I worked out today and did a mini weigh in (just measure body fat, weight, and my waist) because I just could NOT take it anymore! I went all 6x this week and man do I feel good! In just 12 days, I lost 2 inches off of my waist, 6 lbs, and 1% body fat. It keeps me motivated! 3.5 of those lbs were fat. Yeah!!!

You guys are great! Keep Curving!

momX3 04-30-2005 07:42 PM

Awesome job lateralus!! That's impressive :D .

ItstimeforME 05-02-2005 08:42 AM

Happy Monday. I do like the weeks now instead of weekends I have more of a schedule with kids off to school and hubby at work I can get more workout time in LOL. Sundays kill me since curves is not open. I can't weigh this week Aunt Flo came so I know IM up in a couple pounds. BUT great job to the loss ya'll.

lateralus98 05-02-2005 08:53 AM

I did bad this weekend. I mean, I exercised on Saturday (took Sunday off) and i went out to eat both weekend nights!! Ahhh! I'll still try to salvage this diet, no matter what. I came too far to just throw it all away. I'll just keep telling myself that, and I'll feel better, right?? :(

lateralus98 05-02-2005 10:55 AM

Ok everything is okay -- i didnt gain any weight  i was really worried

didi123 05-02-2005 04:08 PM

Hello Hello everyone!!
Happy Monday. Well, I have quit smoking today. My husband & I have both quit and I'm having such a hard time. It's been 17 hours since my last cigarette and that's all I can think about today. I have the "patch" on, but I'm literally going crazy...
Going to Curves tonight, so I'm hoping that it will take some of the "edge" off...I keep telling myself it's the best thing to do for me/us....
You all seem to be doing great with working out/eating....I still need to get the eating under control, but I'm going 3x week which was my first goal and I can't wait to be measured on the 11th of this month. I know I haven't really lost any weight, but I'm sure that I've lost inches.
Well.....gotta get back to work....thanks for listening..

Di

momX3 05-02-2005 04:22 PM

Hey didi - I am so proud of you :bravo:. Giving up smoking is one of the hardest things you can do. I smoked for 8 years and finally gave it up when I became pregnant for the first time. You are doing such a wonderful thing for yourself and for your family. And think of the money you will save :cb:.

DON'T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF. YOU CAN DO IT GIRL!!!

ellenuw 05-02-2005 04:39 PM

Good luck Didi - quitting smoking is the hardest thing I have ever done (after 28 years). The patch didn't work for me - I used the lozenges and liked the control and choice it gave me. Just remember, the worst of it is over after Day 3 - you can do this!!

lateralus98 05-02-2005 06:28 PM

Good luck! I know it's hard -- but just keep up with it! :bravo:

ItstimeforME 05-03-2005 06:53 AM

Keep positive DI, I quit in August of 03 and I smoked a pack a day for at least 18 years and did it cold turkey. The first few days are hard, but you will be amazed how good your feeling even after a week. You can do it. We will be your cheering crowd for you.

didi123 05-03-2005 11:21 AM

Thanks you guys!!! I appreciate your support....it's now been 36 hours and I'm feeling anxious, but I'm determined this time...it helps to see that some of you have done it with great success and I know that it's the right thing to do. Thanks for being my "cheering crowd" as Kelly put it...
I went to Curves last night and the owner & I were talking about the smoking thing. She quit cold turkey a few years ago. I did notice that working out helped me alot last night. Although my husband and I both fell asleep on the couch last night after eating crazy (pizza)...I couldn't stop eating...but I know it's smoking related. I would always have a cig after eating and since there was pizza there instead, it just kept on eating....thank God I've joined Curves and this group.....I will need the motivation from you guys to keep going...
So...how is everyone else doing?

ncjenni 05-03-2005 12:14 PM

I joined curves about 2 months ago. I loved going but my ankles were REALLY hurting and started to swell........ VERY BAD!!!! On Easter I went to the emergency room and found that I had torn all of the LIGAMENTS in BOTH legs. Yes BOTH legs. The doctor told me that EVERYTHING that adjoined to my achiles was TORN! Also I had tendenitous. I went in and told the people at Curves and we realized that the leg press is what caused this problem. I am 5'11" and the trainer failed to tell me the machine was designed for a 5'5" person and that I needed to put a cushion in between my legs for it to work properly on me. Needless to say.... I loved CURVES, but now I am in the recovery stage of my injury and I am TERRIFIED to go back!!!

didi123 05-03-2005 03:47 PM

Hi Ncjenni,
Wow....that happened due to the leg press machine? I'm almost 5'10" and I've been using it without any problems...what do they mean by using a cushion between your legs? What did the doctor say about returning to a gym? You can always just skip that machine if you think that's the one that gave you the trouble. Anyone else have any suggestions for her?

