  • YP1 Congrats on the speed work out and on the marathon plans! I'm hoping to train for and run my first marathon at the end of August this year.

I didn't make it out Wed. to due spending half of Tues. night painting. I was exhausted and I ended up have more painting to do and more errands to run anyway.

This morning I managed 8k at an incredibly varied pace. 2k warm up nice and easy and then I sped up to tempo pace. 2k into the tempo portion of my run I decided that I really need to adjust my goal pace to take into account the snow currently underfoot--I find it's really tough on the legs. So I slowed back down to easy pace. Then, about 6k or so into the run, I realised that I was 2k from home, but dh needed to leave for work in about 10 minutes. So I sped back up a bit but couldn't go that fast since the footing was terrible. He left for work pretty much on time. But the weather was beautiful and sunny and I actually took off my gloves and head band and only wore a fleece top. It was -4C with no wind. That feels like summer around here in January!
  • Runner's High?
This morning I run 3.5 miles as I am trying to increase my milage slowly and build up 20 miles/week. But I just didn't want to stop running, it felt so good. I had to stop because I was getting late for work.

Anybody here ever experienced runner's high? I've heard about it, but never really experienced it.
  • Week 1, Day 2 C25K done.
  • Miaka, yes when I ran 6.6 miles last weekend I first started out feeling crappy and really didnt even want to do my 3 miles, but made myself go a little farther and when I was about 1 mile from home I felt GREAT. I usually dont feel like that on my regular 3 mile runs, just the 5 or 6 mile ones.
  • I didn't run yesterday but did buy some new running gear I'm just trying to arrange to meet up with someone for a run later this afternoon to get me out of the house as I'm a little hungover and need the motivation of setting a time and having someone depend on me!
  • Heather, I don't think it was runner's high I experienced, but now I am convinced that it is not a myth!
  • I ran about 5 miles today, just under 1 mile warm up, 2.25 with one of my running group and then another 2.2 after I she finished.
  • Back on the treadmill for me...3.5 miles in 31 minutes. Tomorrow I will do a long slow distance run as long as the weather agrees with me.
  • C25K Week 1, Day 3. Plus the last running segment I did the time for Week 2, which is where I'll be the first of the week.
  • I did somewhere between 10 and 11 miles today in 1:50. I'm guessing closer to 11 because the paths I were on kept doubling back on themselves which added more distance than I tracked when I tried to work it out. The middle bit was very slippy trails so I walked a bit there (not wanting to pick up in injury!), but still I'm pleased with how much further I can run now.
  • Wow, 10-11 miles. I can't imagine myself doing more than 4 miles at a time.
  • Did 6 miles on my long run this morning...perfect weather, perfect run! Took around 60 minutes
  • I feel like such a wuss I did only 4.9miles/7.8k... It wasn't a good run at all...I guess we all have those days!

A question for those with orthotics in their runners, to you take out the insole that comes with the running shoe or keep it in? Mine are only half orthotics and the guy at the Running Room yesterday, I bought new Asics, said I should cut the insole at the spot where my othotic started because there was too much toe room... I'm going to ask my Chiropodist this week, but I was wondering what the rest of you did... I USUALLY took the insole out completely and just put my orthotic ... I'm also thinking that if I cut the insole out at the edge of my orthotic this will change the mechanics of my running gait? I'm not sure...
  • I did my 10-mile run on Saturday - woohoo!! 88 min 45 sec. My goal was 89 minutes...

And I lost one more pound this week...last week was quite a struggle (eating-wise but that's for another thread) but I made sure I had good work outs all week long and it paid off.
  • I haven't been running, but I helped with a Half-Marathon yesteday and I was shocked... There was NO porta-potties/bathrooms on the route and the closest bathroom was about .7Kms from the start line.... I was at the one point of the race nearest the washroom (a loop for the last 1.1kms), however one of the organizers said "no one needs a washroom on a half-marathon"... geez, I was not too happy with him or the organizing of the race. I don't think I'll participate in that one in the future.

    Cheers!

    Ali
