  • Some days I'd really, really like a treadmill.

Thursday's tempo run turned into a slow nightmare since the path I usually run on was a mess of uneven ice with occasional slippery patches. Trying to run quickly was impossible.

Friday's my day off running. It snowed in the morning.

Saturday. Long run day. I woke up and was out the door at seven. It was snowing. Again. And windy. Again. I managed 13.5km at a slightly slower than usual pace. It should have been 16k, but I was close to home and not enjoying the snow in the face thing any more.

    Is it almost spring yet?
  • It is so cool to see all the Texans here!

Lucky, I'll see you at the cowtown at the end of February! I'll be running the marathon. Is the Big D in April a full marathon and a half marathon?

I started a diet at the beginning of January called "Let's Do Lunch" You basically eat lots of fruit and vegetables. You save your protein for one big meal (Usually lunch) and you cut out the refined sugars- no bread etc.
I have lost 10.5 lb., my husband started last week and has already lost 4 pounds, and my mom has lost 6 pounds. The first week I started, I was afraid it would affect my energy for running. I was actually a little weak the first 2 days. Now I am full of energy. All of the carbs from the fruit give me the energy I need without the crashes I used to get. I usually give up on diets after the first two weeks because I get overwhelmed by measuring food, counting calories, etc. You don't have to do that with this plan. You are always allowed to eat so you will be full. It is just changing the mindset about food. You eat fruit when you have a sugar craving. You can eat all the corn you want (including popcorn) when you crave bread. I am excited to see myself actually lose the baby weight (especially since my babies are 2 1/2 and 9 1/2
  • txlawchic -- I do leg workouts only on days that I don't run, I do a leg workout at least once1/week. I've read and been told that's it's important to work legs because it prevents injury. I've noticed that I have a bigger appetite when I weight train more than when I run but that could be because I only run about 20-25k/week. I eat basically low carb but I eat a LOT of oatmeal I LOVE my oatmeal I will sometimes eat it 3 times/day if I'm hungry and I don't know what to have...

I haven't run since Thursday I am definitely going out tomorrow morning...

So on that note if I want to get up bright and early I must get to bed...

    Nite all
  • Oh Ilene!? .... you're not going to sleep are you?
  • Yes I am BUT I'm still here aren't I?
  • 9 miles this morning. I wasn't too keen when I got up and the weather thing on my computer popped up -2 though! It was also really foggy. I've discovered that the main advantage of wearing gloves is that I don't stare at my watch to see how much longer I have left quite as often, I managed to make it 37 minutes/4 miles before taking the first peek
  • Helen, I'm so impressed with your 37 minutes of no-peeking. I can barely make it 10 min. I got so I set my watch to just show a lap time, and make a new lap every mile, that way it doesn't get too high and I can sort of trick myself into thinking I haven't been running that long.

Finally, seems like some progress: after a disastrous run Friday (didn't want to go because I was sooo TIRED and DH just goaded me into it), today I had a beautiful run, 4:1 run/walk intervals, finally picking up from the 3:1 I was stuck at. My heart rate was under control and a lot of it was actually comfortable. I feel like I'm getting back to myself. And it won't be long before DD can ride in that jogging stroller I bought almost a year ago.

  • I made it 10 minutes without peeking today! That's a helluva lot better than the usual 30 secs!

I ran 28 minutes! Yahooooooooo! and it felt so good to get back! The route was about 4K, and I've planned out a nice 5K route which has a HUGE hill in it which I will be running DOWN! On crazy days I might turn the route around, but not the first time!

I ran yesterday too. I had to bully myself into it and kept telling myself, "You've been running in snow, you've been running with no socks (not too bad, just one blister!) and you can damn well run now, when it isn't snowing and you're wearing socks!"
  • YES! I did my 8-mile run yesterday while watching football in 71 minutes!!!! That is huge for me! It definitely gave me a lot of confidence going into the last month before the Cowtown. My goal for the Cowtown in under 2 hrs (about 9 min mile).

This weekend will be at least a 9 mile run so if I can keep up my pace I will be a-ok!!

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend!

    Em
  • I skipped Friday, but ran 3.2 miles on Saturday, it was snowing and like OnlyMe I didnt like the snow in the face Yesterday I really didnt feel like going at all, but have no excuse the weather was nice but very cold, anyway I didnt feel like running at all and I almost did my 3.2 again but I told myself to just go a little further, and I ended up running 6.6 miles! I felt great by the time I got home. Anyway, I think I pulled something, my left thigh hurts a bit today- but I will "walk it off"
  • No peeping at the time definitly helps. I put a towel over the display on the treadmill and just estimate the time by mu music.
  • Boy I am so impressed with your times Lucky and Helen!! Helen you were going at 6.49mph and Lucky you were at 6.76mph, how kewl is that??!! I'm VERY impressed!! I only go at a 5.3mph average , ain't gonna break any speed records doing that!

Yesterday I did 11.43k/7.10m in 1h22mins!! It felt good and the weather was -9C/15F, I loved it, even if the sidewalks were icy ...
  • A friend and I did a 2.6-mi loop after work yesterday in roughly 20 minutes so that was refreshing. This cool air feels so good during a jog.
  • I ran 4 miles on the treadmill this morning and 4 miles this evening outside with some new running buddies. I'm feeling GOOOOD!!!
  • Hi - I've been lurking here, but have decided I need to get back to running. Yesterday I did Day 1, Week 1 of C25K (on the ). This program worked for me back in 2000 when I was running a lot. I have been doing plenty of cardio, so was able to do the first day with no problem. It really made the time pass more quickly too.