Di

lateralus98 05-03-2005 06:46 PM

I can't believe it! Wow...I'm sorry to hear about that ncjenni. Definitely consult your physician before (and if) you ever decide to return to Curves. It's a great gym, don't get me wrong, you just don't want to take the risk!

Yea I have already spoken with my doctor and a specialist. He suggested NOT for me to go back to Curves. The cushion they are speaking of is like a foam piece of something. They said to put it in between your legs as you are lifting up the leg machine. I don't think it was the leg press... I'm not sure what it is called but it is the machine that you put your feet under and pull up. The machine should be around your ankle, but instead it was at my shins. That is why it tore the ligaments. I don't know what to do except STARVE myself... only kidding. I enjoy working out and I felt full of energy when I was going to Curves. Everyone seemed REALLY nice and I truly miss it. Any suggestions.?!?!?!?

momX3 05-04-2005 10:57 AM

ncjenni - Sorry about what happened to you :( . I know which machine you are talking about the taller ladies at my curves use the cushion. I wish that you had been told about it.

Maybe you should talk to your doctor and ask what would be safe for you to do so this won't happen again. Are you comfortable walking? If you are I would start there.

THANKX momX3. I love to walk but the I just went to the "specialist" last week and he told me to take ANOTHER MONTH OFF! I couldn't believe it. I am only 32 years old and I feel like I am falling apart! I truly LOVED CURVES and I may consider going again sometimes. I was originally a memeber of the YMCA but I felt uncomfortable there because TOO MANY MEN with EYE PROBLEMS. I really liked the "female only" gym and we do have 2 other "female only" gyms in my area. I just love the "30 MINUTE WORKOUT". I don't know what I am going to do. I am doing WW from home and I have a Windsor Pilates tape at home, but I have a 3 year old that wants to pounce on me when I am lying in the floor trying to excersise. I don't know what to do?!?!??! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

ItstimeforME 05-04-2005 11:55 AM

Sorry to hear about that, I hope it all works our for you. Hang in there get well first then take the next step. Can't rush your healing process and you want to heal right.

I went this morning Im down another pound. ONLY 2 more till I hit an even 40 lost.

momX3 05-04-2005 01:22 PM

Kelly YOU ROCK GIRL :cheer:. You should do something special for yourself when you reach that 40 lost cause you deserve it :D/

didi123 05-04-2005 04:53 PM

Hi Everyone..
Ncjenni....I figured out what machine you are talking about..it's the leg extension. I have to use the pillow thingy when I use it. I'll have to make sure I'm careful with that one from what happened to you. I wish I had some answer as to what else you should do...maybe once you are healed, you can take it at an easier pace and not do the machines that aggrevate your legs.. best of luck to you..

Kelly....awesome!! weigh to go!!!
You are my inspiration!!!!

Well...I'm 3 days off the butts....and eating everything in sight...lol....crawling out of my skin, but I hope it gets better..
Off to Curves tonight..can't wait...

Ciao for now..
Di

ellenuw 05-04-2005 05:38 PM

Hey, ncjenni - don't take NO for an answer. If your doctor doesn't want you to do Curves ask him for an alternative. I'd demand he refer me to a physical therapist (at least 3 sessions) and learn a routine that is right for you. It just burns me that they can say "do do this" but don't fill in with "do this instead". ARRGGG!! Stand up for yourself and your health and your well being *rant over - sorry*

almostheaven 05-04-2005 11:01 PM

I've heard so much about Curves at this site but had no idea what it was. Then I got a Curves coupon in my ValPak mailing last week. I hung onto the coupon and finally gave them a call today and went in this afternoon to get the tour. I also did a tour of Bally Fitness. I'm used to the club exercises myself, but being pregnant right now, I can't do my favorite, which is running on the treadmill. Running just jiggles my tummy too much and is uncomfortable.

Anyway, I left Curves thinking I was going to go to Bally's and pay the $5 10 day trial fee. But halfway there, I did a 180. So tomorrow, I'm going back to sign up for Curves and get started. Bally requires a 3 year committment, and I'm worried I won't put much effort in if all I can do is walk the treadmill. But with Curves, it doesn't bother my tummy and yet still gave me a good workout. And it's only a year contract. By then, the baby will be here and I could be back to my running and may decide then to go on over to Bally.

didi123 05-05-2005 04:22 PM

Good Luck almostheaven.....I think you will (rephrase that...I know you will) Love Curves...
ncjenni...I agree with ellen....you must go to PT....they will show you what you can do and might even be able to modify your Curves workout if you choose to continue going...
Well everyone....it's my 4th day smoke free and still having a tough time...still eating everything in sight, but I DID go to Curves last night...taking 1 hour at a time..
How's everyone else doing?
Di

ItstimeforME 05-06-2005 10:49 AM

Just got back from working out. NOT to intense today I have to go to a mothers day tea at my daughters preschool and no time to shower. I will make up tomorrwo Im doing step at 8am then curves so I will work my butt off.
The only thing that gets me sometimes with curves is the music. I have become so well known at mine I just say what is up with this music and the girls will change it for me lol. Plus they need to switch our machines around again it is time for change. Later gals have a great weekend.

almostheaven 05-06-2005 12:35 PM

They play a lot of 80's at the one I went to and she told me that we can always ask them to change it if we don't like what they're playing. But being an 80's gal, I think it's great.

