10k this morning in 64 minutes. I've done it faster, but not often, and it's been a while since I've managed a run that long so I'm glad I'm back into it.

Hey Everyone
I did 5 miles/8 km today...and I feel great and my run went really well too.... Leanne |
For the first time in my life, I ran 3.1 miles (5K) today! Took approx. 45 minutes. WOOOO-HOOOO! :D Just wanted to pop in and share the good news, now off to bed, for this tired woman.

Hey everybody,
Whoo-hoo Laura!!! way to go! I just finished day 3 of week 7 of the cp25k, not to far to go to run 3.1 miles. I'm off to Miami on sunday then going on to St. Lucia 9 days later. |
Jaime -- Have fun in St. Lucia lucky you!!
Laura -- :bravo: That's a great accomplishment.... Today I ran about 12k... it was gorgeeeeous out... I met up with a g/f that was walking so I wallked with her for a few blocks to her home then ran back to the trail... When I reached my turn-around I headed to my Mom's and had toast and coffee with her... Then ran home all this before 9am! I love mornings like this :D ! |
I've been busy with house renovations and visiting relatives, so I haven't been around much lately. I had a cold this week too. So the above three factors insured I had an adequate taper going into today's half marathon (29k week, most of it last sunday, compared to my peak of 60k weeks). The weather was great for running, cloudy/light rain and 18C/65F, no wind. Despite the hills over the first few km (I hate hills), I managed to reach my 2:00 goal. 2:00:12 gun time/1:59:02 chip time. I felt pretty weak afterwards, but much better once I got indoors and changed into dry clothing. Now I feel great, but I'm sure my legs will be complaining in the morning.
Mrs.Dawsondn, I've read varying reports about how much faster you get with weight loss, but I think it was around 3 seconds/mile faster per lb lost. And I'm sure that you'll get faster, both with weight loss and with just running more. Sugarbianca, I LIKE that it's a bit chilly some mornings here now. 10C is perfect running weather to me. I don't think I'd do well in the Caribbean! |
I was having a great run this morning and at the 2 hour mark my legs just died... I slowly and stubbornly kept going and managed to finish my long slow run, but man, I am freakin sore now... my lungs and heart rate were fine... too much lactic acid I guess in the legs... I shall have a cold bath and then a hot shower later...
I am also all for the temperatures dipping... I ran all winter this past year and as long as it isn't precipitating it's usually great for running... it also helped me tolerate the winter a lot more... I used to hate it so much!! Good news! no surgery needed for me it seems. I get official confirmation on Tuesday, but it seems my condition has cleared up so yah me!!! Only Me: Fantastic time for the half-marathon... it sounds like things worked out for you and you were adequately rested. I am guessing you did the one that is in QC. My fiance and I are thinking of doing that one next year (I haven't been up there since I was 2... was suppose to go there during secondary 4 <I think it's almost required in the Quebec school system>, but the trip was cancelled for dubious reasons). Cheers! Ali:) |
I don't know how you all keep up this running all the time. I did 8 miles this morning and thought my legs were going to fall off when I finished. I have been committed to my running plan but it's hard work!!
|
 @ Liz it is hard work isn't it?
|
...but worth it in the end right? :) I have a 5-k race coming up in a couple weeks and I know keeping that in mind as a goal is really helping.
|
Lizz -- YES, it is well worth it!!
Just finished an hour run, I guess it's about 10k give or take... I found it difficult at first because it had been 4 days since my last run, but once I got my second wind it was all good... I had a good weekend although I ate wayyyy too much, but it's a new week and almost a new month :faint: Can anyone believe how fast August has gone?? |
Ilene -- August has gone way too fast! What happened to summer already??
I'm at home in SoCal right now, and I have actually managed to get in my running! Today I went to a lake with a path around it and jogged about half an hour, and a couple days ago I jogged around my neighborhood. Yesterday was weights. Now I'm getting ready for a very long plane flight, and then I will try to go running at my hotel's gym during this conference I am going to. I think I might need new running shoes . . . I love my shoes, but sometimes the arch of my foot rubs too much on the arch support and I get blisters, and I have to stop running early. :( This doesn't always happen, I think it has to do with how tightly I tie my shoes. Hmmmm. |
PaperC -- If you've got 500-800k on your runners, it's time for a change... I didn't think I needed new ones but after 6 months and less than 500k, I got a new pair and what a difference that was...

