Good Morning Gang!

Sarah - THANKS!

SunnyD - yes I think I have a heel spur or plantar fasciitis (and is more common in people with thyroid conditions - I did not know that til I did some looking on the internet) and boy is it bothering me, but I read up on how to treat it and I'm trying to make it better. The only problem is that it says to "stop running or walking" but goes on to say that aerobic activity is important to maintain but to try biking or swimming until it heals up. I don't have a bike or a place to swim. But I've been babying it and will see how it goes.

Amy - your cats are BEAUTIFUL!

This morning I got early (couldn't sleep) and did a 45 minute 3 mile WATP w/2 lb weights, and then 50 situps.

October Miles = 11

hugs,
cathy

Well I have recently been reading you thread and I am looking to jump in for November. I have been walking lately. In truth I wish it burned more calories but I love getting out in the fresh air.

I had an emothinally bad 18 months last year and I am on the up side of felling out of it. I came out the other end and relized that I had not taken care of myself and i had gained...well more than I should have.

So I am back on track. I have an eliptical and I will more than likely swich to that when the weather gets too cold to deal with....

In the meantime I live in an area with sidewalks and have found a few 4,5,6 mile walks. Unfortunately I walk slowly, the good news is I have listen to a ton of audio books....

Nice to meet you all, hello to cathy :0 I hope I can jump in for next month.

Good Morning L and *Welcome* to our thread ~ you can jump in NOW if you would like. We'd love to have you join us... :smug:

I too walk rather slow, but at least we are doing something, right ;) I am so sorry to hear that you had such a rough time last year, but glad to hear you are back *on track* :cp: Good for you!

Hi Cathy ~ Do take care of that heel... it takes spurs a long time to heal and if you don't rest it - even longer. I wish you well in your recovery (((Hugs))) You are like me in that before I go to a Dr. for anything I will look the info up on the net first and see what can be done and then if what I do doesn't work off to the Dr. I will go. Most times I am successful... I wish that for you as well :^:

Hey everyone,..

I have been doing a mile a day over the last few days. Today I did my one mile Leslie dvd. I have never been able to do the whole thing before and I am sooo happy about that. I had just been doing a mile of 2 mile dvd and today decided to try the one mile again just for the heck of it. When I started this back in august, I could only do about 5 minutes of the dvd and today I finished the whole thing-23 minutes!!!!

Thanks for the compliment on the pic Sunny. I *think* I can tell a bit,.. I swear if ididnt have the pics I wouldnt think i had gotten anywhere at all. I really do need to buy a tape measure the next time i go to walmart.

I ordered Leslie Sansone "You can do yoga" as a reward for my one mile dvd accomplishment. Im skeptical whether or not I will be able to do it,.. I think I may be way too fat and way too unflexible for it, but I have to give it a try,.right? I also got a 5lb barbell (hubby only bought one,..LOL) so I am going to get that in gear too :-)

seemzy 10-26-2004 05:02 PM

Hey all!!! I'm new to this board. I would love to join you here if you don't mind :). I just started walking (yesterday), I decided that this week I'm going to walk a mile everyday. Basically I get a ride to school and then instead of getting picked up I walk home and it's a little bit more then a mile. I walked home in the RAIN yesterday!!! Today I'll be walking home as well. So 1 mile for me today :)

gabwill 10-26-2004 07:51 PM

well I got 5 miles in today which is good. That brings my total for the month up to 52!!! Horray for me. I am so excited about making it to this point.

lessofsarahtolove 10-26-2004 09:49 PM

 new folks! WELCOME!

I did the 2-mile WATP after walking 2 1/2 miles in my office today! (I really try to get in extra steps wherever I can, and intentionally make extra trips or walk the perimeter of the office whever possible. It's taken some EFFORT to get up to that level! ) FYI, I just include focused, intentional, "exercise" walking in my siggy totals below, since that's a real area of focus for me.

L144S 10-27-2004 06:40 AM

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I did a 3 mile walk yesterday and plan on a longer walk this morning before I have to go to work this afternoon...Looks like a beautiful day in Sox country!