Hi Didi -on a side note: I quit smoking last sept after reading Allen Carr's "The only way to stop smoking permanently". He's a terrible writer, and more than a little chauvanistic, but I was a long-time chain smoker & I quit with never a craving! Well, sometimes I want to smoke just to be like everyone else around me, but never a nic fit and never gained an ounce. I can't recommend this book highly enough. But you'll have to make allowances for the writing and be very open minded about his convoluted writing style. Other than that it was easy - and I wasn't sure it would work til I put out that last cigarette, and I KNEW I would NEVER smoke again. Weird but wonderful! Good luck! I always tell myself that if I could quit smoking I could lose weight no problem. When I smoked I would have happily traded ALL my food for smokes.

ellenuw 05-06-2005 02:16 PM

I'm with you, gg - I say that quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done (Apr 2003). Losing weight is just time consuming!

almostheaven 05-06-2005 07:59 PM

I found the all-fire cure for quitting smoking. Works perfectly. You max out your credit cards on cigarettes when you're out of work until you finally decide you HAVE to quit because you can't pay for it anymore.

Worked for me anyway. LOL

momX3 05-07-2005 02:20 PM

I went to curves yesterday and could'nt stand it anymore :dizzy: . I had to weigh :goodscale . So since April 22 I have lost 6 lbs. I actually had my first weigh in in the morning and did this one in the afternoon so I hope it's more ;) .

didi123 05-09-2005 11:16 AM

Thanks for your support everyone...today is Day 8 of non-smoking....eating like crazy, but still no butts...thanks gg for the info on the book, I might have to check it out..
MomX3...congrats to you !!! I have my w & m this week, which I know isn't going to be pretty, since I've been eating out of control, but I'm expecting it, so I shouldn't be so shocked..
Going to Curves tonight...I can honestly say..I love it...
Good luck everyone..
Di

lateralus98 05-10-2005 05:24 PM

Hey all....have been so off track with dieting, but as far as Curves is concerned, I've been going 5 - 6X a week. So that's good. I haven't gained, nor have I lost. That's good news to me! I need to get back into gear now!!

lateralus98 05-10-2005 05:26 PM

I pledge I won't step on that damn scale until May 21st!! (my w & m day) I'm a scale addict!!!

KAR73 05-11-2005 03:39 PM

Hi Ladies,
I have been going to Curves since Dec. 29,2003. I love it very much. I have lost 29 pounds and 17 inches so far. I go three times a week after school. It helps me destress after teaching my Multihandicapped students all day. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids dearly. They can just be a little challenging some days. Every weekday morning during the school year, I get up at 5:30 and do a 2 mile walking video by Leslie Sansone before getting ready for work. Then I try to either go for a walk or ride my bike in the evenings when I don't go to the gym. So that is a little bit about me. I am glad to see the forum up and running again. I use to post on the old one but people stopped posting and I quit coming to this site to check. Glad I did come today. I will keep coming back now.
Well I better go and get some work done. I am here at school until 5:45 and then off to Curves for a quick workout before going to my twin stepsons' baseball game at 7. I might be a few minutes late but atleast I will be able to say that I was there.
Check back with you all later.
Take care,
Kerry

didi123 05-12-2005 09:13 AM

Hi Everyone..
KAR...welcome back....
Sunny.....I'm a scale addict too..haha...stay away..
Well, it's now 10 days of non-smoking...eating my way up the scale..
Went to Curves last night and had my first W&M...it wasn't pretty..
I have gained 6 lbs (due to not smoking and eating junk)...only lost 1/2 inch off my arms and 1/2 inch off my waist..everything else stayed the same. I knew this was going to happen and I'm not discouraged....just have to focus on eating right now...
I can only imagine how much I would have weighed if I didn't go to Curves..YIKES!!!
Time to buckle down.....now that the cravings for cigs are getting better...
Ciao for now..
Di

momX3 05-12-2005 05:42 PM

didi - I am so proud of you for not smoking :cb: and you are right about your w/m. Now that your cravings are getting better you can start to focus more on your diet but getting the smoking under control was SO-OOO important. You must feel better. GOOD FOR YOU :cheer:

Iwunder01 05-12-2005 06:20 PM

Hi All!!

