the new runners!

W4D1 today. The last 5 minute jog was hard...I know I didn't eat enough this morning before getting on the treadmill, but I did it. Even sprinted the last 45 seconds :)

finn 10-11-2006 05:33 AM

Its great there are so many new people! Welcome to everyone :-)
I'm on week 8 day 2 and going strong. My biggest problem right now is I'm doing all my running on the treamill in my gym and its super boring and I find myself counting the minutes...
Keep on running everyone!

eadavenp 10-11-2006 11:29 AM

My race didn't go well, but it wasn't horrible. I did it in about 38 minutes, which meant i was able to go at the same rate (approximately) as my training pace. I did walk sometimes, but that was also in an effort to not pee in my pants. I'm still working on a good solution for the problem.

softballmom 10-11-2006 12:06 PM

Practice makes better - sign up for another one, eadavenp!

Finn, you're almost there! Keep at it.

I have my second 5k this weekend. The last one I did, I was barely running 3miles; now I can run up to 5miles - so I'm better conditioned now and will work on my time.

Sheila53 10-11-2006 02:31 PM

eadavenp, you did great! That first race is always hardest because you have no idea what you're really in for.

Yeah, the pee problem. I've had to work on that, too. I drink one cup of water immediately after getting up (then no more fluids) and eat a fiber one muffin about 45 min. before a race--I think the fiber soaks up any excess liquid. :D Then I pee as much as possible until leaving for the race, which is always at the last minute. I know you're supposed to be well-hydrated, but my bladder just can't deal with that so I don't drink until after a race.

jelynn 10-12-2006 12:59 PM

W4D2- the 5 minute intervals were a lot easier today. My lower legs are achey now though. Need a hot soak or something :)

Finn- I'm on the treadmill too...it's all about the music on the mp3 player for me though. Keeps me motivated and if it doesn't I fast forward until I find one that does, lol.

Softballmom- looking forward to hearing about how your race goes! Good luck :)
