Default Question for steppers

Up until about 5 years ago, I was a step aerobics fanatic. About a month ago, I started again, with great results. However, yesterday one of my knees started hurting all the time. It's the upper part of my knee. I did my easiest step tape this morning, and it hurt a little with some steps, but for most of the workout, I was painfree. I'm not sure if stepping is what caused my knee to start hurting (I also started walking 7-12 flights of steep stairs everyday at work last week). I'm worried, though, about injury, if I continue. Any advice? Thanks!

I have been stepping also and I have never had knee problems, maybe your step is too high? or maybe you are not putting your entire foot on the step? Either way do overwork yourself because knees are something you can't really afford to injure, especially in an intense cardio workout. Have a great day.

How often are you stepping? I've had bum knees since I was 14 and have to be very careful of them. When I have tried to step every day, it bothers me so I do step on alternate days.

How many risers are you using? Have you recently increased them? Have you been doing any impact moves on the step? The steep stairs definately could have caused the problem. Since you just started back stepping, make sure you are starting slowly because injuring your knee can really screw things up.. trust me on this one.

Try either reducing the number of risers, doingt he routine w/o a step even and maybe for a few days not climbign the steep stairs. Through trial and error you should get a good idea of what the culprit is. If this doesn't get better, do go see a doctor.

Thanks for your replies! I'm happy to report that I've stopped walking up the steep stairs, and my knees are back to normal. So much for good intentions!