I'm new to this site, but I'm a long time Curves member. So much that I have gotten my mom, mil, sil, and best friend to join. I love curves. I made a goal this year to work out 150 times. About 3 times a week. Well I'm almost at 75 times this year.

Can't wait to get to know all you ladies!!

KAR73 05-13-2005 08:05 AM

Hi All,
Well I made it to Curves last night and put in another good sweaty workout. I think I might have to do that again today. I took a personal day to spend time with my hubby for my birthday on Sunday. Well he started a new job this week and has to work today. Which is fine with me, I understand that part. But when he told me last night that he was going to work extra hours today, since I was home to get his three young children off the bus, that just kind of hurt me a little. Don't get me wrong, I love my twin stepsons' and stepdaughter. But there are times when I would just like to spend a little bit of quiet time with my hubby. I don't get to see or spend much time with him in the evenings because of me still teaching and he down at the baseball fields all the time. Then to put the icing on the cake so to speak, he told me that I was going to have to pick up the house and clean it today, since we have to have an appraisal done on our house for our home improvement loan. That wouldn't have ticked me off that bad if he didn't put on there the last comment he did. Which was if you want to go hiking tomorrow afternoon with the kids and me for your birthday, you need to clean the house today. What a lovely thing to do on my day off from school. So I guess if I get the house clean I am going to need to go and blow off my steam at Curves this afternoon. Enough venting from me. Sorry it has been quite a week at school with my teen-aged special needs students who have been rebelling this week about doing work.
Didi congrats on quitting smoking. I bet it has been tough going there for a few days. But it sounds like you are well on your way to better health! Have you tried chewing a piece of gum instead of eating? That might help your food cravings.
Iwunder01, welcome to our group! So if you make you goal of 150 times, what are you going to reward yourself with? Besides a fitter body and better health! :)
Hope everyone else is having a wonderful day!
I better go and get started on cleaning the house. Atleast once I get it done than it is done. But my dh is going to be the one to clean it after his kids spend the weekend with us and mess it up again. They are really good at taking food and walking around with it to eat it. Then leave their plates, wrappers and glasses whereever. Plus they love to play with things and then drag out a ton of toys and sports equipment and leave it lay whereever. But if I say or ask them to pick up after themselves, their daddy says that I am being mean and need to pick up after them. But I was taught growing up if you played with it or eat, drank out of it you put it back in the right place. I was doing this when I was 5 years old, it taught responsiblity. His children are 7 and 9. So I think they are old enough to pick up after themselves, since they have to do that at school anyway. It is that TOM for me and I feel crappy and moody. So I think it just going to be one of those weekends!
Well you all have a wonderful weekend!
Take care,
Kerry

didi123 05-13-2005 10:39 AM

Hi Everyone...
Wow KAR....happy birthday....aren't men funny? They just don't get how they sound sometimes...
Welcome Iwunder....congrats on joining the group...sometimes it's a bit slow, but we are here...actually til I get my computer hooked up at home, I'm only here during the week from work...(hope they don't catch me haha)
Going to Curves tonight....trying to keep the eating under control a bit...day 12 of not smoking....
Thanks to all for the encouragement..it really keeps me going...

Di

momX3 05-13-2005 11:34 AM

Kar - Happy Birthday :hb: :hat: :gift: :woo:. It's to bad dh is not being more supportive but that's just the way men are. You are right the kids should be picking up after themselves and not having them do it is not doing them any favors. I would tell dh if he does'nt want them to clean it up he can do it.

Didi - Glad to hear your holding strong :D .

KAR73 05-13-2005 11:00 PM

Well the house is cleaned. It took me 10 hours to clean our house today. It was so dirty from the kids' walking around in their ball cleats and my hubby in his grass covered clothes from work. Needless to say, I didn't make it to Curves today. But I did blow off my steam while cleaning. It did get me taken out for dinner tonight too. So I guess it wasn't all that bad. My dh did tell me when he got home from work that the house looked nice. He did tell the kids after we got home from dinner that they were not to trash up the house this weekend. So maybe he is finally starting to realize they are old enough to pick up after themselves after all. He did come back this morning after only being gone for about 10 minutes to tell me he didn't want to make me mad this morning and he came to check on me. Which I thought was sweet, since he normally doesn't care what he does to people. Thank you all for my birthday wishes. Plus thank you for letting me vent this morning. I needed to do that or I would have let it boil inside of me all day long and then let my dh have it when he got home.
I have put everyone on notice that tomorrow morning, I am going to Curves. So they will have to do without me for a little while in the morning.
Well I better go and get ready for bed. I am really tired tonight. Atleast I will sleep good tonight.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
Take care,
Kerry