Good Morning Gang!

L144S!!!! it is so good to see you here! I am so thrilled that you are gonna join us in the walking! It really is good exercise - good for your body and soul I think! I am so sorry you've been having a tough 18 months - I did know this! I miss chatting with you so! and look forward to catching up with you here! where are you working? were you working before? I can't recall.

And hey - did you notice that I have finally started losing a few pounds! HOORAY! yep, I'm on 2 grains of armour thyroid a day for my low thyroid (may even increase it to 3 grains), taking phentermine (which my dr feels is necessary at this point with my low thyroid) and took myself off of birth control pills (which I actually think may have made the biggest difference at this point). I found out that they increase your glucose levels which make you hungry (and especially crave sugar, which I was having a huge problem with) and also that they make you retain fluid, and I really think they were affecting me more then I realized. First month off of them I felt really odd (almost menopausal), but now I feel GREAT off of them!!!!!

SunnyD - that is the cutest picture of your cats! and yes - I do a lot of reading on the internet and in books before seeing a dr. My son has a chemical imbalance and a very low thyroid. I also have low thyroid problems (which I recently found out that heel spurs and foot pain are a part of), so I do a lot of reading myself before getting with the dr. Right now I think the only other thing a dr could do for my foot is to give me anti inflamatory drugs, and I can just take ibuprofen myself. Well the only other thing is the dr would probably tell me to stay off of it, and I'm not ready to do that yet, and it is a little better since I started doctoring it myself. ;)

Heather - MAJOR CONGRATS on doing the whole 1 mile! I think that is a better measure of your accomplishments then even a scale or measuring tape would be! YOU GO GIRL!

Welcome Seemzy! glad to have you here! that's determination walking in the rain! I have done that several times myself! YOU GO GIRL!

Gabrielle - you are walking like crazy! that's awesome! YOU GO GIRL! do you ever deal with any footpain with that much walking???

Hey Sarah - another walking like crazy woman huh! YOU GO GIRL!

Everybody is doing great!

I, of course, limped thru my day yesterday after walking those 3 miles yesterday morning, so I've got on my good walking tennis shoes today, and will only do the walking I have to do at Sam's Club this afternoon when I and dh go and buy our groceries for the winter. Believe me, that is several hours of walking.

Hope everybody has a blessed day!

hugs,
cathy

Nice to see you too cathy!

I work at the kids school. Wed is library day! woo hoo! Can't complain. It keeps me busy, i get to see the kids durring the day and the admin. gets to see that I am willing to rise to the challenge. I also do tech support for the parents committee which is an ongoing thing. Right now I am working on getting the new auction program up and running. We purchased a new program and I have played a little bit and now it is time to runa mock auction and see what kind of repotrs and meterials I can get out of it...

I did an hour on the eliptical this morning. i am wondering what the convertion of srtides to miles is. If anyone knows please do tell!

I plan to go for a walk while the kids are at karate,. I have a little more than an hour and we have good sidewalks and I am listening to a good book.

I do lisen to a a lot of audio books so if anyone has some suggestions I am always looking....

Ok have to get going..happy walikng!

Good Wednesday Afternoon Gals!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...eLittleMan.jpg

 *Welcome* to our walking thread Seemzy! I think you will enjoy our little corner of the world... there are some really great gals here, if I do say so myself ;) Although, I must say... there hasn't been one person here in the 3fatchicks site that I haven't enjoyed! Looks like you are off to a great start :cp:

Thanks Amy ;) Cute new shoes!!! Been shopping I see :^:

Hi L ~ I have an elliptical also and I usually can get in a mile in 7 - 8 minutes on it... I think you put in some miles today! I do both... switching on and off. It's too much for me to do the elliptical all the time - it grabs me in the left hip for some reason. But when I do the T-Mill for a couple days and then the elliptical once or twice a week it doesn't bother me.

Hi Cathy ~ :thanks: I think they are adorable too... I adore all animals and the laughter they bring into our lives.

