Ladies,
I read through your thread and was so motivated by your excitement! I have seen the DDR system at the arcades, but really didn't "get into it". I also had read some articles about weight loss with the system, but we didn't have a PS2 to use, so I just went about my business. Well at Christmas my brother pulled this game out and we laughed and competed for several hours... it was so much fun!!! My husband and I spent the remainder of the week looking for a system, which we found at best buy and purchased the game. We ended up buying the DDR2Max because my brother has the DDR Extreme... both have good music and are a TON of FUN! I too got the non-slip pads due to the lack of storage space & $$$... I've only gotten to play a few times (since hubby has taken over the PS2 w/ his Dukes of Hazzard game!) haha!!! I'm hoping to get more play time in now that the holidays are through... time to get serious. I'm really glad to see this thread... I'd love to keep updated on everyones progress!!! Lots of luck to you all!!!

Enquiring minds want to know - Which pads did you choose?

MichelleRae 01-03-2005 07:57 PM

Kel, thats great that you are loving DDR!! It's awesome! I'm so addicted to it! It really is a great way to have fun with the family and get some exercise too!

Jennifer, did you ever get the game? Come on girl its a blast!!!

I keep putting it off until I pick pads. I know, I need to just buy them! My son's birthday is next month, so he's going to get it for his b-day.

I am new here, but in all honesty - it was this Dance Revolution thingy that got me to think - HEY, maybe this will make it possible to actually make a REAL life change. I am not a big eater, I just have absolutely NO activity in my life. I work at a computer. I drive. I even order most of my groceries online. So the only time I get this body to move is walking from my computer to my kitchen to my bedroom and occasionally out to the car.

BUT ... I love to dance. I also hate to exercise when I am fat. I bought my boys Dance Revolution for Christmas. I used it for the first time on New Years Eve when a friend brought her Dance thingy over and our boys (my 2 and her 3) competed. They then talked "the moms" into trying it.

I danced for 45 minutes yesterday. And I have been on it three times today - 20 minutes each time. I love it. I started in beginner mode, with the song "only you," which has a great, easy to hear beat. I went up to light mode today, and did an 84 combo (thats 84 steps in a row correctly). The game said "You hit a new record," my kids were "totally" impressed. (so was I, but don't tell them I said that) I also love it that it cheers when you get it right, and when you are done, the game says things like, "You are incredible" and "I love to watch you dance."

There is some kind of work out tracking tool on the game, but I don't know how to use it - but who cares, as long as I am doing it.

Its great fun. My kids want to buy a second mat so that we can do the really advanced "two mat" routines. I think I'll see if I can master this one first.

Serenity, I'm so glad that you have found your motivation!! This game is so much fun you don't even notice that you are exercising! Keep us updated on your progress, and welcome to 3fc!!!

:cb: DDR is great! IF you do it long enough, you get a decent work out. But I figure, just getting your rump off the couch and getting some blood circulating is worth something ;)

In our Mall we have an arcade. There are always guys in there busting a move on DDR and they are AWESOME! I'm thinking they either play all the time at home or spend A LOT of money in the arcade!

Hey Jennifer,
I actually went over to gamestop and bought the non-slip pads that plug into your system. They work just fine for me. I figure too, before you go out and spend a ton of money on the system you may want to try it out and see if you even like it.... I know, dumb comment because you are going to LOVE IT!!! The small non-slip pads were $19.99 at Gamestop (they have wireless ones at Best Buy) but I didn't like the wireless because as you are jumping around and dancing sometimes the pad moves around... you would lose connection to the system with the wireless mode.

My suggestion- IF you have a Ton of room and are really ready to invest money in the system, then go out and purchase the heavy metal type-you won't go wrong with that, if you want to get going with the game and have the ability to put it away when you are done with it then go buy the non-slip pads. If you don't like the pads that you get, you can always return them and buy the bigger ones. Or, if you are debating between the thin non-slip pads and the thick foam pads, buy one of each and return the one you don't like.

Hello all!!

Thanks for all of the great info DDR! We have 3 PS2's (hubby's, MINE & kids) ;) .. I have since put mine down (was a Socom2 gamer), when I decided to get my life back in shape.. I figure the time I spent on Socom2 could easily be spent on dancing (which I love to do) and best of all, losing weight!

I have a question:
Can someone tell me what are some samples of the music it plays?
For some reason, music plays a very important role in giving me that extra "umph" to workout. lol..

Thanks in advance!

MichelleRae 01-04-2005 02:42 PM

Nylah, DDR extreme has club type music, so if you enjoy going dancing at the clubs or that kind of music gets you going then you would love it! I know I do!

kelady 01-04-2005 04:32 PM

It also has some oldies...

DDR 2 has "In the Navy", "Let's Groove Tonight", "Get Down Tonight", "Twlight Zone" , "Days Go By" etc.

DDR Extreme has "YMCA", "Bizarre Love Triangle", "Ladies Night", "Like a Virgin", "Never Ending Story", "Waiting for Tonight" etc.

those songs are known, others are more club-like (as stated above)... but are a TON of fun... I LOVE the Conga Song from DDR2!!!

Are you debating on buying the system? If you are, I'd buy the Extreme version... it seems to have more songs on it, however DDR2MAX is also a good choice if you can't find the Extreme. Good luck!!!

FrugalChick 01-04-2005 05:07 PM

I LOVE the whistle song...even though I know what the 'whistle' is...it's got a great beat!

Jennifer 3FC 01-05-2005 12:03 AM

I bought the DDR Extreme Bundle yesterday. It comes with free 2-day Fed-Ex shipping, (chumba.com) so it should be here tomorrow. However, it is disguised as a birthday present for my son, so I don't know whether to wait until Feb, or just give it to him now as a 'just because' present. I think I should just give it to him. :D

I'll let you know what I think about it! It only comes with one pad in the bundle, right?

Shalynn 01-05-2005 11:36 AM

Thanks for the info, ladies! I believe the DDR Extreme is the newest one out (correct me if I'm wrong).. and I plan on buying it from Gamestop this weekend..

Shalynn
