Hey guys, I just ran the whole 1.6 mile course without stopping Woohoo alright!!! Yeah baby. 21:39. And someone once told me a long time ago that after the first mile the running gets easier your breathing gets even and your muscles loosen up. I experienced that today and it was cool. I don't know why the first 3-4 minutes of running are just so hard for me LOL, maybe because i'm running uphill . I actually ran past my father leaving for work and waved at him. He doesn't know that i run in the mornings but now he knows Woohoo!!! I am soooo happy I did it and I wake up really early now with no problem at all, it used to be so hard to do now it's like a piece of cake! I started out running and just watching the moon. I love taking in my surroundings and the cracks in the ground and stuff it just makes me feel good to know that I can do this. This is monumental to me and I know I'll get stronger the more that I run. Thanks for the encouragement you guys are the best!!

Nillawafer escort or no you did it girl!! I'm so happy for you.

Ilene - wow I've never run against wind but I can definitely imagine how that feels but like you said a great workout it was!

Mrs Dawson....CONGRATS!! What a great way to start the day!!! YEs, I totally agree with you, the first few minutes are always the most difficult for me too, until I get into what I call "my stride or comfort zone" once I settle in I am good to go....For me I have markers when I run....at 3km, I get a cramp in my side....at 6km I start thinking I could run more than 10km, and by 7km I am thinking about food....8km, I am almost there, 9km I think of my kids and 10km I thank god its over....LOL

Happy Thursday everyone

It is going to RAIN ALL WEEKEND, so I bet I will be running in the rain...UGH!!

Leanne, good luck this weekend! Running in the rain isn't so bad and it's better than 30C and sunny. It's the wind that really gets me; somehow it slows me down while running into it much more than it helps me when it's at my back. And I love your explanation of what's going through your mind on a 10k run. Sounds very much like me. And around 15k on my long runs, I start to think that I'm totally insane, where's the bus home, etc. Then when I'm less that 1k from home, it goes back to what a great run that was and on arrival at home, thank god it's over for another week.

Ilene, can I use the 10k I'm running on June 5th as an excuse to be crabby all next week? Sounds good to me.

Mrs Dawson, awesome job this morning! More than 20 minutes straight running is no small achievement. And getting up early too. It sounds like you're hooked. One of my favourite parts of fall/winter running was watching the sun rise over the downtown part of the city I live in. I'm out the door at 6am now, but the sun's already up. It takes me about 10 minutes or so to get into running and find my pace, breathing rhythm, etc. I find that the further I run, the longer it takes to settle into it.

I ran 10k this morning, racing against the "virtual partner" function on my garmin. (It's nice to race against someone who'll always let you win and won't try to sprint ahead in the final 500m.) I set it for 55 minutes which is fast for me but not impossibly so, before I realized that the wind was STILL blowing quite strongly and gusting. But I kept ahead of the little guy on the screen for the entire 10k (although he did start catching up when I turned into the wind) and finished in 53:49. I'm running in a 10k race next month and I'm tempted to use the virtual partner to pace myself during it. I know I'm going to finish near the bottom of the pack, so I'm probably better of racing an imaginary person than trying to keep up with everyone else and burning out.

Default Way to go!

It is such an awesome feeling when you get to that point where you really feel like you can run.

Those first few minutes and sometimes the first mile are the worst, but it might help to remember that it goes away and you get into the grove where you feel fantastic.

Keep up the great work.......

Default Last 2 days

Just posting my workouts for the last two days:

Yesterday I did my first 10's: 10 min warmup, 10 minutes at a moderately fast pace and then a 10 minutes slow down. I am still getting up to speed so I broke up the main 10 minutes. 4 minute run/2 minute brisk walk/4 minute run.
Felt good and went by fast but I forgot to set the incline on my TM.

Today I did an easy 30 minute walk (3.0 w/ 1% incline) and then did strength training for 30 minutes. It is kind of nice that my longest days are really my easiest ones.

Leanne, Ottawa's a bit too far away for me to go for the day and I'd feel guilty dragging my whole family for a weekend away just so I could run a race. So, I'm settling for local races this summer. The races are smaller, but most of the participants are considerably faster than I am (based on results for the past couple of years).

I had a great run with a teacher at school today who will be running a half marathon in Ottawa on Saturday... I should run with someone more often I do so much better, today we ran straight 45 minutes non stop, I usually slow down a couple of times for thirty seconds or so when I'm alone. The last time I ran with her I had a difficult time keeping up but today at times I was going faster than her... I think we did about 8k, I'm not sure...

Everyone seems to be doing good, keep it up!

Ilene- Both your friend and my hubby will be doing the half....I honestly cannot imagine me ever being able to run so far....good for her! AND YOU for keeping up with her!

Only Me- I have to laugh, ottawa is about 1.5-2 hours away from me, BUT last year I was hoping to do this race, but found out I was prego so I stopped training in January.,...lol, so after having my daughter I said that I would do this and my hubby and mother in law said they would be there to watch the kids while I did the race...SO, I held them to it, and they held me to running the race....luckily, we were able to get a hotel room in downtown ottawa so we can stay overnight cuz hubby is running the half marathon on sunday...

Happy Thursday still!

I went to running club last night and a couple of the ladies were talking about the race in Ottawa this weekend. It is about 2 hours from here too.

The course for running club last night was 5.5K, but the ladies I was following took a wrong turn and we got a little lost, so we ended up doing about 6K.

Going to work out legs with my friend today. My hubby gave me a workout plan and it has a legs day... so we are going to do that.

My calf is really sore this morning. Ugh.

Hi all,

I've been out of the running for about a month but started back yesterday slowly - ran 2 miles. This morning I ran 3.5 miles and could have run longer but I had to get home shower and get to work. Running in the AM is so cool. Its not too hot, track isn't crowded and watching the sun come up over the stadium is an awesome sight. I felt a little like Forrest Gump!

Tiki.

Good morning everyone! Only 1 mile for me this morning, after that I did the stairmaster. I'm hoping that the weather will be okay Monday morning -- our gym is closed for Memorial Day so I can't use the indoor track. If it's nasty outside though, no run for me Monday. Well, at least it's supposed to be pretty nice Saturday and Sunday! We've been having the most awful weather the past couple days, it's like winter all over again!