The thyroid is sure an interesting little gland, isn't it! I have often wondered if mine is under active and is just not showing up on the blood test... some days for no reason at all I am so tired! Exhausted kind of tired... I found an article about it (with some daily foods to help) in one of my women's magazines, so I am going to give their food plan a try (working with my IBS food plan) and see if my energy level picks up. I am so sensitive to sugars!!! If I have a splurge I really pay that evening & next day... makes me wonder why I do it to begin with, ya know

:cheer: Cheers for Sarah, Heather, Gabrielle, Cathy, L & Seemzy for a job well done! :cheer:
(Hope I didn't leave anyone out :o )

Those kitties are so sweet!! You just want to keep staring at the computer and say "awww" :) :) :)
My cat acts like a "purr-sonal" trainer (Pardon the pun :D ). Whenever I use the bike or treadmill down in the basement, she comes down to supervise!
I have stepped up the walking over the last month or so. It's just over 1.5 miles one way, to work, so I have been walking to and from work, as well as on breaks. I sort of "cheated" today and took the bus home because it was extremely cold and windy, and I already had a sinus headache and didn't want to make it worse by walking into a head wind. As soon as I log off, I will get my little bum moving on the :tread: !
It's amazing to see how your fitness level picks up, now I can pass teeangers walking to school--on a hill :lol3:

 *Welcome* Djcat ~ Thanks... my Zeppe likes to coach me while I am on the T-Mill too and attempts to jump up on my console, sometimes I worry about him - he also tries to hop on the T-Mill with me! :o I have to really watch him... he hasn't grasped that it will hurt when he jumps on and then hits the wall behind me :stars:

So... how many miles do you have in for the month so far? Or have you just begun? You don't sound like a beginner, but I thought I'd ask ;) Good job on the miles you walk to work and back :cp: :cheer: Congrats on your weight loss too!!! :bravo:

Welcome, djcat! Great group of women here -- I think you're going to love it.

Sunny, if I didn't think it would be an act of betrayal to my own sweeties, I swear I'd put that pic on my home laptop's desktop! TOO, TOO, TOOOOOOO adorable! And that next one is lovely too. I just love that we have animal lovers here, and that the kitty parents are sharing some pic's! I'm going to have to come up with something myself to share my own babies with the group.

Today I managed to get in 2 miles during the day (in my office) and then when I came home, I got in 6 miles in 20 minutes with HIIT (high intensity interval training) biking, then immediately did the 3-mile WATP workout, followed by an upper body workout with free weights. Whew! (I think I made up for not working out yesterday! DP sidetracked me. It was her first day eating healthy - she just started a diet - so when I came home it was ALL about the dinner, if you know what I mean! )

Okay, Sarah and all you other gals...

I went for another 1.25 miles today and then took 30 min. of stretching time too. Not as much as you gals are doing, but more then I have been. I have been afraid to push too hard for fear of another flare-up, but since I am feeling pretty good these days I went just a bit more then the usual :)

Sarah... where's your ticker tracker :?: I see it now... you updated it :D

Sunny, you're such a sweetheart, I swear! :goodvibes -- I can't tell you how much your support means to me. It's just SO motivational, and it just plain makes me HAPPY! Great job on amping up your movement -- sounds like you're in tuned with your body and know how hard to push yourself -- I'm happy for you!

Yup, I'm now down 70 pounds, with another 70 to go. I'm pretty darned excited, I must say, because even though this 3rd mini-goal took longer to reach, I know that the cause was slacking on the exercise. That's been my greatest struggle all along, and I really feel like I've made such progress in making time each day to getting it in. Not only was it harder before to summon the motivation to actually DO it, but when I was successful in doing that, my partner would sidetrack me to do something else instead -- not because she didn't want me to succeed, she just wanted me to make dinner, or hang out with her, or something else that was simply what she wanted. So, we've gotten over that through some heart-to-hearts, and I feel like I've turned some sort of corner in terms of EXPECTING to exercise every day, and actually enjoying it while it's happening! I just feel so positive about where I am in this process; I'm brimming with optimism and just an overall feeling of well-being. The asthma has been a real challenge, but not an obstacle, and that's the most important thing. Thank God for prescriptive support, eh? With it, I see continued success and steady progress. Life is, indeed, SO good!

