Default Gym recommendations?

My SO and I are thinking about joining a gym together, so I need recommendations for someplace that would be suitable for both of us. I am currently working out at home on an elliptical machine, but would like to vary that some and add in something similar to jazzercize. He is mostly interested in weight training as he already bikes 5-6 days a week.

If it makes a difference we are in San Diego county....

Thanks :-)

Visit all the gyms in your area, talk to owners, trainers, and gym goers. Make your decision on how comfortable you feel in the gym and of course on what they have to offer. Makes sure you feel welcome and at ease in your gym because if you don't you won't go...

If you're in the San Diego area you should have a LOT of places to choose from!

Most gym chains and some independents offer free visit coupons (check their websites). I know that currently 24 Hour Fitness is offering deals, etc tied in with their sponsorship of the show "The Biggest Loser". I would encourage you to get ahold of some of those coupons and go to the gym at the times that YOU would go to see how crowded (or not) it is at that time.

I just checked smartpages.com for the SD area and see that Bally's has a 2 week free guest pass available for download.

If you're signing up as a couple, usually gyms offer special couple/family deals.

I saw a commercial where Bally's is now where you don't have to have a contract. Might be a good way to try it out for awhile.

When I was visiting a friend out there, I went to a gym I liked. Sure wish I could remember the name of it. She was living in the Spring Valley area, and I remember it was near Bonita Golf Course. Don't know if that helps you or not .

Thanks for the ideas!! We are going to take a couple months to really check them all out and see what the best fit is for us.