Hey everybody,
I got to florida on sunday, I finally got off my lazy behind and ran this morning around mid-day, big mistake, Ony me I conceed, 10 degrees is much better weather for running. There is a neat park for running and exercising called the Health/Thera Trail about 30 minutes away from the house with lots of ducks and turtles, swans, geese and iguanas running around, after 15 minutes i was begging for 28 minutes to come so i could stop running and go home....lol I will definatly have to get up in the early morning if I'm to survive this heat, hopefully st. lucia will not be as hot. ( wishful thinking I know). I'm almost done the cp25k ( i would have been done already but I took days off when i was super tired and I've lost 20lbs since June whoo hoo!! |
I did 10k in 66 minutes on the treadmill this morning, I've not run since the middle of last week so I'm glad to get back into it :)
|
Had a lovely 3.5 mile run today. :) Bought a portable CD player and been loving it! I run faster when I listen to fast music.

lizzbabe you run 8 miles a day?????? Oh My gosh that's ALOT of running but I guess depending on your goal if that's what you have to do then so be it! I just don't see myself running that far anytime soon especially on a daily basis geesh!
Sugarbianca lol @ the heat comment. Yes I like running in cooler temps myself. And 20 lbs loss!?!? You are the BOMB you go girl!!! and remember to pace yourself in those runs don't wanna burn out too fast. sweatergirl I am overjoyed that you don't have to go into surgery * does victory dance for ali* great !!!!! Only Me thanks so much for the advice I am almost postive that this is true because I have been running a tid bit faster with weightloss. My 5k race time was 41:20 and the other day I went running on the trail in my nieghborhood and ran it in exactly 40 minutes flat! I was so happy about that. And yesterday morning I ran my 1 mile marker in 11 minutes instead of my usual 13 minutes woohoo yayy right? Thanks for the advice , and wow great times for your runs! Ilene it sounds like your run was great ! Well it's been raining domething terrible here but that hasn't stopped me from running I've been doing really Good! unfortunately my some internet service has been cut off so the only time I can get on is at work. So I haven't been updating lately but I'm still here and I'm still getting my running in girls keep up the awesome work! |
Hello everyone,
I must say, your accomplishments and dedication certainly are inspiring. I just started running about a week and a half ago, and I run a route that is roughly 2 miles long. I'm not even close to running the whole route yet, but it includes a lot of steep (and lengthy!) hills and on good days I can run just over half of it straight through before stopping to walk. For me, that is an accomplishment. I see the hills as a plus, because when I do manage to run all of them it really gives me a mental boost. Regaining some self confidence is going to be a huge issue for me right now. At this point, Im not too concerned about being able to run the entire route. I still feel good just having gotten out and made the effort, and when I do need to walk, I walk as fast as I can (and even in just a week and a half, I think my recovery times are already a little shorter). As long as my heart rate is staying up, I feel satisfied that I'm on the right track. Still tho, I can't wait until it is me who is posting that Ive just run 3 miles in 40 minutes, or ran a total of 2 hours (or something else similarly impressive). My personal challenge at the moment, in addition to the physical goals, is to keep running regularly and to make exercise a habit. I am easily distracted and have a very hard time really sticking to things, long term. So -- this is a beginning. Every day, I will keep plugging away at it. Keep up the excellent work, ladies; y'all are a huge inspiration :0) lilith |
thanks mrsdawson, this morning i was up at 6 at it was not blistering hot and sunny, but humid hot, better than last time, i even ran and extra minute after 28 minutes was up. next run will be my first 30 minute run!!1

Hi everyone! I have to say that this forum was the best thing for my running! It's made it easier for me to get out there every day. Next Saturday, I'm running my first 5K race in almost 5 years. I'm pretty excited, but nervous, too. I'm just hoping to break 30 minutes--I'm feeling pretty good, so hopefully I can do it! Reading everyone else's posts on their running accomplishments really have been motivational in keeping me going every day!
Laura |
MrsDawson--No I definitely don't run 8 miles everyday! Sunday is my long slow distance run.
Lilith--way to go on the running! the toughest part is starting up and soon you will be posting challenges of your own and the big smile on your face when you accomplish them! Laura--good luck on the 5-k! I am sure you will do just fine. I did my first 5-k in May and got a time of 26:21 so I have faith that you can break 30 min! Today I did 3.6 miles at a park with a friend. We realized that if we ran the route in the opposite direction as normal it seems completely different and time goes by much quicker. And when we run by a certain point we are forced to sprint because there are two mean geese that chase after us! Makes it interesting, that is for sure. |