Djcat 10-28-2004 07:12 PM

Thanks for the welcome, SunnyD and LessofSarahtolove! That is another cute cat picture :)
This morning, after being on a plateau for the last four weeks, I saw that one more pound is now gone!! :cheer: I just take it one day at a time, because it took about 20 years to get this size, so it's not going to go away overnight! It's funny how you sometimes think, "oh, 5 lbs isn't very much", until you buy something that weighs that amount and carry it. Last week I bought a 5 lb box of clementines, and I thought to myself, "you mean to tell me that I've lost almost six and one half of these?" Make no wonder I don't gasp for air when I'm walking now.
:)
Today I walked to and from work (3+ miles) plus walked during my breaks. I estimate that I've put in atleast 60 miles this month. I used to do a ton of walking in my younger days, now I guess I'm having a second childhood.

mayme2 10-28-2004 10:36 PM

New here

Hi, I'm new here and not sure how you do things. Do you all set a goal for the month?
I've finally gotten to the point where I enjoy daily exercise, really count on it now to keep the stress level down. I have almost all of Leslie's tapes and really like the new Walkblaster. I said I'd never do step but have recently bought a few firm tapes, they are a challenge but I like them for a change. I have a few Richard Simmons tapes and like those too. I need a lot of variety to keep me interested. I need to lose about 20 pounds, the same 20 I keep losing but it finds me again every time! Now that I'm being faithful to the exercise every day, I still have a problem with too much food. You all sound like you are doing great and I have enjoyed reading your posts. I wanted to ask Sarah about the mother of the bouncy one in the Walkblaster tapes. She looks so familiar but I can't remember which workout tape she might have been in.
Keep up the good work. :)

Morning and welcome to the other newbies

I did not walk yesterday, but I did about 6 the day before.I did find out that 2000 steps = a mile so I will use that as the mark on the eliptical.
Sunny you must cook on that thing cuse it takes me almost 15 min (about as fast as I walk) to do a mile!
Have to run to get the kiddies to school...
Happy walking,
-L

Goooood Friday Morning Gals!

*~*~*

First off *Welcome* Mayme2 ~ May I call you May? I think you will have an enjoyable experience with us on this thread... a great group of gals here! Yes, each month you just set a goal you think you will be able to reach by the end of the month. No competition here (except with yourself)... just words of encouragement. I too have a bunch of different tapes and DvD's :D I even have the original Richard Simmons record album! His first! (woops... giving away my age :^: ) It's how I lost the first time, many years ago. I enjoy the oldies... and he makes them fun. But he's a bit much all by himself all the time, so I have Tao-Bo & Walking Away the Pounds too. I enjoy my T-Mill the best, but do like the variety.

Hi L ~ I do have the tension dial turned up a bit... maybe that's why I go further faster on the elliptical. Could also be why it was bothering my hip too :dizzy:

Yes, to walk the 10,000 steps that is recommended a day it is aprox 5 miles walked - 2,000 steps a mile.

Hi Amy ~ I am so happy to hear that you will follow along with us in November. We really must keep on moving especially through the holiday's ~ coming up on us pretty quickly

I enjoyed your graphic ;)

Djcat ~ so happy to see you return ;) Wow... 60 miles so far and DOWN ANOTHER POUND!!! :cp: Good for youuuu!!!! :cp: Something huh... when you get a perspective like the box of clementines you carried. So true!! Keep up the great work, it will surely pay off!

Hi Sarah ~ I so enjoy helping others feel better about themselves. God does not make junk! People are so precious in their own right and should believe in themselves and know that they can do anything they put their minds to if they just believe in who they are :goodvibes None of us can do it alone or we wouldn't all be here  right :^: There's nothing like a good, kind word of encouragement to get you through a day :D I am only glad to be of help ;) :grouphug:

I am so proud of you!!! It's allot of hard work and dedication, but oh so worth it!! I once lost over 85 lbs. myself ~ I went from 230 to 145 lbs. and then slowly down to 135 lbs. and stayed there for about 8 years... then after going though some losses in life (with the death of relatives and friends - 9 in one year!) I gained some 70lbs back :o (stress & food seem to go together when you don't separate them, now I journal ;) ) I have lost 25 of the weight again and have 36 (or so) to go. I don't think I will ever see 135 or the 140's again, but I would be very delighted to be 155 again :D

Later gals...

