How many miles should I be riding for a good workout? I do other things also, but I am just curious about the bike. I generally ride approximately 6 miles.

It is not so much how many miles you ride, but the amount of time you spend working out. Try for a speed that gets your heart rate and breathing up a bit, and that will have you in a light sweat at the end of the workout,and try for at least 30 minutes.
I also use a stationary bike as my aerobic exercise, as well as strength training 3 days a week.