Hi everyone!!! Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing! You are all a inspiration to me :)

I'm so excited about November for 3 reasons..
First, I get to start *officially* with my walking and counting miles :dancer:
Second, my birthday is on the 21st! :gift:
Third, it means Christmas is right around the corner! I love Christmas :smug:

Going to do a 1 mile walk today, I hope by next week I'll be doing 2!

*hugs*

lessofsarahtolove 10-29-2004 08:59 PM

I rode 6 miles in 20 minutes doing interval biking, followed by the 2-mile WATP workout with 3 lb. weights. I'm coming up on my October goal of 50 miles!

Djcat 10-29-2004 11:15 PM

Fall back...and watch for critters!

Ah, the wonders of Daylight Savings Time! The clocks go back and it's dark when you leave for work, and it's dark when you leave work! Which means that I will have to be extra careful on my AM walks because of critters...

One morning last week I left at 7:10, and had a very close encounter. It was still fairly dark, and I could see an animal crossing the road beside me out of the corner of my eye. I thought, "oh, a cat." Then the animal got within five feet of me and stopped. I stopped and turned my head, ready to go over and greet one of the neighbourhood kitties. But as I stared, something just did not seem right. Then it hit me, that kitty cat had white stripes on its back. :yikes:

I'm sure that my surprised shout of "Skunk!!!" woke up more than one person that morning. I stopped in my tracks. The skunk stopped in its tracks. Then I started walking again, and the poor skunk turned around and headed back across the road. Then on the next street over, I almost stepped on a rabbit

LynneA 10-30-2004 07:30 AM

Hello all :)

I managed to fit in 6 miles over the past 3 days, 2 per day. On Monday, I start a new job which will mean I am leaving the house at 6.30 am and not getting home until 6.00 pm, so I'm not sure how this will affect my walking. I may just turn to the elliptical and do my exercise on that. With the clocks changing this weekend it's going to be dark when I get home.

I'm also thinking about buying a treadmill, do any of you ladies recommened a brand or type of treadmill that is suitable for home use? I am looking for one that is adjustable to inclines etc.

L144S 10-30-2004 10:30 AM

Well another day off yesterday. 2 in a row is not a good plan for me. i did do a mile but only because i was walking to a resturaunt and back!

Raining today so I will do the eliptical and the tread....

happy walikng.

Good Morning Gals!
Just popping in for a minute... :D

Hi Lynne ~
It's good to see you :)
This is the Pro-Form T-Mill I bought last year at Sears...
I love mine! Check it out ;)
It has a incline, heart monitor and is a space saver too!

If you want to look further at more T-Mills, just type in Treadmills on the search at the top and it will bring you to all they have :smug:

Lynne, I would suggest going to a used sporting goods store -- I bought an excellent one (I'll check the brand and model later -- I'm not home right now) that I got to try out first for a much lower price (like $600 dollars less) than I would have had to pay if it were new. Truth be told, if it had been new, it would have been way out of my budget. So many people buy expensive equipment and then never use it and end up selling it, so you can save so much money if you're willing to buy it (slightly) used. My thought is, "I'm just going to use it myself, so why not save hundreds of dollars buying something that someone else used first?"

I got back on track for exercise. Did the whole 1 mile dvd again (it feels so great to say that) I am in a better mood than i have been in about 2 weeks (not sure why) I have been absolutely pessimistic and down. Poor hubby.. ive been driving him nuts asking him questions "are you sure ive lost any weight?" etc,..lol

Im only a half mile away from my october goal and i will do that tonight (im going to get in 2 leslie sessions for the day and that is almost unheard of for me,..lol

Everyone is doing so great!!! *applause for us*
